 This quest is obtained from Kerath Punox in Sul Vius: Demiplane of Life.


It seems that there may be up to six different versions of this task -and seem to be related to progression for requesting heroic adventures in Crypt of Sul.

The assignments vary, but boil down to:

1) Kill commanders, destroy ballistas
2) Kill mobs, destroy weapon crates, kill more mobs
3) Kill mobs, kill commanders
4) Kill mobs, kill couriers, kill more mobs
5) Kill mobs, kill ballistas, kill commanders (listed above)
6) Kill mobs, destroy weapon racks

One note about the tasks involving killing inanimate objects (weapon crates, ballista, weapon racks, etc): The mobs guarding any one of these objects seem to be aggro-linked. They can be snared, haven't checked for root.

You say, 'Hail, Kerath Punox'

Kerath Punox says 'Ah, yes. My brother has spoken of you, Tarvas. I'm sure he told you what our business is, so I won't bother you with that. All I want to know is whether you are interested in some [private] work, you and a few friends. Or are you one of those folks that prefers a [larger endeavor]?'

You say, 'private'

Kerath Punox says 'It is good to see you again, Tarvas. We appreciate that you have taken up the [job] [opportunities] we have found [for you]. Things appear to be coming to a head, and your assistance is desired once again. My contact, it seems, was impressed with your skills and, in their desperation, has asked for you specifically. This offers both of us a [chance] to earn a bit more than usual.'

You say, 'job'

Kerath Punox says 'A good choice. I am uncertain exactly what it is that they are in need of. There will be a list of some sort available to you once you arrive. I know that is very little information, but it seems that my contacts only want you to know what they desire. For some reason they do not trust me. Under that condition, are you [still interested]?'

You say, 'still interested'

Kerath Punox says 'Well chosen. You know the way to the Plane of Health, I'm sure. Be warned, things have changed some since you last passed that way.'

Zone in by zoning into Plane of Heath from either Sul or PoT.



Objective Instructions:

Step #1

  1. Fight your way through the invaders 0/8 (The Plane of Health)

    Task Window Says: Fight your way through the invaders from Decay.

    Several groups of invaders are right to the east of the zone in.


    Step #2
  2. Destroy the ballistas being used against the Plane of Health 0/5 (The Plane of Health)

    Task Window Says: Destroy the ballistas in the area.

    Fight your way to the north west, ballista's are clustered around the zone in hut to Sul Vius. Everything sees invis and IVU. Each ballista has two to three mobs around it. The ballista themselves are immune to spells. There are six all together.


    Step #3
  3. Kill the commanders directing the attack upon the Plane of Health (0/5) (The Plane of Health)

    Task Window Says: Head through the gateway, and kill the commanders in the area who are leading the attack.

    There is one commander and two adds. They are not linked and can be mezzed. No need to kill them to get the updates.

    Tasks locks after the completion of the that step. The name or PH (a bubonian wartail) spawns along with the collectibles.


    Step #4
  4. Speak to Lashun Novashine 0/1 (The Plane of Health)

    Task Window Says: Speak to Lashun Novashine within the outpost.

    Hail him to get the update. He says nothing. Located at north western gate (/loc 2231, -954).


    Step #5
  5. Open the chest 0/1 (The Plane of Health)

That step ends the task. You get a pop up for the Lesser Health Spirit collectible. In the chest was a Greater Essence of Life and a Strifetorn Faceguard.

    Task Window Says: Speak to Lashun Novashine to get more details on where your help is needed

    Lashun can be on different spots depending on what steps you get. In one, he is to the right when you zone in – otherwise use ”Find”.

    If You Get This Step: Hail Lashun Novashine.

    Lashun Novashine says 'Thanks Rodcet you're here! We're under attack from the Plane of Decay. Any help you can provide is most appreciated! Here take this, It will call in a squad of Winged Defenders to your side should you find yourself in need of assistance.'

    You recieve a Whistle of Summoning

    Speak to Lashun Novashine.

    Lashun Novashine says 'We're being invaded by the armies of Decay. Any help you can lend to push them back is greatly appreciated. Show them no mercy!'

  2. Kill enemy invaders from the Plane of Decay 0/8 (Plane of Health)

    Task Window Says: ?

    If You Get This Step: Kill invaders, they are to the left when you zone in. Some can be snared, some not.


  3. Kill invaders from the Plane of Decay 0/8 (Plane of Health)

    Task Window Says: Head outside the gate to the East and engage the invaders from the Plane of Decay. Kill as many as you can!

    If You Get This Step: Kill invaders.


  4. Destroy the enemy's supplies 0/6 (Plane of Health)

    Task Window Says: ?

    If You Get This Step: Down the path, in the valley, you find 6 chest guarded by 2-3 mobs each. Note: you don’t have to kill the mobs, just destroy the supplies.


  5. Destroy the ballistas being used against the Plane of Health 0/5 (Plane of Health)

    Task Window Says: ?

    If You Get This Step: Destroy 5 ballistas


  6. Kill the puslings attempting to infect the Plane of Health 0/12 (Plane of Health)

    Task Window Says: The puslings are attacking Plane of Health, trying to infect everything with their filth. Head down the hill and push them back. More invaders from Plane of Decay are advancing from the northwest. Destroy them!

    If You Get This Step: Kill corrupted/foul/tainted puslings

  7. Loot infectious weapons from the dead invaders from the Plane of Decay (0/6)

    Task Window Says:?

    If You Get This Step: Loot Spoiled Whips from the invaders.


  8. Kill the invading minions of Decay 0/8 (Plane of Health)

    Task Window Says: Huge decaying Brutes have entered the Plane of Health. Use the whistle Lashun gave you to call in a squad of Winged Defenders to help you fight them off.

    If You Get This Step: Kill ”a virulent brute” west of the center.

    When clicking the whistle on the wrong mob:

    The whistle makes no sound. Perhaps you should use it only when really needed?

    When used on a virulent brute, you get 2 winged defenders to help tank/dos

    - Virulent brutes have lots of hp
    - Quest seems bugged, as whistle works on brutes (but not on other mobs), but the kills does not update the quest.

    - A shining strider and a fragment of life assists brutes.


  9. Intercept attack orders being delivered to the front lines by courier 0/4 Plane of Health

    Task Window Says: With the leaders from the assault staying back from the front lines, they pass their attack orders to the invaders via courier. Intercept the couriers and take the orders they possess. They probably won’t just hand them to you. Take them by any means necessary.

    If You Get This Step: Kill 4 Bubonian Courier. They’re up to the NE. Watch out for mobs on the sides of the valley, and you can single pull the couriers just fine.

  10. Crush the Plane of Decays commanders (0/5)

    Task Window Says: ?

    If You Get This Step: Further down to the left, there’s like a circle of mobs. Some of them are Commanders, kill those.

  11. Thin the ranks of the invaders from the Plane of Decay 0/10 Plane of Health

    Task Window Says: There are still a great number of invaders here. Help thin the ranks and send a message to Plane of Decay that they’re not welcome here. Kill as many as possible!

    If You Get This Step: Kill invaders. (Any mob with ”invader” in its name seems to do, as well as ”commanders”.

  12. Deliver 6 Spoiled Whip to Lashun Novashine (0/6)

    Task Window Says: ?

    Return to Lashun with the weapons you collected

    If You Get This Step:
    Return to Lashun next to where you zoned in and give Lashun the 6 Spoiled Whips.

    Lashun Novashine says 'Thank you. Hopefully taking these from the enemy will reduce their effectiveness and the harm they do.'

    Your task 'In Defense of Health' has been updated.


  13. Deliver the marching orders to Sara Eggers

    Task Window Says: Deliver the marching orders you’ve collected to Sara Eggers at the NORTH gate into the outer ring.

    If You Get This Step: Give 4 Marching Orders of Decay to Sara Eggers.

    Sara Eggers says 'Outstanding work! With these marching orders, we can intercept and defend against their attacks much more easily!'

  14. Open the chest

Use ”Find” on map to find the chest, it may be far away, depending of your adventure!

Your task 'In Defense of Health' has been updated.

The denizens of the Plane of Health are a little safer because of your efforts. They now have a chance to push back the invaders.

    Upon speaking with Lashun, you receive a Whistle you will use for Step 4.

    Set a Campfire up here to just pop back for turn in and chest loot.


  2. Step 2 - Kill the puslings attempting to infect the Plane of Health 0/6

    Notes: Just outside of the center gazebo


  3. Step 3 - Kill the invading minions of Decay 0/4

    Notes: Outer ring of Health zone, I went NW and found a number of them there.


  4. Step 4 - Summon Winged Defenders of Health to assist with Virulent Brutes 0/4

    Notes: Due West from center just inside from the outer ring. Huge Aggro range. Have All the players click their whistles for each Brute as the Winged Defenders do a Ton of DPS and the Brutes have almost 30 Million HPs. for each person that clicks their whistle it will add about 50k DPS or so.

  5. Step 5 - Return the whistle to Lashun Novashine 0/1

    Notes: Only need to return 1 whistle.


  6. Step 6 - Open the chest 0/1

    Lashun Novashine says 'The forces of Decay are threatening to overrun the outpost and gain a foothold here. The gate overseers have been wounded and need help. Head to the outpost west of here and see if you can help them. I think you'll find this potion helpful in that regard.'

    You have been given: Vial of Healing Salve

    (each toon in the task get one, 5 charges each)


  2. Rescue injured overseers 0/4

    Kill bubonians, pestilent and leprous mobs in groups of 1-3 around each of 4 injured overseers. The mobs are tightly linked: pull one of the group and they all come, seemingly regardless of distance. Mezzable, snareable. Root didn't seem to hold.

    When mobs at each overseer are dead, target overseer and click Vial of Healing Salve

    When you heal the fourth injured overseer your task will update.

    TASK LOCKS HERE


  3. Destroy the invaders' weapons 0/5

    There are six widely spaced weapons racks near the zone to Plane of Life. Each is guarded by 1-3 mobs, tightly linked. Kill the mobs or kite them away and destroy the weapon racks.

    When the fifth weapon rack is destroyed your task updates.


  4. Return the vial to Lashun Novashine

    Give him any one toon's vial.

    Lashun Novashine says 'Thank you. We may have need of this in the future.'


  5. Open the chest

    You have received a replay timer for 'In Defense of Health': 0d:1h:18m remaining.
    The denizens of the Plane of Health are a little safer because of your efforts. They now have a chance to push back the invaders.
    You receive 300 platinum .

I got this HA as the daily from Teek. If Kerath is responding with "You should probably speak to so-and-so about such-and-such" this is her obscure way of telling you that you have not completed the pre-reqs for this. They are:

1) Into the Temple (A) https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=8049
2) Seal of Approval https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=8080

AND

3) Into the Temple (B) https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=8081

I tried to get the HA after 1 and 2 no deal. I knew that #3 was a pita and I did it for ***** and giggles to see if that opened the HA, and it did. If it helps here's a great walkthrough to #3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwOV-VHB7Eo

And after all that ... when I have the group quest, and click to zone into PoH, and I select "Adventure" I get the message...
"The way is blocked to you. Perhaps you would be able to enter if there was a reason to come here."

I give up.

****EDIT**** took a break and made a sandwich. Logged back in, dropped and re-added from Kerath and got in fine. Completed the HA finally lol

This has been mentioned before, but here are the details.

Kill the skirmishers advancing upon your position 0/5
they surround the gazebo

Destroy the enemy's supplies 0/4 (Plane of Health)
Down the path, in the valley, you'll find 6 chests guarded by 2 or 3 mobs each. You don't have to kill the mobs, just destroy the supplies

Kill the skirmishers advancing upon your position 0/5
they respawn and surround the gazebo again

Four points of shining light catch your eye.
A formidable foe approaches in the distance. Find it to challenge it.

Vomitous - a rare creature - scowls at you, ready to attack -- it appears to be quite formidable. (Lvl: 109)

Vomitous spawned at the top of the ramp that goes down towards the supply crates

As of 3/14/2021 you do have to kill the mobs guarding the chests. Attacking the chest aggros them.

The enemy's supplies are in chests. And yes they have mobs near them you have to kill first on this step:

Destroy the enemy's supplies 0/6 (Plane of Health)

However I have never seen any enemy's near the final step where it tells you to open the chest.

If this is something new then it possible needs to be bug reported.

I received the daily hotzone quest from Clayton Teek for this, when I went to start the HA, the NPC stated something like:
"Perhaps you should speak with Quellious in the Plane of Tranquility."

I completed the only quest Quellious offers (note, use invis vs. undead to avoid getting attacked by a lvl 106 an honored resident),and went back to this NPC . This time she said:
"Perhaps you should speak with Neelo Leafwind in the Plane of Health."

I then completed Seal of Approval from Neelo Leafwind, went back to the NPC, and she said:
"Perhaps you should speak with Kerath Punox in Sul Vius about a job."

At this point I'm just going to skip this HA and wait for a more straightforward daily quest.

If you get the 'destroy ballistas' task, I did NOT find them in the north east, but the north west - clustered around the zone in hut to Sul Vius.

Step 4 couldn't be completed. As soon as I finished step 3, Putrid Brute spawned on my group and auto agroed. He hit for max 55k, he rampaged, and he enraged. My group of lvl 101's couldn't tank it and we died. When we revisited the instance, there was no chest to be found. I ran around the entire zone using tab targeting, and also used "/target a chest" around the putrid brute and the zone in. The chest also did not show up on find. So I stayed up to 4am and completed it a second time.

I've heard of instances not spawning chests. You might bug this on the daybreak forums.

Did this tonight and it was bugged exactly like levitEQ's Apr 23,2017 post. I finished it by following their post. Had I not read the posts I would have dropped the task most likely. This is one of the best things about Zam, community help :)

The sequence of steps in this quest is sometimes bugged, but it's possible to complete it. Today our first combat step was to kill invaders (0/8). This step completed normally by killing puslings near the zone-in. The second step was to kill enemy invaders (0/4). We cleared our way out of the inner ring, then killed all of the "a virulent brute" with the aid of our whistles. This might be due to the fact that instances were bugged. After this mornings patch, this should be fixed.

This might be due to the fact that instances were bugged. After this mornings patch, this should be fixed.


Sadly it isn't :(

As of today (7/Jul) I got this step and no brutes updated the quest.

at first I thought it was bugged also, then i noticed on track mobs like ' a bubonian invader' that cleared the step, then went and killed the brutes with the pets from the whistle to clear the next step

This is still bugged as of May 2018. Happily, the posted approach still works to complete the quest.

FYI - I filed a ticket with DBG and was told:

"I've gone ahead and reported your concerns regarding this problem to our team.... This will need to be tested by our team, if it is not functioning as intended, then we hope to see it fixed soon. I don't have an ETA as to when..."

In the instance where you're tasked with

Rescue the injured Overseers (5)
Destroy the Invaders Weapons (4)

the NPC's are NOT single pullable some of the time. I got 2 sets on the injured overseers that would not single pull, I had to kite one of them on my bard.

Also, when you zone in you speak to Lashun and she gives you a 1.5 sec cast time healing potion that you use on the injured to complete the task... You cannot cast the spell on the NCP's unless the 2 (or 3) NPC's guarding it are dead.

Did this tonight and after I handed my whistle in to Lashun Novashine I got the objective update to loot the chest and no chest appeared. Tried logging in and out and zoning in and out to no avail.

Might be a bug maybe not... If anyone else has some insight or could let me know what I did wrong it would be appreciated... maybe even help someone else out if they do this.

Tried this again (the next night very same version of this expedition) I didn't delete my whistles given to me at the beginning of the adventure the previous night. So of the 10 charges on the whistle I had like 2 on each character... now i've got one brute left and no charges on my whistles... (3-boxing this)
