The Darkened Sea Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This solo task is the first in a series of two and begins with Orson Ragweed (click for map image) in the Caverns of Endless Song. He is located in the small area above water just south of the underwater zone-in tunnel.

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- None

Say "help" to request the task.

You say, 'Hail, Orson Ragweed'

Orson Ragweed says 'Oh the siren...she is so beautiful...I will not let anything bad happen to her...wait...you're not under her spell are you! Thank goodness, I didn't want to have to hurt you. The name's Orson. I was first mate of Fizzlethorpe's Folley, the finest pira...er...trading ship in the Buried Sea! At least it was until we were run [aground] on the coral forest.'

You say, 'Aground?'

Orson Ragweed says 'Aye, that she-beast's song got to the captain and just about the rest of the crew. Not me though! She'll never catch me in her net! I only wish that some of me mates would have fared so well. Not that I got along with many of them mind you. Most of them were unrefined as a pack of trolls. Er, meaning no offense depending on yer tastes, but they were just downright mean! I do wish dear [Charles] and [Edmund] hadn't been taken with them as well.'

You say, 'Charles and Edmund?'

Orson Ragweed says 'By Prexus' trident they were fine men. Treated me better than most during those long smugg...er...trading runs. I'd hate to leave this terrible place without them. Think you could see yer way to [help] this old gnome save a couple of his pals?'

You say, 'I'll help'

Orson Ragweed says 'That'd be swell of ya for sure! I might have something to tell ya worth knowin' if yer able to get them free. I've been keeping an eye on things from the shadows here, and I've noticed that a good blow to the head sometimes breaks the siren's hold on my mates for a time. If you can give Charles and Edward a good smack you might be able to show them reason. Here, take one of these doubloons. Show it to them after you've smacked them once or twice. Nothing like cold coin to make a pir...trader keep his head straight.'

You have been assigned the task 'A Friend in Need'.

Orson Ragweed would like you to free his mates, Charles and Edmund, from the siren's song in the Endless Caverns.

Orson believes a good blow to the head, coupled with the sight of cold hard coin, will break the spell long enough for them to escape.

Bring Charles Hogstottler to his senses 0/1 (Caverns of Endless Song)

Bring Edmund Wigfried to his senses 0/1 (Caverns of Endless Song)

DPS these mobs to 20% health (they are of regular difficulty for the zone, except some crowd control immunities), at which point they go non-aggro. Once non-aggro, hand them "Orson's Doubloon".

Charles Hogstottler stops attacking suddenly and begins to stutter...'Where am I....?'

Charles Hogstottler mumbles something under his breath. He seems very groggy.

Charles Hogstottler blinks at the coin in your hand as his eyes gradually come back into focus. 'By the gods, thank you! I've been trapped here for days. The things the siren's made us do...I can't repeat them in polite company. How did you find me? That coin, its one of the doubloons of the lost Combine Fortune. We sto....found it on our last rai...trip to Kunark. Orson? That little gnome managed to survive? Well give him my best, but I'm not staying in this accursed place a second longer!'

Edmund Wigfreid's features stiffen as he grabs the coin from you greedily before quickly sinking his teeth into it. 'Aye that's good gold there. How'd you come by one of these coins if you don't mind me askin'? Orson? He survived the crash then? And he sent you after me? Well, I always did like that little fellow, even if he was a little odd at times. I always felt bad that the captain was so harsh with him. It's probably better for everyone if he doesn't know, but I can't lie to him after he's convinced you to save me. Tell Orson the captain's still alive and that he's got Orson's chronometer. He'll be furious, but don't let him talk you into doin' anything foolish. As for me, I'll be finding the first thing that floats and getting as far from here as possible. Fare thee well!'

Give Orson back his doubloon 0/1 (Caverns of Endless Song)

Orson Ragweed says 'You found them both and freed them? But where are they? What!? After all that they didn't even come to say thank you? Just like a pir...merchant to not have any loyalty. Ah well, at least I'm free of that awful captain. WHAT?!?! He's still alive and he's got my chronometer? Well that I just can't abide _____. We have to free [Julia] from his entranced clutches.'

Absolutely. No group needed, just me (105 Chanter) and pet (which was really there more for moral support) solo'ed it very easily, with Healer Merc.

Charles was mezzable, and I had two adds that were mezzable.

Edmund was not mezzable, and I had one add that was mezzable.

Debuffed and nuked them down. Dotted and burned on Edmund to kill him faster, but burn wasn't needed.

Did it all in less than 5 minutes, took longer to write this reply.

It looks like Charles and Edmund might only be up in the daytime hours. Not 100% certain of this, but I waited around for 20+ minutes for them and no sign of them, then they both popped at once around 7 AM game time.

Just did them. Another group was ahead of us, finished about 10pm, they repopped maybe 20 minutes later. (did not really pay attentention to the time lapse, but it was definitely still night.)
