You say, 'Hail, Sultin'

Sultin says 'I am Sultin - keeper of the three [incandescent]s of power and the [rod] of Insidious Glamour. If you are an enchanter, perhaps we can deal.'

You say, 'incandescent'

Sultin says 'There are three incandescent items of power - a [wand], [mask] and [gloves]. Are you [interested] in any of them?'

You say, 'I am interested in the wand'

Sultin says 'Ahh, the incandescent wand. If you will get the components to make another, I will give you mine. I will need a pouch of silver dust, found on the dusty werebat in the Estate of Unrest. I will also need a silver wand, found on a silvered guard in the temple of Cazic-Thule. This wand will not be enchanted - you will need to pay Esmirella of the North Karana gypsy camp 50 gold to enchant it for you. When the wand is fully enchanted, bring it and the pouch to me and I will give you the incandescent wand.'

He needs a Pouch of Silver Dust from the Dusty Werebat in the Estate of Unrest.

He also needs a Silver Wand from the Silvered Guard in Cazic Thule, but asks that you get the wand enchanted before you bring it to him.

Both of the components for this quest are no drop.

Once you find the Silver Wand, take it to Ezmirella in the gypsy camp in North Karana. Hand her the Silver Wand and 50 gold coins. She will return a Blessed Silver Wand and instruct you to seek out Raine Beteria in the Erudin Library.

Ezmirella is at the Gypsy Camp in the north-central part of the zone. Her location is n610, n130.

You say, "Hail, Ezmirella'

Ezmirella says, 'Welcome. I am Ezmirella.'

She does not appear to respond to further dialogue, but hand her the Silver Wand (as dropped by the Silvered Guards) and either 50 gold pieces or 5 platinum, and she will return the Blessed Silver Wand and return the follow dialogue:

Ezmirella says, 'I have blessed your silver wand. To complete the enchantment, you must take the wand to Raine Beteria in the Erudin library. Tip her 50 golden coins, and she will help you.'

You gain party experience.

When you visit Raine Beteria in Erudin:

Raine Beteria is in the Erudin Library (not in the Palace) on the 2nd floor. She is an Enchanter Spell Vendor so you can locate her with /find. Her location is n1050, n210, p65.

Hand Raine the wand and 50 gold coins to receive the Glowing Silver Wand.

When done at apprehensive:

You say, 'Hail, Raine Beteria'

Raine Beltria says, 'You are lucky to be standing. Leave here immediately or suffer grave consequences! You are not welcome amongst the Craftkeepers.'

If you try to hand in the wand and coins at this point, she will return this message:

Raine Beteria says, 'You are most welcome to the circle of the Craftkeepers, but I require more service before we can discuss such things.'

You cannot cast Belevolence (or other alliance spells) on her, however switching to Illusion: Erudite will dramatically improve your standing.

When done at amiable:

You say, 'Hail, Raine Beteria'

Raine Beteria says, 'Welcome. I am Raine Beteria.'

She does not appear to respond to other dialogue, however if you give her the Blessed Silver Wand and either 50 gold or 5 platinum then she will return a Glowing Silver Wand and the following dialogue:

Raine Beteria says, 'Your silver wand has been fully enchanted. Take it and the pouch of silver dust back to the temple of Ro.'
Your faction standing with Erudin Citizens has been adjusted by 5.

You gain experience!

Take the Enchanted Silver Wand and Pouch of Silver Dust back to Sultin. Hand him both and he will give you the Incandescent Wand.

Sultin says, 'I see that you are resourceful... you have earned your incandescent wand.'

Your faction standing with Temple of Solusek Ro has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with Shadowed Men has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience.

And the final turn in text:
Sultin says, 'I see that you are resourceful... you have earned your incandescent wand.'
Your faction standing with Temple of Solusek Ro has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with Shadowed Men has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience.

Just to clarify:
At no point did this quest give any of these factions:
High Council of Erudin +?
High Guard of Erudin +?
Merchants of Erudin +?

Just the Erudin City faction as mentioned in my first post.

Finally, here are links to the intermediate quest pieces which aren't currently listed as being associated with this quest:

So just did this quest and when I did the turn-ins to enchant my wands they handed the money back to me. Wouldn't be surprised the quest never required money just the text asked for it.

It's just that someone before you gave the person the money without giving the wand, so when you gave both the wand and the money it didn't need the money and gave it back to you.

Incorrect I did this with a group of 3 we all were on the same step and as we handed in the wands with 50 gold we all got our gold back 1 after the other from both the NPCs. The 50 gold is not needed anymore.

But i noticed it drops in Feerot off of a different named.

Did it change with CT revamp?

Missing Step?
# May 14 2006 at 8:18 AM Rating: Decent
Is there is missing step in the Quest info?

I read to do everything, but am confused a bit when it says after you turn-in your wand at Erudin you get a "Glowing Silver Wand"

Next it says take "Enchanted Silver Wand" back to Sultin with the Pouch for final turn-in?

Where did you change it from Glowing to Enchanted or did I just miss somethng?

There isn't another step. The quest itself has you taking the wand to the 2 NPC's as listed, but the final version you turn in is the Glowing Silver Wand, along with the Pouch of Silver Dust. This will get you your Incandescent Wand. It's been a long time since I had done this quest, but I used this very write-up for my guide. It could be worded better.

Anyone know whether the silvered guards are still around considering the recent changes to Cazic? I'd love to do the quest but am unsure where to start looking for the silvered wand now that that zone is different.

negative 250 / positive 500 at north end of Tae Ew island at the Obilisk. It is a place holder for the Revenant
RE: Changes in Cazic?
# May 02 2002 at 11:04 PM Rating: Decent
The Silvered Guard is no longer in Cazic. There is a Silvered Tae Ew observer lurking around an obelisk at the northernmost point on the Island in the ferott. I was given one of these at lvl 3 by a chanter wandering through FP, and used it till 33 or so, when i passed it on to another new enchanter. Its a rather decent melee weapon for being a caster, and the fact that its a major lightsource is a big help to erudites. It didn't help me much being a Dark elf, but I could see it being handy. I think I'll go do the quest and get another one, just to carry around although I have the Moggok/Crude Stien combo like most Enchanters nowadays. I miss my wand =\

The right-click PB-stun is also nice. I assume it's still unlimited?

EDIT: Didn't even notice that it was a combat proc, silly me! That makes this useful in AE groups, whether you're pulling Fungus Grove mobs or PLing random newbie wizards for the heck of it :)

Getting the Wand
# Aug 16 2001 at 12:49 PM Rating: Default
Hi there I just completed the quest for all the Incandescents. I am a 23rd level Enchanter. What the key to getting all this stuff is simple, be friendly, helpful, patient and remember a large portion of these items for the Set are no drop, hence worthless to all except those on the quest. So you can come along and loot the majority of the time just for making sure the attack party is well buffed, and breezed by you as enchanters, we can generally go anywhere (invis and such). Just be cautious and I cannot stress enough be helpful to the combat teams. It took me a week to compelete the entire Incandescent Quests. Probably pretty slow to some, but I didnt die once and I made 24th when I handed in all the stuff at once for the various items, mask, wand, gloves.

3rd Addendum: Sorry hehe
But these are the MOBS I personally tangled with

Entyi (sic) in Mistmore Calmed the Gargoyles and drew her to the lower level, where me and the pet dealt with her.
She Conned Blue to me.

Radiant, in CT: Combat team supported by me drew out a train of them from the maze, I charmed Radiant and when it wore off nailed him.

Silvered Guards:Location: CT . this was a toughie, I was out of my league and I knew it. But the upswing was the Avatar was in the Pyramid beyond. What does that mean? It's a lure for high levels. I decided to wait. Sure enough, after an hour or so a high level group came storming through, happy to have a low level enchanter casting breeze and quick on them in exchange for loot privilages. It took two cycles of them going through all the way to the Avatar (that sight will chill the blood of any low level) to get the Slivered Wand.

Dusty Werebat: Unrest. Went there for the pouch invis to Undead and down to the Basement. Calm on any near by creatures. And Drew the Werebat into the hall and close combated it(Yellow to me) with pet, spells and whacking away.

As for all the rest all gotten from NPC's so no problem there. Oh be careful in Lavastorm the gypsy at the Druid ring is NOT the right one I kept giving her 5 Plat to get one of the item components and was getting nothing back. Was getting broke when a passerby pointed out that it was the wrong one I was giving the money to. Showed me where the right gypsy was. DOh! lost 25plat in the process ack!

So there you have it, an Enchanters Odessey or "Or how to get your Incandescent Set and not lose your mind, too much"

As an addendum: Get good intelligence of where you are going. Be familar BEFOREHAND of the area/dungeon. Don't wander about. Know the stats of your target and ready a strategy before going in guns blazing. Read everything about the place and have a map in hand. Remember if you are an Enchanter your pretty much cannon fodder in meelee situations, use your wits. If it means getting a helper cool. Stick around and repay them with breezes for an afternoon. Whatever works the goal is to get your Incandescent Set. We are as a class forced to rely on others for most combat but we have the most useful spells as an overall class, short of the TP and SOW singular spells.

The set make an incredible difference for charming now. I am currently in Lake Rathe Soloing (a 1st in a long time).
Anyway that my two cents.

How to get the Silver Wand
# Aug 13 2001 at 1:35 AM Rating: Good
Okay I just finished getting this wand today, so here goes. Don't even think about trying to get the wand by yourself in your 20's, and probably not even in your 30's. There are tons of other Lizards around the Silvered Guards and they all aggro as soon as you try to pull a Silvered. I also quickly discovered that it's not wise to try to pull the Silvered Guards into the hallway. You end up getting aggroed by everything in Front of you, and usually a few wandering Wardens. If you try to run, you run into a room full of Lizard Defenders. Our initial group consisted of a mid 20 Chanter, Bard, SK and low 30 Chanter and Mage and we all got creamed in the hallway.

Best bet is to get a group of 5 or 6 lvl 20-30's. Cast See Invis and invis and run to hallway just before Silvered Guards. Make sure invis is still up on everyone and run past guards to take up positions on the left/west wall across from the pyramid (close to the tripod with cauldron in it). Wait until no lizzies are around to aggro, and then buff and summon pets. When everyone is ready clear/pull the few wandering lizards (wardens etc) first. You should be able to do this without aggroing Silvered Guards and the other baddies that hang out beside them (Fanatic, Page and sometimes another). You can then quickly remed if necessary, and try to pull one of the Silvered Guards. It's likely you'll pull 2 Silvered and 2-3 friends (Hope you have a chanter to mezz).

You'll know if the Silvered Guard has the wand, since you will see it in his hand. Depending on how strong your group is, you may want to have everyone focus on whichever Guard is carrying the wand. That way you stand a good chance of snatching the wand even if the fight starts to go bad. Our group managed to get 3 wands for 3 chanters in just over an hour. We also picked up a Shaman Quest item "Ogreskin Chamois" from the Lizard Page. Hope this helps.

RE: silvered guards?
# Aug 06 2001 at 12:44 AM Rating: Default
Silvered Guards are in the back temple. When you enter the courtyard go straight ahead past the tents, off to the leftish is a set of double doors. Go through them and then take the door on the right. Follow the hallway, it will turn into a chasm, widen in an area with low 20 mobs, narrow and come out with Silvered Guards right in front of you. Two spawn there, but there are two other mobs by the entrance and 3-5 mobs wandering around. Not sure of their level, but it is similar to the Silvered Guard. Oh, and I believe they have rather high svm.

Hi all ... Here's the deal. I went to Unrest fer this wonderful item and killed at least 70 of these Werebat dudes with my 38 Chanter and 43 War over the last 2 days. Hell I wasted everything in the Basement (typical spawn area). Needless to say there was lotsa Wings (no drop for Necro Cloak quest) but Negative on the dust. Save yer time, wait till they announce this is dealt with. Well unless yer into killing all the stuff fer other reasons. :(> I talked to a Guide and after some time he came back and confirmed it's bugged... FYI Folks ..

Color shift proc
# Nov 12 2000 at 8:42 PM Rating: Default
Seems the proc on this weapon may be more trouble than it's worth. Haven't hit high enough level to see it yet (procs at 20 I have heard) but can't you see it going off at the wrong time? Say when you are fighting one mob in range of another mob or NPC you have mezzed? When enchies cast color shift we (presumably) do it at a safe moment without intent of aggro'ing additional critters. Since the proc on weapons is unpredictable, I'll bet the AE proc on this wand kills me at some point...
Anyone found this to be true?
RE: Color shift proc
# May 04 2001 at 3:31 PM Rating: Default
The range on Color Shift is so limited that whenever I cast it I have to be nearly standing on the mob. I don't think aggroing other mobs is much of a concern in most cases considering the range is so small.
So don't use it all the time
# Feb 22 2001 at 10:42 AM Rating: Default
The subject says it all. Any melee character could tell you that not all procs are made for all situations. This is the same concept - you equip this weapon when you know the proc won't be harmful, and you use something else when the proc would be bad.

# Oct 30 2000 at 5:56 PM Rating: Default
The *components* (silver wand, silver dust) are no-drop, but the resulting wand isn't. So "Cutey" probably wants to buy the wand. I personally don't see much point to the wand, other than a little AC and Color Shift, you have to sacrifice the usual dual-stein approach to use this and I personally wouldn't want to give up *either* the 10 int from Moggok OR the 15 Cha from Crude just to be able to whack on things. Besides, I only ever used piercing with my enchanter, from the newbie dagger to a GSF to a Dragoon Dirk, my 1hb skill is zero. Maybe if this could fit in the range slot or something it'd be worth it, but... *shrug*

Being able to Color Shift without mana seems like a useful tool. I wonder what the cast, recast timings on this wand are, and if that can be used to overlap with our casted Colors as well?
Raine's Faction
# Sep 17 2000 at 9:05 PM Rating: Default
She is actually ErudinMerchant. You can raise this faction by going to West Freeport and locating Jyle Windshot (in the Hogcaller's Inn). Give him small lanterns to get wood shards (if your faction isn't high enough, make a mule, they're not no drop). Go to the Tox forest, and give the shards to Emil Parsini. You will get this faction change:
+MerchantsofErudin, +HighCouncilofErudin, +HighGuardofErudin
Took about 100 wood shards to go from apprehensive to amiable.
RE: Raine's Faction
# Jun 25 2001 at 11:13 PM Rating: Default
She is DEFINATELY NOT Merchants of Erudin faction. I tried to do this quest with my Erudite necro for a newbie enchanter I created. I got about 200 of the wood shards from turning in lanterns to the guy in West Freeport, and turned them into the merchant in Tox. My faction with the Merchants of Erudin went from dubious to kindly. However, my faction with Raine was still DUBIOUS. Some of the other merchants in the Library conned "kindly", and others were still dubious.
A useless fact, that just might help you all...
# Sep 20 2000 at 9:05 PM Rating: Default
The npc in question about faction is actually male, because I know a lot of people who will read what is posted and look for an erudite female in HH, instead of writing down names and cross-referencing things and such!

I told ya it was useless, yet may help =)

Raine is the one who sells enchanter's illuson spells in the library of Erudin. And yes, she's a female.

Raine Beteria
# Aug 25 2000 at 12:03 PM Rating: Decent
Anybody know what Faction Raine Beteria is attached to? I tried to do this quest as a magician. I had everything else done, went to Ezmirella, then went to Erudin. My faction with *most* of Erudin is very high, but not with her. I even turned in 2 stacks bloodstones in highpass to raise faction with beta-neutral. Still not good enough faction, but I turned it in anyway since I had run out of ideas. I guess you must be Enchanter and have alliance to make it work.
RE: Raine Beteria

Well I belive she is of the craftkeepers. You can raise this by killing the necro near the dock that heads over to Kerra island in Tox forrest or killing the heritics in Kerra island.

Kill the necro. Loot the "Bones" and SAVE THEM.
Get a stack of them, then go back to Erudin. Go to the Magicians guild, top floor, hand the "Bones" one or four at a time (1 in each slot works, not sure if you can do 4 stacks of 4) to the Mage guildmaster - Markus Jaevins or something like that is his name.

Each "Bones" turned in will raise faction with several caster groups in Erudin. Just doing this quest a few times, my druid went from Dubious to Amiable (those bones raise faction fast) with Raine Beteria. (Raine used to call me scum and send me away)
