- In Dreadlands, a harbinger of frost can help adventurers get their epic 1.0 pieces that would normally drop from Gorenaire.
- In Skyfire Mountains, a harbinger of flame can help adventurers get their epic 1.0 pieces that would normally drop from Talendor.

Full Walkthrough

Power of the Orb

Rykas is a gnome in a yellow robe in Lake Rathetear, who may be found at approximately +950, -650.

You say, 'Hail, Rykas'

Rykas says 'Greetings ______, I am Rykas, chronicler of knowledge. I have journeyed all throughout the lands of Norrath, and I have learned many tales of adventure from people I have encountered during my travels. I have learned of legends known and unknown to most mortals. Are you in search of knowledge?'

You say, 'I am in search of knowledge.'

Rykas says 'A small task is needed if you wish to learn more. Do you wish to learn the tale of Magi'kot?'

You say, 'I wish to learn the tale of Magi'kot.'

Rykas says, 'If you seek to learn the tale of Trilith Magi'kot, your journey shall begin in the Commonlands. Search for Jahsohn Ak'sot and give him this token. He will share some of the knowledge I have bestowed upon him, and point you further down your path to Mastery. Bring me the Words of Mastery, Power of the Elements, and the Words of Magi'kot....Then you shall learn more about the power of the orb.'

You receive a Token of Mastery.

Words of Magi`kot

Now find Jahsohn Ak`sot (note slightly different spelling) in the western Commonlands, who wanders in the general vicinity of +60, +3640.

You say, 'Hail, Jahsohn Ak`sot'

Jahsohn Ak`sot says 'Greetings, ______.'

Give him the token.

Jahsohn Ak`sot says 'What is this? I cannot believe you found it! Where did you get this?'
You gain experience!!

You say, 'Rykas sent me.'

Jahsohn Ak`sot says 'I have not heard of anyone speaking that name out loud in years. Rykas once shared a tale with me, though I have lived with fear in my mind ever since. He told me afterwards that I did not have the balance I thought I had. Have you come for the Words of Magi'kot?'

You say, 'I have come for the Words of Magi'kot.'

Jahsohn Ak`sot says 'The Words of Magi'kot can only be shared with those elementalists whose minds are of balance. The Words were separated into three pieces by a high council of Magi who feared that the story would bring an end to elementalists throughout Norrath. If you feel you wish to read from the sacred Power of the Orb then an elementalist of such power should easily accomplish this task.'

You say, 'What task?'

Jahsohn Ak`sot says 'Bring me the torn pages of Magi'kot. The first section can be found in the depths of a tainted forest, warded by an angry lupine. It is also rumored that one section is found in the haunted estate of a murderer, on a many armed creature. The last may be found in the belly of an amphibian who thirsts for blood.'

You now need Torn Page(s) of Magi`kot pg. 1-3. Page 1 drops in Kithicor Forest from the level 40 Enraged Dread Wolf or dread wolf that spawns at night. Page 2 drops in the Estate of Unrest from the tentacle terrors and dark terrors found in the basement. Page 3 drops in Lower Guk from bloodthirsty ghouls and the frenzied ghoul. Give all three words to Jahsohn.

Jahsohn Ak`sot says 'Have you forgotten something, ______?'

Jahsohn Ak`sot says 'Have you forgotten something, ______?'

Jahsohn Ak`sot says 'Rykas may have been right about you, ______. Now, go find Walnan. Walnan was apprenticed to a very powerful Mage. After her apprenticeship was complete, she wished to begin teaching other beings of Norrath. Even those who knew nothing of the art! I do not believe she was successful, though. Seek her out to further your tale. Good luck in your journeys, ______!'

You receive the Words of Magi`kot.

Power of the Elements

Now find Walnan, a female high elf in purple in the Butcherblock Mountains. She wanders the path from the docks to Kaladim.

You say, 'Hail, Walnan'

Walnan says 'Hallo ______! I am Walnan, elementalist, summoner, wanderer, and sometimes teacher. Might you be a elementalist in search of the truth?'

You say, 'I am in search of the truth.'

Walnan says 'The truth is something not all people can handle or understand. If the truth of the elements is what you seek then the Power of the Elements shall reveal all. Have you come to learn of Magi'kot?'

You say, 'I have come to learn of Magi'kot.'

Walnan says 'Magi'kot was the most powerful elementalist of his age. He may have been the most powerful mortal mage of all time, such was his mastery. He wished to obtain infinite knowledge and wisdom in order to further expand the arcane art of Summoning. Do you know what became of Magi'kot?'

You say, 'No.'

Walnan says 'Only a few elementalists and followers outside our circle know what truly happened to Magi'kot. Even now, many are fearful to speak of his name. If you truly wish to continue, here is what you must do. Gather the Power of the Earth, warded by a fae creature. Then seek the Power of Fire, held by an elemental. Next you will need the Power of Wind, held by a twirling and prancing wanderer who has been corrupted. Finally, the Power of Water, held by a ravenous beast who is the minion of a fallen Sarnak. Bring them all to me, and I shall give you the Power of the Elements.'

The Power of Earth drops from A Fairy Guard in Lesser Faydark. The Power of Fire drops from blazing elementals and lava elementals in Solusek A, aka Solusek's Eye. The Power of Wind drops from A Gypsy Dancer in Mistmoore Castle, found in the ballroom of the castle. The Power of Water drops from various raveners in Kaesora. Give all four to Walnan.

Walnan says 'Wait, ______, are you not forgetting something?'

Walnan says 'Wait, ______, are you not forgetting something?'

Walnan says 'Wait, ______, are you not forgetting something?'

Walnan says 'The arcane art of Summoning is derived from the power of the elements which surround us. Continue your journey across the Ocean of Tears. In a dark fortress, you should find Akksstaf lurking about. Be wary, but tell him that you seek Magi'kot. Hurry now ______, you do not wish to miss the ship!'
You gain experience!!

You receive Power of the Elements.

Words of Mastery

The dark fortress Walnan spoke of is Najena, whose entrance is found in the Lavastorm Mountains. Akksstaff is a male dark elf in a green-brown robe who wanders Najena. He has a relatively long spawn time of anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days.

You say, 'Hail, Akksstaff'

Akksstaff says 'What do you want?! Foolish Human, I am in no mood to treat with beggars. I have half a mind to turn Jobober here loose on you! Well, don't keep me waiting, state your business or be off with you!'

You say, 'Tell me about Magi'kot.'

Akksstaff says 'Ah, that I can help you with. Magi'kot was a powerful elementalist, able to control the power of the elements which surrounded him. He was not able to fully master the elements when I was learning from him, but soon after my departure I heard rumors that he was going after the Orb of Mastery. At the time, I did not feel he was ready to harness all the elements, but Magi'kot listened to no one. He was in search of power beyond any held by a mortal. Do you wish to hear more?'

You say, 'I wish to hear more.'

Akksstaff says 'Then bring me the torn pages of Mastery, there are four pages that can be found upon the women In this keep, though have a care, Najena's followers guard her treasures carefully, and delight in punishing trespassers.'

The four pages drop randomly off various magicians, goblin magicians, Rathyl, Rathyl Incarnate (spawned after Rathyl is killed), etc., and may be found throughout Najena. Gather all four and give them to Akksstaff.

Akksstaff says 'Very well. Take these words back to that shriveled old gnome, Rykas, if you wish to complete this quest. Now leave me, ______, it sickens me to be this cordial for so long. And Jobober needs exercise. Go!'

You receive Words of Mastery.

Power of the Orb

Return to Rykas in Lake Rathetear, and give him Words of Magi`kot, Power of the Elements, and Words of Mastery.

Rykas says 'I see that you have completed the quest I laid before you. That speaks well of your dedication, yet you do not realize your journey has just begun. Study this tome.'
You gain experience!!

You receive Power of the Orb, which reads as follows:

"An elementalist's power comes from the Orb of Mastery. The Elements of Earth, Fire, Wind and Water are contained within the orb. The Master of Elements holds the Orb.

"He can be found within the Plane of Sky. No mortal has been able to contain the true power of the Orb.

"Trilith Magi'kot presented himself to the Master of Elements and the Orb of Mastery. The power of elements brought agony to his mind and body. Magi'kot was not of Balance.

"Fire burned his eyes unto blindness, Wind put his mind into a spin, Earth entered his body and aged him like the mountains, and finally, Water washed his memories of mortal life away.

"Failing his test, the Orb exacted its terrible price, and now Magi'kot is part of the Orb.

"The bearer of this tome should seek out the Master of Fire and present it to him, for there is much left to be revealed."

Element of Fire

The Master of Fire is Jennus Lyklobar, who may be found in Skyfire Mountains.

You say, 'Hail, Jennus Lyklobar'

Jennus Lyklobar says 'Hello and well met! Humans like you don't often come here.. Do you come seeking what I possess? Fire, fire, fire and fire is mine! I surround myself with fire, I bathe in fire, I consume fire, I am the Master of Fire! Hahahaha, but I digress. Have you come for the element of Fire, seeking to fall to the same fate as Trilith Magi'kot?'

You say, 'I have come for the element of Fire.'

Jennus Lyklobar says 'The Element of Fire I can provide you, but you must prove you are able to contain its power. Bring me the Torch of the Elements now kept by a doomed lord of merchants, the burning embers from a notable member of wurmkind who can be found a short journey from here and a blazing wand, which you should be familiar with. And you must surrender the tome Rykas gave you. But I think you would be happier if you stayed with me and learned more of the beauty of the one true element, FIRE! FIRE! Hahahahahahah!'

Obtain the following items: Torch of the Elements (dropped by Neh`Ashirr in City of Mist), Burning Embers (dropped by Phurzikon, Nezekezena, or Gylton, named wurms in Burning Woods), and Blazing Wand (dropped by Undertow in Kedge Keep). Give these three items along with Power of the Orb to Jennus.

Jennus Lyklobar says 'I see that you are well versed in the ways of Fire. Indeed, if you are as adept in the other, lesser elements, you may just seize the Orb of Mastery after all, and avoid Magi'kot's fate. Take this element, and guard it well, for more trials are to come, I assure you. Succeed and you shall be remembered always! Oh, and ______? Watch out for the puddles! HAHAHAHAHAHA!'
You gain experience!!

You receive Element of Fire.

Element of Earth

Seek out Tiblner Milnik in Firiona Vie. He's a male high elf in a brown robe wandering near the cliff.

You say, 'Hail, Tiblner Milnik'

Tiblner Milnik says 'Huh? What? Oh, you speak so fast, it took me a moment. I have become used to the slow and stately conversation the Earth holds, where a thought can span aeons. I am the Master of Earth, you know. Though I'm usually too humble to say this, that makes me the most powerful mortal in Norrath, as everyone knows that Earth is the only REAL Element, all else must give way before its power. Water is absorbed by it, Air is ignored by it, and Fire is contained in it. But you know all these things, I am sure. Are you interested in obtaining the Element of Earth? I know Magi'kot was, but we know what happened to him, don't we?'

You say, 'I have come for the element of earth.'

Tiblner Milnik says 'Combining the following items can bring the Element of Earth together. Obtain the Staff of Elemental Mastery: Earth, held by the minions of the Prince of Hate, The Dirt of Underfoot found on Slix something or the other, and of course, I shall need the Broom of Trilon and the Shovel of Ponz. Bring all these things, and I shall show you what a true Master of Earth can do, and gift you with the Element of Earth.'

The Staff of Elemental Mastery: Earth is an uncommon drop from one of the mini-bosses in the Plane of Hate, Magi P`Tasa. Dirt of Underfoot is a rare drop from Slixin Klex in the Burning Woods. The Broom of Trilon and Shovel of Ponz are the results of quests available through the Temple of Solusek Ro. Give all four items to Tiblner.

Tiblner Milnik says 'Take this Element and keep it with you. I wish you the best in your journey, but I must ask you to leave me now, this frantic pace you set makes me nervous.'
You gain experience!!

You receive Element of Earth.

Element of Water

Find Jinalis Andir, an erudite female in blue robes at approximately -600, -2000 in Dagnor's Cauldron.

You say, 'Hail, Jinalis Andir'

Jinalis Andir says 'Let us dispense with pleasantries, ______. I am Jinalis, as you know. I imagine you want to control the Elements. The Element of Water, which I possess, is the most powerful of the Elements. With it you can control the water which falls from the Air, erodes the Earth, and extinguishes Fire. It is a pity you do not focus on the Prime Element, but if you wish to follow that fool Magi'kot to your doom, I will not stop you. Bring me the Staff of Elemental Mastery: Water held by the last of the Kedge, the Tears of Erollisi held by a dirty and rotten officer across the Blessed Deep, and finally, the Rain of Karana, found on a mighty Giant in, where else, the Karanas.'

The Staff of Elemental Mastery: Water is a rare drop from Phinigel Autropos in Kedge Keep. Rain of Karana drops every time from Tarbul Earthstrider in Eastern Karana. He has a placeholder of "a rogue lion." Tears of Erollisi drop from Captain Rottgrime at the outpost in The Overthere. Give the three items to Jinalis.

Jinalis Andir says 'You have the control needed in order to manipulate the water which surrounds us. Take this Element and guard it well, you will need it in the times to come.'
You gain experience!!

You receive Element of Water.

Element of Wind

Find Kihun Solstin, a human male in white in the quest room below the first island in the Plane of Sky.

You say, 'Hail, Kihun Solstin'

Kihun Solstin says 'So, you have made it this far. I am Kihun Solstin, the Master of Wind. I control the unfettered Element like none other. As you should have learned, Air is the most potent of Elements. It fuels Fire, Water is comprised of it, and Earth cannot restrain it. Knowing this, do you seek the Element of Wind?'

You say, 'I seek the element of Wind.'

Kihun Solstin says 'I will test you then. In this wondrous plane of Air [editor's note: now Sky], find the Crown of Elemental Mastery, and search the world below for an Elemental Binder, and a cloak fashioned from the feathers of a Pegusus. Return them to me and I shall give you the Element of Wind.'

The Crown of Elemental Mastery is a rare drop from any mob on the seventh island in the Plane of Sky. Elemental Binders drop from Elemental Warriors in The Hole. The Pegasus Feather Cloak is a very rare drop from a rare spawn, Quillmane, found in Southern Karana. By all accounts this is the most difficult piece to get. Give the three items to Kihun.

Kihun Solstin says 'If you have obtained the other, lesser Elements, go speak with The Master of Elements, who is now waiting for you. I wish you luck. If you have not completed all the tasks set for you, let me know, and I shall let you see the Master.'
You gain experience!!

You receive Element of Wind.

Orb of Mastery

After receiving the Element of Wind, Master of Elements will spawn in the Plane of Sky. If for some reason he has despawned, you can always get him to respawn by talking to Kihun Solstin and saying, "I want to see the master."

You say, 'Hail, Master of Elements'

Master of Elements says 'I... am... the... Master... of... Elements.. Elements... Forgive... me. I am... unaccustomed.. to.. speaking.. this.. mortal... tongue. Might.. you... be... the... One?'

You say, 'I am the One'

Master of Elements says 'Trilith... Magi'kot.. knelt.. before.. the.. orb.. in.. his.. his.. last.. few.. moments... of.. mortal.. life. He... too... believed.. that.. he.. had.. the.. power.. and.. balance.. needed.. to.. grasp... control.. of.. the.. elements. He.. was.... flawed. Coming.. to... me... is.. a.. matter.. of.. no.. small.. import. Only.. only... one.. who.. is.. of.. balance.. and.. power... power.. may.. control.. the.. Orb.. of... Mastery. Give.... give.. me.. the.. Elements.. you.. have... gathered.. and.. I.. shall.. see.. if.. you.. are.. ready.. ready.. to control.. the... Elements.. of... life.. life.. life.'

Give it the Element of Fire, the Element of Earth, the Element of Water, and the Element of Wind.

Master of Elements says 'You... are.. balanced... and.. powerful.. for.. a.. mortal... ______ ..... ______ . More.. so.. than.... Magi'kot. But.... you.. are.. not.. yet.. ready.. to.. transcend.. transcend... this.. mortal.. coil. Take.. take.. seize.. this.. Orb... for.. you.. are.. worthy.. of.. reward.. and.. with... the.. aid.. of... the... balance.. balance.. contained.. within.. the.. Orb.. you.. may.. yet.. reach.. the... ultimate... Mastery.'

You receive Spell: Summon Orb. Scribe it immediately and cast it to summon your new epic weapon, the Orb of Mastery.

I am about to do this quest once my Mage hits 51 or so.
Maybe I should just do the 1.5 prequest? Haha.

Drop rates are just ridiculous

SoE really has it out for the mages. I just hope that one day drops rates on some of the items are increased.

I've been working on epic so far 3weeks and I haven't gotten all the pieces at the start of the quest yet. I've camped blazing eles for the power of fire for at least 17hrs so far and nothing (my toon is a lvl 60 mag). I've also camped Slix and the wurms for the burning embers for 10hrs.

I just wanted to rant, continue on.

The item I seek, Mastery of Water, apparently does NOT drop anymore. It's been FIVE FREAKING HUNTS. Thanks to the boneheads with the idea that their customers LOVE all the **** drops now, key epic items are not dropping. LET ME REPEAT THAT: KEY EPIC ITEMS ARE NOT FREAKING DROPPING.

This "The four pages drop randomly off various magicians, goblin magicians, Rathyl, Rathyl Incarnate (spawned after Rathyl is killed), etc., and may be found throughout Najena. Gather all four and give them to Akksstaff." is *********

Ya deserve coal in ur stockings, but best I can do is God bless each and every one of you that work for SoE's EQ division.

It takes time get these items. I went and found Phini up and he droped the staff of water on first kill, what a luccy day. It took me a few days of mass wiping the mage's in Najeena to finally get my 4 pages. Took about 3 days to get the B.embers, I got the PoFire in about 5 spawn cycles of the blazing Ele's. Hate I have yet to see and Sky I cant find someone who will take the DT"s for me hehe. But its all obtainable still just have to have patience and keep trying.

The pages an be a hastle to find. But they can be easy. Took me 20 minutes on my mage, 40 on my wifes, and about 4 hours on a friends. My suggestion... find a lucky friend and have them do this with you....
Stupid People bother me....
# Feb 27 2008 at 7:28 AM Rating: Decent
I spent SEVEN hours in Najena yesterday... I got the first two pages *fire and earth* within twenty minutes. Air dropped in the next half hour so I figured it wouldn't be that bad seeing as I have been incredibly lucky so far having mobs be there when I seek them and drops coming almost always the first time. Oh how I was wrong! Hahaha the best way I found to do this was to have a friend help you, run through in opposite directions, get the lay of the land and then pull EVERYTHING into the big open area between the two enterances and just slaughter. Search the piles of bodies and repeat until you come up with it. I do mean everything, skeletons in piles on the floor need to die, we overlooked those for the first couple hours because we read that the pages drop of various MAGICIANS, so kill magicians of every type *goblin, necromancer, dark elf mage plus the named big guys* and all skeletons especially darkbones. Seriously just pull every mob you can and kill them all repeatedly. Make a circuit and run through over and over until you get it.

And try to get a friend to go with you. Its much better when you arent alone seeing that this is a tedious boring and time consuming task.

And this isnt even the EPIC yet is it? Ugh!

I got all four pages in Najena last week.

It look a long time - killing all magicians, bosses, goblins and dark bones.

Did you kill them ALL on a regular rotation?

Yeah, for ages no pages dropped. Then got fire and earth.

Then fire and earth kept dropping.

Then finally got the last two.

It's a long haul. GL! Keep hunting, it's not broken. This is a massively hard epic, that's all.

It's possible something has been broken, but I recently finished the mage epic and had no problems getting it to drop. I did do that part a few months earlier, so it could be broken, but I'm guessing you just need to kill some more. I had the entire spawn rotation (all of them, including gobbies) perfectly timed and I was there for forever and a day before I got them all. I believe the water page was also my kryptonite. I got each other page about 4 times before I got that one and they only seemed to drop once every hour or two.

The mage epic is nothing but rare spawns with rare drops. The whole quest is like this, so get ready for some fun, lol.

Update to the Element of Fire part of it (which I'll also post under Jennus Lyklobar's info). If you turn in those three items, and he gives you nothing, it's because you need to ALSO turn in the Power of the Orb (the scroll Rykas gave you earlier). Far as I can tell, no one seems to have posted that, but he DOES require it.

From a mage that has been playing since "back in the day" this pet has been left pretty much unchanged since its creation. This being said, this pet is the best pet a mage can use until they get to there WoX at 61. I would highly reccomend any and all young mages to finish this quest as early in there levels as possible, use the pet until you get to 61 and enjoy the great times while they last.
Focused Epic Pet?
# Aug 02 2006 at 11:35 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I'm a bit curious now. People keep mentioning that you can focus your epic pet (like you can with the normal pets via lesser focus items/staves of elemental mastery). What's the focus item you use then, if it's summoned off your epic? Just curious cause I'm working on epic now on my mage alt and would like to get the focus item for her too.

You could start in your teens and work from there, but you need to be 46 to get up to Plane of Sky for the final turn-ins. I started at 24 in Nanjena to get the 1st 4 focus items (you only need 2 of them, but hey they rock 'til 50) and the pages.

Aquiring my last few pices

Lonley female mage here(Erollsi Marr) I have determined myself to obtaining this epic WAy before the pet and the item is obsolete so since i was 44 mage i have attempted to obtain most of my pieces i still require the torch, rain of karana,Water mastery staff, and the crown of elly mastery. ANd the most Annoying piece of them all Power of fire.... as i have camped this same two spawns for 2 weeks straight after work with no success was curious if anyone was avaible to assist me or give me some helpful advise. i am 48 mage now and would like to maybe get the last of these items before 50 thanks

advice on Power of Fire... leave the blazing elementals alone and go for the Lava Elemental. i camped the blazing for nearly 3 weeks. i camped the Lava Elemental for a couple days (at a couple hours per night) and got my Power of Fire. for the Crown of Elemental Mastery, i got off pretty easily. a necro friend of mine solo'd the 7th island and got me the crown. i think he said he killed 4 mobs, or went through 4 cycles... most likely was 4 mobs, as he was only there for about 30-45 minutes. probably got lucky, but it really can be that easy.

this whole quest isn't really as hard as some people wanna make it seem. i had the Pegasus Feather Cloak MQ'd for me by a guildmate, so i can't really say anything for it... but there are strategies out there to make it very easy (or so it seems).

get the Orb of Mastery at, or around lvl 50 and be very happy for a while.
the Epic Pet is amazing. each Orb of Mastery only has one charge to summon the pet, but you can destroy the orb and summon a new one, as the mage's Epic 1.0 is the spell Summon: Orb of Mastery, not the actual weapon.

i've tested the Epic Pet's performance against the lvl 61 summon Ward of Xegony, and the Epic Pet, though a lvl 50 summon, is head and shoulders above the WoX, and i expect the same will be true for all pets up to lvl 65.

a little strategy with the Orb of Mastery, in case bad things happen. when you summon the orb and call your pet, destroy the orb and resummon it. you've got a backup pet waiting to be summoned and don't have to wait for the spell gem to pop. keep an extra set of weapons handy, and try to have an extra Muzzle of Mardu available as well. pet kits are fun, but really, the only thing you'll need is spell haste and reduced mana cost for your pet (one is a bracelet, one is a ring, i believe. may be wrong)... and any of the belts.
always, always, always keep burnout and kindle (once you get it) on your pet and do not, for any reason, not get the lvl 55 aura for your pet (Earthen Strength). 5% str is very nice, and affects any pet within range. people will love you for adding to the damage output of their pets by buffing yours.

this got longer than i had hoped, so i'm done.

this much shorter due to me typing a lot of my experience and hitting post message... and it failing... doh...

I MQ multiple itmes on this; burning wand, first two subquests, torch, earth staff, phini staff

The quillmane 78sec timer thing was how i got a couple of the lev cloaks... it worked fine, just finding the right spawn.

Phini sucked. Have a load of kedge robes, couple backbones and a wizzy wand to MQ if anyone needs.

Pet ROCKS! hehe.

killing Phinny
# Nov 02 2005 at 3:22 PM Rating: Decent
If you are having problems getting a group to kill phinny, you can solo him easy enough if you can pull him to the zone.

I have killed phinny solo with my 66 enchanter and another time solo with a wizard. For the enchanter I just dire charmed a sea horse and took it to the zone in and bound there, Gaurd your pet at zone in and head to phinnys room and pacify the seahorses surrounding him. Then pulled him with tash and gate back to the zone in. In about 1-2 minutes he will make it to the zone in, just root and nuke while pet chews on him(keep your runes up)
Then come back 10-14 hours later and kill again if your part doesnt drop. I have killed him 20+ times and he spawns every 12 hours, +/- 2 hours.
and with your enchanter you may get the rod of mana tapping, if you plan on killing him alot you can use this to make him a wimp fast. It is an instant cast drain mana with 7 charges so when you pull him to zone just spam cast the rod till its empty and he will be out of mana and wont be able to cast on you which makes him uber easy because a wizard with no mana is a pushover.
For the wizard I bind at zone the same as enchanter and go to the phinny room and this time i just pull him and gate, when he comes to the zone the seahorses will be there too so root phinny while your rune is on and zone out. wait about 30 seconds and zone back and phinny should be there alone and the seahorses will have gone home since they were not rooted. then its just a matter of dumping your ae rain spells that are fire based just make sure you are out of the range of the rain so you dont nuke yourself to death. I have done this again since veteran abilities went live and that just makes it easier when you use the max stats ability cause when your saves are all 500 he cant get a spell off on you.

I also come here to farm the rods for dragon raids. Burning a rod on Trackanon makes him a wimp as well but make sure your fully runed and a cleric tied to your hip because he will hate you for a few minutes after that till the warrior can get agro back, but a few casts of boggle will set him straight. But after rapeing him of over 2k mana he is much easier.
Anyway, back to phinny. I parked all my toons at the entrance to kedge and killed phinny about 20 times and got my mage the staff, my wizard got the staff he needs, my bard has his spine, and I have a few items banked for MQ for guildies and have even done it for other people that were stuck on that part for free( they normally thow me a few K anyway but I didn't ask them for payment.

I have seen mention of the better stats of the 'augmented' or 'focused' epic pet... could someone explain?

Is that an AA ability or item focus?

I am looking for the info for my leveling Mage.

Thank you.

mage epic question....
# Aug 13 2005 at 10:08 AM Rating: Decent
The Power of Wind drops from A Gypsy Dancer in Mistmoore Castle, found in the ballroom of the castle.

Since they changed Mistmoore into a High end Raid zone, is this piece still there? or did they change it?

I can honestly say, that having completed the epic, finally after a lot of suffering, I feel a bit let down by Sony. I started this quest at level 58, and completed it at level 67. I am glad to have it all done, and will proudly summon my epic, but the pet is pretty weak compared to the new ones post 65... I know that when this epic was created, it was the bomb, but now it is kind of dissapointing, I would love to see SOE give us a break, and maybe grant the orb a focus effect maybe? Well all in all, the orb is a nice weapon, I am proud to wear it. I wish it didn't take quite so long to cast it though, (about 15 minutes of sitting memmed in the book before the spell pops up for casting)

completing this at 67 is just a waste of time, even the lvl 61 Air pet is better than the epic one, Epic 1.0 were introduced with Kunark, thats the First Expansion of Eq, and epic 1.0 is ment to be used between lvl 50 and 60 basicly.

Back when kunark and Velious were new, getting from 50 to 60 would take months, not days like it does now.

If the epic pet was comparable to 66+ pets, it would be very overpowered at level 50. Personally I'm keeping my Mage at 55 for the forseeable future, where Fluffy is pretty effective and can solo a lot of dark blue mobs without taking a lot of damage.

Thx :)
Has anyone done this since the revamp of MistMoore?
# May 02 2005 at 10:26 AM Rating: Decent
Is the Gypsy Dancer now outside in Lfay or do you still have to find her inside? If so, that complicates this quest considerably.

The gypsy dancer is in one of the orc camps in lesser faydark. On the map it is the spot marked as 11
Edited because my post is now outdated. Since mistmore and Lesser faydark is returned to their previous state. The gypsy dancer should now again be inside mistmore.

The whole 46er
# Nov 03 2004 at 10:04 PM Rating: Default
This entire epic can be done before the mage is Lvl. 46 (except for the turn ins and the two Planar drops). Once a mage hits 46, they should/could only need the 1 PoHate drop and 1PoSky drop to finish their epic and voila, a Lvl.46Epiced Mage. I myself have queasted every piece thus far and only require the Power Of Fire to be done with it (except for, of course, the two Planes drops and turn ins).

My only question is why is this epic so much easier than others? As I said, it can pretty much be done before Lvl. 46 with no ~~major~~ fights required, but for, say, the enchanter's epic, you need a moderately sized/leveled group to get eh Chardok head and the Shissar Head, or for the Cleric' epic, a good group for the dragons in Skyshrine... This, from what I've seen, is the easiest epic of them all to do...

Well for one, one of these easy before level 46 tasks is to kill Phinigel Autropos enough times to get him to drop the staff. This is NOT accomplished solo by a level 46 mage no matter what, that is a fact. On top of that the earth staff requires that you kill a lot of trash in PoHate which take a long time if you don't have the powerful pets of the 50's and beyond or the powerful solo spells. The wind part now only requires a trip to lfay and you're done with that when you used to have to go deep into MM and that is still risky enough to take some time. And on top of all the other parts of this quest there is quillmane. Most certainly I'd want to level a druid or ranger to about level 30 to even attempt it. There are lvl 70 mages who have just counted out the epic until they got bored of their nukes never hitting and pets causing too much problems in groups that will get quillmane in a second if he's up and most likely will be camping him at any given time on any server unless they find one to buy.

If you leveled up a mage hitting all the low level points to the quest and some how got lucky enough to catch quillmane at any given time you would still have water staff, crown of elements, and earth staff left. And saying that means any lvl 46 mage that is at this juncture will basically end up paying out the *** for all of these or will need friends who are semi high level or very very very high level and skilled to help them get the crown. Perhaps the price of the crowns left in the game will go down eventually but really as long as there are powerleveled lvl 70 mages in the game looking for one more quest to complete unless you are a special case there is no chance of a mage getting their epic at lvl 46 or even close.

As a wizard it's pretty much impossible to get epic now since it requires a raid to fear and at any given time 2 groups of lvl 70's can mess up a bit, aggro CT or golems and get death touched to hell and be on a long CR but I think I'd still pick mine over the long camps and runs mages have to go on and more than likely beginning 2005 the number of mage epics that will ever be completed is very close to the number of crowns that are already in the game, no one is going that deep in sky for the crown unless they need it and can get it and most of the bored people that would help a mage get that deep in PoSky have moved on to WoW or some other such nonsense by now...

I understand where your coming from, but you must realize this epic was made in the Kunark Era. At the time, this was the most difficult of all epics to complete.

The magician epic was a HUGE time sink. The entire quest is made up of rare drops from rare spawns, whereas most guilds were competing for the same mobs at the time.

Phinigel Atropos took 16 kills before i recieved a staff. Magi P'Tasa took me 4 full out hate raids (Before Revamp), A 3 Day(Yeah 3 day long) PoSky raid to get to the 7th Isle for my crown. Torch of the Elements used to require a full raid through CoM(before revamp). And Quillmane took me over 100+ hours of camping for the cloak. All are rare drops from rare mobs.
Its not as if most of these were soloable at the time, either. Phinigel took 18+ people to kill him safely. PoSky we were looking at 50+ for 3 days, before the raid function was available.

If your looking at this from a PoP or Omens standpoint, all epics are easy to complete. If your looking back to the times when it was useful, it was rare and almost impossible to get.

Well, if you get the epic when you can use it (level 51), it's quite useful. In fact, it's useful up to level 60 mobs unfocused, level 61 mobs focused, and yes, I do mean MORE USEFUL THAN ANY OTHER PET. Period. That means more tanking and more dps combined. That's for pets below 66, that is. I came around when the level cap was still 60 (Velious). Thems were the days, I tell ya! :D

Yeah, I just got my Mage's epic at 55... very nice at that level, able to solo a dark blue in Dulak and only lose 5-30% health. Light blues and greens' health bars drop to zero in a few seconds.

Admittedly, though, if I'd put the time I spent doing the epic into XP grinding I'd be 70 by now :).

That's when you turn in one, but you don't turn in the others. NPCs used to do that even when you turned them all in at once (for each item for the quest). I'm not completely sure if they still do.
