Diggs Duggun is a dwarf that runs around the maze.

You say, 'Hail, Diggs Duggun'

Diggs Duggun says ''ail, dere! Ain'tcha a sight fer me sore eyes! I knows dat we're strangers an' all, but might I ask a [boon] of ye?'

You say, 'What boon?'

Diggs Duggun says 'Well, me pickaxe is blunted awfully bad and me ale supplies are dangerously low. If'n ye would be kind enough t' get me a new pick and a couple o' bottles o' dwarven ale, I would be f'rever in yer debt.'

Give him a Pick (found at the vendor at the Kaladim Bank) and two Dwarven Ales (not stacked).

Diggs Duggun drinks one of the ales and burps loudly then says 'By Brell's Beard! Yer a lifesaver, ya are! 'ere, take dis bone I've found 'ere in dis maze. Looks human ta me and I'm thinkin that a proper burial is in order. Freeport's the closest place dat has one o Marr's temples. I'm thinkin dis was one o' his Holy Knights by da look o' da tattered tunic I found it wrapped in. I'm thinkin Valeron might be havin an interest in it.'

Receive A Dusty Old Leg Bone.

Now go find a Paladin guildmaster by the name of Valeron Dushire. He is in West Freeport, approximate location -1120, +495, -126 (inside the Hall of Truth, the building in the north-northwest part of West Freeport).

You say, 'Hail, Valeron Dushire'

Valeron Dushire says 'I am Sir Valeron Dushire, leader of the order of the Knights of Truth. If your soul shines with purity and strength, I urge you to join our order. The might of Mithaniel Marr stands behind all who join. Soon that might will help us free this city from the tyranny of the [Freeport Militia].'

Give him the Dusty Old Leg Bone. You must be indifferent or he will simply hand it back.

Valeron Dushire says 'Hail, adventurer! I... what's this? Where did you get this? Never mind.. I.. I never thought we would find [him]!'

You say, 'Who is Diggs Duggun?'

Valeron Dushire says 'According to this crest on the tunic, you have recovered one of the bones of a lost Paladin [Hero].'

You say, 'What hero?'

Valeron Dushire says 'His name has been long lost but his legend lives on in every young knight who aspires to continue his fight. He attempted to quell an evil that resided within Kithicor, perverting nature itself. Much to his relief, it was an earthly foe he fought against and not a denizen summoned from the planes of evil. Then, suddenly, he was surrounded by dozens of dark elves. He was captured and taken to the Dead to be experimented upon and had his soul twisted by vile necromantic magics. Then the Tier'Dal cast his remains to the winds. Where they landed, no one knew, until now. You have found one of his bones. I hereby charge you with a Holy Quest to bring this Hero's bones back for a burial with honors. Do you [accept], knight?'

You say, 'I accept.'

Valeron Dushire says 'Good! I knew you would. It is one of the highest honors one can receive. Your quest will not be easy for I know not where his other bones lay. A spy of ours within Neriak was able to surmise that six of his bones along with his sword and shield were scattered throughout Norrath. You must search far and wide to find the remaining pieces, as you already have one.. Do not give up. It is now your sacred duty. Once you have retrieved all eight pieces, come back to me and inform me that you [have all the bones].'

You now need to collect six bones, a shield, a sword and a coffin. These are the items and locations:

1. A Dusty Old Skull - Minotaur caves in Steamfont in Meldrath's room.

2. A Dusty Old Leg Bone - You received this from talking to Diggs Duggun in Beholder's Maze.

3. A Dusty Ribcage - The Garden in Castle Mistmoore.

4. A Dusty Old Backbone - Ghost Room Pit in Unrest.

5. A Dusty Old Jawbone - Underwater Ice Cave in Everfrost.

6. Dusty Old Finger Bones - Inside Phinigel Autropos's room in Kedge Keep on a rock next to the wall. Exact Location is neg 147, pos 145, neg 251.

7. A Dusty Broken Sword - In the mines of Kaladim in the water.

8. A Dusty Broken Shield - On a ledge on right cliffs in Erudin from the docks.

9. Gem Encrusted Casket is received from Ping Fuzzlecutter as follows:

You say, 'I have all the bones.'

Valeron Dushire says 'Excellent! You are indeed worthy to bear the title of Holy Knight! Now, about the coffin. I have spoken with Ping Fuzzlecutter, outside the western gates. Ask him about the coffin and once it is made, bring it to Simon Aldicott of Marr. I shall have Simon meet you by the lake in the Commonlands after Ping gives you the coffin.'

Go to Ping Fuzzlecutter, outside the gates of West Freeport.

You say, 'What components?'

Ping gives you an Empty Gem Bag to combine the following items:

1. a diamond
2. a star ruby
3. a pearl
4. a fire emerald (you have to buy it from Brisha Fyrestone in Firiona Vie (ask her "What about the special fire emerald") and then give it to her husband to get the correct one -- there are two kinds of fire emeralds out there and this is the one that works)
5. a sapphire
6. a fire opal
7. 2 enchanted platinum bars

Combine the gems in the bag to craft a Full Gem Bag. Give this to Ping to receive a Gem Encrusted Casket.

Ping Fuzzlecutter smiles broadly as he rifles through the bag, then looks up at you and says, 'Bout time! Here is the coffin as promised.'

Put the dusty items in the casket and combine to craft A Gem Encrusted Casket. See Simon Aldicott in the West Commonlands.

You say, 'Hail, Simon Aldicott'

Simon Aldicott says, 'Hail and well met, ______. I am Simon Aldicott, a cleric in the service of Mithaniel Marr. I've been sent here to prepare a [funeral service] for one of our lost to join Marr in his kingdom.'

You say, 'What funeral service?'

Simon Aldicott says, 'Are you the brave knight whom Valeron sent to meet me here? If so, please place the remains in the coffin and seal it. Then hand me the coffin so that we may bless it in the waters of this lake.'

Give him the casket.

Simon Aldicott places the coffin in the water and begins to pray. 'Lord of Valor high above, take this knight, your loyal child, into thy kingdom and... by all that is holy! What is that thing?!'

A Tortured Revenant will spawn and attack you (some thanks eh?). Kill it and loot Revenant Ash (identifies as "Ash of Darak Lightforge").

A Tortured Revenant's corpse says 'At last I can rest..'

Give the Revenant Ash to Simon and he will reward you with your new spell.

Simon Aldicott says, ''Tis a sad thing. His soul was twisted to its current state somehow and he thought YOU were the foul Teir'Dal who destroyed him in the first place. But that is no matter..you have freed him to stand by Marr's side once more! Now, give me the ash so that I may finally put him to rest. In return for your valor I shall provide you with an ancient spell unknown to most Holy Knights of Marr.'

Simon Aldicott says, 'Thank you Knight. With this task accomplished, I shall reward you with this scroll. It is an ancient spell that only the holiest of knights may cast. Remember your duty!'
Your faction standing with Priests of Marr got better.
Your faction standing with The Freeport Militia got worse.
Your faction standing with Knights of Truth got better.

You gain experience!!

Found the Dusty Old Fingerbones from the raid room you get with Agent of Change. Hit this place up after a raid night, stomp it for mage epics and get your finger bones. Easy.

Why go to all the trouble of doing this anymore when you can buy the spell in PoK for 33pp? All of the gems and platinum bars to make the casket are worth more than that. It's no longer worth doing.

This quest is still worth doing on a progression server during Kunark.

Remembering that Diggs Duggun said that "Valeron might be havin an interest in it," I gave him the leg bone instead of mentioning Diggs' name, which gives this sequence of events instead:
  • Give Valeron Dushire the Dusty Old Leg Bone
  • Valeron Dushire says 'Hail, adventurer! I... what's this? Where did you get this? Never mind.. I.. I never thought we would find [him]!
  • You gain party experience!!
  • You say, 'him who?'
And now you're at the same point in the quest that saying Diggs' name gets you, but with extra flavor.

There really is not an indication that Diggs is Darak. Diggs is a dwarf who found a bone wrapped in a tattered tunic. Darak Lightforge is the paladin who was torn into those eight pieces and spread across the world.

"Who is Diggs Duggun" comes from an incorrect assumption and should not be part of this walkthrough.

I tried "him who" before I read this comment, and it worked perfecty. I think "him who" is the proper response, not mentioning a random NPC who found the bones.

For any returning player or new player who is doing this quest: the reference in the walk through to Valeron Dushire's location is incorrect. There no longer is a "North Freeport" and hasn't been for years (thanks Sony - Freeport is a bloody mess now!). Valeron is in the Hall of Truth. The Hall of Truth (Paladin guild hall) is now at the Northern edge (slightly towards the west) of West Freeport.

His location inside the building is at neg 1122, pos 495, neg 126.

(The reference in the quest thread to North Freeport threw me for a loop today as a returning player, so I wanted to spare someone else the grief!)

You can get these without fighting if you are careful and if Phinigel is not up. You need some invis potions, stalking probe, a gate potion, and have divine Aura ready to use.

Here's how I did it. I invised myself then took a stalking probe and conned each of the seahorses, there are 4. The one on the south side, over the fingers, was the one who saw invis. I swam to the North side and swam down behind the seahorse on the north side to the bottom. I stayed on the bottom and swam to the south side. You must stay on the bottom or you will agro the seahorse! On the south wall, in the wall there is a gap with a boulder in it. The finger bones are on top of it. I swam up just far enough to get the finger bones. I was amost clear, but messed up and swam up too far. The seahorses attacked. I put up divine Aura, cast a gate potion and got out of there. If you stay on the bottom, and stay away from the one seahorse that sees invis, you can probably get out without having to use DA and a gate potion, but it never hurts to have a back up plan. I did this a few times, until I can up with this plan. I did have a cleric friend along who helped me fight into Phinigel's room. I'm not sure of the see-invis seahorse is always on the south side or not so make sure to invis first and them con them to see which one it is.

12/2/05. Brisha Fyrestone's location has changed. Since the dark elves took over FV, all the nice folks had to move out. On the map you can see a ovalish shaped area on the way to the Swamp of No Hope. All the good folks are in there. Brisha's loc is pos 908, neg 3332. Her husband, Drake Mountainstorm is right beside her.

I used an invis position to get past the golums and the darkies and got through just fine.

What a long and hard quest for a lvl45 Paladin . I can't believe my invis lasted long enough to get the Dusty Old Fingerbones in Kedge Keep , I also am very glad that I brought a lvl68 Cleric with me when I had to fight A Tortured Revenant as he conned light blue to the Cleric . I was disappointed to find that the spell Divine Might did not stack with the spell Instrument of Nife .
I am glad its over!

The ribcage has been moved out into Lesser Faydark, it's on top of the stone rings that the Fay drakes inhabit. If you climb up the centre stone slab (it's slanted, no need for levi or ninja acrobatics), you'll see it as a ground spawn (bag) on top of the stone.

I have worked on this for days. i have gotten all the gems and the special fire emerald and i got the empty gem bag and put them all in there and tried to combine but it said you cannont combine these components in this container type. I even had the enchanted platinum bars unstacked why is it not combining? Do I have to take the enchanted platinum bars out and and leave just the gems in there?

Completion!
# Apr 24 2005 at 3:16 PM Rating: Decent
Just completed this quest, took a while because I was awaiting the vanishing of Fableds from Kedge Keep, all the bones were pretty simple to collect based on the info here. Except of course, the kedge keep one. Noone really mentions that you must click the flowerpot to access Phinny's room! I spent 2 hours down there on my rogue SaH'ing everywhere with DMF searching. Finally tried clicking a corpse missing and clicked the flowerpot. LOL. Well i went down and located the bag, its in the southern part of the star on a rock, (***** locations, i hate em), so I commenced to buy a horde of invis potions and logged in my paladin, came down fully expecting a life threatening dash towards the bag before death and a rez. Nothing saw through invis, I Conned both seahorses and mermaids, all indifferent, i quickly dashed down regardless, snatched the bone and made my way out with no problem and only one invis potion wasted! Took 2 more potions to invis thru freeport (kos to guards) to chat with pally gm, then down to ping (already did the gems of course), got coffin, combined, off to WC where me and a 59 ranger (i'm 59 also) duo'd the guy, I honestly thought it would be a tough battle judging from the other posts. Granted I'm 59 now and all, but I really thought it would be trouble, ranger tanked while I memmed and casted Nife (oops forgot beforehand), i healed us both once, feared it after she snared it, a couple seconds it was dead, took maybe 45 seconds. Turn in ash, finally got spell. I must say it was a lot easier (albeit expensive as hell) than was made out, probably harder at 49, but I skipped it and didnt even remember it till 58 when i saw another pally procing on normal mobs LOL. That's all Goodluck all.

Some one had made this post

"The ribcage spawns in lesser faydark now.
it can be found at the druid rings, on top of the pillar that is slanted just enough to walk up"

there are 15 labled areas, on eqatlas regarding lesser faydark, none of which mentions "druid rings" anyone clearify this?
RE: Ribcage

I don’t think I have ever been so frustrated or confused with a game before. This quest is a pain but doable up to kedge keep. I have died 4 times there now and each time I go I make no progress. I have read every back post here, and have a print out of the eqatlasmap in hand, and it does not come close to helping. I have come to the conclusion that the Eqatlasmap sucks. I have read post after post be carful of the sea horses, they can see invis. I would pay 100 p just to see a seahorse.

I would like to mention the first time I went down there, I had with me a 61 druid, 66 enchanter and 66 mage, and we were able to kill the mermaids guarding a tunnel downward, (since I was following I am not sure where we were on the map, I think these mermaids are in there forties. 51 pally not sure if I could take one myself) After killing the 4 mermaids we swam down and though another passage, there was a room with a mermaid on each side, 4 more, One of these mermaids was “the Fabled Estrella” who conned a nice dark shade of red to a 66 mage. The druid managed to port us out before we all died.

on my return visits

I enter kk swim down though the pit to the second floor marked “A” on map. swim south go down the shaft again, marked “B” down to the next level. Then swim east to what is mark “12" on the eqatlas map called the cross roads. There is a Bul Shark sitting there. Now anyone looking at the eqatlas map can see where shaft “e” is -“To Phinnies room..almost right next to 12...but guess what not there. I can swim in to room 13 easy...there is a shaft that if you swim up (there are two levels when you swim up one will bring you back around to the room “12" the other one-) you come to the base of a plant stand, there are gates for doors and you open the gate and swim out, you will see that you were inside a plant stand, there is a room full of mermaids....oh by the way mermaids see invis, and since there is 6 of them all bunched together,,,well it does not take long to die. Could this death mermaid room be room #14 on eqatlas map? If so, how could no one mention 6 mermaids that can see invis?? Oh and don’t think of running the first thing they do is root ya. And I have a gate potion, but, since there is 6 of them, you die a lot faster then you can gate.

I have swam north from the cross roads room, room 12 and you can only go so far before you run into the same problem, 6 mermaids in a small room that see invis.

I understand this spell is really not worth all of this. But it’s a matter of principle now. I got all the gems, all the dusty stuff, sitting in my bank. I am writing this in hopes someone will give me the missing piece of this puzzle.

why has no one has mentioned groups of see invis mermaids? If someone can give very, very specific directions to Phinnys room? Is there a better map out there then eqatlas map? Perhaps I am just going the wrong direction? It seems to me this part of the quest is just flat out ridicules, groups of 40 something mermaids and a level 70 plus guarding the way there, and I have not even seen these seahorses that everyone talks about, never mind Phinny!; who by the way according to the druid was up and waiting for us. All this for an outdated level 49 pally spell? I mean for what I have seen, the new epic is just as hard, you would need a raiding party size to get this part . And only if you could find the way. Someone please tell me where I am going wrong. Or is the joke on me.

I did this last night, so maybe I can help. http://www.rpgexpert.com/4016.html

New Loc for Fire Emerald
# Mar 27 2005 at 5:20 PM Rating: Decent
For anyone who's tried the quest since the revamp of FV, the NPC's for the special fire emerald have moved. The docks only have dragoons and golems now. Theres a new outpost where all the elven guards and merchant npcs have set up shop. The entrance to the new outpost is at +650, -1990, it took the place of the drolvarg underground it seems. Straight through there youll come into an opening with a bunch of small buildings, thats where all the npc's are including Brisha Firestone. Quest logs worked the same, just ask "what about the special fire emerald?" and she will refer you to Drake to get it.

Well this is one for sony since FV is now a land of Dark Elfs and of course they hate us Paladins there is no need to try to get this spell since we have to go to FV for that special Fire Emerald soon as you appear since that is what you have to do to even hail or trade with an npc you will have every Dark Elf in FV after you including the Golems.
