Group task pops up 'Trials of Smoke'

  1. Defeat any Trial that you have not already defeated and claim your reward. 0/1 Trials of Smoke

There are 5 NPC's along the spider web pathing. Each have the same name and look alike each give a different quest.

For this task you need to kill the mobs in a particular order. You determine the order by counting the "type" of trash mobs on the various platforms in the trial area. There will be five of one type, three of another, a single of one and no match for the last type. If
someone gets close to the proper mini, the effects on the portals will disappear. Every time you get one of the mini named killed the adds respawn. The trash does not see invis. Minies all start in the middle of their room. If you are not at the right one, they toss you back out of their room.

Earth Element: (Obsidian Undefeated Shield) splits into 2 adds at 50%: Obsidian Shard and Obsidian Fragment. Both even con to 110. They appear towards wall away from entrance tunnel. One of them is mezzable (I think it's Obsidian Shard but I've been told that it isn't consistent) Kill them.

Fire Element : Blazing Triumphant Bulwark : dps until you get an emote about him becoming insubstantial then pull him to the fires in the room, dps him while on the fire (when he is properly placed you will get an emote mentioning him becoming more solid). You will have to move him a couple of times to the different fires in the room.

    Wind/Lightning : Blustering Stalwart Screen

    Water: Flowing Unconquered Guard

Once killed and “the next ambassador is ready”, the effects return to the portal pads.

After beating the last named you have to go back to the starting platform for the chest.

I would explain it differently in the comments, not talking about the video.

There are teleport PADS, they aren't portals. You can see most of the pads just looking out, into the event area (so you can count them) and each has some sort of effect coming up from it, like a flame, or smoke, or whatever. There are 4 different type of effects, which emanate from the pads and they represent fire, air, water, earth. By looking at all of the pads, or as many as you can, whichever effect is most numerous is the boss you need to fight. Don't worry about the number of trash mnobs/types and don't worry about aura around the boss, that is merely to help you identify as well as look cool.

Once you start taking health from the boss, the effects from the pads will vanish until that boss dies, at which point, you need to count them all anew. I was confused because people kept saying "portal" when they should have said "pad". You go through portals, you step on pads. 5 second check online...

Portal

a doorway, gate, or other entrance, especially a large and imposing one

Pad

flat-topped structure or area used for helicopter takeoff and landing or for rocket launching

The write ups for the Obsidian and Blazing were perfect. The Blustering mob has an ae that's not too bad, but it can sneak up on you if you aren't paying attention. Probably easiest of the four. The Flowing seemed to have either big damage mitigation or hit points. It also seemed to power up every now and then (hit tank for 140k in one round of attacks - 7k ac 300k hp). The Obsidian was next easiest encounter for my group. The Blazing wasn't bad, but moving from fire to fire to keep doing damage was irritating. One could tank it on a fire the whole fight, but it would take a long time. I would drop moving speed modifiers(SoW) so you don't accidentally get yourself killed moving after a port. If you're about to wipe, a toon can drop aggro and wait in the hallway near the portal of each boss mob. No wanderers come in, so safe to buff there as well. Tank the mobs inside the room to make sure you leave this safe area. Good luck!

Some updates...Blustering seemed to be resistant for a time, but that eventually passed. Not sure what triggered it to go on or off. Also, all the main mobs can be stunned, but once the Obsidian splits, those two can not be stunned. Hope that helps!

An easy way to see which ambassador is next is to count the portal particle effects, most is next up.

Count the portals, not the mobs
# Jul 17 2019 at 8:03 PM Rating: Good
The way you determine the order to kill the minis is count the portals. They will have a cloud that is earth, water, air, or fire. Whichever elemental is most present, kill that one. The portal clouds will go away when you enter the right room. After you kill the mini, check the portals again and go there.

I'd feel a lot better about beating it if I could point to some strategy or trick I used that worked reliably. But nope, my advice to anyone trying it is to just keep trying because it's just a probabilistic failure mechanic you need to keep rolling the dice against. I know someone who took 49 attempts to get it.

It's a great example of what happens when developers reach beyond their grasp and implement an objective for the player that requires a buggy system to not bug out in the 100 or so hops you need to do each run.

The portals are fairly straight forward, but can be confusing at first.

From the entrance to the event facing in towards the event

Right (East) - Earth
Middle - Fire then Water
Left (Northwest) - Wind

The portals will naturally take you around until eventually dropping you back off on the original starting platform with the 3 portal choices. Sometimes you have to take several portals before it takes you where you're actually going.

Both even con to 110. Not immediately aggro, don’t see invis, huge aggro radius

They appear towards wall away from entrance tunnel

The elements over the portal pads disappear when someone gets close to the next ambassador to challenge. Once killed and “the next ambassador is ready”, the elements return to the portal pads.

That works, but I have a bard with me, so I just use track. There are 5 trash adds of one element, 3 of another, 1 of another and zero of the last. That is the order in which the bosses are killed.

The order changes each time you run the mission.

Easiest way to tell which one is next is run around the outside and look at all the pads you can see. note which one is repeated the most.
For example there may be 7 air, 3 fire, 2 water, 1 earth that you can see from the tunnel entrance. In that case air would be next.

When I wrote up the walk through I thought it was always the one in from of the npc but that was incorrect.

Here is a map of the portals

https://imgur.com/a/3uKaxRi

Key points:
1. Note the particle effects of the teleport pads. One will be repeated more than the others. That is the element you want to kill next.
2. Use map to figure out which teleport pads to use to get to the boss you want.
3. Stay invis to avoid agro.
4. Can jump to center to get warped to either quest NPC or safe room north.

Fire boss : Move the fire boss into the fire pits to unlock HP
Earth boss : Splits into two at low HP

Ok I just want to get the directions clear here.

Once you say Prepared to Waves of Saffron Sky to start the trial, you need to kill 4 Ambassadors in a specific order. The order is,
1 Air
2 Earth
3 Fire
4 Water

Use the map images to go to each ambassador, can invis on the way. After killing each ambassador, is Waves of Saffron Sky near where the Ambassadors were or do you need to go back some where else?

Where does the fire ambassador start out at? Is the fire pit in the center of the room?
