Call of the Forsaken Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This task is the third in a series of three. It is a solo task that begins with Noxhil V`Sek (click for map image) in Neriak Fourth Gate.

(Steps to recruit a member of a particular group are completed in the following subsequent steps. Keep this in mind, so you don't think you are missing something)

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Completed "The Missing Scroll"
- Completed "Fourth Gate Investigation"
- Must be illusioned as a Dark Elf

You say, 'Hail, Noxhil V`Sek'

Noxhil V`Sek says 'All of our information suggests that the scroll is being held within the Great Library, an area controlled by the queen. Its doors remain locked and under heavy guard. Even if you managed to somehow sneak inside, you wouldn't stand a chance against the assortment of clerics that swarm the library. You'll need a [group] made up of Neriak's most skilled thieves and assassins if you're still [interested] in recovering the scroll.'

You say, 'A group?'

Noxhil V`Sek says 'You'll need to be very selective about whom you choose and how you solicit their help. If word gets out that you're trying to break into the Great Library, the city guard will put a price on your head that even your closest allies won't be able to refuse. If you're [ready] to start recruiting, I can offer suggestions about where to find hired help that will be both brutal and discreet.'

You say, 'I am ready'

You have been assigned the task 'Cautious Recruitment'.

Noxhil V`Sek believes that you will not be able to enter the Great Library without assistance. He suggested a few places where you might find a willing recruit.

Noxhil V`Sek tells you, 'There's a group of mercenaries known as the Crimson Fist, made up of former members of the Indigo Brotherhood. If anyone were capable of carrying out a heist like this, it would be someone from their ranks. They're known to loiter outside the palace, looking for odd jobs.'

Noxhil V`Sek tells you, 'The Royal Guard is always recruiting. The barracks are filled with those eager to serve the king and those who chose a military life over one spent in a dungeon. It is within the latter group that you may find someone desperate enough to aid you in your heist.'

Noxhil V`Sek tells you, 'Some within the Spurned might be willing to risk their life for a chance to glimpse the knowledge within the Great Library. Its many tomes are often off limits for those loyal to the king.'

Recruit a member of the Royal Guard 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

Head to the barracks and find a suitable recruit 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

Task Window Says: A new recruit within the barracks might be the easiest to convince.

In the barracks, speak with "a new recruit" (click for map image).

You say, 'Hail, a new recruit'

a new recruit gives you a warning wet with sarcasm. 'I wouldn't wander these barracks for too long. The Royal Guard may decide you're here to join their ranks!' The Teir`Dal laughs at his own joke. 'It seems they can enlist anyone against their will. Get accused of [stealing] and wind up in the barracks!'

You say, 'Stealing?'

a new recruit emphasizes his self-proclaimed innocence. 'I was accused of stealing chess pieces from the Drawing Room. Ridiculous, right? Everyone knows that area is inaccessible. You'd have to be a brilliant thief to sneak your way in there.' A mischievous smile flashes across the dark elf's face for a brief moment. 'Apparently it doesn't matter whether I'm guilty or not. I'm stuck serving the king now!' The recruit salutes the air, mocking his new position. 'I'd rather do [anything] other than this.'

You say, 'Anything?'

a new recruit says 'Anything. Why? Did you have something in mind?'

Prince Tarant Thex charges into the room, his blade drawn. With one swift movement, he cuts down the new recruit before addressing you. 'No one but I commands the Royal Guard. I know what you are up to, _____, and it is a matter about which we must speak.'

a new recruit died.

Speak to Prince Tarant Thex 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

Speak with Prince Tarant Thex (found in the barracks hall just south of the zone's central area) and follow through his dialogues.

You say, 'Hail, Prince Tarant Thex'

Prince Tarant Thex says 'You're going to steal from my mother.' The commander of the Dreadguard continues before you can protest. 'And I am going to [help] you. I'm familiar with the library's layout. You will need me if you have any hope of navigating its grand halls.''

You say, 'Why would you help me?'

Prince Tarant Thex says 'I don't need to explain my motivations to you. I am agreeing to help, and you will help me in return. There is a Teir`Dal within the Halls of the Dead that I believe is in grave danger. It is likely that his guards have been compromised and can no longer protect him. I need you to sneak into his area while he is away and dispose of his guards, allowing my guards to provide competent protection.'

Defeat the guards within the Keeper's room while he is away 0/4 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

Task Window Says: Keeper Scura occupies two rooms two rooms within the second story of the Halls of the Dead. Defeat his guards while he is not in the room.

The Keeper (click for map image) is found on the second floor of the House of the Dead (structure in the northwestern part of the zone). The guards in those rooms are leashed to the rooms, and Keeper Scura T`Lur paths between the rooms (every 10 minutes). If you are fighting guards within sight of the Keeper, the Keeper attacks (you'll want to avoid this).

Return to Prince Tarant Thex 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

You say, 'Hail, Prince Tarant Thex'

Prince Tarant Thex says, in Dark Elvish, 'My guards have taken their position within the Halls of the Dead. I feel better already, knowing that Keeper Scura T`Kur will have the protection of the Dreadguard, even if he doesn't know it. When the time is right, I will honor my word and aid you in your mission to enter the Great Library.'

Recruit a member of the Spurned 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

Head to Darklight Palace and find a suitable recruit 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

Task Window Says: The Spurned are made of intelligent casters who often spend their time reading and researching.

Speak to Kavi V`Lask (click for map image) in the dining room of the palace.

You say, 'Hail, Kavi V`Lask'

Kavi V`Lask continues to scan the bookshelf while speaking. 'Unless you're prepared to tell me the location of Miragul's [missing works], save your words. I cannot waste any more time'.

You say, 'Missing works?'

Kavi V`Lask sighs. 'His old journals, filled with information that will help the Spurned animate the creations they have been constructing. I've searched every bookcase in this palace and come to the conclusion that the missing notes must be in the hands of the Dead.'

Recover one of Miragul’s missing journals 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

Task Window Says: Kavi V`Lask might be willing to help if you recover one of Miragul's missing journals from necromancers within or around the Halls of the Dead.

Kill necromancer mobs (NPCs wearing black robes(also has worked on Yellow robed casters in this area)) in the House of the Dead until you get this update. You will see no text other than the regular "task update" message. You may need to be on the mob's hate list in order to have a chance at an update.

Return to Kavi V`Lask 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

You say, 'Hail, Kavi V`Lask'

Kavi V`Lask blinks in surprise. 'You found one of the missing journals? This discovery is both wonderful and worrisome. I was beginning to think the notes were a myth, though it is now a fact that the Dead have been hoarding his research all along. I can only imagine what they keep locked away in the [Great Library].'

You say, 'Great Library?'

Kavi V`Lask says 'The Great Library is an area controlled completely by the queen. What tomes can be found within the library is a mystery to all but those who dwell there. With the existence of Miragul's notes verified, I'd risk my life to walk those halls in search for other hidden knowledge.'

Recruit a member of the Crimson Fist 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

Head to the Crimson Fist camp to find a suitable recruit 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

Task Window Says: The Crimson Fist are former members of the Indigo Brotherhood who linger across the bridge outside of Darklight Palace. Ask one of them to join your group.

Speak with Xavier T`Ser (click for map image), who is found at a camp across the bridge from the palace in the southern part of the zone). Tell him you want him to "join your group", then follow his dialogues to get the update.

You say, 'Hail, Xavier T`Ser'

Xavier T`Ser cleans his rusty blade while speaking. 'I don't waste time with pleasantries, _____. Name your job, and I'll name my price.'

You say, 'Join my group'

Xavier T`Ser says 'So this is a job that requires a group? If I have to rely on others to not get me killed, then my [price] will be doubled.'

You say, 'What price is that?'

Xavier T`Ser says 'The Crimson Fist needs new weapons. Many of my men are still using blades from their days in the Brotherhood. Unlike our old allies, we're not in the pocket of the king. If you want my help, you'll need to bring me weapons that are worthy of the Crimson Fist.'

Collect weapons from guards around Neriak Fourth Gate 0/4 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

Task Window Says: Xavier wants new weapons for his men before he'll agree to help you. Guards around Fourth Gate have decent blades.

Kill any four guards in the zone.

Return to Xavier T`Ser 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

You say, 'Hail, Xavier T`Ser'

Xavier T`Ser looks over the weapons to ensure they meet his standards. 'These seem like suitable payment for future services. My guys will be happy to have something new to swing. Just say the word when you're ready to form your group, and I'll make sure I'm available.'

Return to Noxhil V`Sek now that the recruitment process is complete 0/1 (Neriak Fourth Gate)

You say, 'Hail, Noxhil V`Sek'

Noxhil V`Sek seems surprised. 'So you managed to find people willing to join your group? I hope you chose well. The hardest part is still ahead. Breaking into the Great Library is no easy feat. We'll have to wait until the timing is right before we begin, and we should lay low until then. The last thing we need is to arouse any suspicion.'

You recruited a capable group of thieves and thugs to help you steal the Scroll of G`Han from within the Great Library.

Lots of running around, again it helps to have TL-to-Bind classes and a mage for CoHero. The step where you have to kill necros to get random updates is, as others have mentioned here, a bit of a pain. We camped the necro room and cleared it going around the walls. Got updates on the first two kills then it slowed down. After 4 updates we killed about 10 more necro kills and then the 5th group member got the update text and was very happy, only then to find the specific task line did not update. Worrisome, since this sounded like a bug. Camped out that toon and returned... still no update. So we kept killing necros. After another dozen kills, the 6th and final group member got his update. Another 20 or so kills, no further updates for toon#5. We started thinking he got bugged when he got the update text but no updated line item. He had nothing else to get updated so clearly this update text, which doesn't specify WHICH step, could only have been for this item.

We camped out entire group for about 15 minutes, came back to a fully repopped room. We killed a named necro and toon #5 finally got his update. So I do think something buggy was going on.

This mission took about 1.5 hours: 20 minutes running around, 1hr 10 mins killing necros. Fortunately, we're only dubious to the necro area now, not yet KOS.

Iam stuck at the same step.

We did this in a full group. 2 People got the update on the first kill. 3 peole after around 3 kills. Now we are killing everything in the room for 4 rounds and still no update for me. Think i have to remove the quest and start over.

Or does anyone have an idea?

The Queens Palace is the Halls of the Dead where you will find necromancers/defilers on the lower floor. The king's Palace is the Dark Light Palace.
When we killed mobs in the defiler room, we got random updates on mobs with a staff (to me they appeared to be casters), and the mobs with shields and swords (to me appearing to be SKs) did not update our task. The biggest issue we encountered was crowd control, since clearing the room is hard with all the sh.t pathing.

Oh and we had two draggers the two that never got the update also did not get the faction hit. Our cleric cast "Hand of Graceful Infusion" on the group and that gives him kill points, the faction hit and the update. Our enchanter actually was almost involved in the first kill (he mezzed a couple) but we CoH'd him for good measure and he also was non-participatory in the kills afterward. We decided he needed to get the faction hit. He did on the last kill and got the update.

All of this could be a complete coincidence too, all I know is this is what coincidentally happened when it worked for us.

These update tasks are just like that sometimes. In breeding grounds I had the same thing happen. The update is random, like the roll of a die. You are just getting really unlucky. Keep at it, it will eventually update, mine is doing the same thing on one of my toons, killed like 20 mobs so far , 3 toons got update fast, last one still going.

Not sure if they changed it, but took me 3 kills to get updates on all 3 characters. Zero on first kill, two on second, and third update on third kill.
