You say, 'Oxyn sent me.'

Shezlie Furscale says 'It is good to see that more able bodies are passing through the doors of the Temple of Terror. We should be able to rebuild much faster now, once we are able to [collect some more bundles]. For those that are interested in helping, there is [payment] to be had.'

You say, 'Collect some more bundles?'

Shezlie Furscale says 'There are many bundles to be collected. There are only four that I require at this very instant. I need a bundle that contains Bargynn's Digger, Sythrax's building plans, a sapphire, and your banded helm. (...) Now, hurry and return these, or I'll be asking for someone to bring me your head.'

You say, 'Payment?'

Shezlie Furscale says 'Payment will be in the form of equipment. All funds are currently being spent on the rebuilding.'

Upon hand-in:

Shezlie Furscale says 'You have succeeded! Take this as payment and begin getting your next bundle. The more supplies we have the faster we can rebuild.'

i got both the building plans and digger last night....with only 2 deaths =) my 38war, a 40war, a 42war, a 42 monk, and a 46dru, just ran into the troll's tunnel, tried to harmony some stuff in his room....but that didnt work too well =/ i attacked gharg first to make sure id get all the agro...this way id die instead of anyone else. that worked pretty well haha. i lasted until most of em were dead but that jester got me with his 5th or 6th HT =/. then i logged on my shammy looted the plans, and ran to kurn's with the 40war. he escorted me down to the basement and then i camped out and switched to my druid, ported in, and the warrior said g'night and camped out. cleared the room twice and up popped bargynn. killed him easily, my druid is level 40....then tried to clear the room so my shammy could loot without dying...ran outta mana, sow wore off, and i barely made it to zone. switched back to shammy, looted the digger, and got killed =) but i figgure its worth it. nice helm, and that banded helm looks ridiculous on lizzies. well i hope this gives you twinkers some insight on how to get this quest done =) logging on now to buy the gem and get me helm woot

good luck to yas

Sapphire and Quest Trigger

Some people have theorized that the lore sapphire that drops in Kurn's Tower off of the thick boned skeletons is the one to use for this quest. It is NOT, and you lose all the other components. You need a normal sapphire which you can buy near the bank for about 109pp. If anyone knows what that sapphire is for, I'd be interested to know. Got a lore emerald from there as well.

To trigger the quest say, 'Oxyn sent me' to Shezlie. She's not far from the shammie guild in one of the broken down buildings on the second floor on the east shore. Then you say, 'I will collect more bundles' and she tells you everything she needs. I assume the same will work on her bro/hubbie next to her.

My strategy for this quest
# Nov 23 2001 at 1:05 AM Rating: Excellent
I am a 46th Iksar warrior and I usually take a lower lvl (than me) around to do this quest. The tactics I use can be used by a group of high 20's or so but I have done this quest about 8 or 9 times in total with just me and a shaman. About half the time with someone from my guild but mostly with a shaman of reasonable lvl who happens to be around and I am feeling bored or something.

1st part: Synthrax Building Plans
Other posts show the location of the tunnel underwater off the north shore to the east side at n2400 p450 or so. You have to swim out to the tunnel entrance and swim a ways underwater up the tunnel before coming out inside the tunnel to dry stone. It is not too far and you wont need to have water breathing on since we are all good swimmers and can make it with NO problem. This spot inside the tunnel but near the water is the spot I always use to kill everything in there. I have the shaman cast some buffs on me and regen if he is at that lvl, and med up for battle. I always pull everything back to this spot so we don't get adds. Important thing to know is that the Servants of Synthrax are NON-AGGRO until you start fighting and so just be sure to only pull 1 at a time. Even Garg Oberboard, his pet, the jester, and the other Synthrax Guardians are all NON-aggro. When we arrive in the tunnel there is often a servant standing right there. We just sit and meditate and prepare for battle as normal with it standing right next to us, only killing it when WE are ready. If you want you can roam around in there and get a look at it before you start fighting so you know what to expect. hehe even say hello to Gharg if you want.

It is true that there are roamers in the cave that will walk all the way out to my fighting spot where the tunnel goes under water; however you will need to go in deeper and pull out the rest 1 at a time after you take out the first 2 or 3 roamers. There are about 5 or 6 spawn spots in the first two rooms for the Servants of Synthrax and I have no problem pulling 1 at a time. You will need to be careful because the aggro radius after attacked is pretty large and if you try to pull at say lvl 25 for so, you will probably pull multiples. The third room is where Gharg is and also other Guardians of Synthrax which are higher lvl than the Servants and are always SK's I think

Keep in mind that the Servants can be 3 different classes. Could be more, but I have only met up with 3 different types in all my trips there: Shadow knight, Shaman, and warrior. They ALL are immune to non-magic wpns so be sure to fight with magic spells or magic wpns. I don't worry about my arrows when I pull them. They know that I am shooting them and then they chase me back to my fight spot even though I see that "A Servant of Synthrax is immune to dmg" message. Sometimes they HarmTouch me as I am running back and so I know it is a SK. If during the melee, it has a dmg shield on and casts at me with cold spells it is a shaman. If it just chases me back and fights and kicks it is a warrior. I tell the shaman partner with me to have cancel magic rdy since the dmg I take from the ones with a dmg shield hurt me the most. The others don't do much dmg and racial regen with regen spell combine to keep me healed up no problem.

It is true that occasionally the Servants of Synthrax may have the plans but of all the times I have been there only saw 1 plans drop from them. I usually have to clear the entire cave and pull Garg Oberboard at the end because he ALWAYS has the building plans. When pulling Gharg, I wait till the jester walks to the opposite side of that third room so that I don't pull the jester along with Gharg and his pet. One time I did by mistake and the jester started beating up on my partner while I was busy with Gharg and couldn't help taunt him off since I was busy trying to keep Gharg and Gharg's pet occupied. I now always have my partner whip out mace and shield and beat up on Gharg instead of casting during that final battle so that his pet wont aggro him and will stay on me instead. Gharg does start out with a HT for about 300 dmg but he has pretty wimpy AC and not too awful many HP's. I think he is a fair /con for his lvl.

As for loots, everybody in there drops the same stuff for their lvl meaning coins and occasional gems, words, runes, plain Iksar wpns and shields, stuff like that. NOBODY goes there for loot; it is way easier to just kill roaming stuff around Lake of Ill omen at the same lvls with considerable less risk to the folks who get exp from killing them.

2nd part: Bargynn's digger
Ok, in Kurns I always do the same thing. and, I have CONDUCTED guild raids here and know every spot there is and probably killed every spawn at least once except the jester which is continually camped. I go down to where the cook/thickbone/fingered skeleton spawns, which is to the left at that last turn in the basement where people camp them. Then I go straight past the cook and down the stables hall and straight up a small flight of stairs. At the top of the stairs we put on levitate, (you take about 200-250 dmg from the fall without it,) and then go straight forward (after looking to the left) down the hole in the floor to the caverns below. (n220, n100) As the higher lvl of the two of us I do a spinning dive, ( look down, run forward with left turn) to beat my partner to the bottom as he floats down slowly. That way I can clear the 2 spawns at the bottom of the drop before he even floats down. Or at least have em both half dead and full aggro on me. (I never go down the other way because the Burynai all swarm you there.)

This little room with the two spawns is one a 20 minute timer or so, so keep track of the time so you don't get adds that you were not expecting. The important thing to know is that this little room is a pretty nice pathing bug. One of the best pathing bugs I have ever found. Even better than the safe-not-so-safe room in the basement. And it is not considered a cheat by Verant because you are not safe from attack like if you try to kill fish from the shore or something like that in Lake of ill Omen. All the Burynai run from me after getting about 60-70% dmg and still run fast, but in this tiny room they run back and forth right in front of me and I don't have to chase them anywhere.

Bargynn's spawn is right next to a little watering hole at n100 p270. His PH is a Sapper and there are about 8 or 9 spawns in that room with usually about 3 or 4 being sappers and the rest being excavators or lesser icebones and lesser charbones. Bargynn's spawn rate is about 1 in 5 or so from all of the times I have pulled him. (Maybe 12 or so times camped) He always has the digger, a lore no-drop magic 1HS wpn 8/30 str+2 cha-5, that you can use if you want, looks like claws when equipped. He also always has the Bargynn's torch, lore, NOT no-drop, either melee, wis+2 int+2 fire+2 lightsource same as lightstone. You can just use that or just sell it to somebody else later on. He also drops misc coins and words/runes/gems and so on. What I do is pull either him or else about 5 others at a time and beat feat back to the little room. My partner and I then proceed to clean up on the Burynai in that room since they cant escape and run all over the darned caverns like they would do if we fought them anywhere else down there including the Bargynn spawn room. It is such a pain trying to chase em down when they swim away and run off in all directions. Then the ones that are SK run to a safe distance and start casting on us if we are not in that little room. We always get loaded down with coins and loot by the time we finish up with Bargynn and just about every time I think we always get at least 1 or 2 pieces of the magic Burynai hide armors. So it is a semi-profitable trip in addition to being a quest item trip.
Good luck and safe journeys.

Location of Temple
# Apr 16 2001 at 3:27 PM Rating: Default
Yeah, I am iksar, its located just off the beach of the field of bone...if you go to kurns tower, there is a path from the closest pit entrance that leads directly to the sea shore...when u get to the shore, turn right...the entrance to temple is in the water at approx -300, 2700. But if u take shore line almost till it ends you should see the spires of the temple in the water. It is NOT neccessary to go try to kill sythrak....he is very dangerous. Try to lure a guardian out, and a good lvl 30+ full grp helps. The guardians have the plans as well.

You can also get the plans off the servant of sythrax that wanders to the end of the hall all the way to the water sometimes. I camped him 7 times, having to zone him twice cause he's tough, and on the 5th kill, he dropped the plans. He conned blue to me and pulled to the beach without any friends along with him, and never seemed to Harm Touch me at all. Just make sure you wait for him to wander at least almost all the way to the end of the hall before pulling him and run/swim immediately to the shore to kite him. He resisted my best DD always, and often my best DoT would be resisted too. Malise helps some. I was able to do him solo, but with much effort. Good luck to you all.

Where is the troll for plans?
# Mar 15 2001 at 2:30 AM Rating: Default
Heya, ive noticed lots of posts about the troll and how to pull them out, and ive figured out he is in a tunnel some where in the FoB. But where exactly? does anyone have a loc of the tunnel area or what?
thanks!

The loc on the tunnel entry is actually underwater at the loc 2824, -462. This is quite close to the shore, and near the eastern end of the shoreline. There is a column sticking up out of the water that marks the entry to the tunnel that leads in to what seems to be a crypt. You might want to get enduring breath (or a similar spell) cast upon you before you try to enter. The underwater portion of the tunnel is fairly long.

The Troll Shadowknight, Gharg Oberbord, conned dubious (and, of course, green) to my 51 halfling druid which I thought was a little odd. I'm not used to seeing troll shadowknights who do not want to kill me on sight.

:)

He harm touched me for 311 hp when I rooted him and then he sent his pet after me. He went down quickly for me, (hardly surprising considering my level, of course) and he had less than 1384 hp, though I am not sure how much less than that he had. I used my 160 hp root spell followed by a pair of 612 hp fire-based DDs to drop him. All hit for full damage for me.

I received no faction hit for killing him.

His pet was about normal for a shadowknight pet given his apparent level.

He dropped nothing more than the plans when I killed him.

I also killed a skeletal jester in the same room because I was curious about what he would drop. He dropped nothing for me.

The skellies in the room were all indifferent to me, by the way, and none of them (other than his pet, of course) agroed on me when I attacked Gharg, not even the one next to him at what looked a bit like a throne.

A little about getting plans
# Jan 30 2001 at 2:12 AM Rating: Default
Ok i basically recommend getting a few groups for this. One group takes on the troll while others take on his friends, oh and have a tank with massive HP's pull.

I got lucky when i got it, i had a full group of 30ish people and a 52 druid, the druid tried harmony but it didn't work. However the skeles agroed on druid so she just took the hits and ended up gating out because htey have 100% fire resist. However my group landed a bunch of DoTs and a few DD's onto troll so after everyone died i was able to loot since agro was cleared. So basically i guess you can get it if you don't mind dying to do so, just drop a bunch of DoTs on him really fast and land a DD or two.

hope that helps
RE: A little about getting plans
# Feb 02 2001 at 5:45 PM Rating: Default
Actually, it's A LOT easier than that. I got the plans solo around level 30 (I'm a shaman, of course). Right when you come out of the water, there is a long tunnel before you get to the area crowded with skeletons. Wait in this hall. One of the skeleton takes a trip around the area and eventually stops right in front of the water, a good distance away from the other skeletons and the troll. I cast malise on him and swam back to the beach (if you fight in the tunnel, there is a good chance some other skeletons will come). On the beach I rooted him and nuked him until he died. It wasn't hard at all. And when I looted him, he had the plans. One major thing I noticed, was that the iksar skeletons AREN'T shadowknights (at least the ones I killed), and they more frequently drop the plans.
RE: A little about getting plans
# Mar 01 2001 at 12:15 AM Rating: Decent
Excellent advise. I used this technique and it worked great. A lot of resists the first time got me killed, second attempt the skeleton didn't have the plans and the third attempt was a success!
RE: A little about getting plans
# Feb 15 2001 at 4:53 AM Rating: Default
I tried to aggro the one skele, but still aggroed just about everything else in there...i got back up to the coastline (training like 3 skeles plus the troll) but once i got up top the stopped. a few minutes later i went and checked and they were hanging out in the water heh. made it fairly easy for a group to kill just the 4 of them.

Nice quest, but watch out for the troll

Just finished the scaled mystic helm quest, and that troll is a booger. I am 37, and everything inside the temple with the troll is blue, and they all harmtouch. Unless you are like 45+, I would suggest either a group, or a high level friend to assist with the troll. The rest was easy, but the troll was a booger. Just my 2 cp. BTW the Helm is VERY nice and looks really cool (the leather style look), I would highly reccomend this quest!
Wow nice, and WAY easier than Totemic helm!

This is about the most comparable piece to totemic. Like totemic it is 5 wis on the helm, but I'd guess this is FAR easier to get. I saw the sythrax plans on that troll a bunch before this quest was around and I don't know about Bargyn but I'd bet its way easier than that never spawn bear for the totemic helm.

I'm impressed also. I don't plan on wearing the rest of the Scaled Mystic armor because of the lack of wisdom and AC when compared to Enchanted Cabilis Scale, but this helm is great paired up with a full suit of ECS. GREAT AC and loads of wisdom. I was in a group just the other night and a barbarian shaman in full totemic asked what my wisdom was. I have 197 in mainly ECS and he has 130 in Totemic. This makes me feel a lot better about not being able to wear planar armor. =)

this might help you

ok the bargynn spawns deep in the basement of kurns tower, look at eqatlas map to see the excact location. you'll get the synthrax building plans from synthrax, he is a troll in field of bones, in the underwater cave. he got HT and about 4 guardians around him all with HT, he is expected to be around lvl 28 - 30
is there another way to get the plans...?

i mean it seems way to hard to get for a lower lvl such as myself to achieve, & is there an item to give to him to where he gives you the plans, or you just have to be a lvl 50+ to finish this quest?...lvl 39 Iks shaman

Why don't you get a group and pull the cave one at a time? Verant wants this to be a group oriented game.

Hehehe...we tried to pull them one at a time and half of em agroed through the walls and HT'd us...we managed to pull 2 seperate almost to cabilis and one had the plans =) The little minons of him drop them too..dont have to kill him =)

Oh yes, and they have an enormous aggro radius... or frenzy radius perhaps as they are typically indifferent to me in all my forms. The one at the end of the tunnel was easy, even without a pet, for a 32nd enchanter... but i tried pulling one from a room... one that i though was singled out... but the entire room, huge as it was, came after me... i was put down just from the 5 HTs that hit me almost all simultaneously. Expect the need for 3 or 4 tanks if these things aren't pitifully green to you.
RE: Wheres the building plans?

I attacked this troll in my mid 50's. I went into the tunnels and everything was green to me and indifferent. When I attacked, I was immediately harmtouched by everything in the tunnels. With a 100 magic resistance and full buffs (About 1400hp), it brought me down to about half life. My pet lasted about 10 seconds. I went running out of the tunnels. Forunately this trolly has SoW built-in and was able to keep up with me while all his minions fell too far behind. When I reached the surface I swam to land and finished him off with a root and 2 ice dd spells. Looted the troll and got the building plans. WooT
