Full Walkthrough
  • Visit Baldric Slezaf, located inside a pyramid at +775, +9665, around the portal area of the Dreadlands.

    You say, 'Hail, Baldric Slezaf'

Baldric Slezaf says 'Hello. Don't you think this would be a wonderful place to perform a symphony?'

    You say, 'What symphony?'

Baldric Slezaf says 'It has been my dream for years to perform a symphony that would be remembered for ages to come. I have run into a few minor snags, however.'

    You say, 'What snags?'

Baldric Slezaf says 'Several years ago I bought sheets of the most beautiful sounding music from a traveling merchant. He did not know the author of the work as it was simply signed 'the Maestro'. The melody I played from them was wondrous and invoked feelings in me I have never felt before. However, as I reached the middle of the music, I discovered it was missing two pages!'

    You say, 'What pages?'

Baldric Slezaf says 'The pages that were missing were pages 24 and 25. I have been searching the world for a spot to hold my symphony and I have finally found it. Without the music and a new lute crafted by the famous instrument maker Forpar Fizfla, I do not think I can pull it off.'

You say, 'Who is Forpar Fizfla?'

Baldric Slezaf says 'Forpar Fizfla is an eccentric instrument maker from Ak'Anon. He makes enchanted instruments that enhance the sound of the music. If I am to perform the concert of all concerts, I must have one of his instruments. I went to Ak'Anon, seeking to purchase an instrument from him but he wouldn't even speak to me.'

    You say, 'What music?'

Baldric Slezaf says 'It makes me sad to know that the pages of this music may be spread across the world or destroyed. If you find and bring me the two missing sheets as well as a new lute, I would be happy to repay you in some way.'

You say, 'How will you repay me?'

Baldric Slezaf pulls a fantastic looking sword from its scabbard and says, 'I might be willing to part with this wonderful sword if I were able to perform this symphony. You would also gain recognition at the opening of the symphony.' Baldric sheathes his sword and begins to hum a haunting melody.

  • Baldric Slezaf wants these four items:

    1) First Half of Page 24
    2) Second Half of Page 24
    3) Page 25
    4) Lute made by Forpar Fizfla

  • To get top part page 24 go to West Karana and see Konia Swiftfoot, who may be found inside a guard tower at -500, -2400. She gives you a Torch of Misty and starts a race. Take the torch to Fajio Knejo in Misty Thicket (close to the wall guards). He gives you a Torch of Ro. Then take that torch to Andad Filla in South Ro (close to innothule zone) who gives you a Torch of Rathe. Then take that torch to Misty Tekcihta in Lake Rathetear (by the Arena zone). This will get you Proof of Speed. Finally, take this back to Konia Swiftfoot and you will get the top part of page 24.

  • You say, 'Hail, Konia Swiftfoot'

Konia Swiftfoot says 'Hello there, ______. I am hosting a relay running contest. Would you like to participate?'

You say, 'I would like to participate.'

Konia Swiftfoot says 'Great! The prize will be this silly old music sheet. Let me know when you are ready and I will pass you the torch and tell you where the first stop is.'

    You say, 'I am ready.'

Konia Swiftfoot says 'Here you go. Run with this torch as fast as you can to the misty thicket and hand this torch off to Fajio Knejo. He will tell you where to go from there. Hurry! You do not have much time!'

You have entered The Misty Thicket.

    You say, 'Hail, Fajio Knejo'

Fajio Knejo says 'Greetings, ______. I hope you are having a fine day.'

Fajio Knejo says 'Run onward, my friend, to the far off Desert of Ro and give this torch to Andad Filla.'

    You gain experience!!
    You gain experience!!

You have entered South Desert of Ro.

    You say, 'Hail, Andad Filla'

Andad Filla says 'Hello, traveler, please do not bother me right now. I am waiting for someone.'
Andad Filla says 'You still have a way to go! Seek out Misty Tekcihta near the arena at Lake Rathe. Run like the wind!'

    You gain experience!!
    You gain experience!!

    You have entered Lake Rathetear.

    You say, 'Hail, Misty Tekcihta'
Misty Tekcihta smiles and taps her foot.
Misty Tekcihta hands you a small ring.

    You gain experience!!

Konia Swiftfoot says 'Excellent! You are quite a runner. Here is half of the sheet music. I decided to keep the other half because it has this wonderful signature. I think it might be quite valuable. It is probably worth as much as an instrument the great Mahlin used.'

    You gain experience!!

  • To get the bottom half, you need to give Konia Swiftfoot Mahlin's Mystical Bongos. Talk to Baenar Swiftsong at location -15, +100 in South Karana. He will give you an invoice after you ask "what doll?". Go to Solusek A and give the gnome vendor Marfen the invoice and you will receive a doll. Take the doll to the Estate of Unrest and find Serra (next to the gnomish spelunker):

    You say, 'Hail, Serra'

Serra says 'H..h..hello? Can you help me? I lost [something] and I need it so I can go back home.'

    You say, 'Something?'

Serra says 'I never got my doll for my birthday. Before he could bring it to me I was h..hurt by the bad man. I cannot leave without my doll. Will you please help me?'

    You say, 'What doll?'

Serra claps her hands. 'Oh goody! But... I cannot seem to remember his name. He gave me this note before I...'

    You say, 'What note?'

Serra says 'I hope it will help you out. Please find him so I can leave this place?'

  • You receive a Ripped Qeynos Bards Guild Flyer.

  • Give her the Mechanical Doll:

Serra says 'Oh! You have the dolly! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I can go home now. Please give this to my father, Baenar. He will understand when he gets it.' Serra begins to fade away. 'Bye bye!''

  • You receive a Note for Baenar.

  • Take the note to Braenar, who will give a new note for Maligar. Take the note from Braenar to Maligar, who is in West Karana at loc 1200, -10900. Maligar's Enraged Doppleganger will attack at this point (bring a group). Kill the Doppleganger and loot his head. Take the head back to Braenar and receive "Mahlin's Mystical Bongos". Take the bongos to Konia Swiftfoot in West Karana to get the bottom of Page 24.

  • To get Page 25 go to South Karana and talk to the wood elf bard named Kelkin Mekia.

    You say, 'Hail, Kelkim Menkia'

Kelkim Menkia sighs as she looks over her lute. 'My lute was mangled by those damnable gnolls! I have no idea how I'm going to get a new set of strings for it. They were so rare.'

You say, 'Why are they so rare?'

Kelkim Menkia says 'I only use the finest lute strings on my lute. My uncle got them for me from across the world. His name was Zendrik the Wurmslayer. As his name implies, he killed many wurms and drakes. The strings for my lute were all made from the guts of the wurms and drakes he slew.

You say, 'What wurms and drakes?'

Kelkim Menkia says 'The strings were from a chromodrac, a red wurm and a huge onyx drake. It always sounded so wonderful.' Kelkim sighs, looking off to the horizon. As she shakes her lute angrily, she says, 'I'll kill all of you dirty gnolls!'

  • Find these three items and give them to her to receive Page 25:

    Chromodrac Gut
  • (dropped by Eldrig the Old, a named chromodrac in Skyfire)
    Red Wurm Gut
  • (dropped by Nezekezena, a named wurm in the Burning Woods)
    Onyx Drake Gut
  • (dropped by Blackwing, an onyx drake in Rathe Mountains)

Kelkim Menkia snatches the gut strings from your hand and immediately begins to string her lute. 'This is wonderful, I will be able to play my lute again soon! Take this old sheet of music I found - I don't think I will have much use for it. My new desire is to bash gnoll heads in with my lute. Safe travels to you, Kenayne.'

    You gain experience!!

  • Now you need Forpar's Lute. This is rewarded as head, body and strings.

  • First you need to get horn from Ocean of Tears (Alluring Horn from Quag Maelstrom). Take the alluring horn from Ocean of Tears to Vedico Windwisper, a half elf bard in Butcherblock, by the docks.

  • Vedico Windwisper says, 'Hello, _____. Have you seen the port master? I am here to complain about the shoddy service.'

    You say, 'what shoddy service?'

Vedico Windwisper says, 'I was sailing from Freeport on one of the boats when a giant cyclops attacked the boat! No one lifted a finger as he stole the horn I was playing and ran off. Someone here has to answer for the loss of my horn.'

You offered 1 Alluring Horn to Vedico Windwisper.

Vedico Windwisper says, 'Where did you find this? I thought the cyclops took it. I am in your debt, SoAndSo. This horn has always been special to me.' Vedico reaches into her pack and pulls out a note. 'Do you think you could deliver this to my gnome friend Forpar. I have not spoken to him in a while and unfortunatly I will be unable to make the trip to visit him. If you are looking to have an instrument made, he is the man to ask.'

You receive Note to Forpar Fizfla in your inventory.

  • Take the note she gives you to Forpar. He then gives you a note and a list of items he needs:

  • Forpar Fizfla says, 'Get out, you pesky Wood Elf! I don't need any Wood Elf germs! Out, ye filthy beast!'

You offered 1 Note to Forpar Fizfla to Forpar Fizfla.

Forpar Fizfla says, 'So you know Vedico! How is the lass? If Vedico would give you the time of day, you must be something special. What can I do for you? I hope you have not come to have me make another [mystical instrument].'

    You say, 'mystical instrument'

Forpar Fizfla says, 'I have made many mystical instruments in the past. Each one seemed to be better than the last. I have always had a dream of building the world's best lute, but I have yet to find someone brave enough to gather the [components] needed to make the instrument.'

    You say, 'components'

Forpar Fizfla says, 'To make a mystical lute I will first need to make several pieces. If you bring me the backbone of an ancient fishman, a strong tentacle from one of the long lost amalgyms, and a petrified skull of a lycanthrope I may be able to create the head and neck of the instrument. If you go out and gather these things, make sure to bring me the note I gave you or I might forget who you are. I am getting quite old, you know.'

You receive Forpar's Note to Himself in your inventory.

  • This is the list of items he needs:

  • 1) Backbone of an Ancient Fishman - Kedge Backbone from Phinigel Autropos in Kedge Keep.
    2) Amalgam Tentacle - Amygdalan Tendril from Plane of Fear.
    3) Petrified Skull of a Lycanthrope - Petrified Werewolf Skull from Karnor's Castle off a Drolvarg Warlord.

Take all 3 items and the note back give to Forpar.

Forpar Fizfla says 'Wow! I didn't think a Human like you would be able to gather all of those things.' Forpar rambles around and works with small tools for a good ten minutes before handing you a very fine looking lute head. 'Now, do you want to gather the next pieces for me?'

  • He gives you the Mystical Lute Head.

    You say, 'What next pieces?'

Forpar Fizfla says 'The next pieces are a little harder to come by than those. To make the body of an instrument that will last ages to come, I need something very special. The scales of a big red dragon and the scales of a big white dragon will make it unbreakable, as well as giving it a unique look. Some metal bits will allow me to hold the body together. Please, if you gather up these things, bring them to me as soon as possible. I have not felt this good in years!'

  • The body requires the following items:

    1) Red Dragon Scales from Talendor, Lord Nagafen, or Echo of Nortlav.
    2) White Dragon Scales from Gorenaire or Lady Vox.
    3) Metal Bits (regular smithed metal bits). (There's been some confusion because the name of the item is plural, but you really only need one copy of this. Verified in-game.)

Forpar Fizfla says 'Woooooo! You are doing a wonderful job, ______. I wish I could go out and gather these things myself.' Forpar sits back down at his desk and pulls several very strange looking tools out. Eventually he looks up at you and says, 'The body is done! Only one more piece to go!'

You say, 'One more piece to go?'

Forpar Fizfla says 'The lute has a head and body. The only thing missing is a set of strings that will never break! I have heard rumors of a living dead poison dragon in the lands of Kunark. If your were somehow able to get your hands on his guts, I could finish the lute. You would have to bring me the head, the body and the undead dragon gut for lute strings!'

  • Find and bring a raidforce to Trakanon's lair in Old Sebilis at -2085, -705.

  • Kill Trakanon and loot the Undead Dragongut Strings from him. On Live servers, spawn the triggered version of Trakanon by giving the Undead Bard the Mystical Lute Body.

  • Once you have all three lute parts, give the following to Forpar to receive the mystical lute: the head, body and gut strings.

Forpar Fizfla says 'Goodness! I can hardly contain myself! This will be my greatest creation ever!' Forpar sits down, slides the lute head into place and screws it together. After a few minutes, he begins to string the lute with the gut strings of the poison dragon. A wonderful sound fills the air as he strums the lute once and hands it to you. 'I hope you find a good use for that! I bet you could play it from the mountaintops and the people below would hear you. Thank you, ______, for making my lifelong dream come true!'

    You gain experience!!

  • Now head back to Baldric Slezaf and give him the following items:

    1) Maestro's Symphony Page 24 Top
    2) Maestro's Symphony Page 24 Bottom
    3) Maestro's Symphony Page 25
    4) Mystical Lute from Forpar

Baldric Slezaf looks shocked as you hand him the pages and the mystical lute. 'I will put on a symphony the likes of which the gods have never seen. Thank you so much, ______. Please take this sword as a token of my gratitude.'

    You gain experience!!

  • He will reward you with the Singing Short Sword.

I wanted the Composer title so I did this quest as a shaman. The final turn in WILL NOT give you the epic or title if you are no bard.

A MQ of the final turn in may still work but I havent confirmed it.

The quest is not what gives you the title... it's having it inventory or bank. Trust me -- I kept losing my title every time I died because epic was on my body not on me or in the bank.

Oh yeah and I believe they coded it so that only the epic's class recieves the epic.

i seem to remember that they put a lvl restriction on epics (52???)looooong time ago ... is my memory worse than i thought and this is not true?
    RE: lvl restrictions on epics
    # Jun 18 2004 at 3:29 PM Rating: Decent
You have to be level 51 or the quest NPC's won't even talk to you. It's not a usage restriction, the NPC's will just hand you back the items and say "try again." www.eqdiva.com has explicit text in their walkthrough.

    Is it worth getting?

Well, I am level 65, I am flagged for time and uqua. I am currently finishing the epic quest, on my last kill, waiting on it to spawn now.

I created my character april 10, 1999, and have been 65 for a long while now, and have well over 200 AA points.

Bards will tell you the epic is worthwhile. What you have to do is consider it for yourself. I am doing it only because other, nonbards will not leave me alone about not having done it.

The instrument modifier is garbage for everything except singing. You can go to kelethin and buy the same modifier, or you can go to katta and buy a 22 modifier. The instrument modifiers on any real instrument are much higher.

The common arguement is that it is every instrument modifier. On a raid, if you are using an epic for area resists, you are giving the raid less than half the resists you could give with other items. A TDoK, especially before AA are purchased, gives far more resists.

Another arguement is the singing modifier. Sining modifier is for psalm line spells, and impacts the damage shield and resists. It's worthwhile. However, plane of torment drops an item with a 20 singing modifier, which is higher than the epic, as does water. Time drops a 24 mask and a 25 sword.

Basically, you're looking at a little less than doubling the psalm line songs, and not having to equip instruments in cases where the modifier isn't helping.

The bigger "incentive" is the haste buff. If you look at the sss and at, say, siren's song, siren's song has more or less the same buff (it's really close). The sword gives a bonus to attack, also, that the dagger misses, and sword is right clickable.

These hastes are the same haste percentage as the PoP haste, and are base haste (so the highest takes precedence). The thing is, if you have 4 or 5 mezzed (are working crowd control), it can be really hard to haste at the same time.

The stat bonuses, etc. on the effect are worthwhile.

Prior to gaining access to torment and beyond, the hitpoint and stat modifiers are fairly nice as well. :) Compared to elemental weapons, etc. they aren't so hot though.

Last I checked, sss had a combat effect and was NOT right clickable like SB, 1.5 and 2.0 (among others). The fact it is combat makes it unattractive for bards to use it while grouping or raiding since people will kill you for occupying their last buff slot with something they find useless and causing them to miss a HoT buff.

All in all, this is just a brag piece and a stepping stone to 1.5/2.0 (which are also slacking in the mod department since other items have better mods, but the clicky effect is nice and lands on pets for those with PA -- go go bard hasted swarm pets!).

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 28 2004 at 5:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) the best reason to do this is none of the straw men u provided. It is the fact that you have all instrument types and a singing mod in one. sure you can replace each instrument with a better one at a time, but lets see u get all the instrument mods equiped at once better then the epic without sacrificing a bunch of HPs or other stats.....it is far easier to get an epic then to collect the various items you want to replace your epic with...i rather toss a FT aug on my armour then a singing 100% aug
    RE: lvl restrictions on epics
    # Aug 13 2004 at 4:43 PM Rating: Default
Actually, if you noticed, there are items in the elementals and time that have better modifiers for ALL instruments including singing that are not instruments or weapons themselves. So, you CAN have ALL instrument modifiers at the same time when all these items are equipped. Sure they're not all on one item, but if you're a bard that is able to get to these places then you slowly start turning away from your epic for the modifiers. However, if you don't have access to that stuff or if you just aren't lucky enough then yes, the epic is nice to have. But as was said, the haste on the epic is pretty sweet. Which does give it some value. He also wasn't talking entirely about augs, because the augs are not comparable to EP and Time drops with modifiers.

Dunno if that has been mentioned before, but Zordakalicus Ragefire doesn't drop the red scale anymore. Since a year or so, this triggered mob for cleric epic only drops Blazing Armor of Fennin Ro and the cleric epic item of course.
All regular red dragon loot (Nagafen/Talendor) such as Cloak of Flame, Pally books etc have been removed from him.

I have seen that the Warrior epic can be augmented, but can the bards epic get augmented too? Also reading some peeps are trying to duel wield the warrior epic, but doing it twice and augmenting the first one. Then they can duel wield the same sword. I would of thought Sony would of thought of this and put something in the game to prevent this from happening.

My bard is lvl 10(twinked) and ive gotten the top half of the symphony...now how hard is it to get the second and do u think if I got a group of high lvl chars that I might be able to grab all three guts for Pg.25?

    "soon to be" ?

If by soon you mean in a few years, maybe. Getting to level 65 is the easy part. Being flagged for the various planes you'll need to visit to even have a prayer of seeing those items is going to take alot of time and dedication and the resources of a very capable guild. Still, nothing wrong with dreaming, I know !

As for the drops for your epic, I'd strongly suggest you concentrate on levelling to at least 50 before bothering with any. No-one is going to go around killing high end mobs for a level 10 to get their epic drops. You could start with the Onyx Drake Gut (from Blackwing) in Rathe Mountains I guess. He's absolute cake compared to the other 2 named mobs whose guts you'll need. If you're well twinked I even think you can take him down when you're as low as 25...he's remarkably easy. At level 40 I killed him in what seemed like 3 seconds. You look around for something else to spawn and start whacking you, but it doesn't. You just stand there thinking "was that IT ?"

Nezekezena and Eldrig are a real handful for a bard to solo and you'd be spending your time more wisely getting the levels you need to show you're serious about your toon. Grab a pet class friend in their 60's and you should find both mobs are easy enough. Yes it can be done with a lower level group, but you may aswell just go for an easy option like a decent level Beastlord or similar to kill either.

Nez and Eld can be solo'd by an untwinked 50 magi fairly easily so no need to find a 60+ class unless you just want it over quick.

    Order
    # Dec 02 2003 at 9:35 AM Rating: Decent
Just for all those wondering, you can skip the head of the lute and do it last. I had the components for the body, while I was still missing the Amygdalan Tentacle for the head. I tried my luck and was awarded the body without having done the head. So now I am able to spawn Trakanon with the undead bard. I will still need to do the head part to finish the quest. But it is easier to have 1 Mystical Lute Body, then to have 1 Red Dragon Scale, 1 White Dragon Scale, and 1 Metal Bits. Less of a chance of deleting the body. Just FYI.

    SCALES!

Ok someone plz answer this question for me...
Who can I get scales from if I lv past 52? I dont know if scalekeeper is still in the Hole after revamp either?

thnx in advance for good replies

    # Oct 20 2003 at 9:49 AM Rating: Default
    Ok this is simple.

White scales drop from white dragons. Lady Vox and goreinair(sp).

Red dragon Scales drop from red dragons. Talendor, Ragefire and Nagafen. Nortilav does drop the red dragon scale everytime and ima pretty sure he is still there (edit:he is now called Echo of Nortilav, would be intersted to find out the lore for this change). But be very carefull he is one of the hardest mobs in the game (prePoP), Harm touches for 1500 every round hits for like 500+ double and quads, a very very dangerous human indead. The only way my guild has taken him down is to get an ubah chanter with the insta-right click 1500HP rune and get them to spam it, whilst everyone else attacks, my advice, unless u are truely ubah leave him well alone and buy one from the bazaar.

    Amy whip
    # Oct 08 2003 at 1:22 AM Rating: Decent
I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit more info on the Amy whip. For one: does it just drop off of random mobs or are there certain mobs I need? It says multiple creatures when I look it up but just wondering if I am more likely to get it from some then others. Second: What type raid force am I going to need in PoF? What strategies should I use, etc., etc. I am not in a "uber" guild but it's not exactly small either. Any help would be appreciated as this is the last item I need before doing Trak turn in.

Amy Whip drops off the Amygdalyn Warriors only that I have seen. Been to PoF to help several bards get this piece after getting my own. As a bard you can break fear for the rest of a guild to come in easier then any other class. Hit Selos, get whoever is around to hit you with resists then zone in with resist songs playing. Go around as if you're kiting with aggro pulling all the mobs in the area to you, take them east and when you're sure you have the majority of the zone in hill with you on the east end have the rest of your raid zone in and move to the west wall. Now if you've got a necro with your raid bite the bullet have them summon/rez you and get started. If you don't have a necro then use a gate potion and you'll have to sit the beginning of the raid out as they wipe the area around the hill to allow you to zone in safely. Good luck to all you bards in need of your pretty epic.

Or you could just have a mage CoH you to them. This loses aggro, requires no deaths, gate potions or even zoning.

No actually it does nothing to agro to get ported around a zone unless it actually zones you(like succor or deccession or any of those other 'evac' spells), although if you get ported a LONG way across a zone, mobs will refuse to path to you and although they still remember/hate you, they will sit on their thumbs till you get a bit closer.

Just lvl to 63, get Fading Memories AA skill, and Fade after everyone is in. Works for me. Note: just watch out for those see invis mobs, make sure you are far enough away.
Workin on it so just some info

Ok, the gut turn in is MQ'able, as is the kedge spine, werewolf head, tendril turn in. Had a friend turn in spine and i turned in rest and got what I needed. Correct the neck is no longer necessary, I did not receive it and petitioned to find out it is no longer given. Turning in ONE metal bit with the dragon scales also works. I was kinda freaked out when I looked back and read 2 after only turning in one but I still got the body. Just a few things I did (that I thought were wrong) during this that I wanted to shared with you all.

I read where Chromodrac Guts (part of page 25) is MQ'able. Thank Goodness because I planned to MQ it for a bard in my guild. My question is ... Is amiable faction with Kelkim Menkia good enough faction?

IMPORTANT: The reward for turning in the amygdalan tendril, kedge backbone, petrified werewolf skull, and forpar's note to himself is ONLY the Mystical Lute Head. The Neck piece is no longer returned and is apparently not necessary.
can i do this type of mq
    # Jul 01 2003 at 2:00 AM Rating: Decent
well i have the warlord skull i was woundering if my friend turns in the phinny back bone and another friend turns in the fear whip and then i turn in the skull will it work?
RE: can i do this type of mq
    # Nov 07 2003 at 5:58 PM Rating: Decent
Yes this will work, if any doubts about faction though, charm forpar, he can be bard charmed and then have them turn in and then you turn in last if your the bard, for my bard i had a kos friend turn in his whip to forpar while forpar was charmed.... On another note when i went there to do the turn in on my bard it was funny there were these two Neuts(Neutrals) trying to hide behind him so i couldnt kill him cuz they had faction, they thought that if i attacked them he would save them, i just simply hit my charm song, charmed forpar, and /pet kill x2, i was so lol...

I have read some posts where you have to be agnostic and use DE mask to give the note to Maligar. Is this true? I follow Veeshan so i was wondering what I am to do about this part of the quest. Also i was wondering if i am going to have to ruin my standing with my own diety when I kill wurms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maligar is pretty low level. Kill everything around him, then charm him and hand him the note. That's the easy way.

Not sure about the deity, but my agnostic Wood-elf bard did the hand-in without an illusion. I think Maligar was dubious at the time.

You hand the head and neck of the lute in to the undead bard to spawn a clone of Trakanon. This is the mob that drops the guts for the bard epic quest.

The epic gives 13% to all types of songs EXCEPT Singing, it gives some huge boost to singing.
