This solo task begins with any one of the "a fear beorthor" (click for map image) mobs found in the Heart of Fear: The Threshold (first level). Map locations of these NPCs (for your "heartoffear.txt" map file): P -537.8011, 2550.8025, -36.4176, 0, 0, 0, 1, a_fear_beorthor P -2146.8486, 983.0232, 32.5888, 0, 0, 0, 1, a_fear_beorthor P -552.8302, -1316.7843, -0.3268, 0, 0, 0, 1, a_fear_beorthor P 1325.7717, 497.5431, 1.3307, 0, 0, 0, 1, a_fear_beorthor P 771.0031, 1955.5959, 1.7991, 0, 0, 0, 1, a_fear_beorthor Pre-Requisites: - Level 85 - No other tasks To start the task, you can either hail the fear beorthor, or attack it. Doing so will cause you to become temporarily blinded and will spawn a mob called "Unknown" which auto-aggros on you. You say, 'Hail, a Fear beorthor' a Fear beorthor's voice enters directly into your mind, 'What is it you fear most? Although many think they know their own fears, there's always something they have yet to discover. A terror so dreaded, you dare not even realize it. Everyone keeps this buried inside, to prevent the fear from consuming them. Now I give that fear flesh, that it may devour you and grow strong!' You have been assigned the task 'Facing Your Fear'. Slay creatures in the heart of fear to gain insight to gain insight into the nature of your unknown fear. Then confront your fear with its true identity! Confront your unknown fear with its true identity 0/1 (Heart of Fear: The Threshold) Kill mobs until you can figure out (through emotes) what your fear is. You'll need to /say your answer to the mob "Unknown". It will be a fly, evil eye, othmir, wurm, raven, halfling, or shissar. Ran around killing and killing watching for a dern emote. Finally read the comments about it being in Say. Killed a mob and didn't see anything, but decided to try it anyway and it worked. I am sure I had already gotten multiple says. Husband did it with his character and only had to kill a few mobs. He got his after the "true terror" comment. First 'say' from unknown, none of the words worked. 2nd say, he got it. So watch say and kill mobs around you and try after every 'say' comment from the unknown.
hail a fear beorthor and your unknown will spawn. They will continue to beat you while you walk around. They walk and if you outwalk them they will stand where they lost you at. make them follow you to where a spider is and it will say "I don't want to be eaten" and at that point, you can say all the keywords to him until they change into that keyword. At which point you can just kill it. If you attack the beorthor, just stop attacking and back away he wont come after you. You can't kill him. Someone said there was a beorthor that had a lot of spiders near by, I would find that one and do the quest there. If there are multiple people in groups, only one spider will change one unknown at a time.

Further to the re-jig in the last patch (?) you also receive a Fragment of Alaran History used to evolve the Alaran Tear on completion of this task.

Did this task five-boxing 105s paladin, enchanter, druid, shaman, ranger. Very irritating until, using clues from previous posts, I came up with this method.
Did task first on tank. Found quest mob at location -2553, 533, -33 (southern portion of map). South of this mob, towards the blue circle, is an area with spiders. Head there and kill spiders until the Unknown says he doesn't want to be eaten. Then /say all the words (fly, evil eye, wurm, raven, shissar, halfling, othmir) until you get the Unknown to morph.
I tried killing other mobs, but I only needed to kill spiders until the Unknown emoted. The tank ranger kept aggro from the Unknown - otherwise, the Unknown kept bashing the merc cleric, draining her mana. Here were my results:
Half-elf ranger - halfling
Barbarian shaman - wurm
Wood elf druid - shissar
Erudite enchanter - shissar
Dwarf paladin - othmir
Good hunting!

Just bringing back up the point. The person with the quest must pull each mob with damage for it to work. Do that and it updates in 3-5 kills.

This task is ridiculous with no logic but simple.
Simply done that:
1) Tash/Slow/Debuff "unknown"
2) Tank Merc gets aggro then make him passive (so you can travel around if necessary)
3) Now you can use Invis/Invu to get to mobs (take emote mobs)
4) Pull them with damage (simple dot/Nuke was ok)
5) kill them until unknown says "No! Keep it back. I don't want to be eaten" (or something like that)
and stay in a range of the quest giver where you get the emotes and "unknown" is present
AND the "unknown" must be present (that thing is ultra slow so be careful he is beating you while
you pull or beating the merc who should be close to you)
6) Simply test all words, it seems every creature is related to some mob
7) if the right one is called you face a really weak and slowed/debuffed red con mob which is easy to kill
So far got the following:
Druid, Woodelf: Raven -> cubes -> Fear of Raven
Enchanter, Erudite: Wurm -> spider -> Fear of Wurms
Warrior, Ogre: Shissar -> spider -> Fear of Shissars
Beastlord, Va-Shir: Wurm -> spider -> Fear of Wurms
emotes:
- Frightfingers
- Toads
- Phoboplasms (Cubes)
- Bloody Raven
- Samhain
- Spiders
no emotes:
- Wraiths
- Believers
- a newly formed phoboplasm (from crystals)
- an enrageed harbinger
- shiverbacks
some notes:
- no emotes also outside a specific range of the quest giver. >Unknown< even disappears from "aggro" if you go too far away from the quest giver.
Beastlord didnt find the right mob. Dropped the quest and begun from scratch. So did the quest now 5 times in a row. Once without finding the right mob, the others are always the same: kill all emote mobs while >unknown< is around and wait on the right sentence then check all words and kill the guy. Works like a charm.
Logic behind that? Sorry no. I don't see anything connected between fears, mobs, races, classes... but got my achievement - done.

Just say the words once you get the emote. do not add "fear of' to the front of it.
I said fear of shisshar to it and nothing happened. I said shisshar and it worked. As the write up reads, its one of these:
"It will be a fly, evil eye, othmir, wurm, raven, halfling, or shissar."

the emote for this is filtered under 'Say' so may wanna set up a separate chat box and filter chat to say so you dont end up missing it 20 times like I did

To get update, the person who has the quest and is doing the guessing must be the person pulling with some amount of damage.
If not you'll never get a chance to guess. I never saw an emote, just some text in the chat screen "You've not yet begun to know my true terror but I will teach you if you come closer" once the globe says that a couple times it will eventually respond to you guessing, and will respond to the wrong choices.

This is what the "unknown" mob turned into when I correctly guessed othmir.

once you get the "don't let it eat me" you are free to talk to the Unknown and "guess" what your fear is. It will laugh and get "Harder" when you guess wrong. I just kept guessing until I got it right at which point the "unknown' mob turned into "fear of ____" in my case "fear of othmir" and died pretty easily. I'd say easier than trash mob even though it was a red con after 2 bad guesses.
I haven't finished it, yet ... so ... take these for what it's worth:
When you have the "unknown" mob chasing you around, it will emote after you kill a mob whether it will teach you when you get closer (paraphrase) or (the only other emote I've seen) , it is scared and wants you to get the mob away from it before it eats "unknown".
I got no responses when I killed alarans (kinda makes sense), glarelords, hobgoblins, phoboplasms. I got responses from creepers (spiders), turmoil toads and visages (the birds).
So far, this task is more than annoying.

Similar to some of the Eastern waste and Crystal caverns tasks the one pulling will get the emotes. Took 2-3 emotes once we switched to other group members than task worked perfect.
I tried same keyword repeatedly, but answer may vary in random in followings:

Unknown says 'I didin't know Slime could speak common. Go back to the sewer before I lose my temper.'
Unknown says 'Is that your BREATH, or did something die in here? Now go away!'
Unknown says 'I wonder how much I could get for the tongue of a blithering fool? Leave before I decide to find out for myself.'

anyone elase having issue getting update on this I got the emote after 10 times wife has killed over 200 mobs no update
