You say, 'What Vambraces?'

Sirtha Scarscale says 'The hideous Golra are hardy creatures. The tales indicate their ferocity almost matches our own. I wish to gain a trophy of one of these beasts. Bring me the skin of one, two blue sapphires, and banded sleeves. Then I shall give you these fine vambraces.

Bad luck

I did this quest for 3 days...I got my druid to see what I'm up against then I got my sk and camped him on the iceberg...1st day killed about 50 Golra's and no skin droped so I went and I found out the Hulking Golras drop the skin...2nd day I started to hunt Hulking Golra's, killed about 30, no skin so I camped...3rd day I started to hunt Hulking Golras again killed about 20, was about to give up until my friend wanted to try it out, couple minutes later he yelled out that a skinned droped and he said he only killed one...I mad, sad and alittle confused after that but atleast I got my vams

I would like to say wow for a lvl 33 sk it was tough. A lvl 40 cleric and my self tried to take on the hulking golra and we were doing great until Halara showed up and whipped us so of course we brought in reinforcement a lvl 50 warr to help we got skin in 30 trys i was happy.

Just to confirm the Blue Sapphire issue, they are the normal Sapphires you buy next to the Block. With a 102 Cha they cost exactly 105p 4g 8s 5c.

And yes the golra are tough. The Hulking drop the skin, and not to often. At 40 they aren't too bad and can be solo'd. Bring a healer if you can.

As for Halara, stear clear of him unless you have a healer and are 40+. I paired up with a 40 druid friend and it was close. Keep your DoTs and Snares on, and use a Damage Shielf of possible.

these golra's are hardcore little buggers. hulking pack quite a punch for their level and Halara the named golra is simply untouchable for a low 30's sk if not grouped. i am a lvl 47 and these things still knock me a round a bit but not to difficult if you load them up with DoT's and fear kite.

note: at lvl 47, Halara is dark blue to me. he is extremely difficult to solo. do not touch him unless grouped with a healer (or a few...)
Damn hulking golras
# Feb 06 2002 at 3:07 PM Rating: Default
killed a ton of these buggers for about 3 days now, no skin. I am sure it's random and for some reason I seem to have the worst luck with random drops.

Be prepared for the possibility of a long camp.

they aren't that rough I can solo them relatively easily as a 35 iksar shaman.

1 scourge 3 envenomed breaths is enough to get them to the low amount of health when npcs start to run.

They have some magic resistance and are fairly cold resistant, can only get a few full damage winters roars to land on them. The hulkings also move faster then the normal ones by a bit so if you are kiting try and get sow from a higher level source than tboots.
Hulking Golra

I spent 2 hours killing regular Golras without finding a Skin. A kind Iksar SK who had already done the quest told me that he to trusted the interenet and wasted time killing regular Golras. Hulking Golras are the way to go. I personally killed 70ish golras without a skin. The 12th Hulking Golra gave me a skin.

Got the skin
# Nov 16 2001 at 11:26 PM Rating: Decent
Well i went to the iceberg tonight with a guildmate (lvl51 SK) to get the skin.
We killed all the golras we saw and hulking golras as well... which btw was awesome exp for me.
The skin droped in about 30minutes of a hulking golra, near the igloo camp where Halara is supposed to spawn.
Now i've been looking for those darn blue sapphires all night long: WHERE ARE THEY?

tks for your help and GL to you all.

I'm level 39 and I don't think I should be here until im level 45. The only way I can kill Hulking Golras is by Fear kiting, and its risky. What was Verant smoking when they made this quest? By the time you can get them there are better vambraces you can get much easier! I camped this spot for 8 hours and the skin never dropped, how bogus is that!

Did you ever think that maybe its not hulking golras your after but regular golras that drop the skins!! you'd think you would at least try it considering the hulks didnt drop it. plus it would match the lvl range better. you cant just assume its a creature you have to check into these things 8)

Sorry, but only Hulking Gulra's drop the skins.

I camped this before for many nights with no luck.

Killed Golra's, Hulks and Halara's. No Skins.

Hopefully it has been tuned to drop more often since people now seem to be getting them.

blue saphire

Is the Blue Saphire any different than a regular saphire? I've never heard of a blue saphire. I'm hoping a regular saphire will work.

I DO NOT speak from experience, but I am assuming that Verant is qualifying the blue sapphire (a regular sapphire) over the rarer and more expensive black sapphire. Both are mundane in the sense that they can be bought from merchants and are not LORE. I would hate to see someone turn over two BLACK sapphires to this clown and get nothing in return.
drop rate!
# Jul 27 2001 at 11:54 AM Rating: Default
Golra skins seem to be a very rare drop and the hulking golras seem a bit rough for the level this quest aims at, not to mention the rare spawn halara. I urge all fellow hatchlings of Cazic to come forth and post on the everquest message forums so that we may actually have a shot at wearing these vambraces.

Gooday!

I'm looking for items for my IKS SHD on Tarew Marr. I own computer shop so I get parts and such cheaper than you could retail. I often trade computer components for EQ items or sell parts at my cost + some EQ item

If you are interested let me know.

Thanks

How to get there
# Jun 13 2001 at 11:31 AM Rating: Default
After I jump off the boat from the Overthere at the Ogre Island, which direction do I swim in to get to the glacier ?
RE: How to get there
# Jul 23 2001 at 6:34 PM Rating: Decent
If you want to reduce your time spent swimming, wait until the boat leaves Ogre Island and begins traveling southwards again. I left the boat around neg 4000, pos 1000. Using SoW with Levitation was nice too.

South and east, the loc to the island is about neg 9000 by neg 5000

If you are a 40+ druid soloing Halara is np Halara spawns all 3 Hulking Golra spots. I was there getting exp and i got 5 pelts to drop (off Hulking Golras only) in the time it took me to go from 41 to 44 (bout 30 hours of actual play time)
Golra's
# May 28 2001 at 1:09 AM Rating: Default
I finally got the golra skin to drop after about 10 hours, the skin will only drop off the hulking golra's, if you see the named golra, dont even attempt to try to solo unless you are least 45th lvl, I fought it twice and it killed me the first time, the second time i barely killed it using my harm touch.

I am hunting Hulking Gorlas with my cleric (not so good xp but safe camp), and I got a skin in about 15 or 20 kills.

Halara's spawn place is in front of an igloo. Her PH is a hulking Gorla (always). It's the only igloo of the iceberg with a Hulking Gorla in front of it...

Halara is a tough beast, I cannot solo her with my cleric (45)...

fastest way to the glacier
# May 21 2001 at 4:38 PM Rating: Default
ok the fastest way here isnt from oasis its from the baot from BB to FV. if you stay on the boat when it stops at FV and get down to the bottom of the ramp to the deck, there on a clear day you will see the glacier. they will not stop and argo unless they see you in the water dont ask why. but they are easy kills at lvl 30 form my druid, im just wondering how much of this can i do with my druid for pieces that arnet no drop, cause this armor rocks
Worse than Hulking?
# May 21 2001 at 10:09 AM Rating: Default
After killing Hulking Golras for about an hour we found an interesting thing. A new spawn in place of the Hulking Golras called Hatara or something like that. It drops somme fur lined armor. It hits much harder than the Hulking but still conned blue to me at 36. If it spawns and you are having any trouble at all with the Hulking Golras definately LEAVE THE NAMED ONE ALONE.

The hardest part of this quest is getting to the glacier. My group consisted of 35th Shadow Knight, 35th Druid, and 40th Warrior. We used the raft from Oasis then jumped off once we zoned into Timorous Deep. The duid cast SoW and Levitate and then we just ran across the ocean to the location of the glacier. The Gorla's were blue and green to me and the Hulking Gorla's were yellow to me and blue to the higher level warrior. The skin dropped off of the third Hulking Gorla that we killed. Good luck and I hope you complete this quest!

I completed this quest on Friday. The glacier is located at -9000, -5000 and is a VERY LONG swim. Once there it is very safe to pull from but the Hulking Golra's HIT VERY HARD! so a healer would be a good idea! We where where there about 4 hours and got 2 skins to drop. The stats are nice and I LOOK great in a full suite of Dreadscale!

More Facts about Golra Glacier
# Jan 31 2001 at 6:02 AM Rating: Default
Golra Glacier (iceburg) is in Timorous Deep due south of the Elven outpost isle. The ship from Fiona Vie passes it. The location is about m5500, m9000. If you are a dark race it is a long run/swim southeast from Ogre/Spiroc Island. The regular golras are level 26-28 with the Hulking Golras at about 33+ (probably 35). There are very few ways to get on the iceburg since the parts near the edge of the water jut out at an odd angle. You must levitate over lip or swim around the island to a "ramp". You can also swim UNDER the island. There are also some dangerous cracks in the ice that will plunge you into the water (like pit traps)then you must swim to the beach. Also you large body races will slide on the ice near the waters edge. Good part is there are no wanders so you can sit and med just about anywhere. I am right now helping my friends camp the golras and we have been at it for about 8 hours. I am a 29 Enchanter and my friends are a 30 monk and of course a 29 iksar SK. Our group has died once at the hand of one of these brutes. They hit HARD. BE careful

Iceburg
# Jan 03 2001 at 6:23 AM Rating: Default
Well, I seem to be the only one that doesn't know how to get to the Iceburg. Since I'm Kos in FV, how am i supposed to take boat? Drixies there see through invis. Even when I get to Iceburg, how am I supposed to get off it? Thanx to any that can fill me in on this.
RE: Iceburg
# Jan 04 2001 at 6:21 PM Rating: Default
Well the way i did it you have to be at least 30 anyways. to do the quest so you have invs. go to the overthere hope on the boat< very easy just stay away from the docks cause of the Skells>. the Overthere boat you can just swim on too. once on the boat <going to need map for the next part> get off at you 1st and only stop. then Dive in and start swimming thats right swim swim swim. Bring LOTS of food i would say at the Least 4 stacks of bread and water. make to the island and hunt to you get it. Bring a friend cause the Gorla can be a bit ruff and were hittig me for sometime 75 Hp. now on how to get back .. im going to be a bit adventrous and try out the Firepot room < i know watch me get eatin by the Sea serpent/dragon over there too :o)

Hope this helps
