At the end of the previous quest, Maesyn Trueshot mentioned a next incarnation of the bow.

You say, 'What is the next incarnation?'

Maesyn Trueshot says 'The Trueshot Longbow was once enchanted by the Koada'Dal enchanters. Once it was enchanted now it is no more. I am sure if you were ask the Koada'Dal [where the enchanted bows] are you will get an answer.'

Go to Felwithe. Kinool Goldsinger may be found in the Enchanter guild.

You say, 'Where can I get an Enchanted Bow?'

Kinool Goldsinger says 'Alas... Another ranger in search of the [Rain Caller]. She is no more.'

You say, 'What is the Rain Caller?'

Kinool Goldsinger says 'Rain Caller is the name we give each Trueshot longbow once it is enchanted. Unfortunately, I am unable to enchant them any longer. One of the components is no longer available. Someone would have to strike a [deal with the fairie folk]. Once I have that and the [remaining components] I can create the Rain Caller, a ranger's bow.'

You say, 'What deal with the fairie folk?'

Kinool Goldsinger says 'The fairie princess, Joleena, used to have a metal gnome deliver [fairie gold dust] to the Keepers every month. She has stopped this and now refuses to offer it to any nation of Faydwer. What she is angry about, we do not know.'

You say, 'What fairie gold dust?'

Kinool Goldsinger says 'Fairie gold dust is an enchanted powder which only a fairie princess can create.'

You say, 'What remaining components?'

Kinool Goldsinger says 'The remaining components are the Trueshot longbow and a treant heart. There will also be the guild donation in the amount of 3000 gold coins. These and the [fairie gold dust] will merit a ranger the Rain Caller enchanted bow.'

Princess Joleena may be found in the Lesser Faydark.

You say, 'Hail, Princess Joleena'

Princess Joleena says 'I am the Fairie Princess, Joleena. You may stay amongst my people, but do not nibble from our homes.'

You say, 'I want fairie gold dust.'

Princess Joleena says 'You wish the magical Fairie Gold Dust? Hmmph!! I refuse to offer it to any of the giants of Faydwer. How can I trust any of you. You have crept up upon my me and snatched one of my wings from my back. There will be no Fairie Gold Dust until my wing has been returned to me. You may not be the stalker [who snatched my wing], but all you giants are similar. Prove me wrong and return my wing.'

You say, 'Who snatched your wing?'

Princess Joleena says 'I did not see the swift giant, I was blinded by the sun glaring off his balding head. I do remember the smell of rust and refuse. How he got past my Clockwork Guardian, Gearheart, is a mystery to us all.'

The bald "giant" she's talking about is Sanfyrd Featherhead in Ak'Anon.

You say, 'Hail, Sanfyrd Featherhead'

Sanfyrd Featherhead says 'Greetings. I am the operator of this Scrapyard. If you have any Scrap Metal I would be glad to purchase it from you in loads of four. The Gemchoppers no longer allow me to accept Blackbox Fragments and Micro Servos.'

You say, 'Do you know where Princess Joleena's wing is?'

Sanfyrd Featherhead says 'No!! You cannot have my magic Fairie Wing!! I need it. I read somewhere within the great library that the magic wing from a fairie princess will restore my full head of hair. Look at me!! I am bald!! I have no [friends] at all.'

You say, 'I am your friend.'

Sanfyrd Featherhead says 'Oh. You are just saying that so you can get my fairie wing. I will make you a deal. I cannot rely on this wing forever. I will trade it with you if you could get me a case of hair tonic. If you are a true friend you [will fetch the hair tonic] for me.'

You say, 'I will fetch the hair tonic.'

Sanfyrd Featherhead says 'Great!! Here you go, my friend. Take this crate and within you shall fill each slot with hair tonic. When all are combined within the crate, return it to me for your wing. I am not sure what the tonic was or where I got it. There is some writing on the crate, but I could not identify it.'

You receive a Crate for Tonics, a 10-slot SMALL container. You must now go to Freeport. Ping Fuzzlecutter is a gnome merchant located outside the west gate. Buy 10 of Fuzzlecutter Formula 5000 from him, enough to fill the crate, then hit combine to craft A Crate of Tonic.

Upon Hand In of the crate to Sanfyrd:
Sanfyrd Featherhead says, 'Huzzah! You are my friend. Now you can take my old toupee and get it repaired. Just go to Freeport and ask Ping to [repair the toupee]. Hey! You know what? He is the guy who sells the hair tonic! I remember now. Well... Get my toupee repaired and I will give you the fairie wing.'

You receive a Tattered Toupee, which identifies as "Sanfyrd's Used Toupee." Head back to West Freeport and Ping Fuzzlecutter.

You say, 'Can you repair the toupee?'

Ping Fuzzlecutter says 'Ah!! You have a toupee to repair. It must be the [Mane Attraction]. I gave one out and it seems to always fall to pieces. Seeing as it has a 100 season warranty and I only created it 5 seasons ago, I suppose I can do it. Do you want me to [make the Mane Attraction]?'

You say, 'What is the Mane Attraction?'

Ping Fuzzlecutter says 'The Mane Attraction is a special toupee I created for a Gnome junker. He wasn't getting much attention at the taverns till I created the eye-catching toupee. He became one charismatic Gnome after that. Unfortunately, it seems to fall to pieces too easily and since it has a warranty, I have to fix it for him every time at no charge!! I will never make another.'

You say, 'I want you to make the Mane Attraction.'

Ping Fuzzlecutter says 'If you have the original tattered toupee then I can do it. Before you give it to me I will also need three other items. I require two clumps of hair from a Hulking Gorilla and a strand of hair from a [certain mermaid].'

You say, 'What certain mermaid?'

Ping Fuzzlecutter says 'I encountered a particular mermaid with beautiful hair!! She had beautiful golden tresses. I used a lock of her hair to create the Mane Attraction. That was a while back when I was in Faydwer.'

A Hulking Gorilla may be found in the Feerrott. Clumps of Gorilla Hair also drop occasionally from A Gorilla, A Large Gorilla, and A Silverflank Guardian, also found in the Feerrott.

A Golden Haired Mermaid may be found in Kedge Keep. She drops A Lock of Hair.

I wouldn't bother. You're going to need a powerful group and an enduring breath item to do the final part of the quest and Rain Caller just isn't a good bow anymore. There are bows with better dps and better procs that you can get for a lot less work if you have a powerful enough group to do Rain Caller.

So far, after revamp of Freeport
# Aug 17 2006 at 4:30 PM Rating: Decent
I just finished my Trueshot Longbow quest and everything went acording to the walkthru here at Allakhazam. The only part I had trouble with was the Tumpy Tonics, but I simply asked a brewer friend to make some for me and all went well from there. I got the bow after only one try at fletching it. My skill is 180. Now I am going to go for the Raincaller.

My bad. There is another Jyle Windshot in West Freeport that accepts Small Lanterns. Took about 10 before he coughed up the woooden/treant heart. He is located in the Hogcallers Inn, upstairs from Lady Shea.

Jyle Windshot is now in East Freeport _and_ he won't accept the small lanterns. Sent in a bug report, but will just kill a few treants for the treant heart since faction hit is so small.

I'm after the Mane Attraction.

Is it possible to start the quest by talking to Ping Fuzzlecutter, "Can you repair the toupee?" or "What is the Mane Attraction?" ?

Or do I have to do all the pre-steps?

treant heart
# May 02 2003 at 5:08 AM Rating: Decent
I just got the treant heart off Jyle windshot the other day. I am not sure why he gives it but gave me a faction hit in the negative sense for turning in my tunic to him. I would suggest that getting some party who doesnt care about the faction hits to just go ahead and kill the treant and let you loot the heart.

Just wondering why wood elf rangers have to turn in their first tunic to get the treant shards for the trueshot material anyway? I have tried to give Jyle a small lantern but he keeps saying he doesnt need it. We only get one tunic so it makes it difficult to get the treant heart from him without taking another poor unknowing rangers chance from him by buying or trading for his first tunic.

If I recall correctly - it's been a long time - there is one jyle who is close to the docks who trys to get you to give him your tunic and a different jyle deeper in the zone who you can give lanterns.

Are you sure you gave him a small lantern? Ive done the trueshot quest twice with my ranger trying to make my trueshot bow and I handed in a lantern both times. I never had to give him my tunic.

spawn time
# Nov 15 2002 at 4:23 AM Rating: Decent
princess joleena despawns at 8am and respawns at 9am every EQ day (30 minutes real time? whatever). however, i was over killin dark elves for sport, nasty retches, and checked track just for the heck of it and she was up at about midnight of the same day. either she does the same thing at 8pm/9pm or they changed the timer to include a seconds spawn per eq day at some point. OR ALSO, try hailing gearlock or whatever the heck his name is. he stands next to the princess spawn point. ask him, "where is the princess?" each time i have asked him that, she spawns on the next cycle. cant hurt, anyway...

Not too bad...
# Jun 18 2002 at 1:15 AM Rating: Excellent

A few things to clear up some questions below:

* The faerie dust is not your ordinary fairie dust. It is specifically 'a pouch of faerie dust'.

* Princess Joleena isn't hard to spawn...whoever posted below about the faerie guard despawning every 30 minutes, then respawing either the princess or another guard in five minutes is exactly correct...just try to stay hidden while waiting so Equestrielle the Corrupted doesn't start smacking you down in the process.

* The two hulking gorillas are on in the Cazic-Thule zone, so save yourself some time. The are guarding the entrance to Cazic-Thule, on either side of its entrance on top of the temple steps in Feerrott. These have placeholders of other gorilla types, one kind of which, the Silverflank gorilla, also drops the same hair. Watch out for the Tae Ew justicars on both far ends of the same platform outside the temple entrance...they will heal the gorillas while you're fighting them.

* We took out the golden-haired mermaid in about 30 minutes after entering Kedge Keep. Our group consisted of 43 ranger (myself), 46 druid, and a 52 cleric. We cast 'see invis.' and 'camouflage' on all party members just inside the entrance, then went straight to the golden haired mermaid room. At first, there were two stiletto-toothed piranhas in the room, and just as I attacked the first, a mermaid (generic) popped and started healing the piranhas. I killed her first, then the fishies. We waited about 20 minutes, with no more spawns, so I started pulling out of the main entrance room and into the same mermaid room. After pulling a few singles, I somehow snagged two, then the just as I brought them in, the room popped two more of those piranhas and the golden haired mermaid. I killed her first, looted, then we killed the other fish, and the druid then evac'd us out. Try to pull all mobs to a corner and let a caster root one, go to another corner and do the same...keeps you from quickly becoming fishbait.

* You don't give "the wig" to Sanfyrd to get the glimmering fairy wing...you give him the Mane Attraction after you get it.

Hope this helps,

Tseramed

finished the quest today, was sitting in front of the clockwork gnome when she popped, i checked the time and it was 9 PM, not am. This info might confuse some theories, but it happened. Mermaid was easy with a 41 ranger, 36 warrior, 52 paladin and a 52 magician. BTW, we were also after undertow, he was at 10% health when the ceiling ate him, but thats another story.

the rest of the quest was easy, just have a friend port you to cut down on travel time.

i was indifferent to kinool when i turned in the stuff. gained 3 blue xp on turn in, woot.

good luck

Repair Faerie Faction
# May 14 2002 at 5:40 PM Rating: Decent
IS IT POSSIBLE to fix faerie faction? I wish I could name the amount of the little wenches I have tracked and slaughtered, but alas, I cannot count that high. I have also disable Cognoggin on a few occasions. Faeries don't quite scowl ready to attack yet, so that is good thing, but I'm sure I need better faction before attempting this quest. Any ideas on raising the faction with the evil winged things?

If you HAVE killed some faires in the past (but thankfully, not many), how affected is your faction for this quest? I've killed a few (maybe 10, or so) before I even knew about the Raincaller bow and know I need to find out how to fix any faction issues before I try to do this.

Is there anything that raises Fairie faction, just in case?

Thanks.

OK I did this quest at lvl 31, needed some guild back up for the mermaid but the rest was pretty easy, the Hulking gorillas spawn about 1 in 6 kills with about a 10-15 minute spawn time at the entrance to Cazic in the Feerot, the Tae Ew will not assist the Gorillas but they will heal them, and some seem to do full heals I had one down to almost dead 5 times and had to zone and come back to kill him. The hardest <read worst and most boring> part was the Faerie Princess I spent 6 hours my first day 3 my second and finally on my third RL day she popped up would not answer any of my questions but I gave her the wing and she gave me the gold dust, then I got my bow. So if you are gonna do this quest order a pizza and get a good book, and be ready to wait for a VERY long time to see that annoying Princess Joleena.

On the quest description it says that you only need 3kgp... is this correct? Or is it 3kpp?

Platinum should work. I've yet to hear of an instance where a quest NPC ate the correct amount of platinum pieces because he asked for gold. Even Hasten Bootstrutter (the JBoots quest NPC) accepts platinum, and if there's a role-playing reason for any quest to require gold instead of platinum, it's that quest (more coins slowing you down, thus making you appreciate the JBoots that much more when you get them).

I just think having NPCs ask for gold instead of platinum is one of those stupid Verant quirks that only serves to annoy and confuse players. In virtually every single quest where you have to hand money to an NPC, the quest NPC asks for the amount in gold, even though there is generally no reason to be gold instead of plat.

Gold is more common in a fantasy setting than platinum. I don't think they ever really intended platinum to be the major coin in Norrath, judging by a lot of early quests. I actually prefer it that way, because of roleplay reasons. So um.. There.

I just completed this quest this morning, March 20th, 2002. The gorillas are at the entr to cazic thule in feerott now, and you have to kill them to get the hulkings to spawn (took me about 2 hours to get both clumps.) But YES, it can still be done.

an elf in ak'anon?

I don't understand how you can get to the guy in ak'anon. Once, a long time ago, I went exploring with my wood elf ranger, and as soon as I entered I was killed by a guard. So, I assumed that Tunare worshippers are KoS to gnomes and I have never tried that again. Now I see that I am supposed to go all the way into the city somehow to do something for this gnome fellow. Anyone fill me in on how this is possible? Have things changed since I last went into Ak'anon? I am not willing to just walk in until I hear a little more about this. Please, any info would be appreciated.

Thanks- divianna

Sounds to me like someone took a stab at Renton :P

Ya know that gnome in CB? His pet is an elemental.. not a skeleton.. because hes a good guy.. just a slave. But everybody likes to kill him anyway...

How many young elves have cursed me because I didn't want to share this perdicament?

I am able to walk all over that city because I killed many Minotaur's and have done the Minataur Hero quest multiple times

My wood-elf ranger has no trouble walking into and out of Ak'Anon, talking to gnomes and clockworks and trading. I had to wander into the area to get micro-servos anyway...

Actually, the only time you'll have a real problem is if that darn necro or one of the dark reflection is standing near the entrance. It happens sometimes.
