Master Raska may be found at 387, 122, in the monks' courtyard.

    You say, 'Hail, Master Raska'

Master Raska says 'Hmmph!! Expect to be a great master such as I? Maybe. You still appear to be a [whiff].'

You say, 'What is a whiff?'

Master Raska says 'A whiff is the sound of a tail striking air. A whiff is you. Inexperienced. I can help you. If you [want to earn the second shackle].'

You say, 'I want to earn the second shackle.'

Master Raska says 'Then you shall perform the first rite. Take this pack. To the Outlands you will go. You will fill and combine the pack with one of each of the following - goblin scout beads, a large scorpion pincer, a froglok skipper's skipping stone and a sabertooth cub canine. Return the full first rite pack and you shall prove yourself a monk.'

Combine to craft a Full First Rite Pack, which you should hand in:

Master Raska says 'You have succeeded, young ______! You have proven yourself a skilled monk. You will now wear the shackle of clay. You will now be required to increase your intensity of training in hopes that you may soon be able to earn your [shackle of stone].'

    LOC of Froglok Skipper

Skippers can be found by following the path south from Cabalis in the Swamp. I spent an hour searching the zone before I followed the path south and found one at LOC +375, +2600. My first kill didn't produce the skipping stone, but I returned about 20 minutes later and found a second Skipper at the same LOC. This one dropped a skipping stone.
The goblin scout and sabertooth cub took 2 minutes to find outside Cabilis in LOIO. The Large scorpions are easy to find in FoB.
    Happy Questing!

Yes the Skippers are on this island. Just go around and kill and loot everything on this island to give the Skippers a chance to spawn. Doing this I found three skippers in under ten minutes on this island. None existed before I started my wholesale slaughter of everything on the island.

Just did this quest. What makes this quest a pain is the components that work look almost identical to the ones that don't.

you want a cub canine, not a kitten canine. The saber cubs and kittens are found in the newbie area of LOIO, and scout beads from the gobby scouts also there.

Then you need the LARGE scorpion pincer off the large scorps in field of bone. Had to bounce back and forth to this darn list a half dozen times before I got the right items. Large scorpion pincers and regular scorpion pincers look identical. Ya want the one that isn't a wind instrument.

Lastly you need the Froggy skipping stone which just says "A skipping stone" and drops off the froggy skippers in the swamp of no hope.

Turn it all in and you get.... TA DA!! a crappy newbie bracer. However it is the part of a long quest chain that ends in... another crappy bracer. However, they may continue the chain one day and end it in something neato. For the moment this is pretty decent newbie armor. While these quests are kinda goofy and don't really result in anything breathtaking, they're still worth doing, if only for the bragging rites.

Faelawen Starfyre, the Mad Mage of Povar.

PS: Raska is behind Glox, the meditating guy you give your newbie note to.

PPS: You talk to Raska first and get a 4 slot bag, put the stuff in the bag, hit combine and hand it back to him.

PPPS: (This is getting silly) Anyhoo, They just added another quest to the line. The Shackle of Tynnonium. A bracer which does very much not suck. So now this quest line really IS worth doing.

I of course dont have shackles of dust. So if I have a friend start new mnk and turn note into npc (which one by the way?) He then receives shkl. Then i gather items for shackle of clay. When we go to Master Riska i am combining items? Please clarify and be specific, i want to go back and complete these shackle quests, but ive messed up the beginning. Thanks for your help.

Can a Human Monk do the Shackle Quests? If so... where and how do i start?

Yes, verant even made the bracers monk wearable and removed the faction cap for human's so that they could do the quest to do the epic. there's lotsa guides out there (already) on the best way to get your faction up

Saying that didn't get me anywhere. I ended up saying "What is a Whif?" Note the spelling Difference. For those looking for the Skipping stones get off the enterance and go to the first island...Almost 3 of 5 Of the Skippers that I killed had the Skipping stones!! Easy to kill, just watch out for the Hunter!

I also get the whiff response from Raska. I tried responding with "What is a whiff" with no results. Just seems to ignore me. I petitioned a Gm and asked him to see if the quest was broken. Maybe we will see a patch soon, correcting any problems with this quest.
    Rawlins' multiquest suggestion
    # Oct 03 2001 at 8:17 PM Rating: Default
Rawlins suggested multiquesting for the shackle of clay if you lost the shackle of dust. Was this Nerfed(TM) during the multi-quest changes? I was told that most of the changed quest were in Velious and not Kunark. Can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks!

I think that the best advice that I received on this quest was the one about buying the skipping stone from a merchant:) thanks I had other items in the bank and had given up on that quest:( But a month later and now I can complete it:)
    Thanks a lot.

what bag, how do i get the bag
    re:didn't work
    # Jun 15 2001 at 6:52 PM Rating: Default
did you combine the bag? or did you just give the bag to the person? cause i did that first and i didn't know what happened then i found out i didn't combine the contents in the bag is that what was wrong?
    RE: re:didn't work
    # Jun 25 2001 at 9:14 AM Rating: Decent
You have to combine the items in the bag and then give the full bag to him.

With the patches that have happenned recently you no longer lose item if you have the wrong items so so this quest won't be so difficult for newbies hopefully.

    Good luck.
    Getting a new dust shackle
    # Apr 28 2001 at 6:36 AM Rating: Excellent
I found this quest with my necro. She was going around NPC bugging when one outside her guild asked her if she had her broodling robes. I told him "no" and he gave me a book to give to the toilmaster. While I did this with my necro, I know for a fact that Master Niska asks the same question about your bracer. If you answer her "no" she will give you a book as well (same book).

When I gave it to him, he gave me a penance book. It tells you to say "give me the hammer of exoneration" and say "I need a bag". He gives you a HUGE (wt 25) 2HB hammer and a 8slot bag. You are instructed to go to the Mortician and say "I need a mortar and pestle". He gives you an 8 slot grinder.

The idea is that you attack with the hammer and it knocks off "Bone Fragments" (no drop). These go into the Mortal and Pestle. When you have 8 you combine and get "Bone Dust" (no drop). You put the dust in the Penance bag. Repeat until you have 7 piles of dust in the Penance bag, add blood water and combine. Take the bag back to who originated your quest, give them the book and the combined bag back, and you get your newbie item back.

I know that this is a lot of work. And the technique described about of having a friend create a new monk (or whatever) is easier. But it is possible to recover "in game". Funnily enough, the two game masters that we petitioned about our lost shackle, didn't seem to know that this quest existed.

BTW, there is no faction hit or gain from doing this quest. As a matter of fact, when I completed it, I got another bag from the Toilmaster (the mortar is left alone). Between the mortal, penance bag, curscale bag, and the ingredients mortar from the shamans, I have 4 bags in the bank that were free :)

I had all the components to do this quest save the froglok skipping stone.. I look everywhere for those frogloks but couldn't find any. After a while I needed food so I went back into Cabilis and sure enough at the food merchant there were skipping stones ready to buy. They sell from a merchant for 1sp and some change and since i'd been killing frogloks all day, it wasn't breaking my pocket. My advice, if you can't find the froglok skippers, try a merchant.

Ok don't freek out if you destroyed the dust shackles this is easily fixable..

Get a friend to role an Iskar monk

Have him turn in his note to get his dusty shackles

Group with him.. have him give the dusty shackles to the NPC

You then give the remaining pieces to the NPC and recive the quest item

I did this earlier today it does work just like Jboots and so many other No drop quests
    Need shackle of dust?
    # Feb 08 2001 at 11:10 AM Rating: Default
Like an idiot I destroyed my shackle of dust when I was lvl1. I now want to restart my shackle quests. Do I need my original shackle of dust to get the shackle of clay and continue with my quests. I have heard there is a way to get your shackle of dust over again by creating a new character and handing in the new character's guild summons. Is this possible? Do I even need the shackle of dust to get the clay? Please help!!!!
    Did this quest last night
    # Jan 21 2001 at 5:50 PM Rating: Good
Was pretty easy for a level 5/6 monk.

Got the large scorpion pincer off the scorps in the field of bone. Luckily for me, I caught a time when there were a few wandering around the newbie area, and didn't have to go to the pit.
Second scorpion I killed dropped the pincer. Large Scorpions were white and yellow to lvl 5.

Sabertooth cub tooth I got from the lake of ill omen. IMPORTANT: Make sure it's the CUB tooth, not the kitten. The cubs wander around the same area as the kittens, but perhaps a little further out, around the goblin outpost. Dropped off the second cub I killed.
Cubs were blue to me at 5.

Goblin Scout beads: the goblins are in the same area as the sabertooth cubs, around the outpost building there. Beads dropped off the first scout I killed. Just make sure you got SCOUT beads, not any other kind.
Scouts were also blue to me at 5.

    The froglok skipper skipping stone:
This was the hardest oart of the quest, and was only difficult in terms of patience. I headed out along the right edge of the water (facing away from Cabilis) and wandered around on that hill by the water edge. The skipper spawns seemed kind of erratic, and I killed about 20 skippers before one finally dropped the stone. But up on that edge, you avoid most things that can kill you. (At 5, the skeletons were yellow, and at 6, the froglok fisher I encountered was yellow) You can also see a good deal of the skipper's hangouts. They spawn around that hill, and along the close edge of the island. You can see the frogloks across the water. I got used to listening for the trademark froglock suction-cup hopping sound, and would barrel of in that direction as soon as I heard it.
Other frogloks I found in the area are tads (green to 5/6) escorts, blue to 6, escaped frogloks, also blue, and the froglok fisher that was yellow to me at six.

While you're waiting, there's large mosquitos and giant swamp leeches in the area that con blue and give decent exp. As well as the occasional skeleton. Only the skeles and non-green frogloks woul aggro on me, even though both the large mosquitos and giant swamp leeches conned "ready to attack"

All in all, I went from halfway into level 5, to 2 bubs into 6 experience trying to complete the quest.

Shackle of clay is AC 3, and I got 2 gold from Raska when I turned in the bag.
    Heh

Ok i thought "ok first quest really easy". Wrong mindset. You can do this quest the right way or the easy way i chose the easy way and it didnt work. You need BEADS off a Goblin SCOUT not a watcher. You need the tooth off of a CUB not a kitten. You get the pincer from the scorpions in the pit. and the skipping stone comes off the Froglok skipper and is simply named a skipping stone. took me a while to figure out. hope it helps.
Was it the right type of pincer too?
    # Nov 03 2000 at 8:41 PM Rating: Default
Also, you need the right type of pincer, was it a scorpion pincer or a large scorpion pincer?

There's a small error in this quest. Responding with "What is a whiff?" wont get you anywhere. If you instead respond with "What is a whif?" (note the difference in spelling) he'll start spilling the beans. Happy questing folks

I did this quest and It destroyed all the items, The only part I might have got wrong is the skipping stone. I got it off the frogluk skipper. Does it have to say Frogluk Skipping stone or just skipping stone? All my components were destroyed, why did'nt this work? (Yes I am a monk etc. No stupid replies please.)

Hate to ask such a stupid question, but did you give the stuff to Raska or combine it in the bag?
Was it a cub canine or a kitten canine ?
    # Oct 11 2000 at 6:40 AM Rating: Default
Same happened to me, only I think it's because of the tooth...I used a sabretooth kitten canine
RE: Was it a cub canine or a kitten canine ?
    # Feb 14 2001 at 11:51 AM Rating: Default
it was a cub tooth.. They are there you just have to look for them.. it took me about 10-15 Min per Cub and the first 3 did not have the tooth.
Now I just trying to get a Skipping stone hehe not having too much luck
RE: Was it a cub canine or a kitten canine ?

Skipping stones can be bought in The Field of Bone at the mercants in the big building one right and left as you enter the area from town.
