NOTE: A patch on April 22, 2015, added a work-around to obtain bottleneck items from Phinigel Autropos (Kedge Keep), Gorenaire (Dreadlands), and Talendor (Skyfire Mountains), including the Torn Books required in the "Fiery Avenger" side quest.

- In Kedge Keep, a harbinger of the seas can help adventurers get their epic 1.0 pieces that would normally drop from Phinigel Autropos.
- In Dreadlands, a harbinger of frost can help adventurers get their epic 1.0 pieces that would normally drop from Gorenaire.
- In Skyfire Mountains, a harbinger of flame can help adventurers get their epic 1.0 pieces that would normally drop from Talendor.

Irak Altil

Irak Altil is an indifferent skeleton who wanders the Plane of Fear. He has an emote he gives off occasionally.

Irak Altil moans and continues to shamble across the barren landscape, oblivious to the monstrosities surrounding it. It mumbles to itself softly.

You say, 'Hail, Irak Altil'

Irak Altil turns its head upon its dried, cracked spine to look at you with a rictus grin. After staring through you it continues to walk on.

You say, 'What are you mumbling about?'

Irak Altil turns its rotted eyesockets towards you. 'Fallen light, upon this ground I fell. Left to rot, cast out. My holy arms stripped and my soul cast out of the halls. Twisted, failed, disgraced.'

You say, 'Why are you disgraced?'

Irak Altil says 'Disgrace upon my soul for failing in my duties. Disgrace of my brethren.'

You say, 'What duties?'

Irak Altil breathes his words from his skeletal mouth as if wind through a valley. 'Sword, shield, breastplate. Twisted to Innoruuks foul will. Must be retrieved and cleansed else my soul is to wander for all time.'

You say, 'What sword?'

Irak Altil says 'Hands of a twisted brother no longer living.'

You say, 'What shield?'

Irak Altil says 'Earthly children of the god of hate. Keeping stand over his dark brothers and sisters.'

You say, 'What breastplate?'

Irak Altil lets loose an unearthly howl as it gleams with sickly light. 'Upon she who lured me from my post. In that place where hatred festers. Painful corruption.'

You say, 'How can they be cleansed?'

Irak Altil says 'The sword must be dipped in water pure. Light of clean spirit to cleanse the shield. A gem of clarity unlike any other for the breastplate. All must be cleansed and returned to the temple for my soul to be freed. Only the temple can cleanse, only they can touch the artifacts. Take the sets of two to the temple. When they are all three cleansed separately take them to him who will grant me atonement.'

Reklon Gnallen

Your clue is the key word "atonement." Find Reklon Gnallen in the Temple of Quellious in Erudin.

You say, 'Hail, Reklon Gnallen'

Reklon Gnallen says 'Hail to you friend. Seek you knowledge or atonement in this temple of peace?'

You say, 'I seek atonement'

Reklon Gnallen says 'Yes. Many are those who enter these halls seeking the forgiveness, the atonement of a god. By turning their spirit against whatever wrong they have committed they may be able to receive redemption in the eyes of their diety. Many seek such a thing, but few truly have the strength of spirit to attain it.'

You say, 'What temple of peace?'

Reklon Gnallen says 'Dedicated to the god of peace, Quellious, is this temple. It is here that her clerics and paladins pray and receive inspiration.'

You say, 'What paladins?'

Reklon Gnallen says 'As the clerics are the warm hand of healing, the paladins are the stalwart shield of protection, and in times of grave need the sharp sword of justice. To our post must we always remain vigilant else dishonor might befall us.'

You say, 'I wish to remain vigilant.'

Reklon Gnallen says 'To a paladin the upholding of his duty, or honor to his temple is foremost. To fail in his duty to stand at his assigned post in time of need is a great disgrace. Few are the paladins who have done so, and their spirits have been outcast from the god of peace.'

You say, 'What outcast?'

Reklon Gnallen says 'Harsh though it seems, a true paladin must always remain vigilant and dedicated to his cause. If he does not then he might find himself fallen from grace.'

You say, 'Who has fallen from grace?'

Reklon Gnallen says 'There are a few who have done so. Only a few that come to mind. Such stories are useful to remember as reminders of our beliefs.'

You say, 'What stories?'

Reklon Gnallen says 'One is the story of the paladin who fell due to his weakness in the duty of his guard post.'

No prompts here seem to lead to further text.

Intermediate dialogue needed.

You say, 'what peasant woman?'

Reklon Gnallen says 'Many hundreds of years ago did this story begin. There was a paladin, whose name is lost to all but our oldest leaders, who was among the greatest examples of honor. It was his post to guard the chambers to our most important halls. His fall was a creature in the guise of a poor peasant woman.'

No other prompts seemed to move this along.

Tainted and Gleaming Items

Remember, Irak Altil said, "Only the temple can cleanse, only they can touch the artifacts. Take the sets of two to the temple. When they are all three cleansed separately take them to he who will grant me atonement."

Irak Altil failed his duty as a guard for the Paladins of Quellious and was cast out from his Temple. To release him from exile, you need to obtain, purify and return a tainted darksteel sword, shield and breastplate.

What Irak means is that only the Temple of Quellious in Erudin, to which he once belonged, can cleanse the artifacts. (Despite this, one of the artifacts is cleansed by Tunare's temple in Felwithe.) The sets of 2 that he speaks of are the set of the sword and pure water, and the set of the breastplate and pure crystal. The third "set" is the shield and the spirit of Elia the Pure.

The Breastplate

Tainted Darksteel Breastplate

Remember, Irak Altil said, "Upon she who lured me from my post. In that place where hatred festers. Painful corruption.' ... 'A gem of clarity unlike any other for the breastplate.'"

The Tainted Darksteel Breastplate drops from the Thought Destroyer in the Plane of Hate. It identifies as "glowing sickly green."

Pure Crystal

The "gem of clarity" is called a Pure Crystal, and is obtained via a sub-quest in Kaladim. In the mines (take a right as you go in, across a bridge), find Jark:

You say, 'Hail, Jark'

He doesn't respond to hails. He does have two emotes, however.

Jark strikes the wall with his pick. A dull clang sounds throughout the cave. 'Arrr. Nothin' here either.'

...and...

Jark strikes the wall with his pick. A clacking sound echoes through the cave. 'Har har. There's something all right.'

You say, 'Did you find something?'

Jark says 'Huh? Oh, I struck me some silver. Ain't gonna make me rich but it'll sure pay for me minin' costs. Speakin of, that wife o' mine was supposed ta bring me food already. Hey, you, wanna go get me my dinner? I ain't got nothing ta pay ya with but I sure would appreciate it.'

You say, 'I will get your dinner'

Jark says 'Har, I know you were a good sort. Nella has it. She's out there somewhere in the lower areas. She likes to visit the temple, so maybe she's there. Just tell 'er Jark sent ya and she'll prolly have everythin' ready fer me.'

Nella Stonebraids may be found in the temple area, by the small pool of water across from the door to the cleric guild, at +675, +115. She is spawned by talking to Jark.

You say, 'Hail, Nella Stonebraids'

She doesn't respond to hails.

You say, 'Do you have Jark's dinner?'

Nella Stonebraids says 'Ach! I forgot me husband's dinner. I'm so sorry. I was sendin' my wishes ta Brell for health and long life. I was just floatin' coins into the wishin' pool. Usually it's for children but things haven't been so good lately. Here, please take this to him and tell him where I was.'

You receive a "cold plate of beef and bread," which identifies as "Jark's dinner." Take this back to him.

Jark says 'Har, har! No time fer eatin' now! While you were gone I struck me a rich vein. Lookie here! Ya ever seen a gem so pure? It's tiny but clear as glass. Ya take it, ______. Ya showed me some kindness, least I can do. Besides, still a share here for me.'

You receive a Pure Crystal, which identifies as "blessed by compassion."

Gleaming Crested Breastplate

Go back to Reklon Gnallen and give him the Tainted Darksteel Breastplate and Pure Crystal.

Reklon Gnallen presses the gem of purity against the breastplate. Its dark gleam softens and then glows bright once again. 'Compassion is strong in you. Few so called heroes would sacrifice their time for such a menial task as you performed. Continue your work. Hold this ancient breastplate until you have completed your task.'

You receive a Gleaming Crested Breastplate, which identifies as "glowing with a bright light."

The Sword

Remember, Irak Altil said, "Hands of a twisted brother no longer living. The sword must be dipped in water pure."

Tainted Darksteel Sword

The Tainted Darksteel Sword drops from the Keeper of the Tombs in the Ruins of Old Paineel, a.k.a. The Hole. It identifies as "glowing sickly green."

Bucket of Pure Water

The "water pure" comes from doing a sub-quest of helping a peasant woman give some water to her sick brother. The peasant woman is located at +140, -545 in East Freeport post-revamp. She doesn't respond to hails, but has an emote:

peasant woman grunts as she tries to fill two buckets of water. Her frail arms strain at her work and pain fills her eyes with tears.

You say, 'What water?'

peasant woman says 'Aye, water, m'lord. For my brother. He is very sick. He's needin' drink. Hes burnin' up. I am sick myself but still able to move, a little. I must get this water to him before he gets worse.'

You say, 'I will take it to him'

peasant woman looks at you. 'Surely you are a pure soul. If you would take this bucket of water to my brother, I would be forever grateful. I'm just so tired, I need to rest...' She slumps to the floor and begins to breathe shallowly, in short, harsh gasps.

You receive a Bucket of Water, which identifies as "bucket of aqueduct water." Post-revamp, her brother Joshua is located elsewhere in East Freeport near the entrance to the sewers at -35, -470. Give him the bucket.

Joshua dips his emaciated hand into the bucket and brings the water to his mouth. As he does, you hear a soft thump from outside and notice that through the window his sister has collapsed. A glimmer enfolds her body, and you notice the water in Joshua's hand gleam a pure, bright light for a moment. 'Thank you, sir. I hope my sister returns soon. I feel better for some reason.'

You receive a Bucket of Pure Water, which identifies as "blessed by sacrifice."

Gleaming Crested Sword

Give the Tainted Darksteel Sword and the Bucket of Pure Water to Reklon Gnallen.

Reklon Gnallen washes the sword's blade in the water of purity. Its dark surface begins to shine, as true as the day it was forged. 'Such a sacrifice is rare among the poor. Truly, the woman must have loved her brother. Remember the lesson you have learned from her. Keep the sword until your work is done.'

You receive a Gleaming Crested Sword, which identifies as "glowing with a bright light."

The Shield

Remember, Irak Altil said, "Earthly children of the god of hate. Keeping stand over his dark brothers and sisters. Light of clean spirit to cleanse the shield."

Tainted Darksteel Shield

The Tainted Darksteel Shield drops from Kirak Vil in Nektulos Forest. It identifies as "glowing sickly green." To get him to attack say "I am a paladin"

Light of Clean Spirit

The "light of clean spirit" isn't an object, unlike the other two items. Rather, it's the literal "clean spirit" of Elia the Pure in Felwithe. She is by the water just before you enter the inner city zone.

You say, 'Hail, Elia the Pure'

Elia the Pure says 'Hail to you, friend. If you require assistance, please ask, if not I must return to my tasks.'

You say, 'What tasks?'

Elia the Pure says 'It is here that the light shines brightest in our fair city. Here I sit, transcribing scrolls of luminescence. Spells to light the dark, to blind the evil with purity, or to heal those in pain. I find it so much easier to work with such spells if I am in the light itself.'

You say, 'What purity?'

Elia the Pure says 'Cleansing and such. Often our temple will cleanse evil. If you have need of such a thing, I can help. Merely let me examine the item.'

Gleaming Crested Shield

Give her the Tainted Darksteel Shield.

Elia the Pure squints and turns her head. 'By the gods, such a twisted aura this has! To see it hurts my eyes. I will help you if for no other reason than to remove such a twisted thing from existence.' She unrolls a scroll from her pack and softly chants over the dark metal shield. She hands it back to you with an exhausted smile on her face. 'Your heart seems pure. If I was able to help at all, I am honored. May the light shine warmly upon you.'

You receive the Gleaming Crested Shield, which identifies as "glowing with a bright light."

Final Steps

Mark of Atonement

Return to Reklon Gnallen. Hand him the Gleaming Crested Breastplate, Gleaming Crested Sword, and Gleaming Crested Shield.

Reklon Gnallen says 'I never thought our order would see these artifacts again. With the return of these relics we can now put at ease a scar upon the history of our order. This cleansing will atone for his failure. Your soul must be pure to have given so freely of yourself. Go now, take this crested token of our order. If you wish to free his soul you must undertake another sacrifice.'

You receive a Mark of Atonement, which identifies as "Mark of Peace."

You say, 'What sacrifice?'

Reklon Gnallen says 'Only this crest and the sacrifice of something that symbolizes your strength and purity will release his spirit into the cleansing flames of our lady Quellious. Go now.'

Freeing Irak

When Reklon mentions "something that symbolizes your strength and purity," he is in fact referring to the Fiery Avenger. The last step is to turn in the Mark of Atonement and the Fiery Avenger to Irak Altil in Fear. Turn in the two items together. Irak will then give you your new Fiery Defender.

Irak Altil screams so loudly it echoes across the valley as the mark and flames of your holy sword touch his rotted bones. As his body twists he quiets and then speaks. 'Your selflessness has made it possible to redeem my honor. With the cleansing of my corruption your own soul has been strengthened. Your power comes from your devotion to your god and with this you have been rewarded. Remember always your purity, devotion, and why you have sacrificed. I must go now to sacrifice myself upon the spear of pain.'

You receive your Fiery Defender!

Well tomorrow is patch day, what say we see what comes of all the talk about the old FA and such. I'm just ready for this quest to be completed so I can hurry up and get to lvl 60 before velious launch (ya right) and have the new divine strength working with my new FA.

Well, to all those turning in components after CT goes down good luck.
Well you know it ain't easy

Look kids .. as pallys you know verant gives us the most insanely retarded quests ever.. why? who knows bunch of necro lovers i guess.. anyways, if everything stays true to what it is now chances are that the old FA won't be required for the new particle weapon.. why you ask.. I'm glad you did.. See if the old FA was required then that would mean that Pallys got screwed again with the epic weapon.. Think about it .. How hard is the FA quest? ..Now look at what the other classes epics involves and how insane those are requiring drops of newer mobs, for the most part. Now in all likelyhood the chances of anyone having the FA and particle weapon is almost nil (save for a few uber guilds). I think as bad as Verant is they are a little more creative than that, heh we're all consumed with the FA being a part of this quest that we are blinding ourselves to other alternatives.. Also in the pre-hype over the particle weapons they did stat that we would get a SECOND sword quest and by all accounts i do believe this new epic sword will be a 1hs to round out the pally ******* in a way and gives us back our trademark of a sword and shield combo ..Well just my 2 cents .. that would be the only way to balance a pally against the new warrior without having to tweak stats :-)

Interesting thought... maybe it is a 1hs. Is it possible that what we need to turn in isn't a paladin usable weapon at all? It is believed that SK's need to turn in a GB. Maybe we need to turn in an SK weapon like Bloodmoon, or something like that.
"Symbol of YOUR Strength and Purity"

Now that we've all beaten this into the ground... I'm going to give my humble opinion.
Reklon Ghalen says, and I quote, "Only this crest and the sacrifice of something that symbolizes YOUR strength and purity will release his spirit into the cleansing flames of our lady Quellious."
He says "your." not just "a symbol of strength and purity," but "a symbol of YOUR strength and purity." What else symbolizes this other than the FA?? It's the hardest thing for us to get, right? I strongly believe that this is indeed what we need to turn in. And, as it has been previously stated, the old FA quest would be completely obsolete if it wasn't somehow included in our new quest. That's my opinion. :)

The old FA isn't the toughest to get there are tougher. To answer about why the last component might not be the FA which would "make the old FA obsosete if it wasn't it), the old FA wouldn't be obsolete if the component was something so difficult to get only uber guilds such as FoH could get to the area of the item drop and then have to farm it for that item. If the new quest was so hard many would just rather get the old FA since it's not that hard to get.

About verant giving it to palys when they handed back the FAs that isn't entirely a "give away". If you turned in such an item and got nothing out of it what would you do? petition of course. So after all these people petitioned verant noticed the quest was broken and therefore it would be wrong NOT to re-emburse the lost items.

I'm not saying this is how it is, I'm just playing the devils advocate. You can always have a good point and think your right, when you don't know anything about the other side of the story.

Well... Like I said, I was just posting my personal opinion, I wasn't trying to make you all agree with it. Although, as it has been previously pointed out, why is it that Verant didn't know the quest was broken until AFTER all those people turned in their FAs and got nothing? If it had been the incorrect item, then they still would've got nothing if the quest had been working, and therefore, Verant would NOT have replaced them. I suppose that Verant was expecting those Paladins to receive their new weapon on handing in their old one, and having that not happen, realized that the quest was broken. This is my logic. I'm not asking you to agree with me, I'm merely expressing my views. And also, I'm not saying that THIS is how it is, either. :) /e wishes she knew who she was talking to, since they didn't sign their name.

I agree that FA is the most likely item in this question, but... If it were to the correct item, and Verant was willing to give back because it didn't give the expected result, then shouldn't Verant have given them the item that is suppose to result after giving the FA? If not the particle weapon, then it might just open up another quest that requires you to be there to hear the npc speak the words to know what to do next. Well, I guess I answered my own question... There must be another part to the quest after you turn in the FA, or else Verant would have just given those people thier particle weapons.

Just MY humble opinion =)

But if there was another part of the quest...
# Nov 13 2000 at 3:49 PM Rating: Default
I understand what you're saying... and really, you make a good point. Why didn't Verant just hand the people their particle weapons?? Who knows. /shrug! But about there being another part of the quest... think about that for just a minute. If you have to turn in your FA to get to the next part of the quest... ACK! you have no weapon! Unless, of course, you keep an extra handy. But, you woulnd't have your GB or your SF, since you have to hand those in to get the FA... and if you handed in the FA without getting another weapon in return, you'd be weaponless! That might make it a bit harder to beat the baddies down... But I don't know if most paladins are in the habit of carrying an extra weapon around with them or what. /shrug But as for Verant not just giving them their weapons... I dunno! I don't have all the answers... I don't know for sure. It's merely my opinion. That's a good question, though... about Verant... hmm... /ponder...

By the time you are a high enough level to get a FA, I'm sure getting a replacement weapon would never be a problem. =P Maybe the next part is something simple, like 'take this note to so-and-so in this place and recieve the gift of the gods...' or some such nonsense. =P

I dont even know why I care, BUT heres a logical conclusion from what Ive read here.

Some of you have turned in your FAs and got nothing...
Then Verant goes Opps quest is broken, heres your FAs back...
Now none of you all can figure out what the final component is...
HELLO Veriant as much as said that it was your dorky firey swordy things when they handed them back. If it wasnt those swords why give them back or how would Verant have know that the quest was broke. I mean come on, if they knew there would have been a post somewhere. Obviously they didnt and when you turned the FAs in they too found out because logically they expected you to recieve your sword.

Now shut up and twink me.

Old FA

You really must not read what you write. You said "if Verant DOESNT include the old FA as a component in the new FA quest, they are idiots." and then "The New FA quest SO far is VERY easy". I take it your saying verant are idiots if the FA isn't part of the quest because the quest is to easy so far am I right? How can you say that when you don't even know what the last component is for sure? The old FA isn't even that hard to get it just takes the right friends and time. There are alot of items harder to get than the old FA but you only think this last component is the old FA because that's what happened with the SF and it's the easiest thing to think of.

I disagree with you completely and I say that if the old FA is indeed the last component then verant is a bunch of idiots because that would mean the new epic FA is just the same quest as the old FA, you get the flaming sword (ie. SF) and turn it in for another flaming sword. How original is that, that isn't a quest at all it's a damn road trip to get a couple of easy items needed for a upgraded weapon. There is not 1 single class that started off possessing over half of their epic quest when they were implamented in game, why should we.

Also if you didn't notice, every single class epic quest and sub-quest is started and finished by entirely new npc's that never existed before and the quests they give are new quests as well. Why would the paladins get the luxury of having over half their epic quest already written out for them?

The last component is not the symbol of marr or the shield from inny and I don't think it's the FA either as I've stated before. I, like most other palys plane old don't know yet but I'm working on it. If indeed the last component is the old FA I'll be glad because that means our quest would be the easiest of them all.

But again, there are other items more difficult to obtain then the old FA, or does every paly on your server have the sky quest haste belt or zephyrwind etc? There's a number of posiblities that haven't been explored yet, but we won't know till after this next patch.

I said the old FA should be part of the new FA quest because IF it isnt? WHO the hell is going to work on the old FA quest? why would you? That quest Verant took so long to create, would be worthless, NOBODY would do it. Players would just be able to skip it and get a weapon that, not only is better, but just as hard, if not easier to get.

Not only that, but our quest is most likely GOING to be the easier of the epic quests to get. Well, because we already got ours. We are just going to
"upgrade" our old one. If you notice some of the new class FA's require items from Dragons or Gods, similar to what we had to do to get our old FA.

The only other alternative i see, is the Zephyrwind. BUT, i dont see Verant completley abandoning the old FA, cause that is exactly what they would be doing if it wasnt included in this quest...

I just wanted to say that if Verant DOESNT include the old FA as a component in the new FA quest, they are idiots. What that would do is make the old FA quest completley worthless, and NOBODY would do it, when they could skip it and go straight for the new FA.

The New FA quest SO far is VERY easy, escpecially if your in a guild. Just some rare spawns in not to difficult areas. If we dont have to have the old FA to get the new FA, our quest will be a joke. And every paladin and their mother will have the new FA once someone completes the quest.

The bottom line is, anyone who does not think the old FA should be a part of the new FA quest, doesnt have the old FA. Cause everyone else who put the time and effort in getting the old FA sure as hell wants that sword in the quest. It would be stupid not to. Brad said himself when he posted about the Class FA's.. that he "heard" that even the Paly FA was going to be "UPGRADED" for something to be upgraded, you have to have the original piece.

And for those of you that are going to complain that you cant get the Old FA anymore because you cant kill Naggy and Vox, cause your 53+. Well, its time to get a bunch of friends, or join a guild. Cause now your going to have to take out the Emerald Jungle Dragon or Dreadlands Dragon.

Broken quest
# Nov 05 2000 at 2:42 PM Rating: Default
For those of you that don't already know, the old FA has been turned in and it didn't work. However verant did say that the paly quest was broken and they would return the lost items, the quest will be fixed in the next upcoming patch.

Now about the old FA being the last and final "symbol of strength and purity", I really we need to look somewhere else. In order for the old FA to be the key item our new FA would have to have ungodly stats, and if you compare the stats of the old FA with those of the warrior FA I don't see that happening. Old paly FA stats are: Damage 33, Delay 44, + 15 str, + 10 chr, + 15 wis, + 25 hp, +25 mana, + 5 to all saves Effect of flame shock. New warrior FA stats are: Damage 36, Delay 41, +20 str, +15 dex, +15 sta, +60 hp, +10 to all protections Effect of Rage of Zek. Since verant stated that all the FA type quests will be fairly equal to each class it doesn't look like ours is going to be much better than the warrior FA, that's if it isn't a little weaker since warriors have the edge on weapons over us.

Granted verant said they were going to upgrade all the FAs to better match that of the cleric FA, but from comparing the stats I can't say that it would be worth doing all that work just to "upgrade" your old FA for a slight improvement on stats. The epic quest is a "new" FA for all classes, verant never said anything about replacing the old one. Alot makes sense if the FA is the missing piece but then again there's alot of wholes if that is the case as well, so with that in mind I am exploring other options.

By the way, the new epic quest was not a cop-out of the old FA quest so it in no way means you have to turn in the FA like you had to turn in the SF and GB. Verant would have to be pretty lame to do that, oh wait... haha.

Let's just stop and think about this whole thing for a minute shall we? In our original FA quest, we had to give up our 2 best paladin only weapons to get a, in my opinion, mediocre weapon compared to what is out there. Based on the stats of other particle weapons, the old FA is definately a piece of junk. Now, knowing this, we can naturally deduce that the next step is going to be a phenominal weapon. This being true(crossing fingers and hoping I don't have to curse Verant again), we would have to give up our best paladin weapon again, just like the first time. If I actually had a first edition FA, I would gladly take the chance on losing it knowing that if I am right, I will possess the best weapon in the game. Come on, if the old FA is the only weapon you have, shame on you your other skills are falling behind and need to catch up anyway. If you have one, try it, if not, help me get one, and I will.

Ok lets think about this logicly first off lets look at all the otehr quest that have been done and see what they have to turn in as their final items then see what paladins have taht is in the same class of items as them someone said monk have to turn in their robe of whisleing fist or what ever but what ever otehrs have to turn in lets see what we have taht compares to otehr class's stuff. Then again verant does seem to make paladins lifes harder then otehr class's.

This last post was correct, we need to act! If I was powerful enough to attempt the quest, I would definately give it a try. Lets get on this! It seems we know everything about the quest, but SOMEONE needs to hand in their Fiery Avenger, just to confirm that this is or isn't the 2nd symbol! One of your 55+ th rank Paladins in strong guilds should definately give this a try. If its the right item, than congrats, you solved the quest! If not, your guild can help you get another. We're dangerously lagging behind other classes, and considering how well we Knights typically work togeather, i'm surprised at that!

Someone has already tried FA, and has also already tried SoulFire. Considering that a 55+ can't hunt the dragons for the books to get FA again, it was a MAJOR sacrifice to even attempt it.

Yes, they can get another SF, but they'd have to drop down to 53 to get another FA.

I agree, though, that information about our quest has been extremely lacking. Not sure why...I'm not a high enough level yet to even consider attempting part of the quest.

a couple flaws with your post my friend. First the dragons in kunark (naggy and vox copies) also drop the books, verant did this so pallies wouldnt be TOTALLY screwed, also word is the epic quests wont be fixed till directx7 patch, meaning when FA was turned in quest wasnt working properly so it still may be the FA

Could someone post the item stats on the Gleaming Sword, Gleaming Shield and Gleaming Breastplate?

After all... if they're 1) Not no drop, they can be sold to lower level Paladins or gifted to Paladins working on the quest. 2) If the Gleaming Breastplate is nice enough, get a second one and wear it! 3) If the particle weapon is 1h-slash and the Gleaming Shield is cool enough, carry it!

The Shamen are getting nice SoW boots and a pretty nice shield... why shouldn't we?

I verry siriously doubt that FA is involved in any way with this new weapon. We get the new particle weapon for 2 reasons, first of all, even the nuker particle weapons would kick FAs ***. Second because of some problems with getting FA, FA is arguably harder to get than some of the new weapons. With FA being so hard to get, there is not but a very slim chance that it would be needed to get the new fa weapon.
RE: FA
# Oct 26 2000 at 12:58 PM Rating: Default
i hafta say your probably wrong.

it seems most of the classes epic weps need to have something of great value given to an NPC to get it.
Monks need to give their Robe of the whistleing fists (a 8+ hour quest)

mages saposedly need to give up the staff of earth mastery (a RARE drop off innorok)

i wouldent put it past them to make the paladins lose their avenger.
RE: FA
# Oct 25 2000 at 5:55 PM Rating: Default
Gotta tell you... you are so wrong.

Look how hard it is to get Ro Armour compared to just about any other quest armour.

Verant loves to make things difficult for Paladins... The only "fighter" class that has a tougher time in melee is the Ranger, and that's only because of their armour limitations.

I just hope that the new particle weapon for the Paladins is a 1h-slash and not 2h. I hate not carrying a shield, especially when there are so many nice ones to choose from.

Uh huh...

Do you honestly expect Verant to be fair comparing Warriors to Paladins? Let's look at some facts here.

Warrior Crafted is 5 to 10 times easier to get than Ro Armour, and better ac as well. Warrior Planar armour also has better ac.

When Kunark was released, there went the supremacy of the FA. Just looking at the weapon charts, I can see three weapons that out-damage it. Not to mention what a warrior can do with two 1h weapons.

One final word of how Verant is going to ***** us Paladins over. In a chat session, Abashi told us that when Velious is released... Paladins will gain the "Piercing" skill for using 2 handed piercing weapons. So, not only do they hand us a new skill so late in our careers that it'll be impossible to raise, they take away our shields when we're using it!

Just be glad they didn't make our new epic quest weapon a 2h-blunt... how many of you have that skill maxed out?

Get Ghoulbane
Get Soulfire
Get Fiery Avenger
Goto Hate get Tainted Breastplate
Goto Nek. Forest Kill guard near newbie log for Tainted Shield
Goto the Hole get Tainted Sword

Goto Kaladim ask a dwarf in the mines about getting his dinner, goto his wife, she is outside preists temple, only spawns when you ask about his dinner. Tell her you will take dinner. Give dinner to dwarf recieve Gem

Give Shield to lady in Felwithe Elia the Pure Recieve Gleaming Shield

Get pure water from freeport. Goto monk guild and wait for a woman to spawn in the water there, follow commands to get a pail of water, give water to her brother in nearest house, receive bucket of pure water.

give Gem and BP to the Eruidte in Erudian receive Gleaming BP

give bucket and sword to same erudite recieve gleaming sword

give all 3 gleaming items to him as well. Receive Atonement Icon

now this seems bugged at the moment. The Mob named Irak in Fear is turned off, but speculation is clear that you turn in the atonement and Fiery Avenger.

Why is this? well Irak before he was bugged did respond to the atonement given to him, plus the Fiery Avenger, FA's where handed to him by many paladins, and so far Varent has said the items that were given to this mob will be replaced since the quest was not tested correctly. So, it is believed to be the end of our quest, however until patchday we will not know.Patch day I believe is still a week away.

I dunno, I think it ends with another large mob needing to be slain, seems too easy, that or our weapon will be as stinky as the Warrior Weapon

Well, if you haven't gotten Soulfire or the Firey Avenger yet, it's very hard.

Even harder if you're above level 52, as you'll have to go after the Kunark dragons for the stuff you need.

Personally, I rather hope the list you gave is correct. It means that doing the old Firey Avenger quest is still worthwhile and that Verant isn't trying to murder more Paladins.

I'm not saying to give him both of the items but just the item in question.. if he says something other then the "I don't know what to do with this" line, then we have our item and give him the the atonement thing, if you mess up, I'm sure just about every other pally will be thankful and sympathic to your lose and will help you get a replacement for the valant effort and information you have gained for our cause.

I think I speak for many when I say I will be PISSED if I have to turn in FA to get the new epic weapon. Reason 1, that would mean you still have to remain level 52 to get a FA in order to get the new weapon! 2, FA is already frighteningly difficult to get, having it be a part of the new weapon quest would make our new epic weapon at least 3 times more difficult to attain then any other class. 3, we already have to give up soulfire and ghoulbane. Ghoulbane can be attained solo by any 50+ paladin, but my faction with rogues in freeport is horrible, don't know if I could get another SF. It is possible I could use a toon to do some of the work, not sure about that.

All the quests that have been completed to date have been such that no limit is placed on the level of the winner, if we have to turn in a FA then we will be forced to stay at 52 or delevel back to 52 unless we already have a FA so I dismiss that as insane. Requiring us to turn in Shield of the Immaculate is also nearly insane by comparison to the other completed quests. We seem to be the only class that has to turn in things we actually want to keep and use, and likely will never get again in order to get something else.

Clearly these quests are not meant to be completed by everyone, and that is fine, but to be forced to turn in a FA or the Innurak shield is not fair, there must be another way then that, and also, my guess is the paladin epic quest will be the LAST one completed because no paladin I know will turn in either of those items to complete the quest. Only a paladin in some Uber guild who somehow manages to attain everything required for a 2nd FA would be crazy enough to hand it over to some npc.

Also, just stop for a moment to think of what this entails, at several stages a paladin will have to get a great deal of help with SF, Ghoulbane, beat the odds and win the nagafan book, and really get lucky and win the vox book (if she ever dies), then get help again for miragul, then go after FA. Then WIN a shield from Innurak. I think when you think of this as a whole you will see that it would be simply to much. Having said that however, I look forward to completing the quest and with any luck I will get my vox book today and have both books.

Ironically, there are new paladins that have achieved higher levels than I, that were created when I was level 50. I've decided to focus instead on the fun of the game. I've seem several of my friends receive their epic quest weapons, and have had the good fortune to have enjoyed helping them along the way. Right now is a fun time in the game with all the "calls to arms." The Soulfire wasn't the best weapon out there. It just looked cooler than any other weapon. =) With at least 2 groups of friends, around thier 40's, you can help in getting your Soulfire at about lvl 35. I got mine at 36. FA really is a lvl 50 weapon. You can't get it once you reach lvl 52, since you get kicked out of certain lairs at that level. (To keep the number of FA's to a minimum.) Once you get into your 40's, start participating in multi guild raids. Make some friends in the process, and you'll start becoming a regular on these raids, just like the rest of the people that join in. My last raid was on Lord Nagafen. There were 50 of us, and the loot was divided fairly by the person in charge of us all. (Though the highest pally got the piece of the book needed for the FA) =P

well, the newer FA would mostlikely be stronger than the old FA. But as for the point of having two, maybe paladins are spoiled or something. But then again, Warriors get 3 particle weapons too. And each weapon mostlikely be stronger than any of the pal particle weapons...

You must remember, to get the SoulFire its a long quest (cause you can start it early), but to even GET the Fiery Avenger, you have to give a npc the Soulfire and a Ghoulbane in exchange...and most likely to get the new FA the "old" one will have to be sacrifced as well by the looks of things. I have quit playing EQ last Feb but I really keep up with most things (actually, the things people post on sites like this). Anyway, if I remember things properly, you can't do SF at higher level (around level 40) cause the earlier portion of the quest requires the pally to be around level 8 or 9 and the item you get from that part of the quest is no drop. Well, there goes your hope to 3 weapons at a time. BTW, has anyone talked to Verant about excluding FA from being an item needed to get the new FA? Make sure they don't make both the new and old FAs 1HS or 2HS at the same time, tho (can't remember if FA is 1HS or 2HS)

You can be any level to start the SF quest. The npc's in Freeport will give you the stuff you need, regardless. The only problem is, at higher levels, you are more than likely KoS to the Freeport Militia. That was the problem that my dumb **** ran into at level 35. To get to all of the npc's in east and west Freeport, you need a someone to hang out with you, that can keep you invised. There are no FP militia inside the seafarer's roost or inside the prison. There are a few rogues inside the roost, though. I wasn't KoS to them, yet, so all went well.

Have we descided what this item could be yet ?

I have seen two items mentioned, Old Firey Avenger and Symbol of Marr

But I have an item that to me, makes far more sense.

"The Sheild of Immaculation"
25AC +10 STRENGTH, +25 vs Desease, Effect: Counteract desease (The sheild is tradable BTW)

Paladin Only and dropped by Inno

So this item has nice high strength, is paladin only, a rare drop from a god and could you take "purity", as the ability to cure any desease for free ?

So far all our quest revolves around altering something tainted into something gleaming, and altering something undead and repentful, into somethink paladin like and more honourable. This sheild in effect turns those deseased, into those "clean" again. Leppers cured of their desease were called "clensed".

To me this item fits more into the "Symbol of Strenth and Purity" than any other item I have yet seen. Plus it is a rare drop off a god, and other quests involve things dropping off gods.

Just a thourght, I will for sure try giving in the sheild, when I manage to make my crest and the NPC is back in Fear. (I only have the gleaming BP at the moment)

This sounds like the answer to me! Verant cant seriously expect people to hand in the fiery avenger can they?

Youd expect this quest to be seperate and not linked to the FA quest, i mean are any of the other classes quests linked in such a massive way?

Considering its a rare inny drop like many of the other items needed for epic quest weapons id tend to think this is the best suggestion Ive seen so far :)

Good thinking

Now try it out lol

I would guess that the Symbol of Marr would have to be the key choice in this situation. i mean it has STR and WIS and it is a "Symbol" is it not? Just my two cents but iy seems the most logical

Not for nothing but the shining star of light has the effect: cleanse, so who really knows what to think.

If your a lvl 60 pally thats done everything we know to do for this quest, from what i've read you hack away at people to get the armor and stuff, and then do some simple quests to get the stuff to purify it. Ta-da, your almost done...? I'm guessing that the symbol you need to turn in is the FA, which is really just my boring opinion. You just hafta work hard for it so the quest would be worthwhile. Y'know, I think it would be the funniest thing in the world if this wasn't the quest for the new sword. XD Hmm i wonder if this was the line for the FA's old quest that no one ever discovered(they gotta put something back on that quest line, hehe.) Anyways, i'll shut up now and let you people continue your search for the sword. ^~

I have to agree with this suggestion. I consider this logic easier to follow than the Symbol of Marr train of thought. Yes I understand that it is a "Symbol", but should we take this literally?

Thoughts on the Shield of the Immaculation: When I think purity the first thing that comes to my mind, in game terms, is disease free. Also the strength part is covered whether you consider it AC or strength attribute. The name of the item basically means "pure" right?

Of course it is easy to guess when your not the one handing over the fat loot. )
not sure, but...

i heard a rumor you may have to get the hearts from all the dragons in Veeshans Peak. this is on the MaximumEQ site on the FA thred. this was before all the talk about these quests but maybe its true. site is www.maximumeq.com

There was too much BS about the FA anyways. Btw, wouldn't it have been cooler if the FA's flame was blue? Blue is hotter than red. (Never seen it but isn't green the hottest or no?) ..cause the new sword's flame should be green then hehe. Even though the green and gold would clash. ^~ if you want me to shut up raise your hand ...................................................now please. =)

Ive seen an unofficial screenshot its a long sword with about 20 rings of fire running up the blade. Kinda cool looking but it isnt as fiery as the fiery avenger
