This quest begins with Katka (click for map image), a high elf in the central part of the Mines in the Plane of War.

Note: You will receive the flag for finishing this quest regardless of whether you do it in the storyline order. In the storyline, this quest ties in to the Castle Rulnavis quest arc. After completing the second Castle Rulnavis quest, "A Colossal Task", you are given an item called "Plan for Narikor" which sends you to the Mines to free its souls. If you have previously done Katka's quest, however, then you can continue the Castle Rulnavis quest arc without having to repeat this quest.

The Mines are accessible after having finished the first access quest for the Field of Strife (see this quest entry for details) and are entered either by clicking on one of the two small statues in the far southern part of the Plane of War (see this map image, in purple), or through the basement of the Plane of Tactics (click for map image).

You say, 'Hail, Katka'

Katka says 'An answer to prayer? Did the Father of War send you to me, or are you but another wretched soul disgraced on the field of battle? _____, do you think yourself a disgrace? Did you raise a shield a second too late? Did you flinch when ordered to rush the enemy's line? Then you are fit only for slavery in these mines... or so the wraiths would have us believe. But I know I am no coward! None of us here are cowards who gave their lives in battle! And we shall prove it. There are others I know who will rally to my cause. I can see you are one of them, but Sorayn, Mickorn, and Selynse might need more convincing. Give them these messages, and be sure the slavers do not see what I plan.'

You receive three items: 1x "Secret Note to Sorayn" + 1x "Secret Note to Mickorn" + 1x "Secret Note to Selynse".

The Three Notes

The three notes are to be delivered to three NPCs in the Mines: Sorayn (map image), Mickorn (map image), and Selynse (map image).

Sorayn gives you "Sorayn's Necklace Chain" in return:

Sorayn says 'Katka talks, but can she act? Do you think you have the strength to fight the will of the Father? I don't think so. I need proof, and so do my friends.' Sorayn hands you a necklace chain. 'My chain has been looking empty lately. Sure, I have plenty of chains on my arms and ankles, but this one use to hold the teeth of my fallen foes. I'd love to hear it clink with the sound of slaver guard molars! They say the right attire can lend a man confidence. Why don't you prove the adage?'

Mickorn gives you "Narikor Ore Bucket" and "Narikor Rock Pick" in return:

Mickorn laughs as he rests his pick on his shoulder. 'Oh, aren't you a bold one? Katka has caught you in one of her schemes, has she? Best you get to work before the guards beat your lazy hide!' Mickorn tosses you a pick. 'You gotta learn where the good ore is, and be careful: some folks don't take kindly to those who mine in their favorite spots! Maybe if you fill this bucket with enough iron ore, Bolgorn might take a liking to you and give you access to work the forge. Now get to work and keep your head down!'

Selynse gives you "Selynse's Black Powder" in return:

Selynse looks you over and smiles. 'Aren't you a welcome sight! We don't get many like you down here. It's all orcs and minotaurs, all the time! But you're not here to talk about us, are you?' Selynse reads the note from Katka. 'I almost wish I hadn't told her about my alchemy. Did you know I used to work in Castle Rulnavis? Well, I did, until that slimy gnome, Veryon, arrived. He planted a Tamrelian uniform among my belongings and told that halfwit, Frellum, that I was a spy for Castle Tamrel. Veryon pointed and accused, Frellum held up the garb, and then the sword slipped between my ribs. Then I was here. So, I wouldn't mind returning to Field and having a word with Veryon. But first, I've been secretly experimenting with my black powder recipe. Why don't you try it out and see how many guardians you can kill for me? I always had a thing for used rings...'

Sorayn's Necklace

Kill "a guardian of Narikor" and "a Decorin taskmaster" in the mines until you've looted 10x "Narikor Guard's Tooth". Inside the "Sorayn's Necklace Chain", combine these 10 items to produce 1x "Necklace of Narikor Teeth".

Once finished, deliver the Necklace to Sorayn.

Sorayn drapes the necklace of teeth around his neck. He shows his own teeth, sharp and brown. 'Such a sweet sounds these whisper! They make a convincing argument for your cause, _____. Give this note to Katka. I think she'll like it.

You receive "Sorayn's Pledge of Support".

Mickorn's Ore Mining

Right-click the "Narikor Rock Pick" around areas with rocks until you get emotes telling you to move to different locations. Do this until you've collected 10x "Narikor Iron Ore".

NOTE: While you're doing these clicks, a hostile mob called "a motivator" has a chance to spawn and attack. This mob can also drop ores, but can be faded if you want (will despawn after a few moments of being non-aggro).

Once you have 10x "Narikor Iron Ore", combine them in the "Narikor Ore Bucket"; then take the result to Forgetender Bolgorn (click for map image):

Forgetender Bolgorn hefts the bucket of rocks and sees all the iron ore inside. 'Someone's been a good little worker... better than those other layabouts! You need to use the forge? You've earned this cloak. Use it as needed, but don't make me regret it, or I'll make sure you're the one with regrets!

You receive a "Narikor Forge Insignia Cloak". Turn in this item along with the "Narikor Rock Pick" to Mickorn:

Mickorn says 'You filled that whole bucket already? And Bolgorn has accepted you into the forge?' Mickorn rubs his chin. 'I suppose with you helping her, Katka's plan isn't as silly as I thought. Well, I won't stand in your way! Keep your cloak and do what you need to do!'

The "Narikor Forge Insignia Cloak" is returned to you, and you receive "Mickorn's Pledge of Support".

Selynse's Rings

Right-click the black powder to spawn an aura, and then pull "a guardian of Narikor" or "a Decorin taskmaster" into it. Upon doing so, you'll see one of three emotes:

_____`s pet's fuse fizzles out.
--- Aura failed.

_____ is harmed in a cave in, but his injuries do not attract attention.
--- Aura worked, feign-death on mob, but no captain spawn.

_____ gravely injured in a cave in, and a captain comes to see what happened!
--- Aura worked, feign-death on mob, and "a slayer captain" spawns (goes aggro).

NOTE: The original mob does not despawn upon being crushed. Also, the captain will despawn if left idle for 30 seconds or so.

You'll need to repeat this process until you kill a captain that drops a ring (rare drop). The captain hits for a max ~21,500 and casts several spells:

Blood of the Zekarian: Single Target, Poison (-950)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 18462 per tick
2: Increase Poison Counter by 18

Harm Touch of War: Single Target, Unresistable (0)
1: Increase Hitpoints by 200000 (-40% max)

Hateful Attraction: Single Target, Unresistable (0)
1: Pull target towards caster (6)

Plague of Strife: Single Target, (-750)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 18462 per tick
2: Increase Corruption counter by 18

Touch of Zek: Single Target, Magic (-950)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 46154
2: Resource Tap (5000)

Warblind Darkness: Single Target, Magic (-950)
1: Decrease Movement by 65%
2: Negate Base Run Modifier Effect
3: Trigger if Cured: Warblind Darkness
4: Decrease Hitpoints by 9231 per tick

Zekarian Slam: Single Target, (-900)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 23077
2: Stun (3.50 sec/999)

Loot the "Narikor Guardian's Ring" from its corpse, and then turn it (along with the Powder) in to Selynse:

Selynse claps her hands and then slips on the ring you hand her, despite the blood that still clings to it. 'It's a little big, but I love it! You're such a sweetheart! This just might work... I think if we can get Jolris to help, I should have the perfect way to gift-wrap my handiwork!

You receive "Selynse's Note to Jolris" which you are to take to Cooper Jolris (click for map image):

Cooper Jolris says 'Katka and Selynse are scheming again? Oh, those two... You need a barrel? I used to construct them for Castle Tamrel, but long ago, when a Rulnavian force pushed their way past the gates, someone stabbed me in the back as I ran. We really should have had defenders on the walls... But it's not an easy thing to make barrels anymore. I have some steel and wood scraps that I've collected, but I don't have access to the forge to put them together. I'd need a cloak, and Bolgorn doesn't hand them out easily. Go ahead, take the scraps. If you can manage to use them, it'll be all the better. I hope this plan of Katka's actually works!'

You receive "Barrel Bones".

Note: This point in the quest requires you to have the "Narikor Forge Insignia Cloak" from the Mickorn's mining part. Now, head to the forge area (the room west of Forgetender Bolgorn), to one of the anvils in the room, and right-click the "Barrel Bones":

Flashing the Forge insignia to prove your worthiness of using the forge's tools, you hammer out a brand new barrel.
You are impressed with your new barrel. It should hold a lot of black powder.

This produces an "Empty Narikor Barrel". Hand in this item along with the "Narikor Forge Insignia Cloak" to Selynse:

Selynse runs a finger along the rim of the barrel. 'This is going to be perfect. I have plenty of powder at the ready in my hiding places. Let Katka know I shall be ready when she is.

You receive "Selynse's Pledge of Support".

Pledges of Support

Turn in the following items to Katka: "Sorayn's Pledge of Support" + "Mickorn's Pledge of Support" + "Selynse's Pledge of Support".

Katka says 'They are with me. Beautiful. Now we need the rest, the downtrodden of Narikor. Proclaim aloud this letter of rebellion! Sing the song of freedom to those indifferent, unimpressed slavers, and let them be aware that their slaves will not be obedient forever! As you provoke the slavers to anger and spill their blood, Jergamund, one of the chiefs of this dismal place, shall be drawn forth. Confront him with the words of rebellion. Defeat him and make an example of him in the Forge. When the slaves see him bloodied, they will taste the possibility of freedom, and the taint of disgrace will be washed away!'

You receive a "Proclamation of Rebellion".

Proclaiming Rebellion

In the mines, find an "an unimpressed slaver" (multiple spawn points; is non-aggro until triggered) and right-click the "Proclamation of Rebellion" on it:

You read aloud the proclamation, in defiance of the slavers: 'We, the dishonored of Narikor, proclaim ourselves free of your tyranny and worthy of ascension to the eternal battlefield! If you stand in our way, we shall crush you like rocks beneath the Forge's hammer!'

an unimpressed slaver says 'How dare you deny your place, you unworthy, disgraced, miserable soul!'

an unimpressed slaver says 'Your blood will be my freedom!'

"an unimpressed slaver" aggro's and must be killed. Repeat this process until a named mob spawns in its place ("Jergamund the Slaver" -- the unimpressed slavers act as regular PHs), then do the same process for that mob.

Note: "Jergamund the Slaver" will not spawn at any given spawn point unless you are away from it (you can't sit at a spawn point). Note also that he is a belly-caster, so to land spells on him, players have to be very close to him.

Loot "Captured Slaver" from Jergamund the Slaver's corpse, and then head back to the forge area. Stand in front of the hammer (-3300, 95, -99) that smashes the floor and right-click the "Captured Slaver":

You prepare to make an example of Jergamund...
You made an example of Jergamund the Slaver.
An Example screams as the hammer falls, 'Oh, gods, no!'

"An Example" (Jergamund's body) appears on the ground, and then things get messy. You receive "Jergamund's Bloody Head" on your cursor.

Turn in "Jergamund's Bloody Head" and "Proclamation of Rebellion" to Katka:

Katka holds Jergamund's bloody head in her hands and laughs at it. 'I hope your soul was sent to a fouler place than this one, Jergamund! May you live in chains and feel twice the number of lashes on your back as you gave all of us! _____, this will galvanize the slaves. The time is right. Deliver this to Selynse and prepare to destroy the Forge. The wraiths will no longer be able to ignore our courage!

You receive "Katka's Call to Arms", which you are to turn in to Selynse:

Selynse drags a barrel from behind a rock. 'It's so heavy! It's filled to the brim with the last of my powder. I hate to see you go... this is dangerous work, and I don't know what worse place you might find yourself in if this does not go as planned... But this is our little bundle of salvation.' Selynse pats the barrel. 'Place this baby between the furnaces, and when it's born the whole forge will light up in fire. Maybe, just maybe, the wraiths will see this light of courage burning in the darkness. They may test you... and if you are worthy of receiving their tokens, we all might ascend with you as you pass by the Diviner of the Worthy. Just don't forget us, Wondora!'

You receive "Explosive Narikor Barrel".

Encounter in the Forge

Note: This part of the quest involves a fight with four mobs at once.

Right-click the "Explosive Narikor Barrel" in between the two large furnaces along the south end of the room:

You prepare the barrel full of black powder.
You light the fuse!

"The Black Powder Freedom Barrel" spawns in between the two furnaces. After a few moments, you see:

The Black Powder Freedom Barrel has destroyed the Forge's great furnaces! This will surely draw the attention of the wraiths!

4x "a shade of judgement" spawn at this time (see-invis and aggro).

During the encounter, one of the shades will (de)buff itself with "Strengthen the Many" (it gains the title "Sacrificing Strength"). This weakens itself, but strengthens the others. They may alternate as the fight goes on.

Strengthen the Many: Self 0', Unresistable (0)
1: Increase Incoming Spell Damage by 20%
2: Limit: Spell Type (Detrimental only)
3: Decrease AC by 750

Also of note, these are Shadow Knight mobs and cast the standard lineup of spells and AEs generally seen by Shadow Knight mobs in the zone:

Blood of the Zekarian: Single Target, Poison (-950)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 18462 per tick
2: Increase Poison Counter by 18

Harm Touch of War: Single Target, Unresistable (0)
1: Increase Hitpoints by 200000 (-40% max)

Hateful Attraction: Single Target, Unresistable (0)
1: Pull target towards caster (6)

Plague of Strife: Single Target, (-750)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 18462 per tick
2: Increase Corruption counter by 18

Touch of Zek: Single Target, Magic (-950)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 46154
2: Resource Tap (5000)

Warblind Darkness: Single Target, Magic (-950)
1: Decrease Movement by 65%
2: Negate Base Run Modifier Effect
3: Trigger if Cured: Warblind Darkness
4: Decrease Hitpoints by 9231 per tick

Zekarian Slam: Single Target, (-900)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 23077
2: Stun (3.50 sec/999)

Loot 3x "Token of Reclaimed Honor" from their corpses.

NOTE: If left idle for any more than about 60 seconds, the shades despawn. If you fail the encounter, you can re-trigger it ("Explosive Narikor Barrel" has a 6-minute re-use timer).

Diviner of the Worthy

Turn in the tokens along with the barrel to the Diviner of the Worthy (found at the entrance to the Mines area) to complete the quest.

Diviner of the Worthy says 'Holder of the tokens, your will is strong and your courage unquestioned. Those you have named come with you. Their spirits ascend from the depths to rejoin the battles. Go now and fight with honor!'

I clicked the black powder on a bunch of times on the 2 "a guardian of Narikor" in Selynse's tunnel and never got a guard. Ended up at the start of the mines, got 3 captains in 4 clicks and 2 rings to drop on the mobs in the first couple of rooms. I suspect the further you are from the start of the mines the less success you will have with this part.

Sounds like exaggeration. But I used logs to double-check my count.

Over two days, I killed 64 "an unimpressed slaver" before seeing my first Jergamund pop.

Confirmed as incorrect. I parked a couple characters at the unimpressed slaver near Rolfron's spawn point. I never left the slaver's immediate area (its a great semi-afk spot; totally safe without roamers). After killing the unimpressed PH several times. Jergamund did indeed spawn. Just another anti-camp radius old wives' tale.

Bonus!: Jergamund spawned back-to-back for me at this spot :)
Bonus! Bonus!: Had Jergamund spawn 3x within an hour here. 3rd time he literally spawned on my head.

The spawn block is actually a thing. If you are ON the spawn spot.

* Kill 1-4 PHs.
* Sit/FD ON any of the spawn spots.

All of the other PHs will respawn except the one you are at.

Get up and move - it'll spawn immediately.

Gamadhob suggested a 30-minute force spawn timer. I did not test this. But did test up to 10 minutes.

In the task info about it states that "Jergamund the Slaver" will not spawn at any given spawn point unless you are away from it (you can't sit at a spawn point).

I believe this information is incorrect. We had a large group of folks cyling a ph just north of "Rolfron Zek, Lord of Despair" and had "Jergamund the Slaver" spawn. You probably want to try and cycle multiple "an unimpressed slaver" because the spawn rate of the named is very low. Can easily go 3 hrs cycling 2 ph's to get a single named.

Task overview: Pretty long quest that has you running all over the mines. In hide sight it would have been really nice to have a mage staged at Katka and entrance of the mines.

Make sure you read over everything you need to do because you'll want to be doing a couple of the steps in tandem.

Start at Katka and work your way back to mine entrance stopping at Selynse -> Sorayn -> Mickorn to turn in notes.

Next do Mickorn's Ore Mining step. Setup at Krepp the Augurer loc: -3480, 494 and clear mobs close by then start mining. When you get a message about needing to move you can slide north a little bit and keep going. This will take a lot of time. You will want to collect: 10x "Narikor Iron Ore", 10x "Narikor Guard's Tooth", 1x "Narikor Guardian's Ring"

After you complete the mining head to entrance of mines and do Sorayn's necklace and Selynse's Ring steps at the same time.

Proclaiming Rebellion - was another long camp. I was able to cycle two unimpressive slaver ph's and it took about 2-3 hrs per spawn.

Encounter in the forge - bring friends getting 4x of these at one time is a pain. They are unmezable so plan to tank / heal through it. Make sure you clear the room before you spawn the 4x shades.

Moved to a different spawn point and the original one respawned finally, looks like you may have to work at least two spawn spots which is kind of a pain down in the mines with the see invis wanderers.

Been camping 2 spawn spots (of 4) in the zone - and he is a RARE spawn - been doing it for several hours - I've yet to see a named this rare before...even the raid named only popped after taking out a few PHes.

Also, "Repeat this process until a named mob spawns in its place ("Jergamund the Slaver"), then do the same process for that mob. " - sounds like it can pop immediately from one of the slaver PHes. You're actually camping this like you would anything else and waiting for each respawn cycle for him to pop so it's not a "he jumps out of the body" of a mob you kill.

Seems like the respawn time is not consistant. My first repop of the PH was just a few minutes, second one was more like 20 minutes.

I can confirm that doing the mine before anything still allow you to turn in the Plan for Narikor soon as you get it and the task will continue. I took a big chance of doing it but I am probably the one that started the rumor about having to start it over if done out of order as I had to do it again on test but could have been a faction issue... Sorry.

[Tue Apr 15 19:06:41 2014] High Strategist Galben crumples the plans in his fist. 'There is no longer need for paper. The souls have risen, and Squelniss has trapped them. They linger in this castle, awaiting my word, awaiting the fate for which they were destined. You think me mad? Do you think Drelg of Tamrel honors the wishes of our Father? He too consults the dark shamanic arts and feeds upon the souls of Narikor. His crystallized souls shroud him and his spies from view, and even as we speak he plans to drown our forces in an invisible tide of steel. But this will not happen. You will take the colossus, imbued with the souls you have brought back from Narikor. You will deliver it to the gate of Castle Tamrel, use it to smash the crystals, and finally plant its stony fists through the face of Drelg himself. Go now, and give these requisitions to Gurkan and Forlen. I will have my victory.

The best places to mine ore are away from mobs. I mined over by Krepp the Augurer without aggroing nearby miners (in a SE nook of the mines).

If you are ~100' or more distant from other enemy NPCs, you will not get the emote:
"A miner has become angered that you are mining near his claim!"

You will still sometimes get the following:
"A sneaky slaver has been watching your actions and has decided to beat the suspiciousness out of you!"

This emote indicates "a motivator" has spawned on you, and will attack you. You can train it away (it will stay wherever it gets trained to) and fade, then resume mining. These take about one minute to despawn.

You can mine in one place 6 times, then move over to another spot ~50' away, and mine 6 more times. Once you've mined once in a new area, you can go back to the first spot without problems.

If you are doing this alone, I recommend using a 2nd toon with a cleric merc to rez you on add spawns (if you can't fade/FD). It will take a long time regardless.

For the part where you use the barrel to blow up the forge, and kill the 4 shades -

You'll want to clear the room first. The barrel only works in the SW corner. 4x "a shade of judgment" spawn in a row down the middle of the room, they are not splittable, and summon at 100%. You'll want to use defensive discs (i.e. deflection) and burn them - they don't have a lot of HP, but hit pretty hard. The shades share HP with each other sometimes; they have an indicator in parenthesis under their name (can't recall what it said atm). After they die there is a short recast on spawning them again (you'll likely have to clear the room for each person).

You get 4 tokens total, and you only need 3, so 1/4 people does not have to spawn the event (we did the event 3 times and the 4th was able to turn in with the extra tokens that dropped on each wave).
Time sink and Possible bugs.

Collecting the teeth for the necklace is by far the fastest part of this quest. However the other parts have seriously made up for that. I have mined close to 3k times and only have about 6 iron ores to show for it. and so far I am approx. 0 for 35 captain slaver kills for the ring to drop. I am not sure if I am just doing something wrong when it comes to the slave captains, I can get them to spawn fairly easily and have tried several different methods in both spawning and killing them. But no luck getting a ring. Best of luck
