You say, 'Hail, Garadain Glacierbane'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Hrmff, what's this? A spy sent from the giant heathens, or the selfrighteous wurms perhaps? Either way, you'd be no [friend] of the great Coldain.'

You say, 'I am a friend.'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'A friend, you say? That remains to be seen. Much more to being a friend of the Coldain than just sayin' so. Anyway, I'm too [tired] to argue about it. I haven't slept in days.'

You say, 'Why are you tired?'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Did I say tired? Exhausted is more like it. Ever since that blizzard last week I haven't slept a wink. I came back from huntin' snow orcs to find that my [blanket] had blown away and now I'm just too tired to rustle up a new one.'

You say, 'What blanket?'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Not just any old blanket, mind ye, mine was made of the finest tundra kodiak hides and snow panther skins, two of each. When I was wrapped up in it ya couldn't see me a bit, no, I blended right into the snow, I did. Say, if you be a friend, here's yer chance to prove it. Sew me up a new blanket so I can get some rest.'

Garadain's blanket must be made from two High Quality Cougarskins (rare drops from A Snow Cougar) and two High Quality Tundra Kodiak Pelts (rare drops from A Tundra Kodiak). Tailor them together to craft a Coldain Hunting Blanket (trivial 66) and give this to Garadain.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Ahh, that'll do fine. Take this, it is but a trinket for now, but continue to serve the Coldain and it will grow in power. I must get some rest now, for I have been told my [nephew] has disappeared again and I will need to track him down tomorrow.'
Your faction standing with Coldain could not possibly get any better.
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV got better.
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
Your faction standing with Kromrif could not possibly get any worse.
You gain experience!!

Both int and wis help raise skill. Dex helps with fletching, tailoring. Str with smithing and jewelcraft.

Actually your a bit off there. Let me enlighten you.
1st and foremost you need Wisdom/Intelligence to gain skill ups in ANY trade, the higher is used when checking skill ups.
There are secondary skill up checks for tradeskilling. there are as follow
Smithing= Strength
Fletching= Dexterity

There are NO other secondary skill checks to Tailoring, Baking, Jewelcraft, ect..
Tailoring DOES NOT check on dexterity , this is a very old rumor that was put to rest by VI very long agao.. cant believe people are still spreading this.. VI instated these secondary checks for melee characters that dont normally have high int/wis, and giving them a fair chance at tradeskilling in smithing and fletching.
Int and Wis tho are your primary checks for skill ups, now if you are smithing and your STRENTH is higher than your int/wis then strenth will be used to base you skill ups on..
Dexterity for fletching, ... Get it now?

I am well qualified fulltime tradeskiller
200 smithing
200 brewing
193 Tailoring
187 Jewelcraft
192 pottery
178 baking

Actually (at least for smithing) your highest stat be it int/wis/or str determines how likely it is that you will gain a skillup. This question was answered at a fan faire awhile ago.
RE: Simple
# May 21 2003 at 11:50 PM Rating: Default
Im pretty sure this is correct. Str, Int or Wis seem to be primary stats for ANY tradeskill...whichever you have the highest in. This effects skill ups not success.

No. He didn't say the same thing. The check on STR in Smithing is NOT a secondary check. It is an alternative to WIS or INT. There is a similar situation in Fletching, where the highest of WIS/INT/DEX is used in skill-ups.
GD Kodiaks?

Can these HQ tundra Kodiak pelts drop off of the kodiaks in the caves in Great Divide?
RE: GD Kodiaks?
# May 12 2003 at 4:50 PM Rating: Default
The Great Divide kodiaks are Feral Cave Kodiaks, not Tundra; no substituting them will not work (though i wish there were as many kodiaks in EW as there are in GD).

There is no reason why the toughest ring should be the first.

To my knowledge, they only drop in EW.

As for the skill required for this...I have was sitting in Thurg, wondering how the hell I was going to combine the pelts with a skill of 26. I thought of all the silks I had to collect to raise skill..then said ***** it and hit combine in my Coldain Tanner's kit.

It worked. At skill 26. Go figure.

Tailoring skill was 36. It was NOT trivial. But I managed to fashion the blanket.

Worked my tailoring skill up to 36 mainly by farming spiders in upper guk. Very nice spawn ration to silks.

Garadain was located in some dwarf huts near the Ry'Gorr village in EW.

Can't wait to progress in these quests towards the greater rings.

Some general information:
It seems the common belief right now that the only thing that affects chances of success when combining an item is your skill level in that tradeskill. The highest of your wisdom and intelligence determines the chances of raising your skill while combining, while strength becomes a part of the formula in Smithing, and dexterity - in fletching.
Nothing is 100% verified yet, but from my experience, seems like my Wisdom (I'm a Druid) only affected the chances of skill raising while combining.
There was a former belief that INT determines chances of skill raise and WIS determines chances of success, but that has been proven wrong.
MQ
# Jun 21 2002 at 6:04 PM Rating: Default
This can no longer be MQ'ed. If your tailor gives the first item to Garadain he gives it straight back with the "I don't need this" message. Many items that were MQ can no longer be MQ'ed.
RE: MQ
# Jun 24 2002 at 2:51 PM Rating: Default
To my understanding 2 HQ kodiak pelts and 2 HQ snow courgar pelts have to be combined (tailoring) to a blanket, and the blanket is to be hand in. So there can be no MQ, since its only one piece to hand in.

I have me skill to 50 and have 135 wisdom. I failed to combine the items for the blanket. It said I did not have the skill. It is NOT trivial at skill 50 so dont waist yer kodiak pelts. Try it at a skill of 82 like the quest says up above. I'll post what happens when i get me skill up that high.

You can fail making trivial items. When you fail making an item you will only get the "You lacked the skill" message - NOT an eventual "You cannot improve your skill"/trivial-message.

Even if you had tailoring at 250 and failed making the blanket (which becomes trivial at 41), you would get a message saying you lacked the skill.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 22 2002 at 8:09 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Your talking crap man, becomes trivial at 41 skill for a start, ring has unlimited charges and its not 2 hours of giants

I tried the combine with a skill of 40 - failed but got a skill up from it (no trivial message), tried again with 41, succeeded and got the trivial message.

Yes, this can be multiquested. Give the pelts to a tailor, who makes the blanket for you. He then gets the first ring. After finishing the second quest, the tailor turns the first ring in to Garadain, and you then turn in the broken axe and receive ring 2.

I suggest finishing ring 2 first to avoid having the tailor run to EW twice.
Ring Wars?

Is this part of the ring wars? my guild is thinking of doing this and i am wanting to get information. I saw on the quest list for this zone it had all these (#1)(#2)....(#7) and so on listing. are these are part of it? Please help me so i can relay the information to my guild. TY
RE: Ring Wars?

Yup, this is the early part of the ringwar. Similar to the Coldain Prayer Shawl quests, you must complete all of the ring quests in numerical order.
Trivial
# Apr 21 2002 at 7:04 PM Rating: Default
After 55 attempts at making cured silk, my tailoring skill raised from 36 to 44. At that point I decided to try the blanket and succeded as well as received the trivial message. Not sure if 44 is the minimum skill for the trivial message, but the blanket is indeed trivial at this skill level. Hope this helps.
lack the skill?
# Apr 21 2002 at 1:58 PM Rating: Default
does lack the skill mean that i need to train the points into it? or do i just need to try again, cause i didnt what to waste my money and lose another set of pelts. Cant quite figure out the whole process of it...oh well. Would appreciate some help on this. Thank you!

Just means you failed, give it another shot.
RE: lack the skill?
# Apr 26 2002 at 7:07 AM Rating: Default
Dont listen to the one above. Yes, you can have the skill and it say you you lack it. But the chance of making one while "you lack the skill" is quite high. probably around 30:1.. I am a lvl 28 so i dunno how much 2400pp os to people as high as you'll, but i do tailoring and i know how to tailor pretty well. Don't waste money on expensive eplts for quests. Use cheaper items that you can raise the skill with. Start out combining 2 spidreling silks. You should end up with a silk swatch i think. The when you max that out combine the silk swatches with patterns of armor. The when that is maxed out go to ek and kill graig spiders and co,mbine there spider silk 2 at a time. This is as high as my skill goes sorry. But you may also be able to combine bb gnoll pelts.
RE: lack the skill?
# Apr 30 2002 at 2:05 PM Rating: Decent
Even if you have a skill of 178 and the item is trivial at 40, if you fail you Still get the "you lack the skill" message, so the person above you May be correct, however it sounds like the origional poster has NO skill what-so-ever in tailoring. So yes, go train your tailoring either by spending points in it or practicing your skill as this person suggests. All recipe's can be found at www.eqtraders.com in their tailoring section. I would suggest skipping the leather and sticking with silk and cured silk to skill. Spider silks are very easy to get. If you are of the level to do this quest go to East Karana and kill spiders there, they drop the most per kill, generally. And they should be very green by this point.

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 09 2002 at 12:59 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Temper, temper. Think about taking so anger management. Smithing to 115 in 3 hours on 200 plat is easy (with good merchant faction in Freeport). You just smith a whole crap load of metal bits and make skewers. They trivial at 115.
tundra pelt rarity
# Mar 11 2002 at 4:15 PM Rating: Decent
HQ Tundra pelts must be kinda rare. On TP server ppl auction to buy these for 200P+ (seen 500p once) - nice income for a mid 30's Ranger who can track and solo these things. 200-500p is scratch for lvl 60 peeps tho.
RE: tundra pelt rarity
# Nov 28 2002 at 5:40 PM Rating: Default
The HQ Tundra Kodiak pelts _are_ fairly rare, they were the most difficult part of the quest. I spent about 4 hours hunting them near the IC bridge before I got 2 - but they were within 20 minutes of each other.

Combined the quest piece at 111 no sweat.
RE: tundra pelt rarity
# May 06 2002 at 6:16 AM Rating: Default
Umm how could it be a 'nice income' if they're 'kinda rare'? Seems like it would just be a lucky one-time money shot.
RE: tundra pelt rarity
# Nov 08 2002 at 7:58 AM Rating: Default
Your ignorance is showing. Number 1.)Rangers TRACK things. Makes finding creatures that drop certain items Much easier. 2.)All he has to do is find 2 HQ pelts, and if he can sell them for 500pp, he's a k richer. Why don't you THINK before you post. It'll save space and prevent confusion. Oh, I forgot, your a warrior. You CAN'T think. hehe

Sounds to me like you have the right items. If they are called pelts or hides isn't really all that important - the HQ part is.

One type of the pelts/hides is stackable, the other is not - cannot remember which is which, though

Tradeskills
# Dec 11 2001 at 11:49 AM Rating: Good
Ok, simple soultion to a VERY Simple problem, this should solve all of your problems at once =)

WHEN DOING A TRADESKILL, WAIT TILL YOU HAVE TWICE THE SKILL NEEDED FOR A QUEST COMBINE!!!!

;)

that should get you the results you are looking for, so, if it indeed is 42, then wait till you're at 84 skill, really not that hard to do for such a LONG Quest, and if you don't think you can handle waiting that long, then just don't do the quest at All, you aren't ready for "Ubah lewts"
these ring quests will take you to lvl 60, and beyond, the 10th ring i have only seen 4 people get, they were ALL lvl 60, with VERY Large lvl 55+/59+ guilds.. it takes a WHOLE LOT to do these quests, as the rewards are Massive, so is the Effort you will need to put into it, best to wait till 45+ to start the first one, when you're sittin around in a hell level that's annoyin yah, take some time an work on some trade skills, i was mastered in 5 trades before level 40, just cause i was bored, an know what, now, i can make a few Kpp a day if i really wanted to just be a trade/EC junkie, i prefer to do quests, and hang out with friends tho, and with these skills, i can do the Thurg quests, Pottery to mastery = 1 hour (around 50pp), smithing to mastery = about 3 hours (around 200pp), baking to mastery = about 2 hours (around 30-50pp), brewing to Mastery = about 2 or 3 hours (around 150pp), Fletching to mastery = 2 LONG hours (about 150pp), really doesn't take much, just a little research, and question asking in game even, i didn't have to to to some web site to learn how to get the skills mastered, haven't taken the time to master tailoring, or j/c yet, but hay, there's plenty of time for that soon enough, trade mastery's empower you with a sense of worth, makes yah look good when you can:
/auc master Brewer/fletcer/baker/potter, LFJob... you tend to get few tells offa that ;)
Have fun, and best of wishes to you on those skills needed for the Thurg quests, those quests can get you some Very nice items :)

Elsha Rosefae, Tunare's 44th Seasoned Ranger Karana Server
Give me a tell, i can help yah get them skills up if you need, and always have time to help a friend =)

#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 28 2001 at 12:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Is the blanket or the pelts NODROP? I mean could you have someone else make you the blanket if you give them the pelts?

Yes it is nodrop. And i too made it at a low skill and didnt fail, matter of fact i have never read or heard of anyone failing so maybe you dont need skill? Dunno, just a thought.

I failed at 36, so it CAN fail. HQ tundra kodiak pelts aren't as rare as people say though -- I got 2 in 3 kills and a total of 3 after only killing maybe 15 kodiaks.

Kodiaks
# Nov 27 2001 at 2:18 PM Rating: Default
When you kill a kodiak it is not always replaced with another kodiak. It can be replaced with a snow cougar, dervish, dire wolf, whatever. What this means is that if you run around killing nothing but kodiaks, they will eventually get replaced with other stuff (that you are not killing) so kodiaks will gradually become more and more rare.

If you are having trouble finding them just start killing everything in sight. When stuff starts to repop you should begin finding a decent number of kodiaks again.

This is why there are so many kodiaks right after a patch, and so few a week later.
