The Darkened Sea Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

About Heroic Adventures:

- They use the task system (steps are shown in task window, but steps are only revealed as you get to them).
- Scale in difficulty, loot quality, and mob levels (based on your group's highest level player - as low as 85).
- Tuned for 2-3 players and their mercenaries.
- Nameds can spawn as you progress through the task (you usually have to complete a few steps before this can happen).
- Collection items can drop from mobs in the instances, and ground spawns appear midway through tasks.
- Expected time of completion will vary by your group's makeup (anywhere from 30-90+ minutes).
- There is some variations/randomization in the task steps you'll be assigned as you progress through the task.

About Our Documentation of Heroic Adventures

- We only display task steps we know about.
--- If you encounter a step that isn't documented here, please post the details (or email us) and be sure to indicate which step number it was so that we can display it in its proper place.

This is a heroic adventure (1-6 players) that begins with Aqusos Ulto (click for map image) in Combine Dredge (underwater off the western coast).

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- None

Say "task" to request the mission and "ready" to zone in.

You say, 'Hail, Aqusos Ulto'

Aqusos Ulto says 'Air breather, I'll get right to it and not waste your time. I have a [task] for you. If you're as slow as most air breathers, then you'll simply accept my task and move on. You'll ask for more [information], though, if you have even a glimmer of intelligence.'

You say, 'What information?'

Aqusos Ulto says 'So that thin stuff you breathe does allow your brain to grow, at least somewhat. The regrua aren't native to Norrath. They are special servants of the gods of water and its avatar Coirnav. I have been watching the fighting, and a new one comes from the water every time one falls in combat. They will eventually overwhelm the Doomscale, though they are also very determined and resourceful themselves. I have a suspicion, but I would like you to confirm it. Explore the waters, probably not too far from here, and see if you can find the [origin].'

You say, 'What is their origin?'

Aqusos Ulto says 'As I said, I have a suspicion. But I need confirmation and for that I need your unbiased observation. If I provide any more information, it may influence the outcome. While I did say that you were intelligent to ask me for information, in this case I cannot comply. However, I suspect that I'll have more to say after you investigate. We can speak more then.'

You say, 'What task?'

Aqusos Ulto says 'Go and find the origin of the regrua in this area. When you're [ready] I'll send you to sleep until night falls so you're properly rested.'

You have been assigned the task 'Kedge Counterblow'.

Aqusos Ulto is concerned with the activity around the Combine Dredge. It sends you to confirm a suspicion it has.

You say, 'Ready!'

Aqusos Ulto says 'Sleep. When you awaken you'll be ready for investigation.'

NAMED MOBS

"High Guard Vnayyanye" has a chance to spawn after the third step is completed. She has three possible spawn points, all on the small hill adjacent to the docks from Brother Island (there are three tents here). Her PHs are "a restive guard" in this area.

Known loot from this named:

Level 105
Dread Vnayyanye's Censor
Vnayyanye's Transfixion

Level 100
???

Level 95
???

Search for the origin of the regrua 0/1 (Combine Dredge)

Task Window Says: Search for the origin of the attacking regrua. The origin is not likely very far from the giant squid, so it would be wise to restrict your search to the west side of the zone.

This is a location update around 1000, 2200, -65.

Defend yourself from the elementals 0/5 (Combine Dredge)

Kill five elementals (here, you'll get one spawn every 60 seconds). These mobs are mezzable.

Return to Aqusos Ulto and speak of the elementals 0/1 (Combine Dredge)

At this point in the task, collectibles spawn and a named (or its PH) has a chance to spawn.

Venture to the main platform 0/1 (Combine Dredge)

Task Window Says: ?

Location update around 700, -200, 50. See-invis mobs are about, so be careful.

Kill 10 Doomscale 0/10 (Combine Dredge)

Kill any 10 "Doomscale" mobs.

Set a water portal spell on the top floor and run 0/1 (Combine Dredge)

When planting "bombs", get away from them quickly (or evacuate), or you'll be killed in the blast.

Venture to the ore processing platform 0/1 (Combine Dredge)

Task Window Says: ?

Location update around 1400, -450, 40. No see invis mobs are reported in this area.

Kill 10 Doomscale 0/10 (Combine Dredge)

Kill 10 more "Doomscale" mobs.

Set a water portal spell on the top floor and run 0/1 (Combine Dredge)

Again, move away from where you set it.

Venture to the quarry 0/1 (Combine Dredge)

Task Window Says: ?

Location update around 1600, -1100, -30. There are many see-invis mobs in this area, so take care with travel.

Kill 10 beings at the mine 0/10 (Combine Dredge)

Anything counts for your 10 in the quarry area, except the doomscales. So clear the area around the platform when doing your 10.

Place the water portal spell underneath the mining device 0/1 (Combine Dredge)

As with previous "place" steps, once you place the spell, get away from it as it generates a damage aura that does around 10,000 dmg per second.

Venture to the housing platform 0/1 (Combine Dredge)

Task Window Says: ?

Location update around 1100, -800, 40. Be watchful of the wrathforged mobs here as they can see invis (also a larger than normal aggro range).

Kill 10 Doomscale of any type or Combine guards 0/10 (Combine Dredge)

Kill any 10 "Doomscale" or "praetor" mobs.

Set a water portal spell on the top floor and run 0/1 (Combine Dredge)

Move away once set!

Return to Aqusos Ulto and report your success 0/1 (Combine Dredge)

This did NOT update at the above loc. Head to platform where Arx Mentis zoneline is and just head up the ramp - you will get the update.

Collectibles spawn either on the Captain Mewes boat or on the broken boat at the north edge of the city. We are finding 4 every time looking in both places.

At 110, the elementals are a doddle, able to kill each before the next one popped.

The announcements for the spawning of the collectables and the named happen after the elemental fight, so if you're just looking for the Hunter named or the collectables you can decide now how far you want to take this HA. The collectables always spawn on Capt Mewes' ship or jetty, usually 2, so the other collectables will be mob drops. Should be 4 per HA but I have had 5.

Then it's 4x10 mob grinds.

Binding on jetty in Brother Island leaves an option to gate out after placing bombs but once you get the hang of this it's easy to invis after placing bombs, then leg it. Make sure you've cleared the escape route of any see-invisers, in the towers there are a couple of wrathforged near the ramps who can ruin your day, so include them in your list of 10 for that tower and you can stroll out at your leisure. Safe distance means right out of the building compound.

In the quarry, anything counts for your 10 except the doomscales, so clear the area around the platform when doing your 10. Combines can be picked off the corners easy enough. You may get one double.

The person in your group who hails the task giver after the water elemental step gets the bombs.
See invis (and other mobs of course) can be pulled from the bldgs and killed for credit even before the location update.

If you can't find all the collectibles on the main ship then look to the northeast for the crashed ship and you'll find more collectibles in there.

I want the 1hp for my new rogue so been starting this, killing the elementals and then hailing to see if I get named or PH. Have done this 12 times now and only 1 named, unfortunately that named only dropped the range item and a bracer.

You get 6 water elementals. I stayed around the area for a while after the 6th spawn and there was no further spawn. The one time the named spawned for me, I grabbed a bunch of the water bombs and had it on my rogue and warrior. However I had other things that came up, so dropped the mission before finishing. Came back later with 8 waterbombs still on my toons and went to kill the water elementals on a new mission. Except this time I got 2 water elementals per wave. Not sure if having the extra waterbombs in possession had anything to do with that.

Figured I would throw in that the mobs required for the updates in this HA do not summon nor are they run speed immune. This makes it a prime target for kiters and it gives the most currency of all the tds HAs to boot! Been soloing it on my necro the last couple days. Seem most of the mobs can be singled too for those that have problems pulling. The water eles auto agro but u hvae one minute between spawns to burn em down or get hem under control. I believe you now need 6 eles for that stage and 7 will spawn then they stop currently. Happy hunting : )

This is a "kill 45 mobs" mission. Planting the bombs is trivial.

The water elementals can be a PITA. They spawn in the water at the indicated location but you have the usual problems of fighting in water which I won't remind people of here since anyone who plays this game already knows them. My experience was they keep spawning up to 8. My group got into trouble and evac didn't help since the evac spot is underwater near Aqusos and the elementals will find u after the evac. You have to evac out of the instance. We reformed on the wharf (the zone-in spot from Brothers Island for the normal zone) and the elementals kept popping up onto the extended target window. Finally they started aggroing onto the wharf. Deaths, evacs, recovery, etc.

What I finally did was zoned back in with ONLY my druid. Fortunately, the elementals can be snared and they don't summon so I decided to quint-kite them. LOL. Other than the usual complications from "running" and casting underwater this went very smoothly. The other group members all got credit for the "kill 5 elementals" step when they zoned in. Frankly, for any boxer who has a toon capable of slaying 5 mobs at range, zoning in with just that toon to clear the elementals makes a lot of sense.

EIGHT elementals ultimately spawn and my mistake was only killing the required 5. We continued the mission and moved into the first building. I missed seeing a SI mob so we got big agro and had to evac. The remaining 3 elementals aggro'd! My mage ran off and used CoHeroes to clear agro and get us back to the dock. But I saw the elementals kept popping up on extended target so decided they all needed to die.

Didn't see the named. Drops were stingy. No collectibles dropped. 3 spawned on the ship. NOne at all at the end of the peninsulas, which are common spawn spots for multiple collectibles in the regular zone.

Moral of the story: water elementals: KILL 'EM ALL!

Call it a "kill 48 mobs" mission. Smiley: smile

Water Elementals seem to spawn one at a time again and now you only need decent DPS to get that part going. First there have been spawning only 5 and mezzing was possible. After some patches the water elementals spawned in pairs like mad. Now they spawn one after another but they don't stop to spawn. After killing all 5 it is wise to invis and leave that place.

But after 10+ of these quests I have to think about that perhaps the named is only a rumour? Has anybody seen that critter lately or is it time for a bug report? ;)

The quest/HA requires 5 elementals (not 4) (they will continue to spawn - leave the spot when you have your update(s).
The spot on the map marked "quarry" should be moved North to were the Quarry IS. The mobs at the presently marked location will not update the kill step for the Quarry, and even in the quarry, the mobs that have the geo/crystal look are the "beings" you want to kill for these updates.
On the little inset map where it is marked "regrua" is the spot for the first update and spawn of the water elementals (the Loc. given is correct).
One group member (task leader?) will get 4 bomb/water portal spells on his/her cursor.

This HA doesn't change targets each time. I assume it always gives the same reward of 387 Pieces of Eight each time, at level 105. Has done so the three times we've finished it.

Also, there's a half of a shipwreck in the northern part of the zone, where the collectibles can also spawn. Be careful looking inside: there's a shrouded scout mob likes to hide in there and jump on you.

I think this is bugged.....I understand that the water elementals spawn fast, but at first group couldnt control all the adds and so we wiped fast.....Rezzed back on land and had aggro from same elementals from ACROSS the zone....As soon as we entered the water again, the elementals were on us yet again and we died....

Bug or penalty...you decide. If you get to this point it's better just to drop it and get a new one, imo. You need to have a mezzer, or the DPS to do this step as described (average Paladin, Monk, Mage were enough). The elementals don't have a zone wide agro but at this point do have a very extended one, and since they now argo as a group, w/o a mezzer you're gonna have a hard to impossible time with them (of course w/ a mezzer you wouldn't have ended up here most likely anyway). The agro range is maybe 20 percent of the zone width at most (we lost agro along the long N Western strip in most spots and CR is doable there with caution).

Elementals:
- can be mezzed, spawn fast
- strangely you need only four for the update, but with enough firepower its a cakewalk

4-Points-Catch-Up-The-Light:
- "4 points catch up the light"-yellow message appears after the Elementals and after Hail/ "water elementals"-answer
- 2 collectibles at the back of the ship of Captain Mewes
- 1 collectible at the front of the ship of Captain Mewes
- 1 collectible at the dock of ship of Captain Mewes, left side
- the collectibles were not always up, once 3 on the ship where present, once only the single one at the dock
- if Vayanyye should show up, he was very shy.
- after 6 tries the Elemental spawned in pairs, so we had to deal with 12 mobs and that is a bit much for a mage Earth Pet...
- trying to mezz them wiped the whole group but you sporadically get aggro, you have to logout and in again
-> conclusion: that task is bugged like hell....

Main:
- two see-invis-mobs are present, one at the first floor, one at the second. If you are not carefully and pet-tank it away they will make a nice train. They are right at the stairway upwards.

Bombs:
- with run it is meant RUN or EXODUS! If not then you realize how good the bomb is. You will die! Wiped nearly the whole group the first time. And run out of the buildings AREA!

Ore Processing Platform:
- no seeinvis, pure zerging up and running away or Exodus. Think about that the whole area will be in the bomb-effect

Quarry:
- Seeinvis-Mobs, tend to add even to pets

Home:
- no problem, no seeinvis except the usual Wrathforged on the side. And it seems the aggro range is slightly extended. Got aggro on the side where I am used to fight in the non-instanced zone. Cultists seem also to take more care about you. So take care about them.

Vnayanyye:
- 3 restive guards spawns after you have done the elementals and hailed the quest-giver (hail + "water elementals")
- killed all three (cleaned the whole area) but no respawn in time (18th december 2014)
-> assuming one of the guards will change at a certain step into Vnayanyye

The second and fourth bomb placing step can be done invis provided you have the kill counts to get there. That was not a problem for me as I basically cleared the first tower which credited me for the first and second, and between that and some necessary kills in the second tower, I started the fourth and 8/10.

Mage CotH is probably the easiest way to clear the tower, although you have a generous amount of time before the effect begins.

The named will spawn right after the Elementals hail, so if it's not up, I suppose you could drop the task and try again, but if the loot table is as shown above - and those are the only items I've seen so far, I would not be inclined to worry too much about the named.

There are no yellow text messages when the Named or Collections spawn.
Collections spawned on the Ship and dock, all four.

•Vnayyanye is a melee fight. No spells hit me that I was aware of. She
spawned under a tent, south of the main platform, and up on the plateau.
