Call of the Forsaken Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This group mission begins with Noxhil V`Sek (click for map image) in Neriak Fourth Gate.

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Level 95
- Completed "The Missing Scroll"
- Completed "Fourth Gate Investigation"
- Completed "Cautious Recruitment"
- Completed "Houses of Thex" (group mission)
- Must be illusioned as a Dark Elf

Steps & Summary

- Say "band" to request the task and "meet" to zone in.

Gain entry to the library 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)
Obtain the Scroll of G'Han 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)
Open the chest 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

- Note: The NPCs Kavi and Xavier have beneficial auras that mitigate spell and melee damage, so it's in your interest to keep them alive (they can be buffed and healed). (There is an achievement for allowing them to die, however.)

FIRST PHASE:
- Inside the instance, say "ready" to Prince Tarant Thex to begin the event.
- After a short delay, two mobs spawn ("a spiteful lich" and "a spiteful shade").
--- "a spiteful lich" has a damage aura around it and is snareable/mezzable.
--- "a spiteful shade" casts a 10k spell damage shield when low in health (is mezzable).
- There a minimum number of mobs that must be killed to progress the task, and until you meet that requirement, you'll always have at least two mobs up at a time.
- Mobs called "a spiteful specter" spawn randomly upon lich and shade deaths. These also must be killed.
- Specters will focus their DPS on the friendly NPCs (Kavi and Xavier).
- Once you've completed this step, you'll have a short break.

SECOND PHASE:
- Meet Prince Tarant Thex in the upper floor of the library.
- A script unfolds, and then he goes aggro along with two Dreadguard adds.
- The Prince summons two Dreadguard adds every 20% health.
- All adds must die before the event can be completed.
- Dreadguard swordsmen are charmable.
- Dreadguard conjurors cast AE damage spells.
- Kill all adds and bring the Prince to 3% health for the win.

Requesting the Task

You say, 'Hail, Noxhil V`Sek'

Noxhil V`Sek says 'The prince has informed me that the time is nigh for infiltrating the library. I will leave it up to you whether to proceed with a small [band] of friends or a large [force]. Otherwise, you may recruit a [group] for infiltrating the library or let me know if you are [interested] in keeping the scroll out of the hands of the King and Queen.'

You say, 'I have a small band'

Noxhil V`Sek says 'Let us hope you are up to the task. I will arrange for you to [meet] with Prince Tarant when you are ready.'

You have been assigned the task 'Hate Rising'.

The prince has agreed to help you gain entry to the library and help you acquire the Scroll of G'Han. He does not wish either the king or queen to have it as it would upset the balance of power in Neriak.

You say, 'We'll meet him there'

Noxhil V`Sek says 'Success unto you, _____.'

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Neriak - Fourth Gate.

PHASE ONE: Triggering the Event

Speak with Prince Tarant Thex to begin the event ("ready"). He and his two cohorts will move to the library door, then two adds will spawn (1x "a spiteful lich" + 1x "a spiteful shade").

You say, 'Hail, Prince Tarant Thex'

Prince Tarant Thex says, in Dark Elvish, 'I have managed to obtain the key to the library, though its caretakers will likely discover it missing soon. I know not what we will find inside so be prepared for anything. Let me know when you are [ready] to enter. You may also [leave] if you are too cowardly to continue.'

You say, 'Ready!'

Prince Tarant Thex says, in Dark Elvish, 'Very well. Let us proceed.'

The three NPCs path up to the library entrance, at which point you see:

Prince Tarant Thex leaps backwards as he shouts 'Get back, there's a spell on it!'

PHASE ONE: The Spiteful Undead

"a spiteful lich" is snareable and mezzable. It has an aura around it called "Lich Touch":

Lich Touch: Single Target, Cold (-650)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 6500

It also casts "Icy Rain":

Icy Rain: Targeted AE 30', Cold (-999)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 15000

"a spiteful shade" is mezzable. It procs "Shade Touch":

Shade Touch: Single Target, Cold (-999)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 1500

When low in health, they cast "Shield of Spite" on themselves:

Shield of Spite: Self 0', Unresistable (-650)
1: Spell Damage Shield (10158)

Occasionally, as you kill the above mobs, you'll get "a spiteful specter" spawn. These mobs focus their DPS on Kavi and Xavier, so if you're keeping them alive, be sure to pay attention to their health while a specter is up. The specters don't cast any AEs.

Kill a certain amount of "spiteful" mobs to progress the task.

Prince Tarant Thex mutters to himself 'Nothing is ever easy when mother is involved.' He surveys the scene around him and says 'We must must move quickly now. I can give you a minute to rest but no more.'

PHASE TWO: Encounter in the Library

Next, find Prince Tarant Thex upstairs. A script will unfold:

Prince Tarant Thex shouts, in Dark Elvish, 'This is it!'

Prince Tarant Thex says, in Dark Elvish, 'And now that I have it, you are no longer necessary.'

Prince Tarant Thex shouts, in Dark Elvish, 'Dreadguards!'

Two Dreadguards enter the area (not aggro yet).

Prince Tarant Thex smiles as he says 'You see, I had no intention of allowing you to possess the scroll as I have already promised it to my love. Once I have silenced you, I will deliver it to her.'

Prince Tarant Thex shouts, in Dark Elvish, 'Dreadguards, forward!'

All three mobs are now aggro.

"Dreadguard conjuror" casts two AEs:

Molten Beam: Area Hatelist 30', Fire (-999)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 15000

Molten Rain: Targeted AE 30', Fire (-999)
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 15000

"Dreadguard swordsman" casts no spells.

The Prince summons two additional Dreadguard adds (one of each type) every 20% health. All adds have to be killed before Prince Tarant Thex can be defeated.

Once all adds are dead and the Prince reaches 3% health, you've won the event.

Event Completion

The Prince falls to the ground, seemingly unconscious, and Lanys T`Vyl appears...

Lanys T`Vyl steps out from the shadows.

Lanys T`Vyl says, in Dark Elvish, 'It looks like I arrived just in time to save you.'

Lanys T`Vyl quickly searches the prince.

Lanys T`Vyl says in a sultry, sarcastic tone, 'I'll be taking that, my prince.'

Lanys T`Vyl looks up from the wounded prince toward your party, 'As for the rest of you, I shall leave you with these paltry rewards. After all, you've earned them. Despite the fact that you were driven here by the ramblings of a madman, your assistance in obtaining the scroll has proven invaluable.'

Lanys T`Vyl speaks with uncharacteristic concern, 'You're like mad dogs, powerful but aimless. So eager to serve at the hand of any master that offers you your next meal. You do realize that if that madman gets his hands on this scroll it will mean the end of Norrath, don't you?'

Lanys T`Vyl says, in Dark Elvish, 'I don't often waste my sincerities on your lot, but I offer you this truth, it is imperative that this treasure not fall into the hands of the forsaken. I suggest you reflect upon your arrangement with Zebuxoruk and really question where your loyalties lie.'

Lanys T`Vyl gates out of the library while the Prince remains unconscious...

We had exactly the same issue. Finished phase 1. Hailed Prince. He walked right THROUGH the door without it opening. None of the group could get in.
When will this be fixed??

I 2 boxed this with my monk / shaman and tank / cleric mercs. For the first phase i kept a lich rooted off to the side until i was done with the other mobs. I had tank merc tanking the shades. I was switching merc between assist and passive so that it would not chase after the rooted lich. Whenever the spectres would come, i would go burn them with my monk. Unlike most npcs, Kavi and Xavier will tank the spectres even if someone is in melee range. Once all of the shades were dead, i loaded up my dot set on shaman and root rotted the lichs down. For the second phase i had merc tank Prince and his 2 adds. The merc tanked just fine with shaman and cleric merc healing. I saved burns on monk for when the adds would come. Ended the missions with no deaths (besides the enemies of course).

Why do people come here to lie? The mobs are unrootable, immune to changes in run speed. They are also unmezzable

This is not true, don't know why this is up there. Good luck trying to box this one with out some kind of mezzer, or a bad *** tank.
minimum level to enter with lev 100 players ?

we tried that mission with 4 level 100 players and the other one was lv 89 but we couldn't get in there because we had the message that the " party was too low ".

what is the lowest level a player can be to enter that one?

The adds that spawn during the prince fight are mezable. For us he spawned a soldier and a conjurer for each add spawn, the conjurers ae a fire thing which hits for about 5-7k.

Can't call this a walkthru because, we had 5 rezzes awaiting us at the end, but we got the victory and six achievements and a loot not yet shown at this writing: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=115039

A couple notes. We bound outside and ran a toon conveyor belt. There are roughly 20 of these guys to take down and they don't social agro, at least they are not all social to each other, it's possible exact names are social because they did pick up the pets a few times but usually new spawns right past a pet directly to a mage or healer merc.

After the first wipe, I noticed they seem to hold agro over a dead corpse pretty good so I just left one guy in and revived at the bind right outside, got a new pet and went right back in. Kiting the mobs away from the ZI helped too. Also if you died with multiple mobs alive it helps to spread them if at all possible, they won't agro together if they are apart, the agro range is pretty short so they don't have to be very far apart.

After step #1 finishes Thex yells some stuff that sounds like you may be goofing up not to follow, not to worry, he's going upstairs. Step #2 waits on you to start it.

With 3 mages and only 3 targets at the end, we found the end fight pretty straight forward. I'd tried a CoH split just to see (didn't work for me). The two attemps left Thex and guards in the hallway so we so we fought the last in tight quarters. The adds sometimes ran to a mage sometimes not. I think they spawn on top of Thex and we were close enough to agro, not sure.

Thex starts with two guards and spawns two new guards at 80,60,40 and 20%. He stopped dying at 6% (wouldn't go lower) but was somehow 3% at the end (can't be killed). Hail him for the chest.

Not sure what happens if you wipe on this step. Guessing that Thex doesn't respawn any wave of guards he has already spawned, that would be typical of EQ mission mechanics. Glad it's over and, in the immortal words of Apollo Creed in "Rocky", "ain't gonna be no rematch.".

Prince Tarant Thex definitely summons more adds if you wipe. No matter how often you've done it, once you slay him back down to the 80-, 60-, 40-, and 20-percent intervals, expect more adds.

For the first part of this mission you should focus on killing specters as they spawn and have a healer in your group to keep the dark elves alive.

You don't have to keep them alive, actually if you let them both die you get an achievement for it at the end of the mission. And after both npc's were dead it seemed like the spawn rate on the mobs slowed down some.

I did this with a full box group

puller(bard) 4xmage 1xhealer merc.

Enter Library

I set up at the back of the cave so that respawns did not auto agro
I used the bard to pull and coth'd him when he aggroed too many
no need for crowd control you can pull with any class.

Proximity aggro more dangerous than pulling which was relatively easy

Thex

Add seem to come up the stairs and pick up aggro from there.
