You say, 'Hail, Joyce'

Joyce says 'I am Joyce of the Temple of Solusek Ro. I am the guardian of four of the items of the elementalist. If you are a magician, ask me about the [Robe of the Elements], the [clay bracelet], the [earthen boots] or the [Circlet of Mist]'

You say, 'What clay bracelet?'

Joyce says 'The clay bracelet is a wonderful piece of jewelry to wear on your wrist. It provides fine protection, enhances your resistance to magic, and lets you call forth a mystic eye to help you in your travels. Are you [interested] in the [bracelet]?'

You say, 'I am interested in the bracelet'

Joyce says 'I will make you a clay bracelet, but you will need to bring me the proper components. I will need each of the four runes of clay. Three of them can be found in the Rathe Mountains, held by gnomish necromancers. The fourth one is somewhere in the Ocean of Tears, held by a goblin headmaster. Bring me these four components, and I will make you a clay bracelet.'

Time to search and destroy. Find Bindlegrob, Sindlegrob and Findlegrob in the Rathe Mountains. Loot "Rune of Clay" off each of them (they have three separate pieces -- right, left and top.)

Now go kill a goblin headmaster in the Ocean of Tears (at +2430, -5780 post-revamp) for the bottom piece. Hand the four Runes in and receive a Clay Bracelet:

Joyce says 'One, two, three.. all four runes of clay! I knew you looked competent. I am very impressed! Please take the clay bracelet that you have earned.'

Since buffs don't decay in PoK, the eye lasts until you cancel it. You can even buff it with SoW and run around PoK pestering people.

This quest is absolutely worth the effort! I breezed right through it as a level 35 magician with merc. I expect to use the reward item frequently.

I can confirm that this quest is still active. Bindlegrob may take multiple killings to get his rune though.

Every mage should have that little helper. EVERY mage.

I'm 85 with quite a few AAs, well equipped, blah blah, and so on, and so forth.

Still I use that very often.

Best example ... revamped Guk and Unrest. I can stay in an area I cleared, sit down, and scout when the respawn in the first room I cleared begins. Everyone who ever solo'd stuff there knows how awesome that is. I don't need to get close.

While I do that, I can rebuff me and my pet, the Eye DOES NOT fade while I do so, unlike the new Eye (Aspect of Zomm). Yea, you didn't missread that. It really is awesome!

With just a little fantasy you can think up nice stuff having that fact in the back of your head:

I pull stuff, let my pet tank it, cast that Eye and continue scouting. I can still fight that mob!
I'm somewhere completely diffrent, still I can nuke the hell out of the mob I just pulled.

I really don't exaggerate when I say: "This is one of the BEST clickys out there! Get it!"

On top of that I don't need to memorize a spell, that's still quite useful, even with 10 Spell Slots.

/agree absolutely! Two boxing, I got this for my mage at level 5. Realizing its importance along with the four focus items (broom, torch, shovel and stein), I got these for my mage (via two boxing, using high level ranger) before mage was level 5.

You don't have to equip it and is instant cast. Beautiful item---as you say.

Headmaster in Ocean of Tears
# May 21 2007 at 8:19 PM Rating: Decent
Now that the zone Ocean of tears has been revamped, the headmaster now spawns but has moved to the isle west of the island the boat from Butcherblock drops you off at. He is now on the north part of this isle at loc +2430, -5780. ( previously he was on the isle due south of the isle boat droped you at).

I started this quest just after TBS went live, got the 3 runes from the gnomes in Rathe Mnts. Went to OOT to get the rune from the headmaster and have yet to see him spawn. I am at the lock mentioned, and have done the quest for my necro a long time ago, so I know I am on the right island, camp, etc. Has this spawn been broken or was he moved somewhere else? Any help would be nice thanks

I was still using this at L60 for dungeons solo (extremely handy) and in LDoN's, no mana requirement. You can send out the eye, sit and med while still searching.

I have done this quest with a Ranger and a Necromancer.
Neither could use the item.

Sorry, but your wrong...

It is clickable from inv (my mage does all the time) only thing it is clickable only my mages. The reason other classes can't use it is because of how necros would abuse it for lifetaps.
Must Have quest for mages
# Aug 20 2004 at 9:15 AM Rating: Decent
This quest is extremely easy to do, and hugely beneficial. SK's and Necros will love you for your instaclick eyes which can be tapped. Very useful for instant scouting. Can also use to explore deep in some dungeons if cast against a wall.

No, and no.

You don't have to equip it, and no, not anyone can use it, only magicians.

Those of you who know the value of this trinket, please rate this quest up to let other magicians know this quest is worth doing.

I have to agree. Any soloing mage that wants to free a spell slot or that fights in NToV will want this instant click. Scouting > all when you can't get too close to doors for fear of agroing mobs inside. I use mine at least 15 times a day.

5.00 quest
# Mar 17 2004 at 6:06 PM Rating: Decent
I don't know why this quest is rated so low, I think this is a more important quest for any Mage than the epic, given the time involved for the reward, the overall usefulness of this item, and the questionable value of the epic pet.
RE: 5.00 quest
# May 07 2004 at 12:33 AM Rating: Decent
I agree. No mage is complete without this bracelet. I use it all the time whereever I go. Clerics LOVE you on LDoNs when they can assist off you and pacify all the targets in the room without risking a person entering the room. That and the White Ceramic Band (casts Burst of Flame for 5 damage) are essential if you're going to solo.
RE: 5.00 quest
# May 07 2004 at 1:12 PM Rating: Default
Agreed. Awesome item for a mage.

The reason the quest is rated so low is because for a long time Eye of Zomm would aggro mobs onto it, making it useless for scouting, plus you couldn't cast it if you had a pet up, making the spell (and this item) almost completely useless. Now that both have been changed, I agree, this is a 5.0 quest easily.

I'd just like to point out that the runes are a potentially much rarer drop than some posts here would make you think... did the quest today, got Findlegrob's on the first kill, Sindlegrob's on the third kill, but I had to kill Bindlegrob 19 (!) times to get his. Got the headmaster's on the 5th kill.

All mobs for the quest were cake for a 44 mag; send in 44 air pet w/BO2, shock of swords, dead mob.

Did this quest in about two hours yesterday after getting fed up with having to mem Eye of Zomm in dungeons: not surprisingly it was very easy for a 48 Mage, other than finding the mobs to kill.

Two of the gnomes were at the first undead tower after entering Rathe Mountains from Feerott: just hug the left wall until you reach it. Air pet to distract them and stop them casting and one nuke == fried gnome. Took several kills to get the Runes, but they did drop. Third gnome was around 2100, 800 on the other side of the zone: that one dropped the Rune first time.

Then I got lucky with the boat from East Freeport arriving just as I got to the dock (not sure if there's still a translocator there, but I'm probably KoS in OOT anyway as a Dark Elf). The headmaster is on the island with the Oracle and friends just across from the first stop on the way from Freeport to Butcherblock: two kills and he dropped the final Rune.

Then just a gate to PoK, run to Sol Ro from Nektulos, and I got my new toy. Yay!

I agree quest took about 2 hours. All of the gnomes dropped the piece on the first kill except one of the ones in the tower by the undead camp. Other gnome is in the tower near the lake zone (kind of in the opposite corner of that cove). Head master dropped his piece on the second kill. Awsome item. Clickable from inventory and instant cast. Did this at level 58 so cant really say how hard the mobs were. No mage that can solo these mobs should be without one (and if you cant solo them, bring a friend, you need this item).

Am I missing something and killing a wrong version of Findlegrob ?

I found Sindlebrog and Bindlegrob in their tower and got their rune in 2 kills of each.

But so far I have killed Findlegrob 8 times and no rune ... is it uber rare or am I just missing luck / doing something wrong ?

*EDIT* : after 14 kills I got the Rune of Clay. Darn it was tiring.

Ok for those wondering, You can not use this effect by right clicking it from inventory unless you are a class that can use this spell. I found out the hard way a few hours earning all the stones, hand them in and my diety, race, class cannot use this ability.

So no a warrior can't right click it from inventory to cast this spell.

Howdy fellow mages,

Since they allow the Eye spell and pets up at the same time this thing is great. It took me just over an hour to do this entire thing. Most of that time was spent lost in Freeport looking for the docks and doing that thing most of us have not done in a year, waiting on a boat. The portals in PoK make the travel time on this minumal minus the boat to OOT. The 3 necros in Rathe all went down easily at 51 and each had the rune. The Goblin Headmaster took about 8 spawns before he dropped it but the respawn in something like 5 minutes so no big deal getting the rune. From reading this I am thinking I just had bad luck getting this to drop quickly, at least it wasnt something like a 5 1/2 hour Hadden spawn. Once I did the trade in to Joyce I hopped across the lava pool to SolB, whipped up a pet, clicked the bracer and ran the eye around a corner to find a close Kobold. Targeted it with the eye, hit pet attack and sat there chatting in guildchat safely near the zone. For little over an hour effort, this is a great toy at any level, I just wish I had bothered to do it 20 levels ago. I will suggest this one to every mage I meet.

usefull?
# Jul 16 2002 at 3:44 AM Rating: Decent
this item is extrememly usefull to higher level mages now that u can have the eye and a pet out at the same time. u can send the eye around corners targeting mobs and sending the pet in from a distance. mobs will rarely aggro you because you are out of visual range. you can also target several mobs with the eye from a distance and hit /pet attack several times effectively building a kill list for your pet, and ur pet will kill each mob one by one. usefull for farming.
You can't use this like old dark elf mask, need to be a mage
