"an undead foreman" may be found at +2385, +3305.

You say, 'Hail, an undead foreman'

an undead foreman turns to face you. You can see a faint green glow emanating from his vacant eye sockets. 'Are you a [new worker]? Huh? Speak or go!!'

You say, 'I am a new worker.'

an undead foreman says 'Hmmph!! Too much flesh!! If you want to work, you must first fill my eye sockets with my favorite gem. This shall be your payment for your Sledgehammer.'

His favorite gem is jade. Give him a Jade.

an undead foreman places the gem deep into his hollow eye socket. He pulls a giant sledgehammer from thin air and hands it to you. 'Here!! You shall be assigned to the lower decks of the Scaled Trident.'

You receive a Worker Sledgemallet and no experience, faction hits, or coin.

Puppet Strings & DE Illusion
# Nov 29 2005 at 5:03 AM Rating: Good
I'm able to confirm that this Does work for Dorf War as of 11/29/2005.

KoS to "an undead foreman."

Spent 30kplat on Puppet Strings in the Bazaar with 9 charges.
Spent 30plat on Dark Elf Parts and had a shammy friend make up a DE illusion potion for me since none were available in Bazaar.

Used DE illusion and Invis to find the "an undead foreman." He agroed me and I used the Puppet Strings, Hailed then turned in the Jade immediately. Recieved the Workers Sledgemallet, then the charm broke as soon as I had cast it seemed... so I killed him. =P

I plan to resell the Puppet Strings to make most if not all of the plat back. Small investment for expiditing this quest.

Bad luck with this tactic on Jan. 7, 2006

I'm a 53 human paladin.

I spent 10k on Puppet Strings with 3 charges remaining. I then went to North Freeport and bought a Jade from the merchant in the bank.

When I got to the Overthere, I cast Invis vs Undead on myself and went into the outpost from the water side, avoiding everything until I was standing right beside the foreman.

I put the Jade on my mouse cursor, crossed my fingers, and clicked the Puppet Strings, breaking the invis vs undead.

The foreman resisted the effect. I tried again, and he resisted again. Tried my third and final charge on the Strings and he resisted a third time.

So there you have it. 10k down the drain and nothing to show for it.

The theory IS sound, but hope you don't get unlucky like me.

I got another set of Puppet Strings and gave it another shot, this time bringing along a 59 shammy to cast Malosini and a 21 enchanter to cast Tashani. The Malo got resisted five or six times before it stuck, but when it did, I clicked the Strings and the charm stuck the first time. I did the hand in immediately and got my sledgemallet. The charm didn't break for a good sixty seconds or so in my case.

The moral of the story is this: Make sure you debuff the foreman's magic resist before you try the Puppet Strings, at least unless you're willing to risk burning multiple charges from your Strings. I ended up paying out 20k to do this quest, and though it was worth that to me, I'd encourage anyone else to play it smart the first time and debuff the foreman.

Ive seen a few posts saying use illusion potions/mask/ect . Being an enchanter I have all the illusions I can eat. I do remember a time when illusions meant faction changes, but in a SOE pactch in 2004 the illusions no longer effect faction and now just makes illusion just another toy. I remember Illusioning Dark Elf and running all over Neriak. This I cant do any more cuz Im KOS there now even with illusions. Ive done nothing to lower my faction. Anyone else remember this patch?
Faction for the quest
# Nov 02 2005 at 3:03 PM Rating: Decent
I finished this quest a couple weeks ago and found that the respawn time and number of sarnaks giving faction are much better if you stick with the sarnaks in the ruins. They are south of the chasm and north of the East West Path. Nearly directly North of the Frontier Mtn Zoneline. Practically everything in those ruins gives faction and they respawn fairly quickly. There is also a sarnak tower to the ENE of those ruins close to the path that has several sarnaks in it. Good Luck.

My 58 sk gnome completed this quest a few days ago.

sk was already dubious, and only had one known Venril Sathir faction hit (gotten while doing the khukri crawl for the greenmist). Took 24 sarnak warbraids (6 turniins) to get to apprehensive, 44 braids to get to indiff, and another 44 to get to amiable. So it seems that each braid is worth a bit more than 2 faction points, which puts each turn-in at about 9 points.

The warbraids are only dropped by sarnak berserkers, but every beserker drops one. They will also drop an occassional word or rune.

The sarnak berserkers spawn to the south of the chasm close to the zone border by the Frontier Mt zone-in, and to the southwest of the chasm by the muddy pond. They commonly spawn (and sometimes despawn) at the far southwest corner of the zone. All the wanderers in that area (knights, birds, rhinos, sabertooths) are spawn buddies, except for the sarnak messenger. But because they will despawn, you are not forced to keep the area wiped. Personally, I hunted berserkers until there were no more then left for a few hours. When I came back, the normal spawn cycles had repopulated the area with fresh berserkers.

For lower level players, be wary of the sarnak messenger. He is a bit higher in level than the normal mobs. And for players who are KOS to VS faction, be aware that every once in a while the OT guards (including the General) will patrol up to the columned structure in front of the Frontier Mt zone-in. They kill all the mobs they see and will have no prob killing you too if you are a low enough level.

My sk handed in two jades and got the hammer without incident. I don't know if only one jade will work.

After using the hammer, your toon will be on the top deck of the western-most ship at evil colony. If, while walking off, you happen to fall into one of the holes that are in the deck, you might not be able to get out. My sk gnome was not tall enough to jump, his levitate did not lift him high enough and there was nothing to stand on to get him high enough. And there are no doors or window. To get him out, I brought in my mage and CoH him.

Good luck,
Shadome

That requires a six hour wait. It's probably quicker to wait for the skeleton in the hold to respawn and then hit him with the Worker Sledgemallet to port back up to the upper deck.

I don't know the respawn time on this mob, because the one time I fell in was because he hit my bard as I dawdled over the opening while singing Selo's Song of Travel, dropping me into the hold.

I started to kill the green skelly until I noticed that there didn't appear to be a way to get out, so I switched to my mallet, memmed my DEX song (which took several attempts), sang it, and started hitting him again.

Heh, I actually bough a stack of jades hoping to balance out some fac hits from DoN but was disappointed.

**** all the questing and **** the charming BS. All u have to do is go buy a DE illuison potion and an Ornate velium pendent. Zone into in to OT cast illuison De with the potion then run to the formen then equip the pendent target the foremen right click the pendent and bam, ambly. Turn in jade and walk away. I did this with my Iskar BL so i am pretty sure it should work with all races/gods u serve. Make sure u have an empty slot or a bag that holds giant items

This ONLY works if your race is the sole reason for you being KOS. If you are KOS because you killed stuff then you have to faction up to either threatening or dubious first.
GOODY go to HAIL
# Sep 06 2004 at 12:39 PM Rating: Decent
All my Characters - save one (a druid) are evil. The Quest is given by an evil minion. IMHO the port in should be surrounded by 4 or 5 goons that take U apart if U aint evil. Why? Cause that would be hateful, and Hate is what we Dark Aelves are about. Besides = we could sell tickets to other evil races and sit there and watch the loser Goody Goods port in and get waylayed ... uh oh - i think i just smiled - Sorry Inny.

btw - 88 turn ins for Dark Aelvin Necro (Innoruuk)
100 plus for Agnostic Ogre Warrior

I tried charming to do the turn in today and it did not work. Mayhaps SoE decided that was too each and fixed it. It still have me the message that he gave it to me, but I recieved no item.
RE: Before you try to charm this...
# Dec 06 2004 at 1:56 AM Rating: Decent
Having someone else charm will only give you indifferent faction, insufficient for the quest. On the other hand, if *you* charm, it gives you (the charmer) amiable faction, which is sufficient.
Max Kos to Hammer equiped
# Aug 14 2004 at 5:22 PM Rating: Decent
I am a 65th Woodelf ranger of tunare. I hunted in KC for a good portion of my career and was easily max KoS venril.

In order to do the turnins I used invis to get inside the fort and by the pillars near rotgrime. I then used sneak and sneaked on the flank of him and his marines, if you do it just right, centering yourself between the lines, you'll stay indiffrent to both rot and his marines. Then from as far as you can start turning in braids.

I still need to do a count and I will update this post when I go back through my log, but approximatly 1000 braids (250 quest completions) and I was Threatening. Another 200 or so till I was dubious, and then I went and bought an essence of darkelf and was "kindly"... I probably could have checked my faction after I got to threatening and delfed, but I didn't want to waste the potion.

If you are a good race, or worship a good god (or even worse, both). This is going to take you a LOT of time. If you can't track, it's going to take even longer.

Hope this helps, I will post a bit more when I get a chance to go through my log.
Rotgrime turnins while kos
# Aug 11 2004 at 2:48 PM Rating: Decent
Just a FYI. Working on this the old fashioned way by turning in braids. Im working on this for my Human/Karana Ranger (scowls). Tried Ranger AE Harmony on the Marines next to Rotgrime. No good they were unaffected by it. I used Wake of Tranquility from my boxed Cleric, targeting Rotgrime. This did work, Pacy'ing all the skelly Marines next to him. Then I used sneak to get to max trading range behind Rotgrime and was able to do turn in. You can park your Pacifier on wall behind skellys off to right or left. I waited for Rotgrime to come to end of line my Clr was on, would pacy, sneak, do turn in, repacy'ing when I felt I needed it. Did 2 turn ins and still kos, hehe. Will post how many freaking braids it takes when im done.

UPDATE #1:
22 Turn ins (88 Braids) Still scowls

how many turnins? well KoS just means he hates u ... there are degrees of hate. For instance when u reach the threshhold of "Your faction cannot get any worst" it takes roughtly 490 turnins (x4 braids).

Thus, only keep doing it can tell ... hehe ... it's all worth it in the end!

Beware if you buy the puppet strings in the bazaar. There is currently an exploit where the item looks fully charged from the link, but after you buy it you may discover it has no charges. =/ Shame on the people scamming people with this exploit (i lost 10k).
Port In Area Safe Now
# Jul 12 2004 at 10:15 PM Rating: Decent
Couple months ago they changed the port in spot or the hammer. You appear on top of the deak now as opposed to inside the ship, and they moved the skelly worker that use to argo on you when you gated in. There is one skelly worker at the port in, but hes indiff to everyone, he's there for a iksar necro quest. I have the hammer on a iksar monk and am kos to everyone in the ot outpost, and since the change have never died using the hammer to port there.

No. For in item to proc, you need it actually use it. Targeting yourself and turning on autoattack will just give you the message that you should find someone better then yourself to attack. Just find something to hit, and then it can/may proc.
