Xlixinar Arcut says 'You must first learn focus before being awarded the legionnaire scale helm. The Swifttails are the masters of focus and as such you will learn from the Grand Master of the Court. It has been so long, I do not know who is Grand Master now. Whoever it is, give him this note and follow his instruction. Once you have learned, return to us and the helm will be yours.

Grand Master Glox sits whispering incoherently for a long moment before even regarding the note you dropped in front of him. The Grand Master suddenly snatches up the note from Xlixinar, removes a small charcoal marker from a belt pouch, and scrawls some intructions upon it. He drops the note immediately after finishing and resumes his meditation without a word.

The note reads:

"Glox's Instructions

Atop the ancient tower of Kurn lives a mole. This mole has unwittingly taught the Swifttails much. It has taught us focus. Go into the tower, sit and meditate near his burrow, and settle yourself. When it peers out to look for food, use all of your pent up ferocity and kill the mole quickly. Upon its neck will be a collar. Return to me the collar and 2 star rubies and I will give you my reference for the Arcut."

I am a necro and got the collar while hunting in kurns, I just wonder if I can do the quest as well and get the helmet.
How much?
# Apr 17 2001 at 3:12 AM Rating: Default
How much could I get for this Collar? I was randomly wandering around, went up and camped this place with someone.. and we were very pissed at the cruddy loot... so then i went to sell it at a vendor.. and was offered 45pp for it.. hmmmm.. i guess i'll hold on to it.. suggestions? =)

Sssilly person. The collar is no drop, hence the klok won't buy it back, regardless of what he says he will offer. And it is not such cruddy loot if you are an iksar warrior. 8)

banded piece
# Mar 23 2001 at 4:07 PM Rating: Default
you dont have to give the banded piece with the note, you can give it later as well.
Something that is left out.
# Mar 21 2001 at 5:20 PM Rating: Default
You need a banded piece for each piece of Trooper scale you want, so if you get the note.. dont hand it in to the stupid scorp thinking RIGHT ON NEW HELM! cause he is goign to say, you need a banded piece for what you want.

sigh...

another 4 hours to do the whole thing over cause my luck sucks with this little mole.
OK here are the Straight details

main thing to know about this one is that this little mole has a despawn time, that is why the master says kill him fast with all your pent up feriocity (yea so just bust out your disipline: aggressive hahaha) camped him once and he despawned after about 3 or 4 seconds! didnt even get to hit him

this guy is pretty nasty for a little rodent, I was level 32 with over 1000 hp max and he took me down to 2 bars before i slayed the fool, just kill him fast and loot quick, he does not spawn on the hour always! he does have about an hour spawn time so just set aside some time to camp him, hits in the 60's! one of the easiest kills for the trooper scale, magic weapons only (he didnt get along with my runic carver very well *grin*) he will run so get ready to chase him, skeles are anoying but at the level you should be at to kill this mole the skeles shouldnt be a threat, though camp but the kill isnt too hard
bug?
# Feb 03 2001 at 9:20 AM Rating: Default
as already stated in other posts i too have had this guy dissapear right before he dies. i petitioned about it, but doubt that the gm will ever respond
Spawn time
# Jan 24 2001 at 3:24 PM Rating: Default
i camped him for about 4 hours till he showed up, got the collar and did the quest, i had no problems giving glox 2xstar ruby and the collar.

this is easiest part of trooper scale armour, i think you can do it on 25 or less.

2 star rubies
# Jan 26 2001 at 10:03 PM Rating: Decent
When the quest first started out it said you needed two star rubies, but actually it wouldn't reward you until you gave an opal, too.

This was fixed in December. Now it is working as stated. Two star rubies are the gems you turn in.
Frustrating
# Jan 15 2001 at 1:26 AM Rating: Excellent
I've seen the mole spawn 5 times and killed him once as a level 27 Warrior, but never died. Some tips:

1) Use local help.
Go to the pit in the Field of Bone, kill a Heartsting Scorpion, until you loot a Scorpion Telson with a Poison Bolt charge. Use this during the fight if you're not in your 30s yet and not with a group.

2) Take him alone.
Try to keep the room and hallway clear of skeletons. They're a pain when he runs away.

3) Hit him fast.
The best way is to face the spawn point with a finger on the F8 key and one on your range attack key. When he spawns, hit F8 and use an arrow immediately. If you don't get him angry quick, he'll despawn.

4) Kill him fast.
Of the 3 times I've got him before he despawned, twice he despawned as I was about to kill him. I don't know why exactly. Maybe he despawns a certain distance from his spawn point, but both times, he was running away from me. Someone to cast Root or Snare here helps.

I didn't notice the damage absorbing attribute others have, so it may have been removed. Otherwise, people beforehand were imagining it because the Target health wasn't updated quickly enough or I just didn't notice it.

Hope this helps!

Mole is hard!!!
# Dec 31 2000 at 1:25 PM Rating: Decent
Woot
I did the quest last night at lvl 18.
It can be done but it is very hard. The little critter wiped out my party three times before we could kill it.
Stats are:
12 ac
5 str 5 wis
3 sv magic
This is still the best nonplanar iksar warrior armor.
Btw: There seems to be a lvl cap on the mole's drop of collar. I grouped with a lvl 36 necro and we killed the mole twice easily but it didnt have the collar. Spawn time is approximatingly 1 hour

The Mole is Easy
# Dec 29 2000 at 10:02 AM Rating: Default
I am 23 iks warrior and my friend is 24 iks war and we took out the mole no problem. It was blue to me, I taunted him the moment I saw him and it aggroed on me. Then we went to work. Once we got the dmg shield down there were not that many Hitpoints on the thing so it went down fast.
RE: The Mole is Easy
# Feb 02 2001 at 4:23 PM Rating: Excellent
I tried to solo him at 28 (iksar warrior), he took 600 hp in half a minute, even though he was green to me, then I had to zone. But he can only be hit by magical weapons.. and I found it quite hard to hit him, and he hit me often and hard. The mole is very easy to kill as long as you have a caster with you, because he can root and nuke the mole, and it´ll be dead in seconds.
magic weapons

need magic weapons to kill this i think
beware the odd mole
# Dec 11 2000 at 3:28 PM Rating: Excellent
Damn that little bugger!

A) it's a boring camp. Occasionally a wandering skelly will wander by and wake you up with a failed blow to your head. Keep waiting. Most likely to spawn a few minutes before the top of the hour.

B) When he does spawn (at the dead end straight across from the hall) he has this annoying damage absorber. You’ll be flaying madly at him, but it just gets absorbed. It’s almost like the enchanter’s level 24 spell Rune II. It’ll eventually wear off and you’ll get some good cuts on him, then, without casting a spell, he will suddenly have the damage absorber again. Arrg! Very frustrating to solo. I’d advise bringing a nuker if possible. NOTE: YOU NEED A MAGICAL WEAPON TO DO DAMAGE, and even then your attacks will probably be absorbed. Also, while you’re doing no damage, he’s hitting for some surprising hits for a guy his size. If you get him down in hp (he doesn’t have a lot), he’ll run and attract a lot of skellies to aggro on you. Good luck.

Some other random info on this quest:

I think the quest was originally messed up, requiring an opal and a star ruby, but it’s been fixed. I turned in the two star rubies with the collar and got the referral note.

If you thought (hoped) that you’d be getting a great helmet for a quick kill and some pocket change, think again. Star Rubies are EXPENSIVE! A typical low charisma iksar warrior can be set back a whopping 83pp for each in Cabalis! Have that high charisma enchanter friend of yours buy them for you in FV. Too bad they fixed it. Opals are much cheaper (about 22pp).

If anyone cares, the stats on the tiny collar are: AC 1, +1 cold, magic, lore, no drop, small and med races only.

If you’re not sure where to find Xlixinar Arcut, his loc is approximately –1400, -1400 in The Overthere.

Overall, a relatively easy starter quest for our trooper armor. The xp for completing it was frosting on the cake. Enjoy!
2 Star Rubies are CORRECT!

Done last night... gems on note are correct
# Dec 02 2000 at 10:40 AM Rating: Default
I camped the little bugger for about 30 minutes last night when he popped. I had to chase him out the door and down the stairs before I finally managed to whack him once, then the fight was on. Of course, I managed to aggro a lesser ice and a greater scale on me and the mole was up against the wall so I couldn't turn and face the skeletons... the three of them took me down to one bulb of health before I could kill the mole. He had the collar.

I went back to glox and tried turning in just an opal, as others have suggested, but got the generic "i don't know what this is" response. So I fed him 2 star rubies and *voila* I got my letter! Apparently someone else had already turned in a collar.
Broken....
# Dec 01 2000 at 11:06 PM Rating: Default
As of December 1st this quest is still broken. I gave him 2 star rubies and the item and it failed. Then, i gave him the opal and ruby he asked for and it still failed. I handed in the coller both times. They messed it up.

I turned in the collar and the 2 star rubies and it said "Then you realize he said 1 opal and 1 ruby." I turned in another collar and 1 opal and 1 ruby. I got "Glox's Reference" and turned it in to get the helm, along with a banded helm, ofcourse. The only difference is this reference did not specify the equip you recieve. Like the boots said "Glosk's Reference - boots"

I turned in the tiny collar, an opal and a ruby to the monk GM, and it said it was incorrect, i needed an opan and a ruby with the collar...

Guide is reporting it, hope to get the helm...

You have to turn in 2 star rubies and the collar not an opal and a ruby P

I did this as well and also recieved nothing, Glox states that he now wants a necklace, opal and ruby when he talks to you

How do you get them to talk to you?
RE: Xlixinar Arcut
# Dec 06 2000 at 9:27 PM Rating: Default
I got close enough so that a 'hail' would make him respond. Be carefull, you have to get very close to the canyon edge.

Once in range, I asked "what about the legionnaire scale helm?" and he gave me the note.
An odd mole
# Nov 28 2000 at 7:41 AM Rating: Default
The mole spawns once every two hours on the dot, timed it three times myself. He spawns in what I call the "dining room" on the top floor of Kurn's. If you're an iksar warrior you probably know which room I'm talking about, if not, it's the highest room and has a broken table and chairs, and halls blocked off by boulders and rocks, except for the one hall which you enter in.

When you enter the room, the odd mole will spawn in the blocked hall straight across from you. He does NOT spawn to the left, on the mini ledge as I heard he did.

He conned high blue to a lvl 26, hit for 60s, but didn't have many HP. NOTE: He despawned on me the first time after about ten seconds. Thought he would run across the room so I tried my bow, but he just kept around that little area, and I couldn't use the ranged that close. So just whip out your axe/sword and go to work.

Pretty safe and boring camp if you ask me, he dropped the neckpeice "a small necklace" or some such, looks like leather, ac1 and sta1 or something. Sorry I was too tired when I logged off to write down the stats.

Haven't turned it in yet...are you sure the gems are incorrect? I'd hate to hand in the wrong ones.
RE: An odd mole
# Dec 05 2000 at 10:10 PM Rating: Default
Mole does appear every hour, possible sooner, on the Cazic-Thule server. I was run off by him, due to something that wasn't mentioned and is important- He is a magic little bugger, which I should have expected, I guess, and so was invulnerable to my weapons. Oh well. Guess it's time to break out the magic axe.

Incidently, yes, you can bow him
RE: An odd mole
# Nov 28 2000 at 8:10 AM Rating: Default
You must have missed a few spawns, because he actually spawns every 60 minutes. You definitely don't hand in 2 star rubies, it's a ruby and an opal. I'm still waiting to hear from the gm to see if I can get reimbursed for the 2 star rubies I lost due to the buggy quest note.

There's actually a little more to the quest than what's above. When you return those things to Glox, he gives you a reference. Give the reference and a banded helm to Xlixinar Arcut and you'll receive the helm.
RE: An odd mole
# Nov 28 2000 at 5:04 PM Rating: Default
I agree. Must have missed a few spawns. He spawns like the above post said once every hour on the dot. And yes the gems are worng. You do need a Ruby and Opal. One more side note. I killed him a total of 4 times. 1st 2 times his body disappeared after his death. 3rd time he didnt have the collar. Finally 4th time he dropped it. I petitioned the disappearing body as a bug of some kind but as per usual no help.

i killed him twice and got collars both times

What level is this little guy? I'd like to take him out.
RE: An odd mole
# Nov 30 2000 at 2:06 PM Rating: Default
He was blue to me at 26...a lvl 19 said he was yellow to him the time he saw him. Hit pretty hard for his level, for a little guy, hit around 60 a few times. He does run when below 1/4 hit points, so make sure you have a snare or something ready.
