Requesting the Expedition: High Priest Diru Riwirn (Progression)

If this is your first time doing this Sewers zone, you can request this expedition as part of Gates of Discord Progression by speaking with High Priest Diru Riwirn (click for map image). Doing this will result in a flag at the end of the expedition.

You say, 'Hail, High Priest Diru Riwirn'

High Priest Diru tells you, 'Our sewer system was an integral part of the city before the great explosion. After the sewer system was deserted by most Taelosians, many of the processes that occurred below the city ceased to work. In the sewers, many insects, animals, and other slimy diseased creatures thrive. Take this seal. I know that Alej is very timid and may think you are there to harm him unless he sees something familiar from you. Please be careful while you're down there and be on the look out for cave-ins.'

You receive "Seal of the Nihil High Priest".

The direction to the entry to your instanced zone(s) have been marked on your compass.
Sewers of Nihilia, Lair of the Trapped Ones is now available to you.

Requesting the Expedition: Gamesh (Non-Progression)

If you've already done progression or are otherwise not concerned about it, speak with Gamesh (click for map image) at /loc -385, -710, -120:

You say, 'Hail, Gamesh'

Gamesh says 'I don't know why you would want to, but if you want me to tell you the way to one of the different areas of the sewers let me know. I know how to get to the treatment [plant], [crematory], [pools] of sludge, or the [lair] of trapped ones.'

You say, 'I'd like to go to the lair of trapped ones'

Gamesh leans in closely to whisper, 'Okay, listen closely...'

The direction to the entry to your instanced zone(s) have been marked on your compass.
Sewers of Nihilia, Lair of the Trapped Ones is now available to you.

Named Mobs

Named mobs that have a chance to spawn here:

Blistering Larva
Rigara the Lost
Sludge-Eating Fly

It's reported a named has a chance to spawn after every 20 mob kills. Note that the map above only reflects known spawn areas of these nameds. It's possible that they have other spawn locations.

Expedition

General mob population here tend to hit for a max ~1,250. Note that the golems are unslowable.

Here, you need to make your way to the far northwestern room of the zone where you'll find Alej Leraji, a Nihil buried under a rock and partially underwater. As you approach his area, you see:

As you approach this room, shrieks and cries of agony echo through your thoughts. There appears to be hanging cots and small beds laid out in this room. Who or what lived down here? Perhaps the workers of this place were trapped and forgotten, just like that mysterious machine. Abandoned by their family and friends, they are merely spirits now, angry because they have been forsaken.

You say, 'Hail, Alej Leraji'

Alej Leraji in a raspy, tired voice says, 'Who are you? What are you doing here?'

NOTE: He requires the "Seal of the Nihil High Priest" given by High Priest Diru Riwirn as part of progression. This item isn't believed to be obtainable unless you are at that specific point in progression. If you requested this expedition from Gamesh, you won't be able to technically "finish" the expedition, but you'll still be able to exp here and spawn named mobs.

Hand him the "Seal of the Nihil High Priest":

Alej Leraji looks at the clay seal and with a tired breath says, 'I see you have the seal, you are trustworthy. I need your help, for I don't know if I can survive much longer. I will need my stone shaping tools to get me out of this rocky prison. Please tell me when you [find my three stone shaping tools] and make haste! I left them in the water wheel room, the cocoon room, and the entrance to this section of the sewers. I have little time left.'

At this time, most mobs in the zone despawn and some respawn in certain areas (including Alej's room). NOTE: This starts a 60-minute timer. Tools need to be collected and you need to return to Alej Leraji within 60 minutes, or you fail.

He won't be tricked, if you try to tell him before you actually have them:

Alej Leraji says, 'I don't see any tools. Please acquire my three tools so I can escape this collapsed prison!'

You'll want to head to three different rooms in the zone, killing mobs in each until you get emotes: The water wheel room (southwestern room); the cocoon room (far southeastern room); and the entrance to Alej's section of the sewers.

The "water wheel room" is located due south of Alej's room. You'll see this emote upon entering the room:

An ancient machine churns here with a silent hum. Curiosity sets in as you are entranced by the elegant motion of this machine. What is its purpose? What is it doing here? More than likely it served an important job in the sewers in the past. Now, it is just a silent beast with a forgotten function, much like the rest of this place.

...And this emote upon success (random upon kills):

As the nihil spirit falls, you catch a glimpse of an item in the corner of the room. You have acquired [Alej's Stone Breaking Powder Bag].

The "cocoon room" is located in the far southeastern part of the zone. You'll see this emote upon entering the room:

You receive an eerie feeling as you enter this room. Cocoons on the ceiling are likely the cause of the over-abundance of insects inhabiting the sewers. This environment in the sewers seems to perpetuate the growth of these slimy creatures. Tread with caution.

...And this emote upon success (random upon kills):

The bug falls to the ground, revealing an item that seemed like it wasn't there before. You have acquired [Alej's Stone Shaping Sceptre].

The "entrance to this section of the sewers" is the zone-in area (here, you'll have to kill golems). You'll see this emote upon entering the room:

The water before you seems more viscous compared to clean water, indicative of the lack of maintenance this area has seen in the past few years. The cold sewage water feels slimy to the skin, the sensation sends crawls up your spine. Shall you delve further?

...And this emote upon success (random upon kills):

You hear a large thud as the golem crashes down on the hard stone floor. As the dust settles, a sparkle of an item appears in the front of the room. You have acquired [Alej's Stone Melding Orb].

Once you've gotten all three emotes, return to Alej Leraji and tell him (exactly as you see it here):

You say, 'I have found your three stone shaping tools'

Alej Leraji uses his stone shaping tools to lessen the grasp the stone prison had on his body. In an extremely hasty motion he leaps from under the rocks. Alej Leraji tells you, 'Thank you for helping me out of this situation. For a while I thought I was going to be joining the rest of the spirits here an in eternal slumber, but that is not the case now. Thank you! .' A burst of light flashes before your eyes and Alej disappears.

If doing the progression version of this expedition, you also see:

You have gained a character flag! All of High Priest Diru's tasks have been completed. He will now tell you who to talk to for passage through the mountains.

Requires dubious or better faction to Nihil or Slaves for Alej to respond.

Can use Taelosian Morphemic Staff to raise faction.

Have your bard, sk, necro request this event and then run to the trigger mob. The group can wait outside of the entrance room so they don't get full agro when the respawn happens. Kill 2-5 mobs in each of the 3 spots until you get the emote. Then have your bard, sk, necro etc run to the trigger mob and say the phrase.

It can take awhile to clear to Alej the first time because of the mix of regular and undead mobs (so can't just invis straight to him), but once you talk to him almost the entire zone depops, so it is not a big deal to run from room to room. Watch your emotes though; you don't get actual items to turn in.
