Call of the Forsaken Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This task is the third in a series of three. It begins with Guard Wagsley (click for map image) in the Ethernere Tainted West Karana.

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Level 95
- Completed "Overcoming the Cataclysm"
- Completed "Not of this World"

You say, 'Hail, Guard Wagsley'

Guard Wagsley says 'What am I going to do with this kid? Cleet's been following me since I left the farmlands. I told him to go home, but he won't listen! I tried to outrun him, and I could barely see him behind me when I heard his cries and came back to find him cowering in the tree. Now I'm late finishing my [mission] and reporting to Commander Galenth!'

You say, 'What mission?'

Guard Wagsley says 'I'm supposed to learn more about these damn [cultists] and their dragon. Commander Galenth wants as much intelligence as we can gather so he can ready an assault on the dragon's position. Regardless of how it got here, we can't have a dragon stomping around in West Karana!'

You say, 'What about the cultists?'

Guard Wagsley says 'The more I find out, the stranger it gets. Some of these cloaked fanatics claim they lived in these plains long ago and have just returned from a land of the dead. Others I met before when I did a few stints of duty in the old outposts here. From the look of it, all of them have lost their minds, and they're running around, trying to convince others to share in their insanity. Now, if I can just solve my problem with that [boy] and tell Commander Galenth what's happening here!'

You say, 'You could just leave the boy...'

Guard Wagsley says 'No, I can't just leave him to die! He's a stupid lad, but I don't wish him harm. Can't you kill those glowing creatures and [help] him out?'

You say, 'I suppose I could help'

Guard Wagsley says 'I'm sure you can do it!'

You have been assigned the task 'Answering the Call'.

Your task to gather information for Commander Galenth continues. The Doomscale cultists have expanded southward and are attempting to convince the population to worship the dragon in the pit. Discover their plans and report back to Galenth.

Kill the creatures hounding Cleet Miller Jr. 0/2 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Guard Waglsey won't report his findings to Commander Galenth until you save Cleet Miller, Jr. Kill the creatures that have surrounded him.

Cleet Miller Jr. (click for map image) is found in the southwestern part of the zone. Kill the hostile mobs near him. They each hit for a max ~12,500.

Cleet Miller Jr says 'Not to be rude, but can you hurry up and kill these things? I think I'm going to slip at any moment, and it will be YOUR fault if I die today!'

a tirun leveler brings the strength of the Horde against _____.
a hungry skirth bounds toward _____.

Speak with Cleet Miller Jr. 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Ask Cleet Miller, Jr. if he is alright.

You say, 'Hail, Cleet Miller Jr'

Cleet Miller Jr says 'I could have done that if I hadn't dropped my sword in the field somewhere! You know I'm going to be a great adventurer, right? You must have heard of me! Now go away! I'll get down myself! I'm sure mother has found my sword by now. I'll ask her to fetch me the sword and some clean pants. Wait for me, Wagsley!'

Speak with Guard Wagsley 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Tell Guard Wagsley he can continue his mission now.

You say, 'Hail, Guard Wagsley'

Guard Wagsley says 'He's safe now, but as soon as he turns his back, I'm getting on with my mission. Foolish boys be damned! If you don't mind being a good citizen while I take news back to Commander Galenth, Sera McMannus has been trying to get rid of the cultists' influence here. Go talk to her! I wish I could stay longer and continue to aid such a beautiful, strong woman, but I don't think her father, Einhorst, appreciates my kind of aid. Tell Sera my thoughts dwell with her until we meet again!'

Speak with Sera McMannus 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: The cultists in the area have been causing trouble for the McMannus clan. Speak with Sera McMannus about what has been happening.

Sera McMannus (click for map image) is in the far southwest.

You say, 'Hail, Sera McMannus'

Sera McMannus says 'I have no doubt Wagsley's thoughts dwell between my belt and my neck, in good company with his eyes! But he's a small, harmless man, and heels as well as my wolf, Frostbite. I let the two of them fight it out to see who gets to curl up at the end of my bed. Wagsley is the least of my concerns, though. The cultists have overrun our village. Even people we used to know have gone insane and begun worshipping the dragon. They spread their vile beliefs through speech and writing, handing out tracts and preaching to us who have nearly lost everything. Kill those proselytizers, _____, and bring to me any of their tracts you find scattered about. We must rid West Karana of their lunacy!'

While not necessary for the task, if you talk to the other members of the McMannus clan in the area (some on the ground, some in huts, some on top of huts in water), you'll see these responses:

Holhaf McMannus says 'You think I'm small? You think I couldn't break one of these proselytizers in half whenever I wanted to? I just believe in letting people have their say, even if they are insane.'

Tresma McMannus says 'Will you do something about all these cultists? Holhaf will never bother. His courage is smaller than his stature!'

Jorlrod McMannus says 'Einhorst told us the fishing was good here and that the clan should settle in the Karanas. What a fool he was! We hadn't been here more than half a year before the ground shook. Hills rose around us, and scalding water poured over the village as the Serpent started overflowing. I don't see how we won't have to return to Halas.'

Einhorst McMannus says 'Finally, someone here that wants to discuss something besides their admiration for my daughters! In such a time as this, how could anyone think of such things? Already I have sent many of my family back to Halas to fetch aid. No doubt many of them will remain there after all is finished. This place is no longer a home; it is a grave.'

Sahen McMannus says 'It will take a long while to repair the destruction. I don't think these homes are salvagable.'

Sharhessa McMannus says 'The preaching fools wouldn't care if I starved up here! They badger me with their tales of the dragon, yet they don't even offer me a piece of bread or helping hand off this house!'

Delma McMannus says 'Make the preaching stop! Why would I spit on the bodies of my own clan by running off to join a cult that wants everyone in the world to be dead and buried!'

Prilhan McMannus says 'If you don't slit the throats of these lie-weaving cultists, I will!'

Hefholm McMannus says 'Other settlers in these plains might have lost hope or turned to the foolish new dragon religion, but we have to come together as a clan and fix our broken homes. We can't run from our problems.'

Holhoff McMannus says 'Ryshorn is going to climb down first, right?'

Ryshorn McMannus says 'No, Holhoff swore he was going down first and would tell me if the waters were free from crocs!'

Jorlhoff McMannus says 'Of course I can't swim! Do you think I'd be up here if I could?'

Kill 3 proselytizers 0/3 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Pick up the tracts dropped by the Doomscale cultists 0/5 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Cultist proselytizers have been trying to convince members of the McMannus clan to worship the dragon. Sera wants you to kill them and collect any of their tracts laying on the ground.

The proselytizers hit for a max ~14,500.

a proselytizer says 'The world will end, and only the Order of Doomscale shall remain!'
a proselytizer chants a mantra of doom as he attacks.

a proselytizer has been slain by _____!
a proselytizer's corpse outstretches his hand towards the Dragon.

The tracts appear as scrolls on the ground (some found on land; some in the water surrounding the McMannus huts). They read:

Inhabitants of West Karana,

The end is near. The signs are etched into the land itself:
The fields burn, the river boils, and the guts of Norrath churn
and vomit. Leave your broken homes and lives of destitution.
Join the covenant of the Doomscale. Cleave to the dragon,
the bringer of the end, the salvation of all who will soon leave
this doomed world!

Deliver 5 Doomsday Tracts to Sera McMannus 0/5 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Bring the tracts to Sera McMannus.

Sera McMannus says 'I will burn these writings. If you have dealt with the proselytizers, I have another request: Kill that bastard, Rislarn! That a man who once lived peacefully in these plains could ensnare the minds of my kin and offer them to the dragon makes my blood run colder than the snows of Halas!'

Speak to Disciple Rislarn 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: The man responsible for the cultist activity in this area, Disciple Rislarn, has begun ministering to the new members of his flock, culled from the McMannus clan. Sera has asked you to confront Rislarn.

Find Disciple Rislarn (click for map image) north of the McMannus camp. He will attack you after you hail him (you'll have 25 seconds between hailing him and his aggro).

You say, 'Hail, Disciple Rislarn'

Disciple Rislarn says 'Do you seek knowledge? Do you seek wisdom? You find only folly if you do not first seek safety. Do you see how broken this world is? We have no homes in which we can shelter. We have nowhere to run from the end that approaches!'

Disciple Rislarn says 'I see you have suffered loss. I too have lost much: my inn to the fires, my loved ones to the plagues years ago, and my youth to the ignorance of impending truth. The end approaches, and we must take shelter beneath the wings of the dragon!'

Disciple Rislarn says 'There is a place between worlds, a place where the dead do not die. The dragon has seen this place and will take us there. Even now the dead walk among us and live! We will be as they are, forever alive! But you...I see your hesitation. I see your cowardly hands slinking toward your weapons! Those who will not stand among us under the wings of the dragon will lie there as corpses!'

Kill Disciple Rislarn 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Disciple Rislarn will not tolerate your lack of belief. Kill him.

Disciple Rislarn hits for a max ~12,500; has ~3.2 million hitpoints (almost double a typical trash mob); and is permanently rooted in place. He doesn't cast any spells other than standard Shadow Knight spells. As the fight progresses, he calls for help from his flock members:

Disciple Rislarn says 'Aid me, my flock!'

Flock members hit for a max ~6,000; are mezzable, stunnable, and rootable/snareable; and don't have too many hitpoints.

Disciple Rislarn has been slain by _____!
Disciple Rislarn's corpse outstretches his hand towards the Dragon.

Speak with Commander Galenth 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Tell Commander Galenth what has transpired.

You say, 'Hail, Commander Galenth'

Commander Galenth says '_____, you dandy knave! Where's Sorkins? Didn't I tell you to give him a swift kick for me? Not even Wagsley's back here yet! They probably skipped on back to Qeynos together and are prancing about in their silken loincloths and lounging in their silken bed sheets! My gut's gonna be sicker than the heads of these cultists! What are we gonna do, _____? We're gonna kill a dragon! You're gonna take that information you brought me and march into that pit. I need the straight facts about what the cult is planning to do with that dragon. March!'

Find the pit where the dragon lies 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: The commander has told you to descend into the huge pit in the northeast of the plains and find out for yourself what the cult is planning with the dragon.

Head due north and into the pit:

As you enter the pit, a cold wind blows upon you. A voice calls from below, 'Do you come to cast off your putrid, worldly flesh and bow before the dragon? The robe will be your flesh, and the dragon will be your spirit! Present yourself before me, the Deathmaster, that I might deem you worthy!'

Speak with Deathmaster Sarenth 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Deathmaster Sarenth has called for your presence. He is unlikely to respond favorably unless you wear the robe of the Doomscale cultists. You can find a robe in one of the cultists' barrels or crates.

You'll need another Cloak of the Doomscale Ritualist, looted from the cultist barrels and boxes in the area. (Cultist mobs will aggro you when you open one of these.) Without the illusion, you see:

Deathmaster Sarenth says 'I see nothing here but lumpy, disgusting flesh! You have not taken the robe of the Dragonscale. You are not worthy of my audience. May the dragon spit you out of her mouth!'

With the illusion, he responds:

Deathmaster Sarenth says 'My child, you are beautiful. The flesh so easily blisters, boils with pustules, breaks, and weeps. It once held power over me, long ago in Oceangreen, and I worshipped the one who could destroy it. I longed to be rid of it. But only in death was I freed from its grasp. You are one of the seekers who longs for this release. We will return to the home of the dead, hidden from the eyes of all gods who have failed us. The dragon will lead you to your true home. Pray to her.'

Speak with Lady Lendiniara 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: The Deathmaster has told you to address the dragon and offer yourself unto her.

Note: Deathmaster Sarenth will aggro you after you hail her.

You say, 'Hail, Lady Lendiniara'

Lady Lendiniara lowers her head close to yours. 'Enough of these foolish rites and ceremonies! Remove that robe at once! A keeper of the Ring of Scale is wise enough to know your mind is not addled like the ones who fall on their knees before me and pray for the end of the world.' You remove the robe of the cultists and stand before Lendiniara. The Deathmaster seethes at the sight of your natural form.

Deathmaster Sarenth says 'How dare you discard your robe and show your putrid flesh to the dragon, our Lady of Salvation?! Deceivers shall rot in the grave!'

Confront Deathmaster Sarenth 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Lendiniara has asked you to drop the pretense of being a cult member, but this has infuriated Deathmaster Sarenth. Confront him with force.

Deathmaster Sarenth is permanently rooted, summons from 100% health, hits for a max ~15,000, and spawns very weak adds.

As he reaches low health, he goes inactive and casts "Ethereal Doom" on anyone at this step (a 60-second countdown to a death touch, cureable by hailing Lady Lendiniara):

Deathmaster Sarenth says 'Your will is useless, your death inevitable. In moments your flesh will melt away. All that is left will be the purity of bone. Do not struggle.'

Lady Lendiniara says 'Stand before me, those afflicted by the reckless beliefs of this so-called Deathmaster! This has gone too far! Come, and I shall heal you.'

Speak with Lady Lendiniara 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Sarenth has proven too powerful and has cursed you with magic. Speak with Lendiniara to be healed and to find out the truth of what has occurred in the plains of West Karana.

You say, 'Hail, Lady Lendiniara'

Lady Lendiniara stamps the ground and flaps her wings, knocking Deathmaster Sarenth to the ground. She breathes upon you, and the heaviness within your chest dissipates. 'You have been cleansed, but is your mind as clear as your body? There is much for us to [discuss].

This removes your death touch trigger.

You say, 'Discuss?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'Are you fearless? Do you not dread a death by claw, tooth, or breath? Thus far, the only ones who have had the will to approach a dragon are the ones whose insanity has substituted for courage.' Lendiniara clacks her claws against the stone. The chains around her head jingle as she lowers her neck and stares at you from beyond sight. 'Your spirit is free, not shackled by false beliefs. You are no [cultist] or [soldier].'

You say, 'Cultist?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'The Doomscale...small minds drowning in grief and despair, clinging to my scales, struggling to keep their heads above downward currents. Though I am the cause of their suffering, I am not their salvation. Even now the [currents] rise above my own head.'

You say, 'Soldier?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'Ignorant men planning ignorant deeds. They will make war upon me, the destroyer of the Karanas, the bane of Qeynos. Not one of them has crept to the edge of the pit and seen for himself whether I bear these titles in truth! No, men will be swept away by the [currents] of fear and the blind belief in the commands of their superiors.'

You say, 'Currents?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'We will all soon drown in the mists that pour into these Karanas. The barrier I ruptured upon my [arrival] disintegrates. Your world is turning to gray. Everything shall be lost in [Ethernere]'

You say, 'What about your arrival?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'Recent events swirl in my mind like a gray thunderhead. My passage here was a flight through a great cloud of thunder, a cataclysmic cacophony. My vision still dims trying to recall all of it, but I shall endeavor to [recount] what I can.'

You say, 'Recount it!'

Lady Lendiniara says 'I came from a world much like yours. I recognize these lands as the Karanas I knew in my own time. That is the way of things: There must be a world for everything conceivable, for every possibility. And in my world there was also Kerafyrm. This sleeping dragon awoke, and he came to destroy me. I, the keeper of the Claws of Veeshan and wielder of chronomagic, was one of the first he tried to devour in his attempt to swallow the world. My chronomages readied my [retreat] to deny the Sleeper his victory.'

You say, 'What is the Ethernere?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'It is a world between worlds, the way station of the dead. Any being that dies, god or mortal, rides its currents to their eternal home. It is a vast stream, with infinite tributaries, flowing to all corners of existence. Most of the dead sail to their destinations in silent slumber, but some founder on the shores and linger. Perhaps they join the [Harrowing Horde] or wander endlessly.'

You say, 'What about the Harrowing Horde?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'Even I know not the true nature of the Horde. Do the masses of lost dead fill their ranks? Did Ethernere itself give birth to them? I know the Horde are the keepers of Ethernere, maintainers of its purity. They see the dead to their resting places, and they cleanse the stream of anything that does not belong. The Gehein, Tirun, Skirth, and Orafik: You have seen them in the Karanas. My [arrival] has brought them here, and they continue to seek purity. As Ethenere seeps out, they will cleanse everything, and everyone.'

You say, 'How did you retreat?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'I flew past time itself. In a shell of magic I shot through the fabric of time and space, like an arrow loosed over a waterfall. I knew not where I headed as I plunged into the stream of Ethernere, rending a surface that is so nigh impenetrable to the living. As I coursed through its currents, I saw the throngs of the dead open their eyes and stare at my passage. I saw the Horde teeming at my tail. And I heard the [call] floating to me from a far off void.'

You say, 'The call?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'It was a sad voice, filled with despair and tinged with a growing madness. It called for me to meet it in the void, to bring to it the knowledge of one who has passed through the realm of the dead while yet living. He called me to tell him the secret of life and death, and he would unlock for me a trove of knowledge so vast that I could spend an eternity and not fathom half of it. This forsaken voice was the last I heard before I broke through the [other side].'

You say, 'What is the other side?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'When I ripped into your world, I brought with me the disaster you now see. Time, space, and Ethernere now bleed into your world, and likely into mine. In my attempt to save one world, it appears I have doomed all of them. As I lay here in the pit, exhausted from my arrival, I saw forms rushing around me: the Horde, the spirits of the dead, and powerful [creatures] whose beings radiated malevolence.'

You say, 'What about these creatures?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'While I was yet weak, one of these creatures stepped from the mists and stood before me, laughing cruelly before walking out of the pit. Many more like it must have passed into your world as I lay in a weakened slumber. It has already begun. The waters are [rising].'

You say, 'Rising?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'The Ethernere stream rushes through the gash I tore, filling up this world like a reservoir. No doubt the same will happen in my world. _____, we must repair the breach. I am no threat to you or the inhabitants of this land. I only wish to [stop] what I have set in motion, to undo the destruction my actions will bring. _____, we must heed the call.'

You say, 'How can we stop it?'

Lady Lendiniara says 'The portal behind you leads to the void, to the voice I heard. It may know how I can return to my own world and repair the barriers between the lands of the living and Ethernere. Hurry, before all is lost!'

Speak to Zebuxoruk 0/1 (The Void)

Task Window Says: Lendiniara has urged you to enter the void and seek out the one who called her.

Enter the Void through the portal to the west of Lady Lendiniara.

You say, 'Hail, Zebuxoruk'

Zebuxoruk says 'A thousand times, a million times, perhaps even more: How many times have I seen your face? How many times have I forgotten it and remembered it again? Time flows in its river, in its infinite vermiculated pathways. Here Norrath drowns in the silt of conflict and strife. There it rises above the waters and becomes a gleaming island. Choice and consequence appear to me as but illusions, merely one gazing at its own reflection in calmer waters. But I always see your face appear in the stream. You always answer the [call].'

You say, 'The call?'

Zebuxoruk says 'A request, a wish, a plea...in these chains, behind these bars at the end of the universe, I have seen more than any being, god or mortal, can ever imagine. All is a dim vortex, whirling down, concentrating inside me. I see the glimpses of people and places flowing by, seen for a moment before they are lost in the torrent. And in the rush of all possibilities I saw a [dragon] skimming over the waters between all worlds.'

You say, 'What about the dragon?'

Zebuxoruk says 'Where does one being end and another begin? Two spirits suspended in blood and flesh, two that you would call distinct, separate. But time shoots an arrow through both their hearts. They fall upon the earth, and their blood intermingles, becoming one in the dust. The dragon is a scaly arrow shot between two worlds. Already she has pierced the hearts. But the blood can be staunched. I knew her. I called to her. I awaited her reply, as I await all things. But [others] heeded the call.'

You say, 'What others?'

Zebuxoruk says 'You stand before me, do you not? You and many more like you. Ideas, faces, plans: They all mix and muddle. The wound must be repaired, the arrow returned to its bow. So many voices, so many [plans].'

You say, 'Plans?'

Zebuxoruk says 'Singular objects, with singular purposes, with a singular existence...beacons seen in all worlds. They will light our [paths]. They will guide us to the houses of healing, where the wounds of eons may be repaired.'

You say, 'What paths?'

Zebuxoruk says 'As a flood fills every crease and crevice, so the punctured heart bleeds into the valleys and crypts once thought lost. Follow the veins and find the [realms] unknown.'

You say, 'What realms?'

Zebuxoruk says 'A cave of warring bixies, the hills of the dead, a forgotten gate in Neriak. I see you there. I see you reaching for the beacons, taking hold of Norrath's salvation. Travel the veins, the wide rivers that wend from the pit of the dragon. Find the beacons.'

Speak with Commander Galenth 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Zebuxoruk has asked you to find the hidden places of Norrath and discover objects of mysterious power. You should tell Commander Galenth of all that you learned.

You say, 'Hail, Commander Galenth'

Commander Galenth says 'Lendiniara? Zebuxoruk?! Your brain's turned to sour milk, and it's spillin' out your mouth! Is this what that cult's been shoving down your throat? Damn it, _____, I shouldn't have sent some floppy-minded adventurer to do a hardened soldier's job! Listen, we have cultists gearing up to assault our position, and we still have a dragon to kill. Quit doodling with your weapon and get ready to fight!'

You have discovered that Lendiniara is a dragon from another world that arrived in Norrath, breaching Ethernere and allowing its influence to seep into the land. Zebuxoruk has intimated that you will need to find objects of great power to close the rift, but his fragmented thoughts have not granted you much insight into his reasoning or intentions. You explained this to Commander Galenth, but he worries only about the impending cultist attack and the imagined threat from Lendiniara.

Killing Sarenth in a group

1) Earlier in the quest, you needed to get a cloak. You'll need to get another one to talk to Sarenth. One person can collect them for everyone and pass them out.

2) Activate the cloak. Dismount first. If the illusion does not appear, get another cloak, leave the group, restart the game, try again. Rejoin the group once he tells you to talk to the dragon.

3) The illusion does not last too long. I suggest letting it expire after you get the quest to talk to the dragon, so you don't have to manually remove it.

4) When you talk to the dragon, it will tell you to confront Sarenth. You have a short time before he becomes aggro. You might have time for everyone to talk to the Dragon before this happens. The main thing is to get the tank ready so they can keep Sarenth occupied if he attacks before everyone else has talked to the dragon. Once everyone has the text to confront Sarenth, burn him down. For a group, it should be easy.

It appears everyone in the group may have to put at least some damage on him to get credit for the kill. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for him to respawn, he attacks, tank him while those who missed out the first time can put damage on him.

Yay! Tracts are group loot (sorta) and fast respawn.

Once you find a tract spot you can just camp it. When one char loots it, the others get it on their cursor as well.

I wish they'd auto-update for the group and stack but this isn't too bad.

The spots I found the tracts. The first 3 are in the water (one in a house underwater), kinda tough to get to since the water is so shallow.

the dragon sees through the shroud so you don't need a third cloak - Deathmaster Sarenth's adds are pets of his - we only saw 2 of them - they're not bad.

You will only need one additional cloak for the final part of this quest, so two in total for the arc.

For at least the first time (and presumably the second) you need to get another cloak of the doomscale ritualist and shroud up.

I don't know yet whether lend will speak to you in ritualist form or whether you need another cloak for that
