Lord Gikzic may be found in the Temple of Terror, up a flight via transporter at +1035, -165, +46. At the end of the previous quest, he mentioned a [greater concern].

    You say, 'What greater concern?'

Lord Gikzic says 'A tome has been taken from us. An expeditionary unit was returning to Cabilis when they were overtaken by a band of froglok raiders. The odds were greatly in their favor, but our forces would soon cut them down. Then, as abruptly as the battle began, it came to an end. The frogs retreated. The only item they took was an ancient tome entitled 'The Origins of Pain'. What the frogs want with it is unknown to us. Will you [retrieve the tome]?'

You say, 'I will retrieve the tome.'

Lord Gikzic says 'The tome ripped open in battle. There were but ten pages. This is one of those pages. You must find the remainder and the tome binder. Place the pages within the binder and once you combine them, the binder shall magically lock. Do not look upon the pages, for the words would bring a great madness upon you. Your task is simply to seek out the froglok raiders and return the magically locked tome to me. Return it with a knave's khukri and I shall give you a more powerful weapon.'

You receive a Page of a Tome (identifies as "Page Ten of 'Origins Of Pain'"). It's a note/book but is blank.

Go to the bandit camp east of Cabilis, in the northern part of the Swamp of No Hope. Kill the froglok raiders there until you've collected the nine other pages. All but one page is LORE, but they can be traded. The raiders also sometimes drop a Tome Binder (identifies as "The Origins of Pain"), a NO TRADE 10-slot container. Combine the ten pages in the binder:

You have fashioned the items together to create something new!
You have fashioned Magically Locked Tome.

    Give this to Gikzic.

Lord Gikzic says 'I shall keep this and you shall get no reward, unless you wield a knave's khukri. If so, then hand me that also and I shall give you a squire's khukri. A finer weapon to deal out pain.'

    Give him the Knave's Khukri.

Lord Gikzic says 'You have done as instructed. You are wise to hand this tome to me. It could bring you nothing more than insanity. As your reward, you shall have the squire's khukri. Soon you shall wield the knight's khukri, but that is for another Lord of Pain to decide.'

Your faction standing with Crusaders Of Greenmist has been adjusted by +10.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis has been adjusted by +2.
    You gain experience!!
You receive 3 gold from Lord Gikzic.

you will get these to spawn more often if you kill their place holders. The place holders are giant mosquitos and man eating shrubs

Ok, now, I am not saying the other posts are wrong...
BUT, here are some VERY important facts I have uncovered during this damn quest. Once you enter the swamp head east to the single pillar, from there you can see the Iksar camp. Now, the time of day does not matter squat (see previous posts). For I slayed 5 count them 5, during the day hours yesterday. What you need to do is continuously run in a large circle around the camp, peeking back and forth side to side. Be careful when approaching the pillar, sometimes the ugly red con skelly is close by or the Froglok Knight/Warrior. Here are the locations where I found all my pages and binder. Two raiders were within spitting distance of the Iksar tents. Three were within range of the single pillar. Two were to the left of the camp (as seen from the pillar) slightly hidden in the woods. The final three were taken on the right side of the camp (as seen from the pillar) over the hill top near or in that little section of water. There ya go! Now, these locations were duplicates several times, but those were the main areas you guys need to look. Once again, all I did was circle the camp, constantly looking back and forth and walla! The only mobs you need to worry about aggroing are other Iksars, big red con frogs, and the ugly red con skeletons. NOTHING ELSE AGGROS, not even when your to assist when your attacking another like mob. I hope this helps you guys out. OH, I am not sure if these are placeholders, but the ONLY thing I killed while hunting the raiders are: maneating shrubs (blue to me), Froglok Fisherman, and the Froglok Skipper. =) Good luck fellow Shadow Knights!

Well, I am in the Rodcet world and am having the same difficulties. The first night I camped the raiders (6 hours) I got 6 lore pages and the non-lore 1. Second night (4 hours) I got 1 more lore page. I have now camped since then for about a total of 48 hours...found a total of about 20 raiders...all pages found are duplicates. This is one of the worst quests that Verant has ever made for a level 10 to suppose to be able to complete, especially when compared to the warrior's second upgrade quest. (I am trying to do it at level 17 and have been de-leveled because of 10+ deaths I know.)

    Update:

Today, due to pure luck, I logged in and started camping again. The first two raiders I killed had the 2 lore pages I needed. Good luck to all and hope it doesn't take you as long as it did I.

Thanks for your Post. I am a Fellow Shadow Knight of the Veeshan World.
I agree with everything you said, completely and found the same errors that you did. However I only have one page left to gain, and can't seem to get it.
I do not understand. Me and my friends have Camped the Iksar bandit camp 5 different nights, for 5 and 6 hours straight, gaining good EXP, but no more Raiders. We cleaned out the Bandits, we have killed all the various Frogs, including any Fisherman, Skippers, Bounders, Escorts, SLaves, Warriors, Shamans. Killed Plants. And no raiders Spawn. I have for the past two months in total frustation camped it alone 4 and 5 times a week for 2 to 4 hours giving up EXP to hunt the Raiders. Just running and running to find the frog Raiders, but they are not spawning.

    Any further Idea.

    Thanks and Take Care..

YES!!! I was worried about that too because I had read many of the pages, but today I got the last two pages, combined them, and turned the binder in with my naves kukri and BING!!!! it worked fine. I got 1 gold, exp, and the squires kukri! I already have a glowing skull in the bank so I will immediatly turn that in with the squires kukri to get the knights kukri. You can read the pages and it wont efect the quest, i read most of them and it still worked.

I've been hunting pages for three night now, and yes, I did read some of my pages (thinking 'what could possibly happen?'). Someone told me today that if I read a page, it becomes worthless to me. Is this true? If yes, how can I find out which pages did I read and which Did I not read?

If I have to get all of my pages again, how can I get the one the Iksar gave me when I got the quest again?

I just hope I don't have to get every single page again.

This is a problem I think I'm facing, I wanted to see what item it was, not actually read it. But my stupid mouse, double clicked it and opened it.

Does that mean it is worthless? I haven't a clue, I have 8 lore pages, 1 non lore from a drop and the 1 that was given to me and it won't combine. WTF! I started this at L12 and now I'm L30. I'm really tired of this quest. Anyone have any suggestions?

Is that it's managed to prove to me that I need to jump to whatever the next mmorpg and never touch verant again with a 12 foot pole. I've spent three consecutive nights in swamp of no hope, the entire night (rl night) walking around killing everything that wasnt TOMBSTONE (cause there is so many things there that isnt tombstone to me at level 13!... all 3 or so things) and have managed to *see* 0 raiders and maybe 15 froglocks that didnt con tombstone to me. AO, SB, HZ, anything else hurry up and get released so i can do something else.

I've been clearing the area for about four days and still need one page. I won't be wasting any more time on this quest.

I may, however, go to the next Dork Fest Verant organizes and kick whoever wrote this quest in the nuts.

I don't know how you can estimate the time for this quest at 6 hours, I have needed 2 pages for alongtime now. As for the next quest I will have it done as soon as I complete this one as I already have The Glowing Skull. It was a hell of alot easier to get than these stupid Lore Pages!

    Some Advice On This Quest
    # Mar 15 2001 at 12:29 PM Rating: Default
I *finally* completed this quest last night. Being that I got so tired of waiting I got a bird's eye view of the area (tracking). I'll share a few things that I discovered over time.

    1) With exception of the page you are given to start the quest, these pages are lore but NOT no drop. This means you can take an alt in to collect the pages. But do remember, the binder IS no drop. I finally got so tired of waiting, I brought in my level 38 bard to track these suckers and kill them quickly. I collected as many pages as I could and dropped them and logged my SK in to see which ones I had or didn't have. Also, when the binder dropped, I logged my SK in and waiting til I could just loot it.

    2) They spawn around the iksar camp, but they can spawn just out of sight from the camp heading away from the city too. Don't always expect them to just walk into the clearing by the camp. They can be somewhat far away from the camp thick in the trees.

    3) They only spawn at night. Starting at around 7pm game time you'll start seeing them. So don't waste your time in the day unless you can kill for xp.

So, I HIGHLY recommend getting someone with tracking to help you on these if you can. I found that killing everything in sight does nothing to help the spawn. I was trying the first night by killing every froglok around, but the second night I saw just as many raiders and I didn't kill any other frogs.

Good luck on the quest! Look at it this way. The next SK quest took me all but about 10 minutes. :)

Only thing I have to add...

First time I did this quest, I left the swamp happy with my nine pages and my binder, got my no drop page from the bank, combined, and *poof* lost all the pages...

    I almost cried...

I petitioned, to no avail, then I started the quest over again, and found that one, yes ONE, of the bleeding pages isn't Lore...So check those pages very very carefully before you combine...

Here is the deal. Go to the Swamp then take a left, until you see a path, then travel it until you see the Iksar Camp.

Next step: I have learned that Froglocks seem to only spawn during night (about 1am game time) and every now and then during the day.

Finally: Kill the placeholders, those being the Iksar in the camp 8) I am currently 17 and have trouble handling 2 occasionally, but 3 forget it you need full health for that (dont worry bout mana cuz you'll never get off more than 5 spells off during the fight). MAKE SURE YOU SUMMON A PET AND GIVE HIM THE GUARD HERE COMMAND SO YOU CAN PULL.

Note: Killing Placeholders does not always make Raiders spawn. There are 3 (more common) spawns those being Froglock Fisher, Bounder and Raider.

P.S.: If you want to figure out probability of actually getting the 10 other items (excludes page gotten already) well you got bout a 10% chance to get the last item you need 8( Y COULDN'T THEY JUST MAKE IT GET 10 PAGES AND A BINDER AND NOT MAKE EM ALL DIFFERENT!

    This quest sucks...

Not only do you have to camp and wait for raiders, you have to be weary of all the mobs around.

I cannot believe that anyone did this quest below level 17 without the help of really high level guys...that or you camped with SOW and waited to pick off scrappings of those higher trying to do the quest. I think they need to redo this quest as for your second quest to be in a place with L25 roaming mobs is a bit much.

Still need 2 pages...and suffered numerous deaths.

    Dakkona.
    RE: Must of had help
    # Feb 16 2001 at 11:53 AM Rating: Default
No, he didn't need help. I myself completed the quest at level 15. I started it at level 14. It took a while, but it wasn't all that bad. For most of the camp I was alone. No one else around to save me. For about 1/4 of it I had the company of another SK (level 15) that was trying to complete the quest herself too.

Yes, I DID have to be very careful about what was around me and I was careful to pull the Raiders to spots where I was able to kill the alone. Sometimes I would have to leave the area because there were just too many tough mobs, but most of the time I would just work around them. It wasn't all that hard. And there's also an NPC not too far away that's like a guard. Run to him and he'll kill what's chasing you. He's called Exile "something". Can't remember the name, but he's there. And he does kill hostile mobs when you bring them to him.

Anyway, I was able to solve it at 15 and I didn't have SoW like you mention. I also didnt even die once the whole time I was out there, but like I said I did have to give up sometimes and admit that the area was just too dangerous. But when I came back the next day it was usually better.

The last two pages and the binder were the worst for me. Half of the enitre quest was just for those three things.
    RE: Must of had help
    # Mar 12 2001 at 2:14 PM Rating: Default
Well then consider yourself lucky. Also the Iksar exile is KOS to me, I guess due to my faction with the bandits. On bored days, I take out the camp quite often. And trust me when I say that you do not want that exile to be KOS to you. I would barely get past the pillar there running away.

I am down to my last page now, but I am suffering deaths still. I think I have killed around 50 raiders looking for that last page. I also picked off a spyglass off a raider, which I have no clue what it is used for, and can't find any reference to it on websites.

Nothing like chasing a froglok raider through the swamp when there are two charbone skeles and an icebone skele around.

You have to admit that this is an insane quest for your second upgrade, while the warrior's second upgrade is a piece of cake.

Sorry for the empty post before.

Don't always believe what you read here. I am level 9 on Zeboxzurok (sp?), I have full patchwork armor (woot! ;-), and my Kuhkri (sp?).

I have had no help at all, and I have 6 pages after 4 nights, and left 5 duplicates on corpses.

This isn't *that* hard. There are higher level frogloks and skellies around, but if you use the overhead view alot, you can avoid them most times (I've died twice so far). Using the view that is directly over your head (rotated with the alt and arrow keys so you can see forward), you can see the nasty Frogloks and skellies far before they see you. It is a wide open area for the most part, and avoiding things should be easy (I just got careless a few times).

Even if a ton warrior jumps you, just beat feet to the guards near tower running and jumping all the way (just yell first of course!).

Even with the 2 deaths, I spend time killing shrubs, giant mosquitos, footpads, and skeletons. Eventually the raiders will spawn at random areas around the perimeter of the camp and have gone from lvl 9 to half a bubble from 10.

Most raiders are white, and some have been yellow. I can easily solo them with my pet and full newbie gear =).

I was there and decided to kill 2 birds with one stone as I had an enchanter friend with no iksar illusion. While waiting for the Ton Warrior I managed to get 9 pages off of the raiders but no container book. The 10th page that is NODROP is the page that you get when you start the quest, the others are droppable and LORE except one. They do all identify as pages 1 through 10 and I belive that the one that is handed to you is page 8. Make sure you only have ONE of the non lore pages when you combine them or you lose all the pages including the one from Gikzik. Shadow Knights don't get an identify spell so have a friend identify the pages if you want, I did it with identify song then passed all the pages to my shadow knight but you can have a bard or any pure caster target you and cast identify while you have a page on your cursor and you will get a message of it's identity. All of the pages off the raiders are tradeable but the binder is NODROP as is the resulting book after you combine the pages. FYI there is also a ton warrior that can spawn in firiona vie so you may see less higher level players out after the one here.

As i walked around i founded out that there are more that one camp. One must be a decoy and the other real. As i examine both i founded out that the one left of the city with your back turned into it. Froglok Raider only come at night and sometimes they come when it rains. The binder is easy enough. I found out that after kill around 8 raiders you start getting binders. I went throug 3 binders trying to find my last two. When i found them they were 1nodroplore from the lord, 8 lore and 1 non lore no drop. If you combine them anyother way it will break.

    Good Luck

I hate this damn quest. I got 10 pages but didnt know what I needed so I lost all of them including the page given by the lord, how do I get another? I've been working on it agin and have 7 pages now but sometimes when I kill a frog I cant pick up the page becuase it says i allready have one, but every page i have is LORE ITEM, so what does that mean? is every page different? if so how do i tell? i think they might be different from what ive read on other sites but how do i tell what a page is? also is it true that if i read the page the lord gives me or any other page i am screwed? cuz if so let me know now because i read them all. still havent found a non lore non no drop page.

Also what is the tome called when finished? because i bought a forbidden tone from a forbidden scribe in west cabilis is this the finished tome? is that why some pages i cant pick up? i dont want to try anything and lose my sword too.

My friend and i have been grouped in the swamp for 3 days trying to get all those darn pages. We are both 16 LVL SK's. Neither of us have seen the binder yet. But we both agree that this quest is a little unbalanced. the quest for the kngiht's kurkri is a lot easier. We both go in to Kurn's Tower to level up and have come across many glowing skulls. All we need now are the binders for us and we'll be able to get 2 upgrades.
Some info about the raiders and pages..
    # Jan 01 2001 at 12:24 AM Rating: Default
First, the Froglok Raiders can be found near the iksar exile camp in the sort of middle north of the zone. I didn't see them for a while but if you keep circling the camp you should see one eventually.. kill stuff in the area too that cons blue for ya.. might make raiders spawn

And for the pages.. you need the page you get when you start the quest, the binder, and 9 other pages. 8 of these other pages are lore, but one isn't. Make sure you only have ONE of the non-lore pages before you combine them, or it'll break and you'll have to start over. You should get 6 or 7 of the lore pages quick but the last couple will take a bit of hunting and killing to find :(

Also, kill everything around the camp, including noobie mosquitoes and leeches and well, basically anything that moves.

just to let you all know had my lvl 52 rogue at the bandit camp helping my enchanter get the totem for his iksar form quest. my rogue happened to kill a raider out of bordem on his way back to FV not far from the camp, as i attacked the raider he said " The master has commanded your death " being lvl 52 i laughed and continued on my way, not 50 steps from where the dead raider lay i was killed by a lvl 55 named froglok named Ulump Pujluk.

personally i think they have tied more into this quest than meets the eye... so just a warning BE CAREFUL cuz the named frog double backstabs for 255+ and will kill you in a flash unless you have an army of high lvl friends with you.

i am going to investigate this mob a bit more and hopefull pay him some revenge, if successful i will let ya know my findings =)

i've been listening for the last few weeks to the post, dreading the time to do this test, gotta say, wasn't to bad, died once only. and only took about 6 hours.

my advice, make your pull point near the wall, and always pull to there, the only things dangerios to you are frogloc warriors, and isksar brigards, all insects and bugs do nothing to you.
