Karg IceBear wanders the tundra, often passing by the North Tower.

You say, 'Hail, Karg IceBear'

Karg IceBear says 'Hail, traveler! I am Karg of Clan IceBear, lone hunter of the Everfrost Peaks. Have you seen any polar bears about?'

You say, 'I have slain a werewolf.'

Karg IceBear says 'Werewolf?! I have not seen a werewolf in years. Have you slain one and collected its skin or its claws?'

You say, 'I have its claws.'

Karg IceBear says 'Oh, a werewolf claw? If you were to give me the claw and 75 platinum, I could craft excellent gauntlets.'

Hand in Werewolf Claws and 75 pp for your reward.

Need hand-in dialogues, faction hits if any.

Does Karg really exist?
# Jun 22 2003 at 5:04 AM Rating: Default
I've been camping the Mam ruins for days and haven't seen him. I've even had rangers(lvl 20+) helping me at times and never had so much as atrace of him. What am I doing wrong?

Oh ya he does.

Spent a few days in E.F. killing Woolies. Made a few plats. Then about the 4th day(real time)I
zoned in and there he was on track. Met him just west of the fork in the river. Handed over 75 plat. and werewolf claws to get my Lupine Gauntlets. He despawned just after he gave em to me.

I highly recommend killing his Brother Matar. I looted two cloaks from him. Each was sold to vendors for 44 plat. each.

Heh, was hunting on Mammy Ramp in EF about 2 months ago and in the span of 30 min saw him 5 times. I guess his spawn time just varies )
damn karg

I found the WW just after porting in to WC, he conned blue so I decided to kill him just because I had never seen one before. Got the claws off him and came here to see what they were for. I thin went to EF and spent 4 or 5 hours killing mammys and waiting for karg. He never pooped. I'm starting tot hink these things aren't worth the time.
Got My Claw
# Mar 27 2002 at 9:35 PM Rating: Default
Well I had just gated into WC and was heading, lazily, towards EC when I found a Werewolf just south of the Cutthroat camp, Nuked to a glowing puddle and then looted a claw and sone silver. Imagen my surprise when I looked up what the claw was for. Nice to see a quest that doesn't make me wait 10 lvls to complete, Thank You VI.

how did you make 300pp off of mammoth tusks?
RE: how
# Jan 26 2002 at 6:52 PM Rating: Default
Depending on your faction they can sell for as much as 9.5 pp in Halas. He just got a lot of them. I financed my 24 and 29 spells off of mammoths.
RE: how
# Jan 31 2002 at 7:02 PM Rating: Default
Actually with high charisma (Enchanter) I easily make over 10pp per tusk. With a druid partner to pull, we pull in a about 100pp per hour. That's why you see level 40's running around killing mammoths. On our best night, with a group of 3 and few other hunters, we sold 72 tusks. Since I was doing all the selling, the others didn't realize how much they were making until the end of the night. When I handed 240pp to each of them, they were shocked.

I was in WC today checking out the event when I thought, what the heck ill ask if anyone has a WW claw they dont want. A really cool guy (Im sad to say I forgot his name already) came and gave me one. I gave him 2pp for his trouble and went home to EF to hunt some mammoths while I waited for Karg. I spent most of the night killing Mammoths (and making over 300pp off tusks) till Karg spawned, and i ran over like my **** was on fire and threw my claw and 75pp at him and got my sweet new lupine gauntlets. So if youre about lvl 25 its a good way to get some experience and money while you wait for that godawful random spawn.

Twice in one night!
# Jun 13 2001 at 3:54 AM Rating: Default
I have done this quest twice now for the Guants and twice for the cloak. Karg is very rare but last night I caught up to Him and gave Him the claw and 75pp, w/ any open inventory slot and recived gaunts. I started tracking immediatly after this and He was up again! I was able to do the WW cloak at this time. Pretty strange but true. The first time I hunted in EF for a month killing mammoth before I saw Him. BTW 100pp and WW pelt or skin for the Werewolf cloak

werewolf claw
# Jun 08 2001 at 2:32 AM Rating: Default
hahahaha I found a werewolf claw on a dwarf vendor. I bought it from her for 3 plat :p

talons are for the warrior armor quests I believe.

the musicians ARE werewolves, hence why they drop talons, and sometimes drop claws from what I hear.

if you want you can kill the wandering paladin in SK (who is a werewolf) but if you kill him while he is a paladin you will lose faction, kill him while he is a werewolf and you are free.

The locket is for paladin armor quest.

Are there any keywords or anything to do to active the quest with Krag, or do I just walk up to him, hail him and give him the stuff?
RE: Quest
# Feb 20 2001 at 5:57 AM Rating: Default
No keywords... simply find him (hard), keep him unattacked long enough to give him the items (harder)... he is popular fodder for his cloak and sword still, although newer weapons have made him less endangered in recent months.
Lupine Clawed Gaunts and Karg IceBear
# Jan 17 2001 at 6:33 PM Rating: Decent
I have camped Karg Icebear for two weeks straight, and never once did I see him, or did anyone else see him, while I was in zone, or at least they did not admit to killing him. The best place to spot him is Meagan's Tower, or North Tower. I recently spoke to a GM about the issues with this spawn, and most are unaware of the difficulties related to finishing the Lupine quests with Karg Icebear, due to the fact that he despawns right after you hand in the items and he gives you the appropriate reward, most loot farmers won't let you complete the quest, I have requested they change this despawning, to allow players interested in just finishing the quests to be able to do so, without loot farmers loosing their chances for items. We'll see how this goes...hoping to see something in a ptch announcement soon.

BTW I have a pair of these for sale on Saryrn if anyone wants to make some serious offers.

These drop in Castle MM too
# Dec 19 2000 at 5:49 PM Rating: Default
I am almost certain I got one of these off a gypsy musician or some other mob while I was in MM on my Armor of Ro quest. They dropped a few times too.
# Jan 01 2001 at 9:45 AM Rating: Default
Werewolf TALONS drop in MM from ummmmm werewolves. Don't go giving werewolf TALONS and 75pp to Karg.
# Jan 03 2001 at 8:45 PM Rating: Default
Werewolf CLAWS also drop in MM, though much more rare than the talons. Looted 4 talons and 1 claw in the gypsy musician room the other night.
I must be lucky

I was just wandering though WK minding my own business when one of these Werewolf fellows attacked me. Was blue to me (I'm lvl 30) so I figured what the heck, killed it (GREAT exp in a hell level BTW), and looted the claw. I was disappointed it wasn't something fabulous until I heard that they were actually used for something! I'm off to Everfrost soon, I've seen Karg so many times up there and I have track so I'm not too worried about it. Besides, I can always kill some mammoths while I'm waiting.

# Nov 10 2000 at 2:42 PM Rating: Default
Was killing bears in WC and a Werewolf attacked my pet(lvl 30 magician). He was green to me and the pet soloed him, dropped the claw, was very exciting, now i have to find karg, is there any spawn spot at all or is it completely random?

two druids and myself (30 rogue) were at mid spire in SK. Sentry Alchin (sp?) happened by in ww form and agro'd on us. Yellow to me and red to the 29 druid, which would make him L32 that time. We dropped him fairly easily, and he had a claw and the pally quest locket on him. Lost the roll for the claw and was wondering if this is the same claw dropped off WK/WC ww's for the LCG's?
Estimated Time

The estimated time on this quest is completely off. Even if you happen to stumble across a werewolf that has the claws you then have to find Karg. The problem with finding Karg is that he is one of those wandering NPC's that you just stumble across when you arent looking for him.

When I did the quest I I had killed around ten wolves up to that point, all at the entrance to WK. From reading these posts I realize that was fairly lucky. I then gave the claw to my monk friend and we proceeded to look for Karg. After several hours near meagans tower we decided to give up and just hunt the area since we were around level 17.

After a couple of hours of hunting we are about to pack it in when low and beyhold there is Karg on the ice. The monk turns the items in and now he has a nice pair of gauntlets that are in my opinion only really usefull to monks. I would rate this quest disappointing if you are one of the people that are "trying" to ge these. As an item you happen to stumble across I would rate it as very good. There is no way that this only takes 2 hours unless you are extremely lucky, even if you have tracking.
The claws

I have probably killed the werewolf near the entrance to WK around 20 times. 1 drop has had the claws, I have never seen the cloak but every time there wolf had close to 1pp in change loot. He seems to spawn starting at 8:00pm and has a chance to spawn at 10:30pm, 4:00am, and 6am. The most common spawn time for him seems to be at the 10:30 mark.

There are othe creatures that will spawn in that location at those times. If its not the wolf than it will be either a lion or one of the runners. There is probably at pattern to when the wolf spawns. One time I killed him at the 10:30 time and then heard though shout he was out again by one of the bandit camps, so there are at least 2 spawn points for him.

The level of the wolf in this zone WK is 25th level every time I have fought him. The one time I ran into one in WC he was white to my 20th level bard and was an easy fight with my monk friend. Sadly nothing dropped.

If you are looking for the talon I would say mistmoore is you only hope. I dont think that even if the item drops off these low level wolves that you will have much luck getting one. The drops are what I would consider "rare" off an "uncommon" spawn.

Werewolf Talons also drop off werewolves in MM... at nighttime werewolves can spawn in the place of the gypsy musicians... i've gotten a talon on both the gypsy musicians and the werewolves before
Rare and Cool
# Aug 25 2000 at 6:23 PM Rating: Default
there are really four factors that make up the quest:
1) Finding a WW is a rare happening, looting a claw off of one is very rare
2) Finding Karg in everfrost is difficult; not only is he an uncommon spawn, but his nice drops keep his life time low
3) When you complete the quest and karg gives you the lupine claw gaunts, he despawns right in front of you, thus you cant kill him for some nice loot
4) 75plat.. pocket change i know hehe, but back in the good old days before the planes and quest armor were in the game, this is actually one of the first quests in EQ that required a sum of money to be handed in

your pal,
morell thule
