Diggs Duggun is a dwarf that runs around the maze.

You say, 'Hail, Diggs Duggun'

Diggs Duggun says ''ail, dere! Ain'tcha a sight fer me sore eyes! I knows dat we're strangers an' all, but might I ask a [boon] of ye?'

You say, 'What boon?'

Diggs Duggun says 'Well, me pickaxe is blunted awfully bad and me ale supplies are dangerously low. If'n ye would be kind enough t' get me a new pick and a couple o' bottles o' dwarven ale, I would be f'rever in yer debt.'

Give him a Pick (found at the vendor at the Kaladim Bank) and two Dwarven Ales (not stacked).

Diggs Duggun drinks one of the ales and burps loudly then says 'By Brell's Beard! Yer a lifesaver, ya are! 'ere, take dis bone I've found 'ere in dis maze. Looks human ta me and I'm thinkin that a proper burial is in order. Freeport's the closest place dat has one o Marr's temples. I'm thinkin dis was one o' his Holy Knights by da look o' da tattered tunic I found it wrapped in. I'm thinkin Valeron might be havin an interest in it.'

Receive A Dusty Old Leg Bone.

Now go find a Paladin guildmaster by the name of Valeron Dushire. He is in West Freeport, approximate location -1120, +495, -126 (inside the Hall of Truth, the building in the north-northwest part of West Freeport).

You say, 'Hail, Valeron Dushire'

Valeron Dushire says 'I am Sir Valeron Dushire, leader of the order of the Knights of Truth. If your soul shines with purity and strength, I urge you to join our order. The might of Mithaniel Marr stands behind all who join. Soon that might will help us free this city from the tyranny of the [Freeport Militia].'

Give him the Dusty Old Leg Bone. You must be indifferent or he will simply hand it back.

Valeron Dushire says 'Hail, adventurer! I... what's this? Where did you get this? Never mind.. I.. I never thought we would find [him]!'

You say, 'Who is Diggs Duggun?'

Valeron Dushire says 'According to this crest on the tunic, you have recovered one of the bones of a lost Paladin [Hero].'

You say, 'What hero?'

Valeron Dushire says 'His name has been long lost but his legend lives on in every young knight who aspires to continue his fight. He attempted to quell an evil that resided within Kithicor, perverting nature itself. Much to his relief, it was an earthly foe he fought against and not a denizen summoned from the planes of evil. Then, suddenly, he was surrounded by dozens of dark elves. He was captured and taken to the Dead to be experimented upon and had his soul twisted by vile necromantic magics. Then the Tier'Dal cast his remains to the winds. Where they landed, no one knew, until now. You have found one of his bones. I hereby charge you with a Holy Quest to bring this Hero's bones back for a burial with honors. Do you [accept], knight?'

You say, 'I accept.'

Valeron Dushire says 'Good! I knew you would. It is one of the highest honors one can receive. Your quest will not be easy for I know not where his other bones lay. A spy of ours within Neriak was able to surmise that six of his bones along with his sword and shield were scattered throughout Norrath. You must search far and wide to find the remaining pieces, as you already have one.. Do not give up. It is now your sacred duty. Once you have retrieved all eight pieces, come back to me and inform me that you [have all the bones].'

You now need to collect six bones, a shield, a sword and a coffin. These are the items and locations:

1. A Dusty Old Skull - Minotaur caves in Steamfont in Meldrath's room.

2. A Dusty Old Leg Bone - You received this from talking to Diggs Duggun in Beholder's Maze.

3. A Dusty Ribcage - The Garden in Castle Mistmoore.

4. A Dusty Old Backbone - Ghost Room Pit in Unrest.

5. A Dusty Old Jawbone - Underwater Ice Cave in Everfrost.

6. Dusty Old Finger Bones - Inside Phinigel Autropos's room in Kedge Keep on a rock next to the wall. Exact Location is neg 147, pos 145, neg 251.

7. A Dusty Broken Sword - In the mines of Kaladim in the water.

8. A Dusty Broken Shield - On a ledge on right cliffs in Erudin from the docks.

9. Gem Encrusted Casket is received from Ping Fuzzlecutter as follows:

You say, 'I have all the bones.'

Valeron Dushire says 'Excellent! You are indeed worthy to bear the title of Holy Knight! Now, about the coffin. I have spoken with Ping Fuzzlecutter, outside the western gates. Ask him about the coffin and once it is made, bring it to Simon Aldicott of Marr. I shall have Simon meet you by the lake in the Commonlands after Ping gives you the coffin.'

Go to Ping Fuzzlecutter, outside the gates of West Freeport.

You say, 'What components?'

Ping gives you an Empty Gem Bag to combine the following items:

1. a diamond
2. a star ruby
3. a pearl
4. a fire emerald (you have to buy it from Brisha Fyrestone in Firiona Vie (ask her "What about the special fire emerald") and then give it to her husband to get the correct one -- there are two kinds of fire emeralds out there and this is the one that works)
5. a sapphire
6. a fire opal
7. 2 enchanted platinum bars

Combine the gems in the bag to craft a Full Gem Bag. Give this to Ping to receive a Gem Encrusted Casket.

Ping Fuzzlecutter smiles broadly as he rifles through the bag, then looks up at you and says, 'Bout time! Here is the coffin as promised.'

Put the dusty items in the casket and combine to craft A Gem Encrusted Casket. See Simon Aldicott in the West Commonlands.

You say, 'Hail, Simon Aldicott'

Simon Aldicott says, 'Hail and well met, ______. I am Simon Aldicott, a cleric in the service of Mithaniel Marr. I've been sent here to prepare a [funeral service] for one of our lost to join Marr in his kingdom.'

You say, 'What funeral service?'

Simon Aldicott says, 'Are you the brave knight whom Valeron sent to meet me here? If so, please place the remains in the coffin and seal it. Then hand me the coffin so that we may bless it in the waters of this lake.'

Give him the casket.

Simon Aldicott places the coffin in the water and begins to pray. 'Lord of Valor high above, take this knight, your loyal child, into thy kingdom and... by all that is holy! What is that thing?!'

A Tortured Revenant will spawn and attack you (some thanks eh?). Kill it and loot Revenant Ash (identifies as "Ash of Darak Lightforge").

A Tortured Revenant's corpse says 'At last I can rest..'

Give the Revenant Ash to Simon and he will reward you with your new spell.

Simon Aldicott says, ''Tis a sad thing. His soul was twisted to its current state somehow and he thought YOU were the foul Teir'Dal who destroyed him in the first place. But that is no matter..you have freed him to stand by Marr's side once more! Now, give me the ash so that I may finally put him to rest. In return for your valor I shall provide you with an ancient spell unknown to most Holy Knights of Marr.'

Simon Aldicott says, 'Thank you Knight. With this task accomplished, I shall reward you with this scroll. It is an ancient spell that only the holiest of knights may cast. Remember your duty!'
Your faction standing with Priests of Marr has been adjusted by 300.
Your faction standing with The Freeport Militia has been adjusted by -30.
Your faction standing with Knights of Truth has been adjusted by 45.

You gain experience!!

There is a part of the quest that the post here is inaccurate about: its Ping Fuzzlecutter portion. First what you do is say to ping " what components" and he gives you a bag, and tells you to fill it with gems and give it back. So put the gems in bag (make sure to separate the enchanted platium, don't stack them)combine give ping the bag back and bammm he gives you the coffin for simon aldicott and the rest is correct. I hope this helps.

A few hours ago I completed this quest, and decided to weigh in with my thoughts on the whole experience.

First, I'd like to again thank those who helped me finish this quest on AB server: For their assistance with killing the revenant, Moof, Taffen, Uuggly, Deky, Deillusional, and my wife Merrin. Thanks also go to United Kingdoms for raiding Kedge and killing Phin at an opportune moment, allowing me to get the fingerbone easily. Lastly, I'd like to thank the kind chanter who enchanted the plat bars for me (forgot your name already, but it was appreciated).

Now for my 2cp on the quest itself. First off, let me say that I retrieved most of the bones solo at 52. The one in Mistmoore was a little hairy at times, but I managed to fight my way in and back out without creating a single train :). Merrin (my 52 cleric wife) was along for the ride in Steamfont, but I'm pretty confident that I could have soloed that piece as well, since I only ended up needing to kill two Minotaur Guards and Meldrath+pet.

I'd like to take a little extra space to talk about the Kedge piece. First of all, I logged my 34 druid on and scouted the zone, and happily saw that a) Phin was not on track, and b) a guild was raiding the zone. I then logged my pally on and conversed a bit with the raiding guild, who informed me that Phin had been dead for about an hour. An ideal situation, if ever there was one. Just in case, I had Merrin duel me outside of Unrest and kill me. She ressed me back and I didn't loot the corpse. This takes alot of stress of you because even if you lose a corpse down in Kedge, it's only a naked corpse, and you don't risk your gear. I recommend this tactic to anyone who isn't getting this piece as part of a raid. Be sure to take a lightsource, though, because it is DARK in there.

I had a druid friend EB me, then we both went back into Kedge. Once there, she Superior Camo'ed me, and off I went. I got to Phin's room, swam in, conned a seahorse at the nearest star point of the pit, and it was indifferent. I swam down past it, all the way to the bottom. Just as I found the correct rock (look for the branch, as it makes finding the right rock MUCH easier), one of the seahorses above saw through the invis and attacked me. At this point, I grabbed the bone (looks like a bag) and barely got clear of the star pit before I died. But from here, it was easy because I didn't need to get close to the seahorses again to pull the corpse. A few minutes later, I got a new EB and Camo, swam in, dragged the corpse to zone (didn't want to loot it in Phin's room and become visible), and had Merrin res me. I then looted the fingerbone from my corpse, swam out, and looted my corpse outside of Unrest.

I bought all of the gems but two in Firiona Vie, as well as the two platinum bars. The fire opal wasn't sold in FV, so I bought it in North Freeport, and the diamond, obviously, was purchased from a player (I paid 400pp for it).

To get a suitable group to kill the revenant, I simply went to EC and shouted that I needed a few people to kill a 49 undead mob in WC. It took only a couple minutes for me to get the help of a 51 cleric, a 58 cleric, a 50 warrior, a 40 druid, and a 60 enchanter. Adding those to both myself and my wife's cleric, we were set. Everyone got into position maybe 15 meters from Simon Aldicott (be sure to keep evil characters clear of Simon). I walked over to Simon, turned in the completed coffin, and the revenant spawned about two meters to Simon's right (my left). This is a place where the quest differed for me compared to what others have reported. The revenant was indifferent to me, not KOS, and just stood there. So I went over and smacked him and pulled him back to our waiting forces. The chanter had to try a couple times to land a slow, but she got it, and the cleric blasts weren't doing full damage always, but overall, we did pretty well against him. He did manage to get one heal off, but he never LH'ed. Max he hit me for was 137. He did run when his health got low, which surprised me, but he didn't get far under our onslaught. After his death, I looted the ashes, turned them in to Aldicott, and got my spell.

Good luck to all the pallies out there questing for this baby. Some may say it isn't worth the effort, but I'll tell you, it sure made me feel good to finally scribe it into my book :)

I have everything in plave except the Kedge piece. Went to Kedge, Invis potion and eb and down I go.... The Swirlspines CAN see invis (or some of 'em can) as noted above.... I died. really not sure how to do this now, I guess I dive and grab the bag and pray to Brell that I make it back up above the lip. If not..... hope a necro wanders into Kedge? seems a bit sillt to make a 49th spell cost 1000pp and make the final piece htis difficult to grab, but that's just me

Stay safe

According to Illia's Bestiary, the Tortured Revenant is a level 48 to 49 paladin. I'm posting the link to the revenant since at the time of this posting, it's not listed here with the quest.

Simon Aldicot, in WC by the lake, will not respond to hails properly. No matter what you say to him, he wont let you get past ...[funeral service]...
"what funeral service", "whos funeral service", who's funeral service", "which funeral service", etc yada yada nothing worked. Others in my group remembered talking to Simon before and getting more of a response. Another Paly in the guild said Simon holds a conversation leading up to the prompt to turnin the coffin. I am not about to simply give my final coffin to Simon in the hopes the quest might work. Any advice?

I just finished this quest today and had the same problem with Simon...couldn't get past the [funeral service] part. I turned in my coffin to him anyway and Darak spawned. Took Darak down with myself (52 Paladin) and a 60 chanter.

I will try to answer this question by the end of the week. I got my diamond and phinny's bag this past weekend, dinged 49 last night. I will definately be taking this guy out some time this week, and I will look at the spell before I scribe it to see if it is no drop. Good luck.

Well, I did go back and kill the tortured revenant last night with the help of some friends and guildies. I checked the spell and it IS NOT No-Drop. It looks like any other spell scroll that should be able to be traded. As far as MQ for it, I think the only thing you would need is faction high enough with the Knights of Truth.

Long, boring quest... but finished it in what I'd estimate about 10 hours, including traveling time.

A few pointers, to save helth and time (and to save your life in Kedge), get yourself several invis potions (and use IVU in undead zones). I actually only used 1 in Kedge that lasted the entire time, but to be safe get a few-- nothing saw thru invis while I was in there.

Did the entire quest solo, except the last part. Had a 59 cleric friend with me, and trust me you need a cleric. Get stuns loaded, as the Tortured Reverant is a cleric, who nukes and heals himself. I'd say he resisted about half my stuns, but then again, half of them went thru, so it was worth it.

Cons blue to 53 (I waited so long because I realized it was gonna be a long boring quest), and hits for 100+.

Hope this helps... thank god it's done, I'd never do it again.

He may be a paladin, but he casts cleric spells. He was blue to me at level 50 so technically, if he was a paladin, and no higher than level 49, he shouldn't have any spell that I do not have.

I thought I was a badass and only brought with me a level 50 druid (thanks Tula) and a level 47 ranger (thanks Timberleen).

He did "lay hands" in the beginning of the fight. We got him down to half when his health zoomed back to full. He resisted every one of my stuns (how annoying), every one of my roots, and 90% of my fears. Fear did not last longer than 10 seconds. Druid and ranger managed to snare it three times out of at least 30 attempts.

He heals himself a lot. We would have killed him 10 times over but we could not interrupt his heals. Eventually we were all low on health and mana. He seemed to be at half health forever.

We had to take turns kiting him around the lake while the others med. Eventually we'd get him down to two bubs and then he would heal himself. I had all 4 of my stuns memmed and he resisted ALL of them. He'd heal himself then beat down on us. My AC is 936 and I was getting hit in the 100's.

After 10 minutes I was desperate. I called on my friend (Thanks Arta) who was leading a raid in UP at the time, and he very graciously logged off his cleric (thanks to those in UP raid for not getting too pissed) and onto his wizzy then ported into WC. It took all of his mana but we were finally able to kill it. In the end, I was at one bub of health and zero mana, the ranger was at one bub of health and zero mana, the druid was at two bubs of health and zero mana, and the wizzy was at two bubs of health and zero mana.

The moral of the story is to NOT underestimate this guy. He nukes, heals, hits hard, and has very high magic resistance. He does not have a lot of hit points, but will lay hands and heal himself with his endless supply of mana.

The smallest possible group (of high 40's, low 50's) should have no less that 4 people. You the paladin, at least one nuker, one healer, and one more person of any class. SoW is a must. If you can ge the help of people 55+, then group can be smaller.

I did it late at night, with no preparation, on the night our guild was raiding ToV, so I only had help from a few people in guild under 55. I was impatient, which is what usually gets me killed in the game. When we were all almost dead, and the revenant was laughing at us, it suddenly hit me that our deaths would have meant the loss of over 1000pp+ and several hours of time getting the items, not to mention exp loss for me and my guildmates. If not for the generosity of friends, I'd be one angry, stupid, hated paladin right now.

So bring along everyone you know. Let it be overkill. Laugh at him as 12 of your friends beat his *** into the ground. Just don't waste all that time and money like I almost did, only to get a gimp level 49 spell.

Oh yeah, by the way, this spell sucks. Don't bother questing it. Don't bother buying it in EC for 2kpp. A proc of 65 is meaningless. Instrument of Nife procs for 243 and you get it at level 30. 243 damage at level 30 (or any level) is signifigant. 65 damage at level 49 is useless. So it works verus any mob (dead or undead), big deal. Paladins should mostly be hunting undead anyway. If you are lucky, you will get two or three procs per fight. Wow, 10+ hours of no exp, and over 1000pp lost for a whopping 65dd proc. I would never do this again.

in my opinion this spell is well worth it , all the pieces are easy to get with exception of the kedge keep piece but as long as phinni isnt up this is relatively easy. yes it is alot of globe troting, but in the end you have a 65hp dd proc for any weapon you hold. even if it only procs once in a fight, that is 65hp more damage than you would have done w/o it. 1kpp is a drop in the bucket as far as plat goes and look at it this way, almost all the spells we get are cheap and can b bought off vendors in a cleric guild. most other classes spent way more plat on spells than this. as to your comment about IoN is better, yes IoN is better WHEN FIGHTING UNDEAD, this spell is used when not fighting undead. i dont know what you mean in saying paladins should only fight undead. im a 55 Knight and i have trouble finding good hunting where there is undead and with the great exp in PoP fighting non undead mobs this spell is well worth the time and effort

so, If you dont want to do more damage when fighting most mobs then dont bother getting this spell. but if you can spare a measly 1kpp, want to kill mobs faster thus saving mana and time, want to b able to have good agro in grps where you are MT, and maybe like questing things than DO get this spell

BTW if you have a druid friend who can help with ports out to PoK or someplace this quest definately doesnt take 10hours , i did it all solo except the final fight in about 6 hours and that includes getting a necro friend to run to KK to get my corpse (sacrificed myself to get fingerbone , bought invis potions , swam down into room phini spawns in , was seen by a see invis guardian swirlspine (phinni was not up) , poped devine aura , grabed the fingerbone and started to fight the seahorse , of course i died but i was expecting it and had already told the necro i would need a corpse summoned , got my corpse summoned , 75% resed myself and was off to get the rest of the pieces. in the end im only down 3% exp and a little over 1k but have a kickin spell) im pissed now i waited till i was 55 to get this spell cause it is truely great.

Well GL to you all in doing this quest , Do note that the fingerbone in the room is not on the bottem around the platform but on top of a rock up on a wall around the perimiter of phini's room , i looked around for a bit on the bottem while i had DA up and didnt find it , finaly after takin a bunch of hits and gettin spun around and figuring i was done for i swam up and saw that there were rocks on the sides of the room half way up the wall in little indents in the wall , was lucky to find the right one after using LoH (swirlspines whirl till you hurl type spell is a pain). If your lucky no seahorses will see invis , i had planed on trying to pacify them but when whoever killed phini did so they killed the upper deck of horses so the guardians were in the star where i couldnt get a good con before getting hit so i cant say if they resist pacify or not

Well, I agree with most of what you said (I wish I could find a place where I could hunt only undead. Boy do I miss Unrest.) except the part about 1000p being a drop in the bucket. 1000 plat is a lot of money for some.

At 48, with all of the peices in hand except the one from Kedge, all I have to do is come up with a couple hundred more plat. I have never looted any of the gems required so I have no choice but to buy them all.

This is a crappy spell for the cost in time and money, but I'm a quester by nature and will finish it anyway. Ive been collecting the peices for the last 20 or so levels while i was in the various zones for xp or other reasons. For many I doubt it will be worth the time wasted ditch diving all over Norrath if they are already high level and starting from scratch; unless they pick up the peices while in/near the zones for other reasons.

On the other hand, If I had known the cost of the gems and platinum bars in the beginning I would have probably destroyed the few peices I had already collected to reclaim some bank slots. I'm glad I didnt. Now, it's not difficult to imagine myself paying 800-1000 plat for a good weapon with a 65dd proc. It is worth the same to put that proc on any weapon. It will be great on a mace of the fallen crusader.

Hope this will help. Make sure Phinny is not up. Get a mage friend who knows kedge and has Call of Heros. They swim to spot just below ledge to phinny room and summon you there. Bone is on top of a rock in a cubby hole on the southern wall. Trick I was taught hit F10 and then Inventory and all that gloomy water disappears. You need to be invis for bone grab, and grabbing bone will not cause invis to drop. If you get into trouble have mage CoH you and try again. Once grabbed return to stage spot, mage swimms to zone and summons you. Danger over. Helps to have an EB item. You will need one alot. I have Amulet of the grey wastes from moon. Kill TaskMaster in Echo Caverns for three sshisar organs, take them to Katta and turn them in to Drenick Garrison.

Just finished this quest yesterday. Did it all in less than 24 hours, but it really helped to have the services of a Druid, as well as a level 60 Paladin who knew exactly where each piece was. As everyone said, the toughest piece to get is Phinny's, but again, it helped greatly to have someone who knew Kedge really well, and the trick to con the seahorses while invis, and just go to the opposite side of the one that isn't indifferent.

I recruited a 51 Druid, 53 Necro, 51 Shaman, 51 Enchanter, 45 Wizard and 58 Necro, in addition to myself, a 51 Paladin, to kill the tortured revenant. Was OVERkill - I was the only tank and I didn't even have to be healed during the fight. We also had the 2 necros pets, and a shaman pet, and he really didn't seem to resist much, though I heard that fear didn't work on him. Ironically, he proced Divine might a couple of times on me, even though he didn't have time to cast it. I'd like the spell better if it stacked with instrument of nife, but any spell that increases our damage against non-undead is fine with me.

Just finished this quest around 3/2/02. Its a pretty nice spell, although the gems and plat bars will cost you nearly 1k plat without lots of cha/faction. The hardest part is of course getting the finger bone from Phinny's lair; I myself used a shiny brass idol and ran in there to grab it after Phinny was killed, which probably wasnt necessary as the seahorses didnt hurt me too much. After I got it I went up to the upper floor and let the seahorses finish keeling me, then had someone drag corpse and rez me (it was on a raid).

Also, for the bone in Mistmoore, you can invis and go into the garden np but there are undead vampires in there so you will have to fight through the greens to get the bone (all of them were green at 51). Be careful not to aggro too many, lots of them can hurt. The cave in Everfrost is really big; I just wandered around until I found it, then wandered around until I found the way out again hehe. Make sure to IVU to avoid aggroing Miragul (he wanders around in there).

The phrase you have to say to Ping is "Tell me about the coffin..", and the skeleton at the end of the quest is a gimp. The rest of the quest is pretty much self-explanitory.

Fight with Darak
# Feb 19 2002 at 1:32 PM Rating: Decent
Just another view on the final fight with Darak ~ I did it yesterday with myself (52 Paladin), a level 60 Paladin, and a level 50 Ranger. Actually had a cleric there but he never needed to heal any of us :P

Observations

Wanted to contribute some observations on some of the bones. The ones I don't comment on are very easy and existing descriptions provided in other comments are good.

1. Dusty Skull - Meldrith is a necro in the back of the Minotaur caves and he's no push over. Easiest way to do it solo: get a SOW, memorize where the zone is, rush in, grab the bag in his room, run out, zone. He will cast engulfing darkness, if it takes and he and/or his guards get on you, root them and run. The bag is real obvious lying on the floor in his room.

2. Dusty Ribcage - Mistmoore Castle: I did this with a group. There are a ton of mobs between the entrance and the garden. I've read some of the descriptions on here of success using druid/wizzy partner with camo, SOW, and evac. Sounds feasible. Solo attempt? No way. Not at 49 or even low 50s. MAYBE with a SOW, and balls of steel. When you get to the garden (I went through the Piano room to get out there) turn right, there's a little fountain in the back corner, it's back in there on the floor.

3. Dusty Backbone - Unrest: there is a pit that has festering hags and skeles along the way to the very bottom, that's not it. Keep going. It's at the VERY bottom. There's a dorf ghost that spawns along with a tentacled terror (or similar). Below them, is another pit and it's on the floor there. Some more mobs at the bottom. I was able to solo the whole thing up to the dorf ghost and tentacled guy. Neither alone is too bad for a 49 pally but fighting them together was hard. By luck a 50 wizzy dropped in and helped me.

4. Dusty Jawbone - underwater cave in Everfrost. There are holes in the ice along that frozen river in everfrost, that's how you get in. The river has a "Y" at the north end. Go to the northwest portion of the Y. You'll see the cave entrance at the very end of the river, under the ice. Now back up about 100 feet and you'll find (although it's not easy to see) a hole in the ice. Dive, swim, zone into the cave, it's dry in there. My swim skill was 175 and was just at the limit of my breath when I zoned. To be safe, grab a coule of summoned EB stones from a mage. Go to the right once you're in, there's a 60 necro Lich in there and his pet. You want to avoid him. Heh. I read a description that said, "It's on the floor in the room with the big symbol.." Well there is more than one room with a big symbol on the wall. It's not hard to find, just stay away from the "left" or "west" side of the zone.

5. Dusty Broken Sword - go all the way to the back of North Kaladim, where that little mining operation is, where there are little traintracks that go across the water. It's in the water under those tracks. I read such vastly different description on here of where that one is in Kaladim, things like "in the fountain by the Pally guild", "in the water by the Rogue guild". Well maybe the spawn site changes or people are trying to throw you off. Don't know. If was definately where I describe it and nowhere near these other sites.

6. Dusty Fingerbone - Kedge Keep, Phinny's Lair. The solo attempts on this are very admirable. Way to go. You guys have HUGE ones. I was waaay to fraidy cat to try this one alone. I happened to get invited on a Kedge raid and that's how I got it. After Phinny and his guards were killed, I got a bard to invis us and swam down there. It's so hard to find that stupid little bag, the Lair is pretty big and there are rocks all over the place, all the while the Guards are re-spawning, you're heart is pounding, hands sweating, lol it was INTENSE. The bag was not at the bottom of the lair. It's on top of a rock outcrop on the side of one of the walls. There are more than one rock outcroppings on the side. This particular one also has a tree branch sticking out.

The finale:
When you turn in the gem encrusted casket to Simon by the lake in WC, he takes it, then says something like, "..wait, what is THAT!!" You look around and you'll see a "Tortured Revenant" standing a short distance away. He's not huge or anything, looks just like a the regular skeles wandering around many zones. I had about 8 guildies there to help and it was overkill.

Reward:
Well, first thing I noticed when I cast the spell...it wouldn't take hold. I cast it repeatedly, with alter skill at 235, and burned a lot of mana before I realized it was a stacking issue. After some experimenting I discovered that is does NOT stack with Instrument of Nife - the undead proc spell.

What does it do? Well, depending on your DEX and other issues, it periodically does 65DD to your target. For me, and I have pretty low DEX right now, it procs about 2-3 times per mob. That's about 130-195 extra damage per encounter. I have not tried it yet with an uber dex buffs, but I bet it's much more impressive then.

Excellent post!

By the way, your post inspired me to try this solo at level 50.

First, to earn my balls of steel:
I agroed every friggin mob between the entrance and the graveyard. I fought all of them until they all dropped at my feet (yay riposte and self haste).

Med up and ran down to the pit. Killed everything in there (bah, calm sucks). Med and healed and made my way up to the castle entrance. Killed the mobs there and on the way. Damn nukers, had to heal and med.

Killed the two guards at the entrance, then the ones at the stairs. Made my way outside piano room and killed the garg and guard. Healed and med.

Opened piano room door and had two on me. Killed them, and took the third mob inside the room. Healed and med.

Now it gets interesting... Drank a charge of SoW from a potion, then RAN into the courtyard, into the fountain room, grabbed the bone, and ran the hell outa there. I agroed every single mob in MM to the zone. No one was in MM at the time so no harm done.

Got outa there with three bubs of health, my bone, Lay hands still up, and my balls of steel intact.

Second, to earn my Huge balls of steel:
Went into KK with two Eb potions and three invis potions. Again, NO ONE in the entire zone. First time there too so getting around was a bit of a hassle. Found my way to Phinny's lair and luckily he wasn't up. Conned a few seahorses and went down. Found the bone and swam back up.

This is where I got stupid. Didn't con the seahorses on the way up and one of them saw throught invis. Next thing I know, I'm being smited and spun all over the place. I knew I was gonna die, so I tried to make it to the ledge to avoid the seahorses on the CR.

Thank goodness I kept an extra invis and eb potion in the bank. Went down there and dragged my corpse to zone. Rezzed to recover 50% and high-tailed it outa there.

I hate this quest, but trying to do parts of it solo was cool.

How to get the Phinny bone
# Feb 17 2002 at 10:20 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, from the ledge where you camp to get Phinny and the Seahorses pulled to (should be the ledge you first enter from the previous room)... When its clear at the bottom, go straight down and take a left, there should be a pair of rocks on the wall (not on the floor) and there is a bag on one of them, grab it and get the hell out of there...

I watched a paladin swim into Phinnys room - Phinny WAS up - loot the bone and leave without ever gaining aggro off a single mob in the entire zone. Phinny is an animal. Level 9 Druid spell Invis to Animals gets you in and out with supreme ease.

I did this whole quest in 2 days, hardest part what Kedge bone. I just followed a raid down and grabed it when they had killed phin. We took down the tortured guy with 47 paladin (me) , 60 paladin, 60 druid, 60 rogue, 60enchanter, and 60 necromancer. Yes I realize this is super overkill =) fight lasted 45 seconds....

Killing the skele

I'm a 50th pally, and finally finished the quest last night. Here are the folks I rounded up: 54 mage, 51 cleric, two 50 pallies, 49 mage, 49 wizzie, 48 druid, 45 ranger, and 40 necro. It was MAJOR overkill. Better safe than sorry though, as hard as it is to get the bone from Kedge. The skele was lvl 50. He did have a lot of hp's, but he never hit me harder than 137, and that was only a few times, other than that he hit in the average 80's I'd say.

Here's how I got the Kedge Keep bone. After several failed attempts (deaths, lol), I went with a druid friend (my hero) who knew exactly where the bag was below. He gave us invis vs. animals. We went to the south side ledge in Phinny's room and went straight down into the star. I got aggroed, he did not. I followed him to the bag, grabbed it, and he evaced us out. When u go straight down from the middle of the south ledge, you'll need to go west just a little and the bag is on a big boulder. Don't have details though, was trying to get out of there ASAP. If you do it like this, don't wait till the last minute to LoH, cause if they get you spinning in a vortex, you're SOL.

take at least 2 more melees with you, and at least 2 healers. If you can take a group of 6 (4 melee, 2 heal) you shouldn't have any problems. We tried a few minutes ago with the paladin (50), a 49 druid and a 52 shaman. Got him to half and the pally died. Bottom line is make sure you have enough people with you, even if you don't need the 6 people it's better to be safe than sorry.

i had a lil trouble getting the bag from ping, damn i hate that lil guy :( anyhow the phrase is "what about the coffin.." dont forget the 2 dots! it could be one dot but something as trivial as that taking up hours of my time sitting at that lil turds tent saying all kinds of crazy crap trying to get the damn bag kinda got under my skin. hope this relieves a bit of stress for others.

Just so you know the thing to say to ping is the following: "Tell me about the coffin.." you must have 2 periods or it will not work.

OK, I have all the bones and gems.. all the gems go into the bag ping gives you..then hit COMBINE.. It becomes a sealed Gem Bag.. give the Gem bag back to ping.. (I did not say anything I just gave it to him) and he will give you a gem encrusted coffin.. place all the bones into the coffin and hit COMBINE and presto.. you have a sealed gem encrusted coffin.. Just wanted to clear that part of the quest up.. with all the time and plat put into getting to this point... As for the KK bone..I took my level 15 druid with sow, camo, enduring breath down 8-10 times to learn the exact route.. I would even con the sea spines.. then go to the very upper edge of phinny's room and gate out (I was bound in DK at the cave for Unrest).. When I would find all 5 of the Sea Swrells con'ed indiffrent.. I would gate out and then take my pally down to get the finger bone.. (1st problem) After taking a potion for Enduring Breath, SOW, and Invs. (just before zoning into KK) I made it half way down when my invs spell went out.. I used my second one... 2/3's the way there it went out again.. when I tryed to use the 3rd potion..I got a message "that my body had too much <something..cant remember> and I could not take another potion.. so..my nearly naked pally was soon eaten by sharks... So.. my point.. get buffs if you can.. rather than depend on potions... I finally ended up going in while a guild was killing Phinny and got the bone and gated out with a gate potion... My final 2-cents.. several times my druid (ginny pig) was zapped by the Sea Swrlles EVEN WHEN they were indiffrent.. I would scroll back to see if my invs wore off or what ever...but nothing had changed... So, in the argument regarding seeing through invs. or not.. bottom line... don't use too many potions and it's a crap shoot even when all 5 con indiffrent... good luck brothers.. you will need it...
