Ostorm can be found in the east upper hallway in the Temple of Solusek Ro, at +430, -80, +35, through the door behind the throne along the corridor to the right.

Ostorm regards you indifferently -- You could probably win this fight.

You say, 'Hail, Ostorm'

Ostorm says, 'I am Ostorm of the Temple of Solusek Ro, guardian of the sacred crystal of Kintaz. Be wary and keep your distance, lest the proximity of the crystal [steal] your [memories].'

You say, 'Why would anyone make a crystal that steals memories?'

Ostorm says, 'It is the nature of the crystal of Kintaz to steal the memories of those around it. Only I am safe, and then only because of the strong wardings placed on me by Solusek Ro himself. Are you interested in [losing] any [memories]?'

You say, 'I may be interested in losing memories.'

Ostorm says, 'Recently, I have been experimenting with the crystal, and have found that those exposed to ruby light filtered through it may rearrange the memories of their specialized arcane skills. Are you sure you want to [rearrange your memories] of specialization?'

You say, 'Yes. I want to rearrange my memories of specialization.'

You have received a request timer for 'Crystal of Kintaz Specialization': 0d:0h:1m remaining.
You have been assigned the task 'Crystal of Kintaz Specialization'.

Ostorm says, 'With proper focus, we can allow you to keep some small part of your memories and transform them. Which skill would you like to specialize in? [Abjuration], [Alteration], [Conjuration], [Divination], or [Evocation]? Note, if you leave me before we have completed this process, you will need to start over.'

You say, 'I would like my primary specialization to be Alteration.'

Your task 'Crystal of Kintaz Specialization' has been updated.

Ostorm says, 'We will preserve your memories of Alteration.'

Ostorm says, 'With further focus, we can allow you to keep a bit more of your memories if they are strong enough. Which skill would you like to be your secondary specialization? [Abjuration], [Conjuration], [Divination], or [Evocation]? Note, if you leave me before we have completed this process, you will need to start over.'

You say, 'I would like my secondary specialization to be Abjuration.'

Your task 'Crystal of Kintaz Specialization' has been updated.

Ostorm says, 'You chose Alteration for your primary specialization and Abjuration for your secondary specialization.'

Ostorm says, 'What is your third skill choice? Is it [Conjuration], [Divination], or [Evocation]?'

You say, 'My third choice is Evocation'

Your task 'Crystal of Kintaz Specialization' has been updated.

Ostorm says, 'Your primary skill choice is Alteration. Your secondary skill choice is Abjuration. Your third choice is Evocation. What is your fourth skill choice? Is it [Conjuration] or [Divination]?'

You say, 'My fourth choice is Divination.'

Your task 'Crystal of Kintaz Specialization' has been updated.

Ostorm says, 'Your primary skill choice is Alteration. Your secondary skill choice is Abjuration. Your third choice is Evocation. Your fourth choice is Divination. Your fifth choice is Conjuration.'

Ostorm says, 'Are you ready to [continue]?'

You say, 'I am ready to continue'

Your task 'Crystal of Kintaz Specialization' has been updated.

You have received a replay timer for 'Crystal of Kintaz Specialization': 0d:0h:15m remaining.

Your memories have been adjusted.

Ostorm ..hear me? Ah, you seem to be coming out of your stupor. I think you have been exposed to the crystal long enough. By the time you leave the temple, your memories should have faded. Do you have the [fifty gold] coins that you owe me?
You say, 'fifty gold coins?'

Ostorm says, 'You do not remember? You promised me fifty gold coins for allowing you to be exposed to the sacred crystal of Kintaz.'

Ostorm says, 'Thank you.'

I'm not sure what to do if Ostrom looks apprehensively at you if you are a cleric, but if you're an enchanter you can cast Benevolence or Collaboration and that should work.
what to ask the guy and faction

I am a lvl 34 cleric on Solusek Ro. Ostrom looks at me apprehensively. Do i need a better faction with the temple to do the quest? Is my lvl high enough to do the fast? And with which words do the quest start - tryed about 30 min almost everything, nothing happened.

I'd like to know the answer to this also. I'm a lvl 41 druid and Ostorm wouldn't say anything to me except "get lost" I decided to give him the ruby and money anyway, which of course was a bad idea as he just took it an nothing happened. Any suggestions?
Still a bit confused on specialization...

I am an enchantress, and just now have been thinking about changing my specialization from alteration to conjuration, (I think, whichever one does buffs to the one that does mezz), until the post about wasting less mana on buffs. I agree, it does take an extremely large amount of mana to cast quickness (last I checked) and now that I've specialized, it takes a lot less to cast augmentation and clarity.

But I'm still a bit confused on specialization in general... When you go to your trainer, there are spots to specialize in all skills. Can you specialize in all of them, or just one? I thought it was just one, but the post about how specialization said that there was a type of specialization for every type of spell that could be cast.

And, if you can specialize in more than one, (which I'm beginning to doubt, but I'm just checking), is it random which skill goes past 50? or is it the first one you specialized in?

Also, I've noticed that alteration and specialize alteration has gone up from time to time. Do you need to put extra practice points into the specialize skill for it to go up any higher? Or will it do it on its own?

Sorry for so many questions, but I'm still a bit confused, (this is my main and highest caster), and I would like a lot of info on this topic.

Bel'la dos,
thank you for your time.

You MUST put a point into EVERY class of specialization. If you fail to do this, no class will advance beyond 50. Once each class has at least skill 1, one of the classes can then advance past 50 and be your main specialization.
RE: Still a bit confused on specialization...
# Mar 19 2001 at 4:01 PM Rating: Good
Yes you can specialize in all your forms of magic. How it works is as you use each form of magic you gain not only in the skill itself, but you also have the chance to gain in the specalization of that skill. As you can see it is quiet possible that you could have one magic skill advance into the 50 range of specialization before the one you really intend.

For this reason they have allowed the spcializations to be reset.

I hope this answers your question. If not post again with specific questions and I will try to help you out if I can.

They say this is a 1-60 quest, yet Intel casters don't get specialize until 20, and cleric at least don't get it until 30 ;)

Just a minor point.

Just did the quest with my lvl 46 cleric on Sol Ro.
Hardest part was figuring out the wording to have him give you the quest details. Once I got that down he took the ruby. The specializations were reset once i zoned.
And just an FYI - he asks you for the 50 gp you owe hiim after you give him the ruby but I didnt have any cash left on me so I took a chance and it worked just fine.

Evocation seems like a cool specialize, but conjuration is really a mage's specialty, and it is also the school of your most powerfull DD spells.
RE: think 1st
# Aug 11 2001 at 1:28 AM Rating: Default
Conj is a mages specialty but you only use Conj. spells in "non-important" times. Evo is the class i specialized in because you will use more Evo spells mid-battle then you will Conj. Unless your the type of mage who prefers to stock up on bread and water while your group does all the work.

Unless your gonna do the resummon pet trick your whole soloing career specialize in Evocation.

You forget that the Mage's Shock of Blades, Spikes, Swords and Steel are Conjuration Based DD spells. Fact is Shock of Steel lvl 57 is our most powerful DD spell we have, We have one Bolt spell that does more Damage.
However these spells are really spread out in lvls and we have more Evoc DD spells

You can do this quest with indifferent faction, no gold needed, he only asked me for a ruby. Not pure caster only, my shaman just did the quest.
how it work?

Can it raise skills?
# Sep 29 2000 at 6:23 PM Rating: Default
Somebody asked this before? In theory, if you do this quest, when you hit level 20(for intelligent casters). Would it automatically raise everything to 49?(all 5 skills)

I just try (im level 8) and it did not raise my skill
RE: Can it raise skills?

That's because you have to be lvl 20 before you get the skills that this quest concerns itself with
Enchanters
# Aug 16 2000 at 5:13 PM Rating: Default
If you're an enchantress =) like me. I picked alteration initially, but plan on changing it to Conjuration once I hit around level 40 or so.

Reason: MEZZES! That's the reason people really want an enchantress besides clarity.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 02 2001 at 5:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It is a tough one for enchanters. On one hand, you have all of the alteration spells, which include the buffs and debuffs. And these spells are used frequently. But on the other hand, the mez spells are really the ones you need to get off in a pinch. If something is going bad, the slightly reduced casting time that specialization affords will really come in handy with the mez line. Ever try to get a mez off while a mob is hitting you? :) This would definitely help.

# Oct 24 2000 at 5:50 AM Rating: Default
It's hard to tell what an Enchanter should chose for this, At high levels your primary purpose is crowd control, But wile the mezz line of spells is mana friendly, the buffs (and just about all are other spells) are not. I've been pondering changing to conjer for about 20 levels now, but because even though I cast mezz as much or more then any other spell, much more mana still goes to Hastings the Tanks giving clarity and so on.
So in other words, is there any point to having mezz cost 1/2 mana when your OOM from buffing the party and debuffing mobs?

Specialization
# Aug 21 2000 at 12:24 PM Rating: Excellent
Specialization works like this:

You get 5 Specialization skills, one for each school of spellcasting: Abjuration, Alteration, Conjuration, Evocation, and Divination.

The INT caster classes get these skills at level 20, which means all specializations start with 20 skill points. The WIS caster classes get them at level 30, so they start with 30 points in each skill.

These skills then increase like any other, you'll get a point in each one occasionally when you cast a spell of that school. A successful "Specialization roll" means that spell has less chance to fizzle and costs less mana to cast.

Only ONE of your specialization skills can increase past 50, all the way to 200. So once one of the skills hits 51, it will continue to increase, while the others cap out at 50.

Where this quest comes in useful is when you accidentally get specialization in the wrong school of casting. Suppose you are a magician. You cast a lot of conjuration spells, and you end up specializing in conjuration. Later on, you decide that evocation would be a better choice so you can get those nukes off in battle more reliably. So you go and do this quest, which allows you to change your specialization to evocation.

Aye it is true that Clerics, Droods, and Shaman can respecialize.... but they ARE true casters as well (Man why is it only INT are remembered as spell casters JEEZ). The part that is wrong is that only pure-melee classes get disciplines. Hybrid classes get them as well (i.e. Trueshot discipline for rangers) Oh, and btw, is someone is mistaken about something, please try to inform them. Don't come on here and say 'NOPE!', especially if you turn out to be the one that is wrong =)

#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 01 2000 at 6:21 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hey Nullindar, Arzen said nothing about thinking he got a 150pp ruby off a level 3 mob. Try reading his post. He even says he wasn't sure if it was the right gem. Don't laugh at people that are honestly trying to help. Especially when you have no idea what they are saying.
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 31 2000 at 3:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Speaking of relax, you should follow your own advice. You bit A-wizard's head off when all he said was that the ruby from Chomper is a fake one and wouldn't work for the quest. Which is very helpful...

Rubies are only available from the 18-gem vendors.

You can buy in High Keep (by the bank), Qeynos (Iron forge's), Erudin (In the palace), Kelethin. Possibly more on Faydwer and Kunark.

Base price is 131pp+change. Don't pay more; find someone with good faction/cha to buy for you.

You can do this quest as many times as you want. Although it's not reccomended, as rubys are VERY expensive (had to buy one for my shovel of ponz) You can only use the store bought ruby for this, not the fake one off chomper (i did the quest with my rogue char). An interesting bit about this quest is that if you happen to be very rich at the time you hit level 20 and get your specilizations, you can jump them all to 49 with this (in theory, i havn't tested this) and then get the one you want to 50.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 16 2000 at 10:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Arzen, are you wack or something!? It was a LARGE ruby, for a rogue quest in RV, you thought you could kill a lvl 3 mob and get a ruby worth 150pp, Im laughing my *** off right now HAHA
Rubies
# Jul 12 2000 at 12:59 PM Rating: Good
Rubies are sold by several of the gem merchants for 130-160pp, depending on your CHA. Not all gem merchants sell rubies. Ironforge in Qeynos certainly does, and I think the clockwork jeweler in the Ak'Anon bank does as well, but I don't know of any others that do.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 12 2001 at 4:53 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Mine cost 99pp 8gp, because of my amazingly high CHA.
RE: Rubies
# Jun 06 2001 at 11:21 PM Rating: Default
Hahahah nice joke
Even at 250 Cha you wouldnt get a ruby cheaper than 131pp. Stop being an idiot. Past 100 something, cha doesnt lower prices at the merchant.
RE: Rubies
# Nov 13 2004 at 2:46 PM Rating: Decent
At indifferent faction, 110 CHA is the max you need to get the vendor's best prices (buying or selling). At apprehensive I think its something near 135. Higher faction drops the CHA needed for best prices, but the best price you will ever find for a ruby is 131pp 2gp 4sp 9cp.
