Marton Sayer may be found in a cottage in Qeynos Hills at around /loc 1400, 300, 9.

You say, 'Hail, Marton Sayer'

Marton Sayer says, 'Welcome. Please stock up on provisions, especially if you are headed toward the lair of the vile gnolls. If so, I wish you much luck and many gnoll pelts! I also have knowledge of a [powerful dog]. I pray you do not encounter him.'

You say, 'What powerful dog?'

Marton Sayer says, 'I have encountered a gnoll who spoke the common tongue. He dared to call himself Lord Elgnub. He swore that some day we would cross paths and he would snatch my infant son Joseph from our home. He would stand no chance against me and the mighty [Gnoll Slayer].'

You say, 'What is Gnoll Slayer?'

Marton Sayer says, 'Gnoll Slayer is the mighty longsword which was passed down unto me through generations of Sayers. My days of battle are over, but I can still wield her with ferocity. The only thing more precious would be my son, Joseph Sayer. I would trade Gnoll Slayer only for him to be safe and sound at home.'

Marton's initial dialogue is slightly different if you speak to him while carrying the baby, after asking about the gnoll slayer you get:

Marton Sayer says, 'Gnoll Slayer is the mighty longsword which was passed down unto me through generations of Sayers. My days of battle are over, but I can still wield her with ferocity. The only thing more precious would be my son, [Joseph Sayer]. I would trade Gnoll Slayer only for him to be safe and sound at home.'

You say, 'Joseph Sayer'

Marton Sayer says, 'You speak of my son, Joseph Sayer. He is but an infant and is safe here with Mira and me... At least, I believe he is.'

Lord Elgnub can occasionally be found wandering around Blackburrow. Kill him and loot Baby Joseph Sayer, which you should bring back to Joseph.

Marton Sayer says, 'Baby Joseph! Look, Momma!! Baby Joseph has been rescued by this good adventurer!! That evil Lord Elgnub made good on his word and snatched my son from under our noses. You saved the day!! For this you shall wield 'Gnoll Slayer'!! Be aware of its [true potential].'

You say, 'What true potential?'

Marton Sayer says, 'The true potential of Gnoll Slayer is an enchantment which was once imbedded into a gnoll's eye which was placed into the hilt of the blade. The spell would help you fight off disease and call forth a wolf to fight beside you. Alas, the gnoll eye was stolen from the blade by a great, one-eyed, white gnoll. Along with the eye, the only book which explained how to return the enchantment was also stolen. I know not where this gnoll might be. If you can find the journal and the eye, return them with the Gnoll Slayer to me, for I have been searching for decades.'

Head to South Karana. Kill a one eyed gnoll (located in the northern part of the zone (/loc?) to loot a Gnoll's Eye. Kill a Lteth Val Scribe to loot a Journal of Greater Enchantment. Give the eye, journal, and intermediate Gnoll Slayer to Marton.

Marton Sayer says, 'The eye and the journal! What a great day! The Gnoll Slayer shall be returned to full strength because of you. Your service to Qeynos will not soon be forgotten.'

It is Working.......
# Apr 07 2001 at 2:45 PM Rating: Decent
The first part of the quest (killing Lord Englnub, getting the baby, giving it back) does work. Its just that Lord Englnub seems to have a worse spawn rate than the AC!! If he is a triggered spawn I have no idea, but I spent most of my time waiting on him clearing the Green room (aka Elete room, High Shaman Room) and killing the Brewer spawns. I got the sword 3 days ago, and for all the time and effort its not that great of a weapon cept for a newbie near BB.

As for the second part of the quest, I have no idea where to start, but think it has to involve Infected Paw in SK. *confusion* Everlore.com has some info on the second part but.... *confusion*

I can Confirm that the first portion of this quest is still active.

I ran into Lord E., down in BB while gathering teeth. After dispatching him I saw the Baby Joseph Sayer in his loot. I went to Sayer and started the conversation, and he ended by saying his child was home safe. Confused as to what to do next, and seeing references saying the quest was closed, I figured, WTF, and gave him the baby.
Sayer then exclaimed "... That evil Lord Eldgnub made good on his word and snatched my son from under our noses..."

So, though Sayer Claims the child is safe, in truth he is wrong, the child had been taken, and he did not know it yet.

Again, this is only as it pertains to the First portion of the Quest, which is that portion which yeilds Gnoll Slayer the 6/28 1HS Lore sword.
So, this quest it no more?

Just curious if anyone knows for sure if this quest is dead or not? Saw a post by someone that said it was and I was wondering if anyone could confirm that? It would be nice to know so I dont spend any useless time on it!!
Thank You

WTF is with that you do all that then find out the quest is crap. i dont know whats with this but verant is getting cheeper with there quest latly. there are to many quest down at once. why do you fix them Verant. it is BS that you have that many people playing your game and you dont even fix quests so people can finish them. how many people do you think tryed to do that quest and didnt get anything in return so they went all the back to the begining cause they think that they messed up. once again they didnt get anything and then they petition. "MR GM i did the gnoll slayer quest and i didnt get the gnoll slayer, is the quest down or something". three hours later the GM replys "oh yes sorry, yes the quest has been down for a while and we havnt been able to get it back up yet". you all think i am nutz dont you. well im not this has happened to me more then once and it makes me so mad. i spent 13 hours getting the gnoll hide tome to give him and poof all my time down the drain cause VERANT didnt fix the quest. if you wish to keep people in the game FIX THE QUESTS AND WEAPON AND ARMOR PROBLEMS WILL YOU.

I have to agree with ya on this one,it is pretty stupid that verant just leaves quests out there. If they really want quests left out they should just kill them before any more players can do it again, sheesh.Wtf is up with making players suffer by doing a quest thats broken and doesent work anymore, when they can just Nerf it and save a dosen player's respects?

Where is Gnoll Hide Tome?
# Mar 02 2001 at 5:59 PM Rating: Decent
Whooohoooo! Finally, days of camping, the Gnoll Slayer is in my hand at last.

This is how I got Lord Elgnub in Blackburrow. I kept killing A High Gnoll Shaman in the Green Room again and again; I forgot how many times I killed this type of gnoll. Until one day, I killed A High Gnoll Shaman who dropped Gnoll Head; this gnoll, who drops the Gnoll Head, is the key, which triggers Lord Elgnub to spawn. After I looted the head and I ran to the Snake Pit, and there he is, the ******* Lord Elgnub, standing in front of the locked door. I charged him with my fists and kick, and use the power of level 31th Human Monk to kill him, and he almost killed me with only two spells, which the first one drained half of my full health bar (total 737 HP) and the second is the Disease Cloud caused damage to me one fourth of my total HP during 10 seconds battle. If you want to do and complete the quest by yourself without risking your life, you must be at least level 30. Lord Elgnub is considered high green (this creature may cause some problems) to me and still give me exp at level 31th. Good luck to all.

Anyway, where can I find Gnoll Hide Tome?

iwas reading the ranger quest on this page a while back and was just out of bb(tryin to get a gnoll hide tome<not futiley either>)
anyhow i saw the all too familiar i didnt see the x and read part of the gnoll slayer quest when i saw that it was nerefed and confirmed i put it out of my mind after reading them all(omfg yankil) i remembered my wife called me and told me it was blue my time killin was over and we went out to champs(locol sports bar) to celebrate. then i thought what if we could have ababy in eq too.......

i remeberd in one of the quest there was a baby right after reading 3 i remeberd it was nerfed and that led me strait to the gnoll slayer

i read it again and saw that it was a white gnoll that dropped the eye and book yet there are only those gnolls in velious exept for 1 the gnoll refugee in bb where the gnoll slayer quest take place but the tome and eye are from sp right wrong ive already got 2 eyes of him a sp tunic and a several runed totem staffs thats why i was camping for the tome. if he has the tome the mabey hes the theif?? and if so then mabey after u get the non magic gnoll slayer u camp the refugee fore a few days get his tome and eye (im getting my eye identified) and give them to sum1 and pizzaz a mistwalker for lower lvls that all meles can use.......??? !
The bestiary here has had a pic of Elgnub for quite some tim
# Dec 28 2000 at 3:26 PM Rating: Default
It used to be Illia's bestiary, or it still is but it's part of Allakhazam's site??? Anyways, there's been a pic of Elgnub there for months, just FYI guys, also getting the gnollslayer isn't broken. The part that IS broken is the upgraded version of the gnollslayer, the part that supposedly summons a wolf and cures disease or something.

I've heard he wanders after he spawns in the snake pit, rumors are down near the elite room. I wouldn't be surprised. Not to mention the fact that some unlucky fellow may have happened upon him and tried to run only to die in the elite room :)

I have taken him in the elite room twice now. Both in the same night. That said he dropped a gnoll head, what is that all about?

Would love to learn more about it.

I finally killed Lord Elgnub. Took me a week of camping him of around 4 hours a day. Killed about 10 High Shamans in the High Shaman room and the last one was the one that triggered Elgnub. I decided to let him cast his spells instead of killing him right away, so he stood there happily buffing himself and his fellow gnolls. When he stopped casting I had at him and he dropped promptly. I left the 2 elite spots up and the other random spot had a commander in it. I looted then immediately hit track. Lo and behold Lord Elgnub was the second name on track. I was practically jumping in my seat as I ran to the snake pit. He was standing right in front of the locked door. I took a screenshot or 2 and moved in close for a better one. He attacked me!?!? I was a 31 ranger at the time. He conned high green to me and I did get xp off the kill. Don't know whether he aggrod because of the lvls or because he was a split-paw gnoll. He almost immediately harm touched me for a bub of life. I killed him with around half my life left. I looted the baby and a practically worthless bloodstone ring off him. I turned in the baby and got the gnollslayer. I doubted the existance of this gnoll, but think about it, the hs room on my server isn't camped 24/7, the hs is a horribly rare spawn, and Elgnub doesn't trigger every time he dies. To say Elgnub spawns once a week or even a month when there's not a high level pounding the hs room would not be inaccurate. If anyone still doubts his existance post your email here. I'll be happy to send you a pic of Elgnub sitting in front of the locked door in the snake pit with one or 2 spikes showing and part of a giant snake. Good hunting and good luck.

P.S. you might notice this is a double post from a few months ago, I finally got a log in name for Allakhazams and decided to repost this, hope you rate it as good as the previous one :)

ok if it is fixed then it would be useable by the same people the gnoll slayer is
Some thoughts
# Nov 17 2000 at 10:58 AM Rating: Default
ok,
1)the lord is real
2)why do all these people want the gnoll slyaer, its a peice of crap,if yur high enogh to do the quest you should have a better wepon, or better yet go to CB and do the screaming mace quest (8/28 magic effect-Screamingmace(yaulp)
3)even if the quest wasent broken, would you relly give up a gnoll hide tome?
RE: Some thoughts
# Nov 17 2000 at 4:41 PM Rating: Default
To answer your questions.
1) Obviously
2) Who said I want to do the quest to get the weapon? I personally love doing quests just to do them. Groflah's Stoutbite is a pathetic weapon, but I did the quest. Still have the thing in the bank, too... just in case something comes up where it's needed for a re-implemented "Bunker Battle Blade" quest. As for the screaming mace... why would I want that? My blunt skills are miserable.
3) If the quest wasn't broken, yes I would give up a gnoll hide tome. You can use the tome to get Gem Inlaid Gauntlets (not terribly impressive) or do the Tesh Val scrolls quest with the hides for the Karana's Tear (Ooo... +5stamina earring. Give me a break)

This quest, if it's fixed, (rumored) gives a 9/30 weapon that summons a wolf pet. If useable by a Paladin, that would be awesome! I'd use it all the time and really freak people out! However given Verant's normal practice, I imagine the final weapon is Ranger-only.
I got a gnoll slayer

The quest is still broken, since all Verrant's efforst ar ein the new DirectX patch, i imagine it will be some time until we see any of the broken quests fixed.
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 3:16 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 16 2001 at 2:46 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Did you post your "Courtesy" message with every quest? Nut. It's understandable that you have probably had some long quests, but... you could've been camped and gone in the time it took you to do this...
This is how I did it

I finally managed to get my Gnoll Slayer today. He did spawn in the snake pit, I can only say that he was green to me. He spawned immediately after I killed the or a "gnoll high shaman" who had spawned in the elite room. Now lets keep our fingers crossed and hope they fix the rest of the quest, I want a sword that will summon a pet wolf!!
