The Darkened Sea Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This shared task (1-6 players) begins with Quigley Barnables (click for map image) in the tower on Brother Island.

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Completion of "A Rising Storm" (Tempest Temple)
- Completion of "Gathering Clouds" (Tempest Temple)
- Completion of "Clearer Skies" (Tempest Temple)
- Completion of "The Edge of Balance" (Katta Castrum: Deluge)
- Completion of "The Abscent Scholar" (Katta Castrum: Deluge)
- Completion of "Just Recompense" (Brother Island)

Pre-Requisites for Participating:
- None

Say "sleep" to request the task and "bed" to zone into the instanced zone.

At the end of the previous task, you saw:

Quigley Barnables crosses his arms and furrows his brow. 'It's a good start, but a day's worth of deliveries can't repay a sack of gold! You're going to be here a long time if you think menial labor is going to return Firiona and her companions to my good graces!' Quigley laughs. 'You better get some [sleep]; you're going to have a long day ahead of you!'

You say, 'Hail, Quigley Barnables'

Quigley Barnables says 'Why don't you go to [sleep] already?!'

You say, 'Sleep? Me?'

Quigley Barnables says 'Yes, you should lie down. Starting tomorrow, I'll turn your sweat into gold, no matter what it takes! Get to [bed]!'

You have been assigned the task 'The Cover of Night'.

Dagda wants to use the cover of night to escape the island. If there is little trouble with sirens, this will be an easy escape.

You say, 'Bed, yes...'

Quigley Barnables says 'Wake up ready to work!'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...

Speak with Dagda about getting off the island 0/2 (Brother Island)

Inside the instance, hail Dagda until the task updates.

Dagda Icefury laughs. 'Do you see blood on my sword? I didn't kill them! Not that I didn't want to, but the sirens got to them first.' Dagda holds out her thumb and forefinger. 'This close to battle for the first time in a while, and someone steals my kills!'

Dagda Icefury points down the beach. 'Have you spoken to Dabner and Sedgethwait? We need to... ' Dagda's voice is drowned out by a song flowing from the sea. She shouts to be heard as sirens creep up the beach. 'Salt and blood go well together. Finally my sword will be sated!'

At this time, 3x "a siren seeker" spawn and wander up to Dagda Icefury's location. They do not see invis.

Kill the sirens 0/3 (Brother Island)

These are splittable, mezzable, and stunnable. They are Enchanter mobs and of average difficulty for Brother Island (hit for a max ~13,000). Upon the last death, you see:

The sirens' song grows louder.

Speak with Dagda 0/2 (Brother Island)

Hail her until the task updates.

Dagda Icefury flings the blood off her sword with a snap of her wrist. 'You never forget the moves; you only lose the speed. But as long as these stay strong --' Dagda points to her head and then her heart -- 'this will remain strong.' Dagda raises her sword.

Dagda Icefury says 'We must warn Sedgethwait, _____. He's our passage off this prison, and I know his men were never ones to resist the charms of beautiful women. Let's find him before we have to crew the Swift Fin ourselves!'

Head to Captain Sedgethwait 0/1 (Brother Island)

Location update - Captain Sedgethwait is found in the same place as in the non-instanced zone (the inlet on the east-central coast of the island). He is under some duress.

Kill the sirens attacking Captain Dedgethwait 0/5 (Brother Island)

Kill 3x "a siren seeker" (as before) and 2x "a siren snatcher". These are all, again, straightforward and fairly simple to split. The snatchers hit a bit harder (~16,000) and seem to be Warrior class mobs.

Speak with Captain Sedgethwait 0/1 (Brother Island)

You say, 'Hail, Captain Sedgethwait'

Captain Sedgethwait says 'Half my crew... on the seas for months without women... they never stood a chance...' Sedgethwait stuffs the feathers more tightly in his ears. 'I saw a group of sirens heading for the dome!'

Head to the main building 0/1 (Brother Island)

Location update - the tower in the southern part of the zone, where you'll find another problem.

Defeat the sirens attacking Quigley and Saldar 0/10 (Brother Island)

Kill 4x "a siren snatcher" (as before) and 6x "a siren slasher" (hit for a max ~12,000; AE rampage; lots of hitpoints; mezzable; immune to stuns).

Speak with Quigley 0/5 (Brother Island)

Hail him until the task updates.

TASK LOCKS HERE

Quigley Barnables glares at Dagda. 'Too many brothers have already been carried off. They took Jameswell and Sprudd. The sirens were heading to the eastern beach!'

Dagda Icefury shouts 'And what of Dabner?'

Quigley Barnables shouts 'The sirens can have him! What did he do to pay back our gold? Eat our food? Read our books? He was taken with the others, and good riddance!'

Dagda Icefury shouts 'If a siren could even stomach you, I'd feed you to them myself!' Dagda slashes at the nearby vegetation. 'Dabner will never be able to resist a siren's song! I've seen how easily he becomes attached. I always thought he should break his obsession, but I didn't want it to happen this way!'

Dagda Icefury says 'To the beach! We cannot leave our brothers to this fate!'

Rescue Brother Sprudd from the sirens 0/4 (Brother Island)

Head due east to the coast, and kill 3x "a siren snatcher" 1x "a siren slasher" (as before).

Brother Sprudd shouts 'No, my pretty ladies!'

Save Jameswell from the sirens 0/5 (Brother Island)

Just next to the area is Jameswell Dagmire. Kill 3x "a siren snatcher" 2x "a siren slasher" (as before).

Jameswell Dagmire runs toward Dagda, eyes wide and unseeing. 'My love, my beauty, you are the siren that has captured my heart! There is no other that can compare with you, Dagda!'

Speak with Jameswell 0/3 (Brother Island)

Hail him until the task updates.

Jameswell Dagmire staggers around, trying to shake the fog from his head. 'Are you... real? Or just another siren?' He reaches out his hand, trying to grab Dagda.

Dagda Icefury aims her sword at Jameswell's good arm. 'Easy there... you don't want to lose that one too!'

Quigley Barnables points beyond the shore. 'Look, out in the water: It's the barbarian's toy, Dabner!'

A drowning Dabner Drednever flounders about offshore.

Wait for Dagda to reach Dabner 0/1 (Brother Island)

Dagda Icefury cups her hands to her mouth. 'Dabner, it's Dagda! Swim back! I'm not a siren!'

Dabner Drednever's voice replies faintly, sounding hollow, wounded, and exhausted. 'I must follow the beauty. So much beauty out there, everywhere, all over Norrath... beauty I can hold... beauty less distant... beauty less cold...' Scaly hands rise out of the sea and pull Dabner into the depths.

Dagda Icefury rushes into the waves, not bothering to remove her armor. 'Dabner!'

Dagda Icefury shouts back to the shore, 'I'm going to find him!' Dagda disappears into the sea.

Both of them disappear into the sea...

Speak with Quigley 0/5 (Brother Island)

Hail him until the task completes. A chest also spawns at this time. The task is repeatable with a 6-hour lockout timer from the time of request.

Quigley Barnables groans. 'Don't be stupid. It would be suicide to follow her in the dark underwater! You'd never find the cavern entrance!'

Jameswell Dagmire shouts 'I'll go! When daylight comes I'll follow Dagda into the deepest darkness of the sea!'

Quigley Barnables shouts 'You're not going anywhere! Look at yourself all wide-eyed and panting! You're not fit to be anywhere near women!'

Quigley Barnables wipes his brow and looks at you. 'This could be the chance for you and Firiona's companions to redeem themselves. I lost many brothers tonight, and many more have already been taken. If you can rescue them, the debt is forgiven. I've already sent Horace the Resolved to the caverns, but as of yet I've heard nothing from him. Perhaps you won't fail.

Quigley Barnables says 'At first light I will send Brother Dilgen and Brother Visius to the caverns. Meet them there, and together bring back my brothers!' Quigley blows his nose on his kerchief. 'If you fail, I can always see how much the Swift Fin can fetch at the Barren Coast.'

This mission is easy enough since most of the sirens can be split out as singles, the main exception was the first fight with Dagda, when all three refused to be split. I came back later and the section had reset, so when I hailed Dagda again, I was able to split off the tail ender as the sirens walked up from the coast.
Apart from that, fights were a slog since they have a fair few HP but fortunately they don't dish out too much damage themselves.

I don't see why Daybreak still keep the higher zones progression locked, they ought to be grateful that anyone is bothering to come to these zones still.

When you come to a camp with Sirens (especially the very first camp) stand outside the camp and pull them to you. Don't stand at the quest NPC or you'll be quickly overtaken and killed. Find a hill and pull to it.

I used the Druid spell Nature's Serenity to split them with no problem (except on the very first group).

All the Sirens are mezzable, but there should be no need if split correctly. In the camps with a large number of sirens, they stand in groups (of 5), so you need only worry about one group at a time.

Most all the sirens have a LOT of hit points. The fights can be long.

There is no loot (none) except the chest at the end, and the experience isn't that great, even with Lesson running.

For the Foragers out there, the forages here suck too. I got 43 Berries, 22 Mushrooms, and 12 Rabbit Meat. That's it.

Surprisingly easy mission. I boxed it in just over an hour. I'm sure a "real" group of players could pare that down.

There is NO time pressure other than the 6-hour limit. Sirens spawn at certain steps and fight the "good guys" but they don't despawn and the fights are ridiculously slow-paced and neither side takes any damage. You're not protecting or accompanying NPCs here so you can set up at a leisurely pace and fight the same way.

The sirens don't see thru invis, don't summon, don't seem to cast anything of consequence, have a very small agro radius and they can be snared and rooted and all but a couple can be calmed with druid Nature's Serenity (101). Higher calm spell might be able to get them all. Doesn't matter all that much. Most of them they can be single-pulled with no pacification and in cases where two are likely to come the usual splitting tricks work fine. (I used snare with CoHero.) They are mezzable but my 101 enchanter's aoe mez didn't always land on a multiple pull (probably due to level issues) so I stopped grabbing more than 1 or 2 at one time.

Interesting that pacification works since the spawns are SUPPOSED to be engaged in combat with the "good" NPCs so calm spells shouldn't work.

NONE of the sirens are enchanters so no need to worry about those annoying mob tricks like mezzing the tank or stripping away all your buffs.

This is really the ultimate boxer's instance/mission. No mobs other than the "good guy" NPCs and the "bad girl" sirens spawn so no worries about adds. With 6 hours of time to complete, it's easy peasy for any appropriate level group of toons. Plus it gets you to the next locked zone in The Darkened Sea expansion!

The hate mask seems to be ultra rare. Or at least for me. 14th run and no mask yet.

The 4 near brother spudd don't assist each other, no need to try and single pull.

As well as the ones near dagmire.
