When the July 14, 2004 patch introduced the revamped Veeshan's Peak, it also introduced a quest to get the New Key to Veeshan's Peak. Completing this quest serves as a shortcut in the new quest, but is not required for it. You cannot enter Veeshan's Peak without obtaining the new key.

You can no longer multiquest the quest handins. 9-20-2017 patch.

This is the quest to get the key to enter Veeshan's Peak. All told, it should take you several days real time to complete, and will require help from others along the way.

Not far south (just keep the wall on your right) from the Swamp of No Hope zone, there's a passage going into the wall. At the end of the passage, there's a huge room with a red viper-looking throne, and on the throne there's a ghost-looking Iksar floating.

He is at 49, and cons indifferent. His name is Emperor Ganak, and here's what he has to say:

You say, 'Hail, Emperor Ganak'

Emperor Ganak says 'Greetings... It has been long since I have been aware on this plane..Who are you and what do you want of I, Ganak, slayer of Jaled-Dar?'

You say, 'What is Veeshan's Peak?'

Emperor Ganak says 'You wish to know of Veeshan's Peak?! You are either very brave or very foolish! There is nothing there for the uninvited but a fiery death. I have been away from this plane of existence for a long time yet still I feel the presence of the ancient wurms. I am sure they sense my presence as well, being as I hold the only [key to the chambers] of the Ring of Scale.'

You say, 'What about the key to the chambers?'

Emperor Ganak says 'I am not so quick to grant someone the key to their death! If you truly wish your doom to fall upon you so soon then bring me the three medallions of the fallen Iksar tribes, Kylong, Obulus, and Jarsath. The tribes were long ago crushed by the warriors of the Kunzar and their remains lye buried beneath ages of rubble. Finding the lost medallions of my people will not be enough to prove your worthy of entry into the fortress of the great wurms there is another task that you must complete before you return the medallions.'

You say, 'What medallions?'

Emperor Ganak says 'There were five different tribes of my people. The Kunzar, Kylong, Nathsar, Obulus, and Jarsath. Each of these tribes had a medallion that represented it. If you can return to me the Medallion of the Kunzar and Nathsar, I will give you the idol of Trakanon.'

You say, 'What task?'

Emperor Ganak says 'Those who enter Veeshans Peak uninvited by the lords of the Ring of Scale become nothing more than a snack for the wurms that dwell within its halls. Once you cross the threshold of the Peak there Is no escape. Any fool dedicated enough to locate the medallions can do so, but it takes a truly mighty individual to slay the dragon that has plagued my people for ages. I speak of the poison dragon Trakanon, the vile undead wurm that has conquered my peoples greatest wurmslayers. Bring me proof of Trakanons death with the medallions I request and I may deem you worthy of the key to the Ring of Scale.'

The medallions of Kunzar and Nathsar drop from the Froglock Hunter and Forager in Trakanon's Teeth. These Mobs spawn one after another, so they are fairly easy to get. Turn in these two medallions and you should get the idol of Trakanon, which will get you into Old Sebilis, where you can find Trakanon. (See Key to Sebilis Quest for a full description)

The quest for Medallion of the Odulus is located in The Burning Woods. The quest for the Medallion of the Kylong is located in the Lake of Ill Omen. The quest for the Jarsarath Medallion is located in the Timorous Deep. The full descriptions are detailed in each quest, and they also involve several subquests. The links to each are to the left.

If you find a piece of medallion, be sure to identify it to see which medallion it belongs to. Once you get all three medallions and Trakanon's tooth, turn them in and you will get you the Key to Veeshan's Peak.

Emperor Ganak says 'I must say, I thought your flesh would be rotting from your bones along side the remains of the ancient Sebisilians. I commend you on your victory over the poison dragon and thank you for returning the ancient medallions of my people. I reward you with the key you seek. A place shall be prepared for your souls among the most honored of the dead. Soon you will be seeing the world through the shroud of death.

Can anyone report if the key quest has changed, given the revamp to VP? That's live on Stormhammer, right?

Rotting Skelly in Dreadlands
# Aug 26 2003 at 2:44 AM Rating: Decent
For those curious about the VP key mob camp in Dreadlands, here are the results of my camping him earlier today...

I camped him for about 7 hours and 15 minutes (arriving at 2:45pm and left at around 10:00pm).

During that time, I killed the PH immediately on spawn so I could maximize the time spent at the camp since he's on an approximately 7 minute spawn cycle. I ended up killing 64 mobs at the camp during the 7+ hours I was there.

Out of these 64 mobs, I ended up killing three of the actual VP key piece mob, the rare "Rotting skeleton". Unfortunately, there was no pattern to his spawning -- the first "rotting" spawn was the 11th mob killed, the second "rotting" spawn was the 47th mob killed and the third "rotting" spawn was the 49th mob killed (getting him twice so close was encouraging but he didnt spawn again before I left after 15 more spawns -- I needed four pieces and really wanted to get them all in one day so I never have to sit there waiting for that stinking mob to pop, hehe, see below).

To keep from going insane, since I 3 box, I left the heavy artillery minding the camp (65 wizard with 124 AA's and Strike of Solusek), my 65 druid would roam the eastern side of the zone killing all the spiders that used to terrorize my characters back when I actually BELONGED in Dreadlands, hehe.

The "Rotting" camp is just east of a "drachnid" camp of 6-8 static spiders with a couple roamers who move westward after popping. I could wipe out the statics in less than 7 minutes and move back to med up while I concentrated on the next "Rotting" PH. My druid then went farther west for any roaming spiders and returned to "Rotting" camp before the next 7 minute spawn. By the time he medded up from the roamers, the statics were popping again, so I washed, rinsed and repeated. I ended up with 5 stacks of spider silk that I needed for one of my boxes tailoring, hehe, and in the process I didn't take any hostages during the brutal 7 hour 15 minute "Rotting" camp.
VP Keys
# Aug 01 2003 at 12:08 PM Rating: Decent
My guild is currently working on these keys for one HUGE reason, dragon scales. Green dragons scales to be specific (i.e. like the one that drops off of the ever elusive Sev), that alone is a good reason for VP.

Cats in Hats woke the sleeper... the didn't kill it. In fact, most believe they woke it for no other reason than griefing the rest of the server.

I will bet that they didn't kill him. when he was spawned on my server I was there to wacth, He had a massive regen and a deathtouch from hell!!! though the guilds that spawned him did well there was no chance, they sent in 48 groups 7 groups at a time every 10 sec about 110 ppl in zone at one time and still never got him below 4 bubs of life.

How to Identify

Ummmmm...okay, I have the spell Identify, but how do I target an item?

Thanks!
RE: How to Identify
# Jul 01 2003 at 4:05 PM Rating: Default
just a little bit of fyi, i came across an interesting use for identify for the magically challenged. you can get someone with identify have them target you while you hold something in your cursor and it lets them id the item in your hand, if i remember correctly only they see the id info, but they can tell you about it, i may be wrong about that part, but i do know it works regardless of who it tells, hehe. hope that helps for some of you, its a good way to find out about those no drop items all you melees pick up, hehe.
RE: How to Identify
# Jul 08 2002 at 9:01 PM Rating: Good
Hold the object in your cursor, then cast identify.

If your tak tooth can be traded,it isn't the correct one for this Quest.

All medallions are MQ'able.

The Silvery Mask IS a Quest item, you get it from Captain Bvellos in the bank for turning in Icepaw Kobold Paws (dropped in Velks) 4 Paws will give you some faction, and a silvery mask or an Antlered mask.. If you got it off a named then either 1, it is also in Captain Bvellos's loot table, or 2, someone Gave it to a named giant before you killed it!

Yup, seems alot of mobs in Kael can either quest an item or drop it.
Have had a couple of silvery masks drop around the bank area, probably was Bvellos.

interesting note:

I was in Kael Drakkal and killed a giant which dropped a Silver Dragon Tattoo. A no drop quest item dropped by a giant. always made me wonder if some of the quest items are actually on the loot table, or if someone actually gave a giant a no drop quest item...
RE: silvery mask
# May 20 2004 at 5:45 AM Rating: Decent
Well, when you give an NPC a no drop item, it either tries to use it for a quest, gives it back, or eats it. No drop items are NOT added to the loot table, whereas droppable items are.

This is to prevent people from trading no drop items by giving them to some easily killable mob, and then having the other person loot.

So that Silver Dragon Tattoo had to be on the original loot list, it couldn't have been given to the giant.

Is Veeshan's peak key multi-questable?
I have a warrrior who already has the vp key but he also have another trak tooth for vp key quest.
So, i was wondering if he can turn in the trak tooth and my other char turn in three medallions to get the vp key.
If anyone has info on this plz let me know

RE: IS VP key MQ possible?
# Jun 11 2002 at 2:50 AM Rating: Default
Erhmm - the Trakanon Tooth, off the undead dragon in Sebilis, is very much NODROP. However, all the medallions and the tooth itself are definitely MQable. Just make sure you get the hand-ins done in order so that the last item comes from the person who should receive the NODROP results. (Every piece of the VP key is NODROP).

The Trakasaurus Tooth, a rogue piercer off a named saurus in Trak's Teeth, is droppable, but totally unrelated to the VP key quest.

For one, there has been much talk recently of revamping VP, so you should go ahead and get your keys. And also VP never was/is pushover, yes it is easier than NToV but VP is a one way dungeon and a pain to get into, the loot is still relatively good, the dragons is VP can be a pain even for people who do NToV, the only reason that VP isn't much harder than NToV is because all the dragons in their have 32k HP, which allows uber guilds to kill them very quickly, once they revamp it and up the mobs HPs it will be the hardest place in the game. And also VP can take days to clear, which is another reason why most guilds do not bother going there.
RE: VP
# Apr 16 2002 at 11:45 AM Rating: Default
"VP can Take days to clear" i was scrolling through guild sites yesterday. and i have a money shot of all 5 dragons corpses on the ground. which means they were all killed from first attack to last in under 30mins. so it does not take days to clear. TOV does on the other hand
RE: VP

#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 25 2002 at 4:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Um yah... Sleepers Holds loads harder mobs then anywhere in VP. So, um, yah... VP is a push over compared to Sleepers. Think of it this way, to kill all the mobs for the VP key you need to kill things that are green to you at 60, do quests for things you can seemingly solo ect. For the Sleepers key, you have to have a raid to kill a red dragon who only sometimes drops a +7 to all stats neck peice. And then you have to sacrifice that item for the key. Now tell me... what sounds harder in the risk/reward catigory? =p
RE: VP
# Apr 22 2002 at 9:11 PM Rating: Default
It has nothing to do with risk vs. reward when doing quest keys.

It's true that getting the key to the sleepers is a raid event. But, bare in mind that once you get the key to the sleepers, you will be able to get items that most people could only ever dream of.

For a Uber guild, they care little about risk vs reward when doing the key quest for Sleepers. Because We know that once you get it, the reward outweighs risk.

Sleepers Tomb. The zone not the creature. That's why it is plural. Sleepers Tomb does have creatures in it. They do have loot tables. So you can get loot in here without having to fight the Sleeper. The GM thing was with them deathtouching, not nuking. I have heard the same myth about the sleeper with the GM's chain DTing him. Let me explain what a death touch is. it is instantaneous death. You can do more damage to a creature than it's hitpoints. Make a necro, and lifetap a noob creature with a 100+ damage lifetap. You do the same damage and get the hitpoints, but the creature only had say 30 hitpoints. Now, go take on Gorenaire, Cazic Thule or any of the 20 or so mobs with the Deathtouch ability. You will see one thing. The damage is always equal to your hitpoints. Now that has been explained, on to Risk/reward.

You have to slay 5 of the toughest dragons in game just to get in to the tomb. If your guild can do that, your guild can easily raid here, so long as noone wakes the sleeper. To the Risk/reward is much easier. There is little risk, but a chance big rewards.

So Anonymous, please check what the person is saying before you post. I'm sure there are plenty of others who come here who would call you a noob, so I wont. Just get facts straight before you post.

Oh, one last thing. The sleeper can be killed, just noone has found a way to do it yet. With the introduction of bane damage weapons, artifact spells, alternate advancement abilities, and the possibility of higher levels with the planes of power expansion, there may be a way, just noone has found it yet, or cannot try it cause some uber guild on their server decided to show off how tough they were by waking the Sleeper and taking HER out of the game. And yes, it is a her, not a him as everyone thinks.

RE: VP

a little correction for you Lizalfos.... 1) Death touch is 20,000 damage DD... I've gotten DTed by the golems in fear, keeper of souls in PoA, and the old cazic (he doesn't DT anymore) its allways the same 20,000 damage. You can even resist part of it (granted you will still die but i've been hit for 19,998 before )

2) you don't have to slay 5 of the toughest dragons in the game to get in... you have to slay ONE of the 5 dragons to get a talisman and get in to Sleepers Tomb.

figured ya should know considering you were correcting people and all
RE: VP
# Jul 30 2003 at 3:53 PM Rating: Default
I think what he meant was you have to slay the same frickin 5 dragons (and AOW) over and over and over to get enough people with the key to get into Sleeper's Tomb. One dragon dead = one key.

But to get the raid force to go in you need alot of keys.
RE: VP
# Oct 03 2002 at 6:05 AM Rating: Default
Actually, you don't have to kill any dragons to get into Sleeper's Tomb. Now the big named mobs in Kael (Tormax, Statue, etc) drop talisman shards which are used for the key. Not sure how long this has been in effect but I do know that it has been a few months.

RE: VP
# Jan 09 2003 at 8:28 AM Rating: Default
the shards are rare though, and if you cant kill the dragons that drop the talismans you have no business being in ST to begin with. also, to say that you have to slay one dragon is slightly misleading. you have to slay one per key, so likely somewhere between 24 and 48 all told.

VP was "THE" boss zone when Kunark came out. The MoBs were all impossibly hard, dropped awesome loot and only the very best of the "Uber" guilds could dream of doing it.

Then SoV came out.

VP is now pretty easy with medicore loots. Almost no one ever goes there because its such a pain to get hold of enough keys to get a guild (or a few groups) in there for the reletivly bad loot. Much easier to go to ToV and get something way better.

Maybe verant will do a Chardok style revamp on the place or make the keys easier to get.

You don't turn in your OS key, ever. You keep that (Idol of Trakanon). What you turn in with the Kylong, Obulus and Jarsath medallions is the tooth of Trakanon himself.
Not the hardest
# Aug 29 2001 at 9:33 AM Rating: Decent
Ya, right, its a pushover....

Thats why I was in ToV with over 125 people there, and not a soul in this zone. In fact, no one I play with has ever been to this zone. On my server I only know of two guilds who have ever tried this zone.

The mobs are difficult, the keys are a pain to get, the zone in is a pain to break, and its horribly annoying to get out of. ToV is not harder than VP.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 23 2001 at 10:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ToV North is Veeshan's Peak v2.0. VP is a push over nowadays, my guild clears it for fun/boredom.

Obviously it's not THAT easy :P
What he/she means is that VP is more like a stepping stone for a guild if anything. If you are able to hunt NToV (that's North Temple, NOT Halls of Testing or West Wing), then VP is a pushover.
