Prerequisite Quests: Testing the Waters, For My Information, What Makes a Scorpiki?, The Dragons' Graveyard, The Orb of Luclin, The Orb of Fire, State of the Sarnak and The Fereth.

Find a sickly chokidai in Gorowyn to request this. It is in the back room of the building where the meat broiler NPCs are at. (South Room, /loc -1240, -890)

Request Phrase: Hail the chokidai.

We need detail on each quest step.

  • 1. Find a key that will unlock the chains. 0/1 (Gorowyn)

  • Kill a Krellnakor beastmaster, on a kill you will get a Simple Key on your cursor.

  • 2. Unlock the chains binding the sickly chokidai. 0/1 (Gorowyn)

  • For this step, make sure the person freeing the sickly chokidai doesn't have a pet/familiar, and never goes invis. Target the chokidai and right click the Key.

  • 3. Find food for the poor beast. 0/1 (Gorowyn)

  • Kill another sarnak in the area, this will update upon killing

  • 4. Lead the chokidai out of Gorowyn. 0/1 (Gorowyn)

  • Lead the chokidai to the zone in, if you invis the chokidai will bug out and stop following you, it will stop and update this step

  • 5. Find out why the beast hesitates to obtain its freedom. 0/1 (Gorowyn)

  • Hail the chokidai where it stops. It stops at this map file location.

    P 426.3247, 863.3971, -184.5856, 240, 0, 0, 1, Chokidai_Unbound_update_spot

  • 6. Guard the chokidai while it seeks what it desires. 0/1 (Gorowyn)

  • Lead the chokidai to the ramp outside and hail it, then go back to kill boilers, broilers & chokidai until Chokidai Egg shows up on your cursor.

  • 7. Get the chokidai out of Gorowyn with its egg. 0/1 (Gorowyn)

  • Lead the chokidai back to the update spot for step 5 where it stopped. This will update the task and spawn 3 basilisks that will attack.
Easiest way is to levitate back to the update spot from a high building, the chokidai pet will follow.

  • 8. Protect the pup from the ravenous basilisks. 0/1 (Gorowyn)

  • Kill the 3 basilisks, they all 3 come at the same time and are the same strength as zone trash.

  • 9. Get the chokidai safely out of Gorowyn with its pup. 0/1 (Gorowyn)

  • This will update at the Skyfire zone line area

For the task 5. Find out why the beast hesitates to obtain its freedom, there are a couple (that I know of) update spots. This can lead to issues/confusion in step 7 specifically; 'Get the chokidai out of Gorowyn with its egg'.

Step 4 is basically lead the chokidai out of Gorowyn leading into step 5. From the point where you trigger the quest is the start point for step 4 and there are two paths to 'get the chokidai out of Gorowyn'. First path (and the incorrect one) is to take the 'Wall path', whereby you/party leads the chokidai along the top of the 'Wall'. Taking this path will have the chokidai stop towards ZI though relatively close to the 'second gate'. Second path is to lead through the second gate towards the first gate. Taking this path will have step 5 start shortly beyond the 'second gate' as you move back toward the 'first gate' (near ZI). Note, there is a static Kar'Zok mob near the second gate; it is SI and will likely need to be killed. Also, there are several wanders who will path around through the 'second gate' so be prepared to deal with 3 or 4 mobs at the second gate.

I didn't run into any issues with this quest doing exactly what the dialog steps say. Make sure the person freeing the dog doesn't have a pet/familiar, never goes invis and then just follow the steps. I killed maybe 5 or 6 mobs for the entire quest.

    Per the quest, I...
    1. Hailed the dog to request
    2. Got the key from a roaming beastmaster outside
    3. Right clicked the key with the dog targeted
    4. Killed a sarnak outside the room for an update
    5. Ran only the person with the dog to zone in for update
    6. Ran back to the group
    7. Killed one more mob for egg
    8. Ran the whole group back to where it stopped in step 5 (near zone out)
    9. Killed the 3 basilisks that spawned (they were very weak, the tank barely needed a heal)
    10. Ran the rest of the way up the ramp to zone out to finish
    Still buggy.. some tips

The last few times my friends and I have done this quest, it has spawned 9-12 basilisks, which makes it more painful than usual. I decided to try this myself based on the "normal" steps that have been mentioned here, and got 9 basilisks, which eventually despawned as I had wiped a few times and took too long to clear even 3 to finish the quest.

Here's what I did upon my last success (I boxed this myself as a warrior, with shaman and ranger supporting). Note that I have WARMLY faction to Goro sarnaks.

To start, I placed a campfire at zone in, then moved my team to the "captain"/VP key camp near the kitchen where the quest starts.

    1. Killed the roaming beastmaster, pulling him to the captain camp spot near the kitchen. Got key.
    2. Freed dog.
    3. Killed the broiler team standing outside the kitchen to the right (again, pulled to captain camp spot). Got update.
    4. Got levitate, ran towards zone in and the step updated shortly after passing the archway where Overlord Tevik can spawn (on Good's map)
    5. About halfway up the ramp between arches, I hailed the dog for this update.
    6. From here, all I did was move towards the zone in and updated. Strangely enough I saw a dog at my group still sitting at the captain camp, as well as with me.
    7. Here's the critical point.. I knew that killing a beastmaster updates this step, but normally we'd kill the roamer between the arches. This time I was concerned with wiping and taking too long to get back in, so I moved my group to the zone in via a campfire (placed earlier). I pulled the beastmaster when he roamed to the first arch/doorway (I did get 1 add plus the beast's pet dog). I killed the beastmaster LAST as I knew this would cause the basilisks to spawn. As soon as he died, 3 basilisks appeared on ET. I ran quickly back up the ramp to the zone in and waited for them to appear. They found me within 30 seconds - no others had spawned.
    8. Easily killed all three basilisks.
    9. Since we were already at the zone in, the quest completed immediately upon killing the third basilisk.

I haven't done this quest again since this run, but after multiple runs/wipes by myself this was the only successful and safe run I had.

Some other notes - I am not sure what has caused more than 3 basilisks to spawn, but in this run above, it only took me about 15-20 minutes total. I didn't run around more than needed, nor did I need to wait for updates. I recall in the past that step 6 used to take a long time to update, which I assumed caused more basilisks to spawn. Unconfirmed. I also noted that anyone with the task could get aggro on the basilisks once they spawned if someone was in close proximity - so you may not want to add everyone in until past step 7 to avoid a mess. I didn't do this myself, but during my many-wipe run, I kept getting aggro on other task members at the captain camp when they used a campfire to come back in.

    Good luck..

    step 7 update

the instructions for step 7 are in error:
Lead the chokidai back to the zone in, at the earlier update when it stopped,...

It should read: Lead the chokidai back to the update spot for step 5 where it stopped; this will update and spawn 3 basilisks that will attack.

Yes its a buggy quest. I wish they'd fix it but what can you do.

Some advice before starting the quest to have the best chance of it not bugging.

No invis after you have the chokidai as a pet
No pets or familiars up for this quest, not even swarm pets or clickable ones - start to finish
Try not to die Smiley: rolleyes

Setup camp in the safe spot right by the pit fighters and someone invis and go get the quest.

Run back to camp and kill the Gnaw PH elder chokidai then wait for the beastmaster and his pet to path up the ramp to you.

We always parked the pet and killed the beastmaster to get the key. Run back to the sickly chokidai and click the key.

Run back to camp with it and kill the dog you parked since your new pet needs something to eat (cannibal)

Depending on pathing you can then run the dog towards the two dogs north of the pit fighting area on the ground floor or your can just kill them. Then up the little stairs on the left and over the wall into the little pit to kill the dog that is waiting there. pull and kill the green kar'zok that is there at the archway (watch out for pathing adds before you pull and stay tight in your little pit)

out the front gate of the arch and up the 1st ramp. The dog will stop and then you hail him. follow him back to where he goes, usually the pit where you fought the green one. He wants his egg from the beastmaster and chokidai that are pathing back and forth under the arch. kill and get the egg.

Just bag the egg, don't do anything with it.

We spent a week feeding the egg to the dog (don't ask)

Run the dog back out the arch. about where he stopped the last time for the hail he will spawn the ravenous lavalisks (3) for you to kill. Rootable and don't hit for anything more than zone trash.

We had all 110 mostly group-geared (some chase) warrior, bard, shaman (me) and rogue merc + 2 cleric mercs and had plenty of time to kill them. They do despawn so park anything extra and get your quest updates.

After the quest update for killing them you just have to make it out to Skyfire. We had several adds we shouldn't have had because who knows why in this crazy zone and so the warrior just sort of trained to zone to get the update (don't recommend but it worked for us)

    Hope this helps.

"No invis after you have the chokidai as a pet

Why? chanter pet did not effect the task, we invised many times no effect, even evac did not ruin the task, died when the pups spawned as we had a bunch of adds and could not save the pups so no more eggs spawn...over.

Bugs over and over and over again..

Last attempt I finally had the 2nd ravenous basilisks almost dead when they just poofed and would not respawn.. Been something stupid every single time. When they do spawn they seem to come from every direction and attack the weakest toons in the party.. Wiping out any merc clerics first before you can control them..

    Really a PoS task..

Probably the most broken quest i have ever encountered. It can bug out on every single step.

    Some notes:

Step 1 - key drops of "A Krellnakor beastmaster"

    Step 4 - The dog roughly stops at: P 426.3247, 863.3971, -184.5856, 240, 0, 0, 1, Chokidai_Unbound_update_spot

Step 6 - You get the egg from killing any chokidai, i suggest moving away from the loc were dog stops in step 4. If you dont step 7 will update when you killed a chokidai and you will have no time to prepare for the 3 basilisks.

Step 8 - The basilisks are about the same strength as the zone trash and will come all at the same time.

To be more specific, once you lead the mutt to the ramp outside and hail it, you need to kill the 'wandering mob(s)' and they in turn drop the 'egg' that the mutt seeks in order to continue.

Something is very wrong with this quest.

    1. The Update spots are wrong - there seem to be more update spots
    2. despite the 3 basisliks there are regularly (a min of 3 times spawning a Beastmaster with his Chokidai. Even nearly outside of the Mob Area they appear out of nothing and you have to deal partly with 6 mobs - completely numb quest.

I assume that description is BETA phase, but not the real actual quest.
