Lord Qyzar is standing on the parapet one level up in the SK guild, at +1005, -150. At the end of the previous quest, he mentioned a [matter of betrayal].

You say, 'What matter of betrayal?'

Lord Qyzar says 'One of our agents, a hero by the name of Goxnok, has found evidence that the book entitled 'Charasis' has been taken from this temple and is to be delivered to an unknown foe in the Outlands. Go at once to the lower levels of the temple and greet Goxnok. Hurry, before he departs!'

Drop down to the bottom of the western tower to find an Iksar crusader at +1010, -100, -24.

You say, 'Hail, an Iksar crusader'

an Iksar crusader clicks his heels together at attention. 'Hail, follower of Pain.'

You say, 'What about the Charasis Tome?'

an Iksar crusader says 'The Charasis Tome, the tome of the old city of Charasis. It was taken from this temple and must be returned. The one sent to [apprehend the traitor] who stole the tome must be [ready to depart] with me at once.'

You say, 'I have been sent to apprehend the traitor.'

an Iksar crusader spies the khukri sheath at your side. 'This cannot be. I was told a duke would attend the matter. Still, if the Lords have sent you, then you must be able to complete the task. The [traitor] most certainly must be stopped from delivering the [Charasis Tome]. The [recipients] appear quite formidable and I cannot handle such a deed, not single-handed.'

You say, 'Who is the traitor?'

an Iksar crusader says 'I am afraid I do not know. The babble is that he is from Cabilis, but he could have been a disguised sarnak. Who knows? The tink is that at night within the Outland territory, near the old skinless outpost, they are to meet. We should depart at once. Go get outfitted and let me know when you are [ready to depart].'

You say, 'Who are the recipients?'

an Iksar crusader shows signs of fear and his face turns olive. 'I do not know. The [spider riders]!! I have only heard tales of them from dying lizards. Evil skinless stubs. From the wounds inflicted on the lizards, I can tell they are vicious opponents. Bloated and frayed flesh, disembowelment. Their steeds must have also joined the fray, for some of the victims were covered in webs.'

You say, 'What are spider riders?'

an Iksar crusader says 'As I have reported, the babble states they appear to be skinless stubs who ride giant spiders. Most encounters occur when the moon is high. Little is known about them and only in recent weeks have they begun to appear.'

If you say you will "apprehend the traitor" it will circle back to the first response.

You say, 'I am ready to depart.'

an Iksar crusader slings his pack on his back and locks his sheath. 'Very well. I shall follow shortly. You must depart on your own. Go to the plains of the old skinless outpost. Beware, they have returned and patrol the hillside. Keep an eye on the gates of the outpost. I will be disguised within their ranks, I shall kneel as a sign. Give me this coin as your token.'

You receive A Coin (identifies as "Token of Goxnok").

Head to Firiona Vie to the "good" elf outpost and look for Tracker Azeal at +670, -2380, +173, who is secretly Crusader Goxnok in disguise. You need to be at least level 30 or he won't talk to you. Also you don't want to hail him there because he doesn't want to break cover, but if you do happen to hail him, you'll see:

    You say, 'Hail, Tracker Azeal'

Tracker Azeal looks over at you and gives you an awkward smile, then quickly looks away. You notice he isn't like most of the elves you've seen. You can't quite put your finger on it, but for one thing he smells like he hasn't bathed in weeks.

Shortly before 9 PM game time, he despawns and reappears in a form indifferent to everyone, then walks out of the outpost.

Tracker Azeal says 'I'm going to start my patrol. I'll report back by morning.'

This version appears to have an extra space at the end of his name.

He takes off running toward a spot on the cliffs, then scoots east a short distance and ends up near a boulder at -2560, -1520, where he kneels (the sign he said to watch for). He still doesn't respond to hails. Give him the coin.

Tracker Azeal begins to pull his face off.. it is a disguise!! 'Aha!! You have made it!! I cannot see well in this disguise, but I thought I smelled you. I have [news of the Charasis tome].'

    He respawns as Hero Goxnok.

You say, 'What news of the Charasis tome?'

Hero Goxnok says 'The Charasis Tome has been scribed and now another copy exists. The traitor obviously wants to keep a copy for himself. I am told you will deliver both copies to Lord Qyzar along with your zealot khukri and you shall be awarded that of a crusader. Let us rest for a minute and then I shall show you the meeting place.'

After a moment, he leaves, saying:

Hero Goxnok says 'Come along. If we get separated, look for the humanoid wolf camp and beyond the tunnel, you shall find the meeting place of the spider riders and the traitor.'

After some running, he pauses at -375, -720, +67.

Hero Goxnok stops abruptly and shudders with fear. 'Look!! There, past the wolf people. Near an ancient tunnel can be found the meeting place. I fear we may be too late. I thought I saw a shadow dash from the tunnels, but I did not see any spider riders. We'll see when we reach it'

    After another moment:

Hero Goxnok looks over at you and sizes you up before continuing on. He says, 'We should continue, follow me.'

He runs northeast, cutting across the edge of a drolvarg encampment, and approaches what used to be the drolvarg tunnel but is currently where the good elves hang out. When he reaches +625, -1785, +134, he meets up with a drachnid spy. (Both of them may be on Greenmist faction). Neither of them says anything, but they begin casting various spells: Goxnok casts Grim Aura and summons a pet; the spy casts Skin Like Wood on himself, Goxnok's pet, and Goxnok. You can, of course, attack before they do all this, which might make the fight easier.

You say, 'Hail, a drachnid spy'

a drachnid spy looks upon you with evil eyes and you hear a horrid chatter. Hairs rise from the spider's thorax. 'Greetings, creature. What a fine meal you would make!'

    It attacks.

a drachnid spy says 'You shall not take the tome from me!! I shall snack upon your blood-drained corpse.'

Kill the spy and loot a Charasis Tome, then hail Goxnok again.

    You say, 'Hail, Hero Goxnok'

Hero Goxnok sighs slowly, seeing the confusion on your face. He says, 'Yes, ______, I am the traitor. What I can gain by giving up this tome outweighs any patriotic obligations I may have once had. That city is dead, it is now time for us to grasp at our own destinies. I now give you two choices, Iksar. You can walk away and never speak of this to anyone......or you can die. What will it be?'

It's time to kill him. Beware his Harm Touch.

Hero Goxnok says 'Die by the power of Greenmist!!'

    Once he's dead:

Hero Goxnok's corpse says 'You shall now be a wanted man.. The Union of Vie shall punish you.'

Loot a Charasis Tome Copy. Return to Lord Qyzar and give him both tomes and your Zealot's Khukri.

Lord Qyzar says 'You disappoint me. I must have the Charasis Tome and its copy along with your zealot khukri.'
Lord Qyzar says 'You disappoint me. I must have the Charasis Tome and its copy along with your zealot khukri.'
Lord Qyzar says 'Congratulations! You are now a true crusader, but there is no time for celebration. We have lost two of our operatives. Crusaders Golin and Fodcod were dispatched to seek out an ancient artifact, the [visceral dagger]. Where they have gone, I do not know. They have been gone far too long. Find them and return the dagger to me with your crusader khukri and you shall be a hero.'
Your faction standing with Crusaders Of Greenmist got better.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis got better.
    You gain experience!!
You receive 1 platinum from Lord Qyzar.

His name is tracker azeal and I watched him sit in his spawn point at the end of bridge for quite a while and he never moved. I then logged on another account and triggered the quest and he still wouldnt move. He never turned un scowling either. I think he is stuck or something. Maybe if the GM's killed him and he respawned he would work. I sent in bug reports emails and everythig and they keep saying he is there sorry. kjfdhkjhkjhfdhfd

This is because, unfortunately, the huge majority of people at Verant don't know the quest well enough to understand it is broken. I called down a full GM on a petition about it and he said the same thing till I (politely of course) told him that the one at the bridge isn't the one for the quest - we need the "doppleganger" version as it were, that doesn't spawn at the bridge, but outside on the cliffs. When I told him that he quickly checked and told me to bug report it, because he wasn't spawned in a second form at all. I also doubt the messages in Cabilis act as a trigger, since the quest was implemented before Verant had nailed down how to cause one event in one zone trigger something in another if I recall right.

Here's hoping that the patch today got it fixed. If not, anyone even thinking of doing the Khukri quests /bug and /feedback and email (I don't remember the Address the GMs in chat gave me, but I'm sure if you ask them NICELY they will give it to you, and be patient too) to get this fixed.

    Trick to Spawn him?
    # Jul 20 2002 at 12:18 AM Rating: Default
I heard tell that if you camp your main SK in Azreal's spawn point, make another SK, trigger azreal, log onto your main sk, that this quest works. i dont know if the guy was talking about recently or 2 months ago, just passing on the rumor or whatever
    RE: Trick to Spawn him?
    # Sep 16 2002 at 10:20 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, you can park your questing SK at the spawn point and trigger the spawn with another. You can even make a brand new SK and talk to Qyzar and the Iksar crusader (and recieve a coin, however worthless) to trigger the spawn of Goxnok. I've done this multiple times. The only time it didn't work was after Track Azreal assisted some mob that aggroed on me just before I handed in the coin and then wandered off in FV. I guessed that he needed to despawn or get killed before I could respawn him.

I have had the same problem. Have even gotten to coin twice just to be sure. A total of 8 hours(rl) time spent waiting for him to come to his rock at n2550 n1550, nothing. At the bridge he cons scowling. Reiterate, is there something that I am missing or is this thing bugged?
    Spelling
    # Feb 05 2002 at 4:17 AM Rating: Default
Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but the spelling on this page is WRONG. I couldn't figure out what I was doing. I couldn't get "GOXNOK" to talk to me. Seems like everywhere on this page its spelled "Goxnox." If you try to hail him with this, nothing happens. So, in conclusion...... Its spelled GoxnoK.
    Beware Tracker Azreal
    # Feb 04 2002 at 2:03 PM Rating: Decent
I ran this quest at 39 just like Jhogo said...He is right is much easier and the posted LOCs are right on. The only info I would add is this. The pilgrims were blue to me at 39 and I had one attack me just as Tracker Azreal approached the first meeting place. Azreal conned red and indifferent at this point but he still assisted the pilgrim. My Fd failed and I was dead before I could recast it. He tripple pierced me for 130 pts damage several times. However, he stood over my corpse long enough for me to run back through swamp of no hope and FV (without SOW) loot the coin and hand it to him. I then looted the rest of my gear and ran to the drovlog underground entrance and he was alreadt there with the spy. I killed the spy, looted, killed Groxnok and pet, looted and headed north back to SONH and got the Khukri. One step closer to greenmist. Good luck fellow SKs.

No need to wander through FV following Goxnox..
    # Jan 23 2002 at 11:27 PM Rating: Good
I did this quest at lvl 39. I think my way is similar, yet a bit less nervwracking than the way we were told to do it in other posts.
I left Cabilis and ran SE through Swamp of No Hope to the SE zone into FV. I play on Sullon Zek, so I not only had to beware MOBs that see invis, but other players as well. I cast Gather Shadows, and zoned into FV, ran due south to the coast, then proceded west to the boulder where Goxnox is sitting disguised as Tracker Azreal (approx neg 2550, neg 1550). I droped invis and conned the tracker and he was indifferent, so I ran up and handed him the coin. I then hailed him and asked "What news of the Charasis Tome?" He said his bit and said we would rest there for a bit. A minute or so later, he took off. I chose not to follow him all through FV, because on my server, as I noted before, it is just too dangerous because of enemy PKers. As he skittered off into the distance, I ran to the Drolvarg Tunnel entrance of the east wall of the zone (approx pos 560, neg 1760). I did not have sow, so it took me a couple minutes to find my way there. Goxnox was already there with a pet and the Drachnid Spy. At lvl 39, the Spy was light blue con, and Goxnox was a green con. The spider conned amiable, so I ran up and hailed Goxnox. He admitted to being in league with the enemy, so I killed the Spy, looted the tome, then turned to Goxnox. I attacked Goxnox, and got him to half health when I was overrun by a few blue-con drachnids that wandered by, and just befor I could kill Goxnox, they dropped me. I of course paniced, and ran naked back through the swamp to FV the way I had before. I looted my corpse, but Goxnox was nowhere to be found. I went back to Cabilis to the SK guild and asked Lord Qyzar "What matter of betrayal" again, and then ran down to the iksar crusader, hailed him, said "I am ready to depart", and he handed me the silver coin again. I AGAIN ran back to FV through the Swamp, then on to the boulder where Tracker Azreal was sitting, found him to be indifferent, and handed him the coin again. Thankfully, it worked and he revealed himself as Goxnox again, and I again said "What news of the Charasis Tome?" He said we would rest, then after a minute or two, wandered off into FV agin. I had sow this time, so I took off straight to the tunnel and beat him there. I waited around a few minutes and was just beginning to panic when he walked up, cast a pet and the Drachnid Spy popped in. I walked up to him, Hailed him and again he said he was in league with the enemy. Now, I had the tome from the Spy from my first attempt, so I feared the Spy, Feared Goxnox's pet, and killed Gox. He had the tome, so I happily ran back to Cabilis to turn in the 2 tomes and my Khukri and got my reward! The Crusader Khukri. 8/26 3 Int 3 MR 3 PR. Hope this helps you out, especially those of you who have to try this quest more than once due to death. Good Luck.

    Various spawn points
    # Jan 04 2002 at 6:36 PM Rating: Excellent
Tracker Azreal (aka Hero Goxnok) spawn = neg 2553 by neg 1546 (by a rock at the edge of the cliff)

Drachnid Spy spawn = pos 657 by neg 1762 (right in front of the drolvarg temple area)

    Other points of interest ...

    Almost everything sees through invis.

Once you give the tracker (he'll con indifferent) your coin, he'll take about 5 minutes to FINALLY get to the drolvarg tunnel. Trust me, standing in the middle of a dangerous area waiting for him to move is a particularly delightful experience ... if you're a *********!!!

Pilgrims and drixies assist ... count yourself VERY lucky if you get to the tunnel area without picking up a straggler.

Hero Goxnok WILL attack if he is blue to you. If he is green, he will instead heal the spider during the fight.

You will need the drops off both Hero Goxnok AND the Drachnid Spy. Make sure to keep them both alive (if a pilgrim attacks) ... so YOU can kill them! :)

    **********

On to the particulars of the hunt. I, Raduus Cryptreaver (level 46 iksar monk) just helped my friend Mikazu (level 35 iksar shadowknight) finish this quest. Honestly, the most difficult part was avoiding those stupid drixies and pilgrims. They assist and heal, and the fights go on WAY too long. Throw in a damage shield, and it's a recipe for disaster! Because we didn't have a clear loc where the tracker spawned, we had to run back and forth along the cliff area, and were jumped pretty much non-stop by drolvargs, pilgrims, drixies, pirates, and even goblins. Most distressing.

Anyhoo, in a HUGE bit of serendipity, I happened upon the Drixie Queen (for the dreadscale mask quest) and finished her off lickity split. A nice bonus, as Mikazu has now finished her Dreadscale armor collection. :)

When the actual fight began in front of the drolvarg tunnel, the hero led off with a harm touch against Mikazu. We also had a pilgrim add. *sigh* I tried to move to where I was taking the hits, but all the baddies seemed quite intent on finishing poor Mikazu off. We had finished off the Hero (who was green to me at level 46) when I notice Mikazu was pretty much out of health! I desperately called to her to feign death ... which she did ... with 10 hit points left!

At this point I feigned death as well, leaving the drachnid spy to fight again *two* pilgrims. It finished off one and was engaging the second when Mikazu told me "We need the tome off the spy!!!"

Well, needless to say I sprang up and aided the spy in its battle against the pilgrim. No contest, as the puny wood elf fell quickly.

As the battle ended, the spy turned to me and smiled. A sickly smile. I like to think it knew that it was about to die. With a fierce battle cry I flung myself into battle! Mikazu stood up and aided in the battle. Within seconds, we stood victorious among the bodies of our foes.

Returning to Cabilis, Mikazu was proclaimed a hero of the Iksar, and I, Raduus Cryptreaver, stood proudly by as my friend received her just reward ... a shiny new Crusader's Khukri. :)

This quest is a major pain in the ***** it must be well planned out for i have done it 4 times but not succeeded as of yet.

    key notes to this are...
    - when giving the coin to "tracker azeal" do not have a non iksar by your side because goxnok will attack him and you can not complete the quest

    - The battle zone (infront of some building that is built into the side of the hill) is a very bad spot to fight...pull them elsewhere off to the side so you dont have ohh.....lets just say 5 drolvargs aggro on u

    - cast the lowest lvl pet u have (leering corpse) and start the battle with him as goxnok will use his HT on the pet instead of you

    - Bring a healer along or a rather high lvl friend and have him help....its the easiest way

Good luck to all of you upon completion of this quest...oh yeah, getting to the spot where u see azeal is a pain in the **** as everything in that zone is KOS to you and EVERYTHING (except maybe frogloks?) can see through invis, so just avoid stuff (FD owns in this zone)

I just did this quest, I belive the discrepency in whether goxnok helps the spy or attacks you is level based so that if you are high enough level he won't aggro you for attacking his friend but he will cast benificial spells on his friend if he is close enough, if you are lower in levels he will simply jump in when you engage the spy. Anyhow I logged most of this quest and dumped the relavent parts on the net so if you want to read what happened to me check out:

Actually if you have killed A LOT of goblins it's possible you could not be kos to the outpost at FV but I mean A LOT of goblins, probably something like 800. Anyhow, if you are KOS remember that SOME of the drixies and pilgrims can see invis. They also hate wolf form so don't expect to find some dr00d to save you from them. It may be easier to zone into FV from the swamp of no hope, there are two ways to zone to FV from the swamp and one puts you pretty close to the shore AND on the opposide side of the zone from all the drixies and the outpost, this should be an easier way than coming in from LoIL as this is also the side of the zone where our Tracker Azreal shows up. While I'm mentioning dangers and such remember that all of the drolvarg I've ever seen and a few of the drachnids see invis so try to avoid the drolvarg if you can and con the spiders so you can avoid any that don't con indifferent.

First of all the Hero Goxnox does not heal the spy, he jumps in an begins to beat on you. enter fv following stream until you hit the lake or ocean whatever swim AROUND teh city till you get to the cliff or if you are invised just go past the bridge into FV and wait near the water at the start of the cliff. About 9 pm or so tracker comes runing by. after letting him go past you uninvis an con hi. if he cons indifferent give coin. he will transform into hero an lead you to the "spy". the LOC he will lead you to is this POS 657 and NEG 1762. upon arriving he will cast grim aura an summmon a pet. This is the beginning of the attack let him atack you before attacking him. The spy arrivews before he attacks an the battle begins. My first try was a disaster. My guild was going with me but we got seperated an agroed so Iended up at the site all by me lil self. I am a lvl 30 sk with most major pieces of dscal;e armor an good equipment. make SURE at this lvl that you do have help for there are MANY agroes an guys who se through invis. Also I had a frenzed leech agro me so it was a total slaughter. If you are on Lanys Tvl in hte next day or so you can see me rotting corpse sitting there. (( But to those who say it is not worth the time and effort just look at the weapon you get after the next quest. It is way better than most of the weapons out there in 1hs. Anyway I felt like cloak and dagger doing the quest and thouroughly enjoyed it even (maybe not) the dying LOL. Well look me up on the lanys tvl server.

I finally got the nerve and did it solo...

But I'm level 50 now so its not that amazing. :)
I tried getting some help, but no luck. :(
Anyway, this is how I did it. After getting full of mana, I ran via SoW potion to his spawn point where dropping invis (via Circlet of Shadows), I conned him to make sure he was the right one. I gave him the coin, and he changes image into a SK in the light green armor with a rapier. He does the above dialogue, I respond, and he begins running back and forth a bit then into the wooded area towards the Drovlarg tunnel. I picked up a pesky pilgrim but let him beat on me for awhile. Once Hero Goxnox stopped, I feigned death to rid me of the Pilgrim. I lost track of Goxnox, but figured he might be near the tunnel. He gives a "he sizes you up" message before running the last time, which is your indication he's going to get mean. :)

Anyway, I went over to the tunnel, and he had made a pet and the spy was there with him. I pulled the spy via Dooming Darkness and killed him up the side near the tunnel away from everything else. The spy was pretty easy, a standard drachnid. I looted the first tome, and got within range of Goxnox. I pulled him with DD, and the pet came. I ED the pet, and killed it easy. I then got Goxnox's HT from quite a distance (271 points) I then fear kited him a bit on the hill, and then put him away with my own 701 point HT. Looted the next tome, and made way to Cabilis for my Crusader Khukri.

All in all easy, but it still made my heart pound. On to the viseral dagger!

You did a 701 damage HT? As far as I know, at level 50 the most you can do is 501. According to a Sk site I checked, the formula for determining max HT damage is (Level*10)+1. It might have been a mistake, but the site seemed to be relatively well-informed.

Well, my friend, the formula on HT isnt exactly correct, because as u level up after a certain level, dont remember which one, but you gain 30 points per level. I am currently at level 54 and my HT does 821 DMG, so you can't always go by the formulas you read able, sometimes you have to do the experience work to get the answers.

The Hero didn't heal the spy when i did this, he just out right attacked me with the spy, at level 33 they killed me, i retried the whole quest, and the same thing, he doesn't heal the spy if your anywhere near him in level he just attacks you, i got the spy killed on the second try but still got killed by the hero...on trip 3 i just tried killing the hero after givin him the coin...no copy...next time i'll let him run his corse (cause there's no point in following him through all them MoBs that see invis when ya know right where he's goin) attack the spy, then kill him and i hope i loot the copy before the spy kills me.

now if i wern't such a soloer....and made a friend or 2 this would be easy....but solo this is hard at 33...perhaps if i were twinked it would be easy, but for a stock 33 solo it's rough

    Charasis Tome

If you've ever gone on killing sprees in N Ro, you might know what I'm talking about. Upon killing Dorn Bdynn out of boredom one night, I was suprised by the spawning of a Dark Elf Spy or something of the sort. I killed him, and suddenly a little spider darted out of the corpse. It was also scowling at me. I killed that too, but rather than getting Neriak faction hits, I got Mistmoore. The only other spiders I could think of involving MM faction were the Drachnids from DL and the FV landscape. Hrmm, whadda ya know? Charasis tome! It's written in . . . some language I don't know, but my Iksar Monk friend got one also, and he could read it fine. I don't know if this is the same thing, but it might help. I know that killing Dorn doesn't always trigger the spawn of the Spy, and killing the spy doesn't always trigger the spider. I also know that some items may have the same name, apperance, and writing on them, but might be for entirely different quests. IE, the testament of truth droped off of the guy in Lava Storm is not the same as the one dropped off Lucan or the one quested for in N FP. I hope this does more good than harm.

This has been discussed in previous threads. This copy of the Charasis Tome is NOT involved in this quest.
    OUCH!

I've been doing the killing for my newbie sk with my shaman so he can get the upgraded quests. Here's a tip that could save you all some pain: I tried to multi-quest to get this khukri. When I logged on with the SK to turn in the Zealot's Khukri, Qyzar told me I hadn't proven my dedication yet or something like that. Must be because I'm only level 10. No way in hell I'm doing that quest in the swamp all over again!

I'm not entirely sure, but I think that maybe you can just ask Lord Qyzar "What matter of betrayal?" again to get the Iksar Crusader to spawn. It makes sense, but I haven't tried it myself. I'll do it tonight though to see if it works. I suspect that it will.

I have done this before, because i got killed by pilgrims on the way in. "What matter of betrayal?" does work, but it seems you need to have your zealot khukri on you to get the coin from Goxnok (that or my petition to the GMs about not being able to get the coin again did something). I had no problems from Qyzar. Though I still have yet to complete this quest, I plan on doing it once I have gotten well into 42nd level.
