The Darkened Sea Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This solo task is the second in a series of three. It begins with Jessup Stormwind (click for map image) in Tempest Temple. He is located at -340, -280, -156 (on the elevated island in the southeastern part of the zone).

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Completion of "Coral Crushers"

Say "hand" to request the task.

At the end of the previous task, you saw:

Jessup Stormwind smirks as you recount the tale of goblin genocide and the state of the reef. 'Such is the justice of nature _____. Pray that you never fall victim to her ire. Though it be very odd that the green coral has not seen the same damage as the other species. I can only conclude that the goblins and the nagas have some reason for not trampling it. From the traces of magic in the coral you felt it seems likely that the hags are empowering them somehow. Though I am usually grateful for any creature that assists with the cultivation of the wild, I have a [bad feeling] about this.

You say, 'A bad feeling?'

Jessup Stormwind says 'The naga are clearly up to something nefarious with their magically infused coral. I can't say definitively, but I suspect it may have something to do with the rather large ocean serpents that have been wandering through the shallows lately. From prior experience I can tell you that they are decidedly larger than they ought normally to be. Perhaps the nagas are feeding them the magically infused coral. That would be odd, as the serpents normally subsist on a diet of fish and small crustaceans. Which reminds me, those crabs down below are a bit massive too aren't they? Never mind that for now, back to the matter at [hand].'

You say, 'What's at hand?'

Jessup Stormwind says 'Even if the nagas' motivations are altruistic, the presence of so much coral of a single species is not good for the ecology of the reef. I'm loathe to say it, but the best course of action seems to be for you to crush some of that coral. I doubt that will be enough to put an end to it though. You'll also need to thin the ranks of those nagas significantly. If you could remove them from the situation my instincts tell me that the goblins would break ranks and stop disrupting the reef. Be careful though, if any of them are using that coral for nefarious purposes you could be in for a rude awakening.'

You have been assigned the task 'So Many Serpents'.

Jessup Stormwind wants your help destroying some of the overabundant green coral in the shallows around the Tempest Temple. As the nagas are the source of the real problem, he also wants you to thin out their ranks and keep an eye out for anything that might provide some information about their larger plan.

Destroy green coral plants. You'll likely attract nearby serpents when you do, so be careful.

Crush green coral plants and kill small serpents 0/5 (Tempest Temple)

Slay several sea nagas 0/10 (Tempest Temple)

Collect infused coral extracts from the nagas 0/3 (Tempest Temple)

Head back to the western part of the zone. Note that sea nagas are stunnable and rootable/snareable, but immune to mez.

When you 'kill' a green coral, "a small serpent" spawns at its location. This mob has to be killed for updates. It has less hitpoints than the average and is mezzable, stunnable, rootable, and snareable. It also flees at low health.

a green coral plant crumbles beneath your attack, as a small sea serpent emerges from the nearby water to attack!
a small serpent weaves forward with lightning speed.

NOTE: "Infused Coral Extract" is the item you're looking for. This drops from the sea nagas, but may only have a chance to drop if everyone in your group is on the same task and step. If this is the case, you can get around this issue by having anyone who does NOT have this task disband from the group before a mob dies. The item 'seed' check is at the time of death.

Bring the infused coral extracts to Jessup Stormwind 0/3 (Tempest Temple)

Jessup Stormwind carefully peers through the green liquid as he taps lightly on the side of the glass vial. 'A potent growth enchantment has been cast on this coral for certain, _____. They seem to have extracted all the nutrients of the coral into this liquid.' He pauses from his study of the vial to look at you before continuing, 'You say the serpents came to aid the nagas when you attacked them? This must be the reason for this new 'alliance' of sorts. This can't be the end game though. The serpents, though larger still do not pose a significant threat to the rest of the islands' inhabitants. Unless of course there's some kind of even bigger [monstrosity] that they've been feeding?'

Group update! Huzzah!

If you're lazy and have lots of time you can camp the coral plants. Not a fast respawn, though.

One way to find them if you're with a group is to invis and levitate, run up a hill so you get some altitude, then run out over the Western ocean. It's pretty easy to see the green coral on the small islands. I found one of the very far western edge that only had one goblin on it. If I kept the area cleared, I could harvest there.

I think perhaps the "NOTE:" towards the end of this write up is not true or is now irrelevant. Tonight I had two characters with this task and one without this task at first. The Infused Coral Extract dropped while the third character did not have this task.

Also, just to note, it is quite nice that everyone in the group gets credit for the "Crush" step since it only takes one swing to kill the coral.

Just be careful, these despawn within 5 seconds or so if not agro'd or you lose agro (by feigning death for example)
