Dugroz may be found at -250, -1800 in the Swamp of No Hope.

You say, 'Hail, Dugroz'

Dugroz says 'Fffrroaaak!! Go away! I don't want to [work for them] anymore! Go find another slave!'

You say, 'What work for them?'

Dugroz looks relieved and eyes you, considering. Finally, he begins to recant his tale. 'I was once the slave of an important Iksar necromancer. I was his Dugroz, his head slave. One night, I heard two other slaves talking about me. I could barely hear them but what I did hear frightened me. My master was going to use me one last time. He was going to sacrifice me to craft a spell component for one of his most powerful spells. Hearing this, I used my privileges as his head slave and made my [escape].'

You say, 'How did you escape?'

Dugroz says 'As the head slave, I was allowed to move freely throughout my master's compound. I came across one of the slavemasters asleep in his chair and carefully relieved him of his [keys]. Then, quietly, I made my escape.'

You say, 'What keys?'

Dugroz says 'After I escaped, I lost myself in the depths of the swamp. I discarded all the keys but one. I will gladly give it to you if you can do me a [small favor].'

You say, 'What small favor?'

Dugroz blinks his eyes and leans forward. He whispers so quietly you must strain to hear him, 'I have taken up the same magics as my master. I require two components to complete a spell I have been researching for quite some time. The first is a vampire's fang. I have heard tales of a vampire who haunts the ruins of Kaesora. I also need a jade weapon stained by the blood of a chokidai. Look in the Lake of Ill Omen at the sarnak outpost. The leader used to herd chokidai, or so I am told.'

The "vampire's fang" is a Xalgozian Fang, dropped by Xalgoz in the depths of Kaesora. The "jade weapon stained by the blood of a chokidai" is a Jade Chokidai Prod, dropped by the Chancellor of Di`Zok at the back of the Sarnak fort, by the Lake of Ill Omen. Give these two items to Dugroz.

Dugroz says 'My thanks to you, ______, take this key, I know not what door it opens. Now if I can just find that necklace of power that I took from my master's lair!'

You gain experience!!

You receive the Key to Charasis. Once you zone into Charasis (a.k.a. the Howling Stones), it will go on your keyring.

More information needed on the "necklace of power."

Dugroz Spawn Change
# May 08 2002 at 7:30 PM Rating: Decent
After the server patch today I went to Dugroz in the Swamp of No Hope to multiquest the Key with a guildmate. When we got there Dugroz was gone and all the frogloks that used to spawn around him were gone and all these spawn points were populated with black revengers that con'd yellow to a 54 Druid. They are tightly packed just like the frogs used to be, so I did not even dare to drop camo in that circumstance.

It looks like this part of the quest has been made significantly more difficult.

Does anyone have any information on how to spawn Dugroz or if that part of the quest even works the same anymore?

I teamed with a druid buddy for the quest, first stop the Chancellor. We invised and walked into the big room the chancellor is in, in the sarnak fort in LoIO, and went to the far left corner of the room, to the chancellor's immediate right hand side. I stun pulled him, killed him while keeping aggro of 2 adds on me, droo evac'd us out when I looted Prod. Quick and clean, no wasting time killing unneccesary mobs, or clearing room.

Then on to Kesora... killed our way down to the church, killed a PH'r. About 30 min later Xalgoz popped and killed him. He dropped 2 fangs (so extra one :=) and neclace. Ported out to DL.

Ran to Swamp from DL, followed river up toward zoneline for Trak. Soon after you enter cave/tunnel IN SWAMP zone that leads to Trak, there is a tunnel on the right hand side that is elevated just a bit. Entered this tunnel, followed wall to LEFT, killed a couple froggy knights, and found Dugroz, he con'd indiff. Handed him fang and prod, got key.

Both Chancellor and Xygoz are soloable by a 51 DE SK w/out pet. I know, did it just tonight =) Howling Stones, here I come!
Necro for camps
# Apr 04 2002 at 1:22 PM Rating: Default
The chancellor is awfully easy for a lvl 49+ necro: let pet clear all the room so only chancellor remains, mez chancellor (ST) so pet comes, let your pet kill the doggie, then send your pet on him, land 1 or 2 insidious retrogression and you're done, this guy is a joke

I didn't do Xalgoz alone, cause was afraid of adds, but i discovered that our lvl 39 slow spell (you should cast on every mob you get in the church) has absolutely no AE aggro: even if 2 mobs nearly touch one another, cast slow on the 1st one you won't aggro the 2nd one, so i think camping Xalgoz becomes far easier.
Xa sad he dropped a fang and a sword (was with a friend who needed fang too)

easy camp for 2 necros, easy too for 1 necro 1 rogue 1 cleric
i think it's also trivial camp for a paladin+necro

The chancellor is definitely a wuss, I took him down np as a 51 druid, i guess he has about 2.5k hps maybe a bit more, tried to do the 2nd part of the quest but got VERY lost in kaesora, i guess next time i'll take someone who knows the way :)

I'll have to agree lol , the chancellor is very pathetic. He popped right on top of me, so it was just him and no pet. Finished him with pet at half health and I think I only cast two spells haha. Think I did Asytole, let him get down a little, then ignite bones. Love being a necro heh, this camp wasnt too bad either as I think I'm not kos to one of the cabilis factions anymore.

HA and Skizz you didnt think I could solo him =P

Okies, got the pieces today. I haven't yet turned them in, since I had to log, but it was really quite easy. On a whim I went to LoIO and played around training stuff on the WM (I took care of the trains and no one died--I'm not that heartless), and then decided to go wander around in the snark fort (Really? That's not how it's spelled? Ya don't say!).
I came upon the Chancellor, who was blue, and remembered people talking about his prod being for the HS key. He was a real joke. As a 52 warrior (with Fungi, Frosty/LSoEE, and over 1050ac) I dropped him with a loss of 300 or 400hp... but no matter what kind of gear, he shoudl be no problem. The Advisor guy next to him, who had the Iron Bound Tome, was tougher--the damage shield hurt, and a couple of nukes for up to 160--even though he was green. I think I was pretty lucky to find him already up, since from what I understand he is about a 3-hour spawn.
Anyway, that done, I went on to the FoB to PL a friend a bit (ok, so my fungi did the PLing, i just sat down and killed adds). A guildmate asked what I was up to in the Field of Bone, and if I was doing the HS key in Kaesora. Genius that I am, I said something to the effect of, "huh?" Then I remembered about Xalgoz. I had to wait around for a good hour and a half or two hours before a guildmate logged on who A) didn't have his key yet and B) wanted to go get it. He got a map off of eqatlas.com and we went down in (neither of us knew the way... you just hafta be patient when reading the map and you'll find it eventually). A 52 warrior and a 56 ranger were able to clean the place up no problem. At one point we did have four skeletal warders (which heal) on us, and they took a little time to run out of mana. We were both between 60 and 70% health by the time we took them down, but that was the worst it got. We found the church place where Xalgoz pops (recongnizable by the number of Guardians of Xalgoz and whatnot) and just hung out for a while. I went AFK for a bit, and his PH popped while i was gone, but we were estimating that he's on a 20 to 25 minute cycle. He popped while we were in the middle of killing three other mobs, but posed no problem. It was maybe 30 seconds to kill him (blue at 52, lblue at 56. No other mobs we found were blue to me, although there were several light blues). It took 2 or 3 minutes to fight our way out, and we were done.
For the Chancellor... I suspect that just about anyone could solo him at 49, although perhaps clerics and chanters would need the assistance of someone else (this isn't an insult, I just understand that they're not very good at soloing. No flames, broiled Llamas are bad...). I was in and out in under half an hour, and that was with killing everything in sight and not knowing the way. Probably could have made it in under 10 minutes had i known where I was going. Kaesora I'm guessing you could do with a group of people in their 40s, a few high 40s, or two 50+ if they're compatible. I probably could have done it by myself with fairly little risk if I had just used a bow to pull. Nearly everything was green con, with the occasional light blue, and Fungi Tunic makes downtime negligible. I'm sure some of you casters out there could do it more easily, even without invising.
All in all, this is quite an easy quest, but can take a while waiting for Xalgoz and the Chancellor to spawn. As I understand it, Xalgoz sometimes drops as many as 4 fangs, but we got two... just right. If you get a tank and a healer together, both around 50 or above, you can probably kill the chancellor, go to kaesora and get your fangs, and get back with an hour or more to spare before the chancellor pops again. Get the second prod, and you both go turn em in. Good stuff. Have fun, as I've heard Charasis is arguably the best exp in the game.

What i did was got a 60 warrior and (me a 52 cleric) and we ITU'd down to where the xalgoz spawns and we just killed everything in the entire area until he spawned he seems to be totally random we had 3 phes before he spawned, died then dropped 2 fangs .. the way back up is a little more tricky but isnt all that hard :) Also if you are really good you can pick up your VP key item in the library on the way down like my war friend did :) the VP piece spawns what seems to be very slow tho i couldnt get mine after 3 hours of trying to kill Xalgoz. The prod isnt all that hard just go to EC and let people sell you one that they dont need for 150pp .. if you are going to go to HS then there is no way you cant make that in an hour :)

Just my -2 cents on how you can do it :) make sure u have a cleric these things nuke hard in kaesora :) Good Luck you all on yer quest :)

I'm a 52 Necro and I made my way down to where Xalgoz spawns (the hard part is not getting lost). With improved invis vs undead I ran up to him, targeted him, went to the base of the ramp, summoned pet, cast banish undead, Xalgoz came running.. wiped him out easy - solo pull. :)

Well, I was most displeased to find this guy scowling ready to attack to my iksar necro after having gotten the two key components. However, I was amazed to find that casting call of bones (illusion skeleton) made him con indifferent and allowed me to complete the quest! Since his MR is so high I imagine that you can't charm him to do the quest, so skele form or wolf form are probably the only ways unless he happens to already like you.

His location is 419, -4029. Find the cave with the river going into it that leads to trakannon's teeth and follow the right wall. There's a small tunnel leading into the rock there and Dugroz is inside. He's guarded by two other frogs which con ready to attack in skele form, but they're only level 20ish so easy to clear.

Here's what Dugroz says:
Fffrroaaak!! Go away! I don't want to [work for them] anymore! Go find another slave!

"Why won't you work for them?"

"How did you escape?"

As the head slave, I was allowed to move freely throughout my master's compound. I came across one of hte slavemasters asleep in his chair and carefully relieved him of his [keys]. Then, quietly, I made my escape.

"What keys?"

After I escaped, I lost myself in the depths of the swamp. I discarded all the keys but one. I will gladly give it to you if you can do me a [small favor].

"What small favor?"

I went down to Xalgoz with my guild. At first we had a 51 druid, a 54 pally a 45 monk a 42 rogue and me 48 Ranger. We were holding the whole camp and just taking spawns as they come right from the church and silo next to it, no prob. Then we had some bad timing and had about 8 end up on us and they wiped us out. So a guildmate 60 cleric with click stick came down and rezed us, then pulled the church one by one. We had already gotten one fang. Took about an hour and half to get 6 more. Also while down there: Dusty Ransackers packs droped like mad. 25% weight reduction 8 slot. The monk was happy - but it was lore - and we all got one and let 4 or so rot. 4 Tombcarvers droped. One nice sheild with some ac and int I think called spectral sheild or something shd nec only. Xalgoz dropped one Blade of Xalgoz. No necro staff ; ( oh well hehe. Over all with dying and rezes and waiting for a port out - about 4 hours and we got 8 fangs.

Next - Jade prod. Was camped and by then everyone but me and the monk had split. So we waited and helped out the Shammy, they got their prod. Then we just kept the room cleared for an hour and 45 minutes about. One PH spawned about 30 minutes in. Droped the tomb, we gave it to the druid who was caping with us. Then the druid split and we still kept the room cleared. There was a patch scheduled, and just as we were invising up to run out - they canceled it. Two minutes later chancellor spawned and droped the prod. Me and the monk had to call in a cleric who was PLing a friend or he would have killed us. But it was a close fight without the cleric, we almost would have made it. Then it was 4 am and we went to bed.

The End! hehe

Moral is : Xalgoz easy, Chacellor looong.

My chancellor story... Invised into room, went to corner, pulled him with Dooming Darkness, began to melee, burned Harm Touch, realized I was going to die, tried to start a fear kite, aggroed 7 adds, dropped to 1 bub of health (about 400hps) and only had him at about 25%, retreated to corner I pulled from, FD'd, Chancellor did not return to spawn point and rather stood on top of my feigning body, sent tell to cleric friend to come help quick, waited 45 minutes while FD for cleric to show up, waited 20 minutes more for cleric to get invis, cleric came in and C-healed me, stood up and whacked the bish with the cleric's help now, paid the cleric 150pp for services and had a guildie druid evac us out to DL.

Total time taken: about an hour and a half
Not the most efficient way to get a JCP, but hey, I got it.

# Nov 29 2001 at 9:44 AM Rating: Decent
Fun post here :

Camped The Chancellor last night, solo bard 55. Spent hours putzing around clearing the front of the room, including The Advisor who dropped the Iron Bound Tome. Then finally the big guy popped & the real fun began.

I'd tried a couple of times before. I'm a lousy solo meleer & had no luck with both schemes, so this time I tried using one of those Root Nets (not the right name) from VL to root him while I killed his pet over in the corner. I figured then to take him solo using one technique or another, but...

...got him rooted, was whacking on the pet, & bang, not LD but a hard EQ CRASH, game vanished instantly & yep, when I came back, it was nekkid in FV...

...so I got a couple of guildies to come rez me & help me kill him, which of course made it easy & now I have the prod.

I gotta admit, it was kinda fun trying to figure out how to solo him, even though I never did get it to work. Guess I'm just a groupie kind of guy. :) Ah well...

Guys this is easy. I got the proc easy I just got a group and killed everything that was coming on me and I kept healing the party (Cleric 56 here) so they were happy to pl them. When cancelor pop killed him easy 3 nukes. As for the fang i Invis with my invis mask from guardian in Seb and when i got to undead i used my improved invisibility vs undead. I moved all the way down and start pulling them 1 by 1. Easy to single pull (pull only the one outside xalgoz camp and then the one in the camp. Xalgoz is 30 min spawn and he is consisten 1 up and 1 PH. Will drop 2 fangs unless drops the sword or something else then you will get 1 fang and 1 drop. It was harder for me since i was cleric but my undead nukes rock. Tip do not camp xalgoz and sit on the spawn area might agro the one under the xalgoz camp.

Now need to hand over the items :)

Go inside and the vere to the left at the Y in the cave and you will find him at the back of the cave. (This isn't that far in.) Kill the other froggys there and leave his pet alone, hail him and it should work. Once I killed the other frog, I went from Dubious to indifferent.

I spent a long time trying to figure out how to get Dugroz to give you info on the quest... these are the 4 things you ask him in this order:

What about work for them?
How did you escape?
What keys?
What small favor?

this is how you get him to talk about needing the fang and the prod...

Im a 59sk and cleaned his lair all alone. I do recommend to be alittle more people if you want to play it safe though. Problems i had was:

1. Spiders, they see through invis so start working your way down.

2. Pet pathings is bad, he can easily run off and get you a nice train. Keep him on a leech if you have one.

3. Wall aggros, so keep away especially near xalgoz chamber.

4. Xalgoz gates if you pull him too far, so keep him stunned or bash.

I did this last night.
Xalgoz dropped 2 fangs every time, on a 30 minute timer.
I did NOT clear the room with Dugroz. (I'm a half elf bard, by the way).
I didn't talk to him, or anything. Just went up while singing invis song, gave him the pieces, and I got the key.
By the way, Iksar form is KoS to this guy. In my natural half elf form, I was dubious.

FYI- He doesn't agro if you 86 the room. It's all good.

VI recently claimed that they decreased the bottle neck on this quest. Xalgoz now drops 2 items each time (blad or fang) and is on a 30 min spawn. However the chancellor the true bottleneck of this quest is still a 2 hour spawn and may or may not have the jade prod.

Good News!!
Xalgoz now seems to always have at least one tooth, we camped 11 teeth in about 2-3 hours. Spawn time seemed to be about 20+ minutes. We saw him 6 times, got 1 PHers, out of the 6 times we saw him, he had 1 tooth twice and 2 teeth 4 times! The times he had 1 tooth, he also had the sword. We got more stupid dusty bags than we knew what to do with ;P
Now, if they only turned up the Jade spawn timer. :(
