Full Walkthrough

You say, 'Hail Tomekeeper Dahl'

Tomekeeper Danl says 'Good day, citizen. Please remember to keep your voice down in our library. Feel free to browse the extensive collection of books we have on display. Learning is all about you and our library is the greatest collection of educational literature in the world, as you can no doubt see. However, there are a few books we do not own and we are prepared to pay well to acquire [rare finds].

You say, 'What rare finds?'

Tomekeeper Danl says 'Yes, any rare books, tomes, essays, or other literature you find may be of interested to me. Although the finds I am interested in are quite high profile and would most likely only be found in the possession of very powerful or influential beings. Give me what you have found and I will pay you what it is worth to us.

The book he requires is called 'Immortals', which can be found on various named mobs in Skyfire (Guardian of Felia, A Lava Walker, A Wandering Wurm, Black Scar, Faerie of Dismay).

Give Tomekeeper Danl the book of Immortals and get this response:

Tomekeeper Danl gasps at the sight of the rare book and says, 'This is a great find indeed! I can only imagine who you had to.. persuade to give you the book. Our library would be very interested in acquiring this and I am prepared to give you this platinum and a referral that marks you as a friend of the library. If only [Lheao] could see this.'

You say, 'Who is Lheao?'

Tomekeeper Danl says 'Lheao was my predecessor here at the Library of Erudin. He has since retired, just a few years ago. I'm sure he would be most impressed with your find and offer insightful conversation on the subject. Although I'm not sure one of your profession would be interested in such a scholarly endeavor, no offense. If you are interested, find him and tell him you found the book 'Immortals.' I'm not sure where he has retired to, but I hear it is near an ocean somewhere.

He gives you a piece of paper called Danl's Reference.

Before continuing on, you will need to complete the following quests in this order:

Red Sash of Order (required to get the Robe of the Lost Circle)
Monk Purple Headband (required to get the Robe of the Lost Circle)
Monks of the Whistling Fists (to obtain the Robe of the Lost Circle, which is required to get the Robe of the Whistling Fists)
The Lost Circle (to obtain the Robe of the Whistling Fists, which is required in the next part of the monk epic)

Next, head to the hidden oasis in Timorous Deep. Once there, speak to Lheao.

You say, 'Hail Lhaeo'

Lheao jumps at your voice and begins laughing at his skittishness. He says, 'Ahh, hello there. Not many people know of this place, so visitors are quite rare. Hehehe. It's a very beautiful place indeed, so, ummm, please don't go telling everyone you know about it. Heheh. Thanks, friend.'

You say, 'I have found the book Immortals'

Lheao looks up at you, eyes wide in astonishment, and says, 'My god, you found 'Immortals'?! Where did you find it? Never mind, that is unimportant. I have in my possession a book that explains more about these individuals. Its value is unimaginable as well as the impact it is capable of. As you can see, I grow old. I need an individual to watch over this book and make sure it is protected. Would you be willing to [take this responsibility]?'

You say, 'I will take this responsibility'

Lheao says 'I'm sorry, but I could only give this book to a true master, such as a member of the Whistling Fists Order. And unless you can give me proof that you are one, in addition to Danl's reference, which is very unlikely, there is no way I'll let you take charge of [the Celestial Fists].

You say, 'What Celestial Fists?'

Lheao says 'The Celestial Fists is the title of a book written by an unknown author. His writing is sub par but the legend is interesting from a biographical standpoint alone. Its rarity commands top dollar in the scholarly community but the secrets revealed in the book are what truly makes it dangerous. I've thought many times to destroy it but just couldn't. I hope I'm able to find someone to watch over it soon.

Hand in the Robe of the Whistling Fists and Danl's Reference to get this response:

Lheao says 'Astonishing! To think that you are a master of an order thought to be lost to our world. Forgive my earlier doubts. I believe you are indeed worthy to be given the responsibility of watching over this book. Take great care that it does not fall into the wrong hands as it would be truly disastrous.

The Celestial Fists Book is illegible.

Now head to Trakanon's Teeth and find an NPC named Kaiaren. He is located at Loc -1609, -2679, in the undead ruins.

You say, 'Hail Kaiaren'

Kaiaren says, "AHHH get it away from me go away .. leave me alone".

You say, 'What Celestial Fists?'

Kaiaren says 'Eh? What's that? Bah! That was destroyed long ago. Don't waste my time with fairy taAAAAAGGHHH GET IT AWAY!!!! HELP!!! They're all over MEHEHEHEHEEEEEEee!!

Hand the book "Celestial Fists" to Kaiaren, you will get the Celestial Fists book back and get this response:

Kaiaren's eyes open wide and he attacks you!

If you kill him, you'll get the response, 'Not bad.. Now lets see if you can find my trueform if you do we discuss this further.'

However it is not necessary to kill him. You can just Feign Death to eliminate his aggro.

Now go out and find Kaiaren's true form, which spawned when you gave the book to the angry form. This version is also called Kaiaren, and spawns at approximately +300, +2400 in a building next to the lake. He is indifferent to all.

When you hand him the book, he says the following:

(NOTE: The book you handed in was called "Celestial Fists." The book you get back is called "Book of Celestial Fists." Do NOT hand this book in yet, as he will also be expecting an item you have not yet obtained.)

Kaiaren says 'Now, then. Where did you find this, monk? This is not just some light reading to be borrowed from the town library. Who gave this to you?

You say, 'I got it from Lheao'

Kaiaren says 'Hmmm, never heard of him. Well, it doesn't matter, the book is here now. Curse that idiot for writing it in the first place. Not even sure why I let him stick around. If you ever see that clown monk Aradiel kick him in the shins for me! At any rate, I suppose you'd like to find the Fists and [have a nice chat with them], eh? Their master owes me much. I would reward you well if you were to bring me proof of the master's defeat'

You say, 'I would like to have a nice chat with them'

Kaiaren says 'Yes, I suppose you would. All you children looking for fame and glory will eventually learn the poison of ambition. But how will you find them? They are able to meld with their elements seamlessly and they certainly have no interest in fooling with the likes of you. No, you will need to get their attention. Fortunately, I know [how you can do this].

You say, 'How can I do this?'

Kaiaren says, 'My guess is that the weakest of the Fists will be the easiest to draw out. He is egotistical and arrogant. How he came to master the Discipline of Fire, I do not know. He will most likely be in another form, one of his element. When you find the one you believe to be the Fist, you must challenge him. If you use his true name, Eejag, in your formal challenge, he will respond. A flame can burn intensely but it cannot last for long. Know this when you battle him.

At this point, head on over to the Lavastorm Mountains with a group and find an imp named "A Fire Sprite" and say "I challenge Eejag." There will be a shout to the zone (if no shout, it means Eejag is already up):

Eejag shouts, "What imbecile dares challenges a Celestial Fist?! Do you even know who you are challenging? HA! You are nothing but an insect! I will enjoy crushing you, I have not charred the flesh of an idiot in decades! If you truly wish to fight me, the battle shall be held in my own element. Come, challenger, come down to the pits of flowing fire."

Head over to the fire pit by the entrances to Sol A and Sol B. Under the middle smoke plume, about half way down, you'll see Eejag (an Iksar) swimming. He cannot be pulled so you'll have to fight him where he is -- in the lava.

Once killed, he drops a Charred Scale.

Head back to Trakanon's Teeth and hand the Charred Scale to the true form of Kaiaren. The scale is returned to you, and you get the following:

Kaiaren says 'Ahhh, impressive indeed! Now that you have broken the chain of the Fists, the others may come toppling down if you persevere. The Fist of Air is now the weakest, then Earth, and finally Water before the master of them all, Vorash. You must defeat them in order, proving the demise of the last to draw out the one you are after. The task before you now is to take this scale and show it to the Fist of Air wherever he may be. Good luck.

Now head up to the Plane of Sky and find an NPC named "A Presence" on Noble Dojorn's island. It is in the form of a shadowman so only the name is visible.

Hand the Charred Scale over to the Presence and get this response:

a presence says 'Hahaha! That dolt Eejag fell to the likes of you? I'm not surprised. So, I guess this means you're here to challenge me. Normally, I wouldn't waste my time, but since you've defeated my younger brother, I suppose I'm obligated. I'm ready when you are, tell me when you're [prepared].

The Presence will despawn and a Human monk named Gwan appears in his place. Telling him 'I am prepared' causes him to attack (or do it the old fashioned way by engaging him first).

(NOTE: Gwan procs Fist of Air which can knock you backwards. This can be dangerous if you're too close to the island's edge.)

Once dead, loot the "Breath of Gwan" and go directly to the Mines of Nurga to find a sleeping ogre. He's KOS so you may have to have an enchanter charm him for this next part.

Once you're ready for a fight, hand him the Breath of Gwan to get this response:

a sleeping ogre says 'Your path of wanton destruction ends here. Gwan and Eejag were impatient and hot-headed. You will not defeat me, for I have the patience and perseverance of stone, unlike the children you have beaten before me. Are you sure you want to challenge me?

He won't give you a chance to respond. Trunt, a 59th level KOS ogre will immediately spawn and attack. He is immune to magic and a tougher fight than the previous ones.

He drops Trunt's Head.

Take the head to Lake Rathe and find a 58th level dark elf named Deep who lives in the lake. Hand Trunt's Head to her to get the following:

Deep slowly opens her eyes and looks up at you. She stares at you a long while and then closes her eyes and lowers her head again, saying, 'Very well, if you wish death so greatly, we will be happy to oblige. My master projects part of himself in the wilder lands known as the Overthere. He has granted you an audience. Find him and show him the head of our earth brother. At that point, we will discuss how we will end your life.

Deep despawns immediately and you get the Head of Trunt back.

Head to the Overthere, and find Astral Projection in the bottom of the scorpion chasm at +3830, -3545. He does not need to be fought.

Hand Trunt's Head over and get the following response:

Astral Projection looks up and down and says, 'Hmmm, I was hoping for something more impressive. This is just a small token of the last person who tried to interfere with my plans. He failed as you shall. But tell me truly, are you the one who has so rudely removed my students?'

You say, 'Yes'

Astral Projection says 'I assume you have read about us and spoken with the old man, Kaiaren. Since that time, I have grown in power and influence to a point unseen by any mortal. Unfortunately, I will have to demonstrate a small amount of my skill when I destroy you. This is bad. I must decide whether you are worthy to see the techniques I wield, even though you will die shortly thereafter. Tell me, who are you?

You say, 'I am the one'

Astral Projection chuckles and says, 'That's quite a boast. All beings strive for nothingness at the most basic level of sentience. However, almost none ever achieve this. Not even I have discarded my ego yet and you stand here and tell me you have? Perhaps you will be a worthy opponent. I shall be waiting in the great lake near here. Take that token as proof of things to come for you. If you still wish to throw your life away so needlessly, return it to my image there. I await your decision.'

He will give you an Eye of Kaiaren and then despawn.

Now head to the Lake of Ill Omen for the final fight of the monk epic. You can find Astral Projection (same form as the Overthere version) on the platform in the lake itself at +765, +860.

When you give the Eye of Kaiaren to the Astral Projection, he despawns. Deep and Vorash will then both spawn, and are very much KOS.

Deep procs Fist of Water, and hits for 170ish. Vorash procs Fist of Mastery, which is a DD and a stun, and hits for around the same as Deep.

Both Deep and Vorash have no items.

Once killed, Vorash says 'Foolish mortal! You think you have defeated me? Now, witness the true power of Rallos Zek!

Xenevorash will then spawn on the platform, regardless of where Vorash dies.

Xenevorash procs Fist of Sentience which is a 500DD and a stun, and hits for 250.

Once he is killed, his death message is:

Xenevorash's corpse shouts 'Grraaaagghhhh!! NOT.. POSSIBLE!

He drops a Demon's Fang.

Finally, head back to Trakanon's Teeth and hand Kaiaren (either form) the Demon's Fang and the "Book of Celestial Fists."

Kaiaren bows his head and breathes a long sigh as if relived of a great weight. He then looks up at you and says, 'I honestly did not believe you could have defeated Vorash. Even though he sought nothing but war and bloodshed, it is a life nonetheless and we must mourn him. I will sew these fangs into magical fist wraps and they shall be yours. Remember Xenevorash. A purpose can be found for every situation and individual. To achieve perfection is to perceive this truth.'

You receive the Celestial Fists.

Ok, I'm done. I didn't kill any mobs such as the "Brother"s and took no other short cuts. I did not use a tracking friend either. The only way you could possibly say i "cheated" was i used a Mercenary frequently.

All in all it took me 4 weeks (Near Enough a Month)... BUT... this wasn't non-stop playing like some sad people. (Sorry but it's true). The pop cycles I had were, I admit pretty lucky, as I have read how long it has taken some people to get mobs such as "a Drolvarg Pawduster"...

The Final section of the Epic Quest (The separate element fights) were easy. Until Vorash came along. Deep, Vorash and Xenevorash are HARD for a 62 Monk and equivalent Tank Mercenary.

I killed Vorash first... mistake there as that triggers Xene's spawn. I lost my Mercenary soon after that. One mend and feign death later I have only Deep and Xene left. :)

So I wait in feign mode and pull my mercenary up again. This time we kill Deep (easy compared to Vorash). and we start hacking away at Xene's bones. I use my Steadfast Servant so that I get haste and AC boost. At 80% (for Xene) Mercenary dies again. and I persevere until Xene is at 45%. Servant is healing me at 300 a click. :D

One more feign death and a wait again. By the time i get my mercenary up again Xene has healed to 54%. And from here on out the Epic Quest is easy... Oh yeah, I lost Xene in the water for a VERY long time when he ran. He wasn't healing though so it was all good.

I got my copy of Immortals today and went to Erudin to turn it in. I get to Danl and hail him, then follow up by saying "What rare finds?" in response to his text. I give him Immortals then follow his text with "Who is Lheao?" but I don't get Danl's Reference like it says I should. Did I do something wrong or is this bugged? I just finished getting my Robe of the Whistling Fists, and would hate to lose it to Lheao because I don't have Danl's Reference.

EDIT: nevermind, I had it in the bank so I must have already done this turn in at some point LOL

Charred Scale and Kaiaren
# Aug 19 2008 at 11:18 AM Rating: Decent
Regarding this part:
"Head back to Trakanon's Teeth and hand the Charred Scale to the true form of Kaiaren. The scale is returned to you, and you get the following:"

You can hand the Charred Scale into the Kaiaren in the undead ruins if the true form is not up and you get the same message about going to Sky next.

I made the mistake of trying to get the true form to pop using the book and had to get the book replaced.

You can just kill Brother Zephyl or Brother Qwinn for their Robe of the Lost Circle, which negates any need for factioning with the sash/headbands at all.

Go through all the sash and headband quests and collect all the drops first. Purchase the "essences" as stated by Steon, and do the turn-ins all at once.

No faction work needed. However, you will build up faction camping and killing in the zones.

Alright, the thing is, you need to spend money instead. For the first part of the epic, where you need to hail a guy in Erudin, you should talk to a Shaman or just go to Bazaar. The potion you need is either "Essence of Human", which will bring you dubious, and the other is "Essence of Eruidite" (Not sure on spelling.)

First you run into Erudin so you don't waste a potion, and then you drink it, it'll last 30 minutes but will fade when you zone. It's one of the first buildings, up the stairs and you hail the Tomekeeper and do all the dialogue.

Hope that helps.

Have a question concerning red sash of order. Does this actually need to be done by the monk, or could another toon who is not kos in freeport do it and hand give the sash to my monk and then go from there.

AFAIK the monk does not have to be the one that makes the Red Sash of Order, but if you are a Human or a Drakkin you might as well. The epic is separate from the Ashen Order faction raised by doing the series of Sash of Order quests.

What is minimum level that the epic can be completed at? Because I have everything I need for my level 41 monk to finish it but I don't want the NPCs to eat my items and have to repeat all the camps again. I recall the minimum level for epics being 46 but i have heard varying minimums.

Umm... 1.0's can be done at 46+. There are certain epics that can/have been MQ'd to a lvl 1, such as a little lvl 1 Inky warrior who's always sitting in the bazaar on Prexus. The EFFECTS aren't useable to 51+ except in the case or worn effects. So, before you go spouting drivel about something you know nothing about... look/ask around, and don't make an **** of yourself by offering incorrect info.

Just to clear up the Trakanon 'book' encounter which I did last night:

Find Human Monk NPC Kaiaren in Trakanon's Teeth. First (insane) version hangs out in the Old Sebilis Ruins close to the location listed in the Bestiary (sic) post but he can wander and be stationary nearby.

You can hail and say 'Celestial Fists' and he gets weird and starts screaming. When you hand him the first book he hands THE SAME BOOK back to you and starts attacking. I killed him and he gave me the line about finding his true self.

You find his true self in a hut by the lake (location listed in Illias). You hand him the first book and he hands you the second version of the book and you can proceed with the dialog. He then tells you to go challenge Eejag etc.

The write-up here seemed confusing.

Aye, you don't have to cycle the items through the npc's. Just kill Eejag, give the scale to Gwan in sky, then that to Trunt, etc.

I don't know if the Astral Projection in OT responses (and vanishes) when told "I am the one" in response to its question, "Who are you?" But tonight, I tried telling it "I am no one." That worked, and it fits much better with his parting words about striving for nothingness and discarding one's ego.

I like to follow the story lines when I do quests, especially a quest as long and detailed as the epic. I have no problem with using information other people have posted, such as where to find mobs, which book (Immortals) the Tomekeeper is looking for, etc. But I'd really like to know how anyone figured out that Kaiaren has anything to do with the Celestial Fists, and why I'm supposed to hand that book to a madman after Lheao emphasised to me how important it is that the book not "fall into the wrong hands".

I tried some google searching but all the quest writeups I found just skip straight from Lheao to "go to Trak's Teeth and find Kaiaren." I couldn't locate any dialogue or book text or other hint that suggests why that NPC might be worth talking to.

Well, for a number of the steps in the original monk epic the phrase that was used in the old monkly-business website is that the first people to do this must have had "balls of steel" to be willing to risk all the work they had thus far completed as it WAS a big deal to do many of the steps at that time. I well remember open raids with 50+ people for the final fight with no thought it was overkill at all at all.

So last night i killed brother Z with a couple friends for the god knows how many times and got the robe. I now had the robe and both pipes and the book of immortals. I started on my adventure of completing the quest. I got to the point where i had to leave trakanons teeth and head to lavastorm to kill Eejag for the chared scale. I killed him got the scale and headed back to Trakanons teeth. Apon returning the "true form of Kaiaren" (where i had left him) was gone? Do i hand in the scales to the other one now? or do i even need to hand in the scales? Please let me know if anyone knows what i should do?

I ran into the same issue. I did all the solo-able parts, including talking to the two forms of Kaiaren (though I still want to know how anyone ever guessed this guy had anything to do with the monk epic), but then it was some days before I got a group together to fight Eejag, so Kaiaren's "true form" was long gone. I didn't want to give the mad Kaiaren the now-modified book to see if it would trigger the true form again, because giving either Kaiaren the modified book would start the final turn-in. So I tried simply not turning in the charred scale, but went on to Plane of Sky for the next fight, and that worked fine. That is, turning in the scale gives you only some dialog that tells you about the remaining fights; it does not modify the scale in any important way.

I admit that skipping the dialog step was vaguely unsatisfying. I might've tried handing the scale to the mad Kaiaren but decided to just move ahead. Does anyone know whether the mad Kaiaren says anything useful if given the charred scale?

Edit: Having finished the epic 1.0 a month or so back, I was passing through Lavastorm to visit the DON camps and happened to spot "a fire sprite", so I challenged Eejag again. Soloed him fairly easily at 65. Then I took the charred scale and tried giving it to the mad form of Kaiaren, and indeed, he responds the same as the "true form", telling me to proceed with air, then earth, then water.

LoIO Projection

While doing this for another monk, I was able to get onto the platform the final projection was on simply by swimming underneath his platform, then swimming straight up from under him. I used shrink stick twice before I did this. After testing this a few times, if you are at the edge of the platform, sink down and then you will be able to go under it. Move under the edge of the platform underwater, then look straight up and go forward and you will pop up on the platform - no levi required. I have run 8 and with sneak I am unable to do this, so run speed does matter, although I'm not sure how fast you have to go to get through.

Just killed Brother Qwin and Brother Z within half an hour of each other. No Robe Drops, might see about getting a MQ of the Robe of the Whistling Fists and Danl's Reference anyone know if that would work?
Killed Q at pos 840 neg 710.

Update 01-08-2006
went and camped raster and rock, handed in both items but i noticed that Qwinn was wearing the robe so i now have all the componets to the robe and a robe.

I read through ths and had thought I would really like to take a chance and spend some time on this quest. The item itself would be a small upgrade, but mainly was doing it for the heck of it. However once I actually start this quest I find out it is nothing but long tedious camp after long tedious camp. I killed about 25 named in skyfire with no book, so then I decided to start working on those sub quests. Of course I won't even mention the raster and it appears it can be a pain to spawn the brothers if you decide to just kill them. And even if you do spawn them it will probably take a entire group to kill him since he seems to be geared as a guildmaster mob that is not meant to be killed.

In any case I have said heck with this cause I have better things to do then sit and camp stuff forever.

You would have to currently using Ornate Leather Gloves for it to be only a slight upgrade. Is that what you use? The quest is otherwise worthwhile as it is one of the few still useful original epics.
