Step 1: Kill everything until elephant calf or a cyclops spawn.
Step 2: Leave all elephant calf , cyclops, alive.
Step 3 Kill an_elephant mobs, Quillmane AND Grizzleknot have an_elephant as a PH confirmed. So if you want other named instead, leave an_elephant alone for the time being, to make it easier. If you want them, start with every an_elephant only.
Step 3: as named spawn leave them alone. Including:
Step 4: if you want Mroon, cyclops are PH. I found it easier to leave cyclops up as I spawned in the calves and then kill them elimination style.
a one eyed gnoll
a Splitpaw gnoll
a Lleth Val scribe
The Ishva Mal (killing his Ishva ph just gets him, so whatever)
Cracktusk
Gnashmaw
Zrithsadioun
Coloth Meadowgreen
Brother Qwinn
an undead cyclops
Sir Nandruar
Sentry Alechin
a werewolf

What will happen is you have a few cyclops wandering the zone, a lot of elephant calves, an_elephant (plural of calf)
Named will begin popping fast doing this. Kill them if you need them butif not leave them alive as it narrows down your targets.

As you go, you will have less mobs to hunt and kill like adult elephants, lions, lionesses, wolves. At that point focus on all the aviaks and centaurs roaming and you will soon see another lion, wolf, or escaped gnolls. Keep killing these and you will get more of your named.

Rinse repeat meaning once they end in a dead end like calf, or cyclops, or named, go back to aviaks and centaurs. The ones which will really work are the ones near the middle, those are mostly PH. Specifically Synger Frostfyre, her PH mostly spanwed just east or north of Splitpaw, the centaurs

Currently doing this I have these roaming:

Quillmane
Coloth Meadowgreen
Kroldir Thunderhoof
killed Knari Mohawk
Synger Frostfyre
killed Marik Clubthorn
Brother Qwinn (which is Narra ph)
Mroon (cyclops as ph)

These come and go

Shaman Lenrel
Zrithsadioun
High Shaman Phido
High Shaman Grisok
Kurrpok Splitpaw
Gnashmaw
Cracktusk
Shaman Ren`Rex
a werewolf
Grol Gutblade

These come and go as they fight another mob and die or they despawn/respawn when PH dies. The named gnolls aren't always up 5 at a time, b ut I've had at least 3 as I go.

Shaman Lenrel
Zrithsadioun
High Shaman Phido
High Shaman Grisok
Kurrpok Splitpaw
Gnashmaw
Cracktusk
Shaman Ren`Rex
a werewolf
an undead cyclops

A few of these will die at the hands of Tesch Mas gnolls, others, like Gnashmaw and Zrithsadioun almost any mob aggros them. Ignore them.

Some of your sought after mobs will be attacked and killed by Tesch Mas Gnolls, or named gnolls. Marik Clubthorn and Kroldir Thunderhoof gets killed by them, as well as an escaped Splitpaw gnoll so keep that in mind.

I have yet to see Marik Clubthorn up with Synger Frostfyre yet...still trying. Als haven't seen Knari up with Synger yet, but I'm sure he is on a different cycle.
Again, for Mroon, it was a cyclops I killed and then he spawned but I waited until I had spawned what I mentioned at the start, as many elephant calf as I could and the rest cyclops/named/ aviaks and centaurs which were producing nothing

This works like novacaine..give it time and leave the appropriate mobs alive.

Hunting South Karana

13 named rares for Hunter of The Southern Plains of Karana.

4 gnolls from Paw, these are optional. Easy to hunt because they each have a unique placeholder and they roam a path around the Paw zone area.
- Nisch Val Torash Mashk
- Rosch Val L'Vlor
- Tesch Val Deval'Nmak
- Tesch Val Kadvem

1 static spawn, Lord Grimrot, at 1378, 1172 underneath a platform in the skeleton circle, respawn roughly 2.5 hours. Placeholder is one of the putrid skeletons, the only putrid one standing up. Most skeletons and putrid skeletons have a quick respawn, but the ph for Lord Grimrot has a long spawn time. There are two versions of Lord Grimrot, you need the live version, the undead skeleton version doesn't count for hunter.

Cycles

There are 8 roaming named rares on cycles -- these are the difficult ones to hunt. While you could run around killing every roaming trash mob you find, that method probably takes a lot longer.

Cycle respawn time is 60-66 seconds. Compared to most trash which respawns in about 30 seconds. Centaurs maybe a couple minutes.

Tracking

South Karana is big. The best ranger can only track about 5500 distance here, while the zone is 10000 north-south, 7000 east-west. So rangers can track the whole zone from the center, but from the ends of the zone they can only track part of it.

Mobs on a cycle spawn in a limited area specific to their cycle, but then they roam the whole zone. So it is not possible to choose the cycle you're hunting before you start on one, because all trash are mixed together throughout the zone. It's best to have the zone to yourself so you can control the respawns in your track window and keep random respawns to a minimum. Even then there will still be the occasional mob death and random respawn when mobs fight each other.

To find a 60-second spawn cycle, set your track window to normal, kill trash mobs, and check the respawn time in your track window. One way is to gather a pile of trash mobs, kill them all at once, and wait to see if any of them respawn in the 60 second time frame. If you find a mob with the right respawn time, track it down and kill just that mob, and repeat. This is a cycle and every mob in it will respawn after 60 seconds including eventually the rare. There are also a couple of additional cycles for named mobs that aren't on the hunter list. For a list of the potential placeholders for one of the rares, check the comments page for that rare. Note that freshly spawned mobs stay in place for about half a minute, always facing north, before starting to roam.

Grizzleknot -- treant. PH spawn rectangle in the far east side of the zone, between hermit and north water.

Knari Morawk -- aviak. PH limited to aviaks only. Spawn rectangle between aviak village and Paw, east and west.

Kroldir Thunderhoof -- centaur. PH limited to centaurs only. Spawn rectangle in the northwest area west of centaur village.

Marik Clubthorn -- barbarian male. PH spawn rectangle in the east half of the zone, generally north of aviak village and south of Paw.

Mroon -- cyclops. PH spawn rectangle in the far south side of the zone, south of hermit, east and west.

Narra Tanith -- half elf female. Shares spawn cycle with Brother Qwinn (bad faction). PH spawn rectangle in the far west side of zone, all the way north and south. Overlaps Gnawfang cycle.

Quillmane -- famed pegasus. PH spawn rectangle south of Paw, between aviak village and hermit house.

Synger Foxfyre -- halfing female. PH spawn rectangle in the west half of the zone, north of Paw, south of Baenar Swiftsong.
Don't worry about having to spawn Quillmane.

You will see Quillmane spawn 5 to 10+ times before you get Lord Grimrot. Hell, Quillmane spawned without me killing anything but skeletons. So he spawned just from random PH being killed by other mobs.Think I am on 8 Quillmane spawns, zero Lord Grimrot.

Lord Grimrot from what I remember has a PH in the camp where a large group of skellies are at.
