In the Tink 'N Bubble at night there is an NPC named Grype. He spawns in the same place as Clerk Doval. If you hail him, he'll just be finishing his ale. Go buy four Cabilis Pale Ales and give them to him. You'll be rewarded with a loud burp, some experience, and coin.

He'll also tell you not to mess with a Blue Talon. If you ask him what a Blue Talon is he'll take a swipe at you (text, not an actual attack) and tell you that the Blue Talons were the bruisers of the westside. Whether or not there is more to this is unknown.

Blue Talon?

I'm wondering if the Blue Talons was a defunct group and this drunk was one of them....maybe all the drunks in the game are former members LOL
huh

gives 1 cp and 0 xp at lvl 11.
Hail text - quest reward
# Dec 11 2002 at 11:03 AM Rating: Good
You say, 'Hail, Grype'
Grype gulps down the rest of his ale. 'Looks like I'll need another.'

Klok Poklon says 'Welcome to my shop, Xurish. You would probably find a Fish Wine handy.'
Klok Poklon tells you, 'That'll be 8 silver 9 copper per Cabilis Pale Ale.'
You give 3 gold 5 silver 5 copper to Klok Poklon.

Grype drinks the ale as if it were a shot. 'Ahhh!! Keep it coming. I think we are going to be good friends. Or something.'
Grype drinks the ale as if it were a shot. 'Ahhh!! Keep it coming. I think we are going to be good friends. Or something.'
Grype drinks the ale as if it were a shot. 'Ahhh!! Keep it coming. I think we are going to be good friends. Or something.'

Grype swallows the whole bottle in one gulp. 'Here, go buy yourself a brain. What?!! You expecting something? How about this.. <BUUURRRPPPP!!> Thanks for helping me get through my dry spell, croak!! Never mess with a Blue Talon!!'

You receive 1 copper from Grype.

You say, 'what blue talon?'
Grype takes a swipe at you. 'We used to be the bruisers of the west side. We didn't take nothin' from no one!! Fist and mind was our motto. Now get lost before I introduce my fist to your face. Hmpf. Too late, I see.'

---------

Suspicions at this point would be to say "Fist and Mind" to suspected bruisers.

Either this quest has been removed, was never implemented, or simply never existed. Likely Grype is just here for local color.

Glich in the Game
# Jan 01 2002 at 8:34 PM Rating: Default
I got a glitch where i was teleported up there(or someone *probably invisible* teleported me there)i saw a Grype(unusaul looking one, he had a different robe and bracelets)I hailed him and it said ... Grype says 'go where the sun meets the rain and there is no desert in sight.'... got me stumped so i jumped down from there and continued on.

Is there some way your name can be grype(like some sort of hacking device?)or was that just part of the glitch..................?

I killed a halfling swashbuckler in FV outside the city. He dropped a stein 2/30 lore no drop. I cast identify on it and got: Crafted by Grype- Cabilis. Im a human mage so guess I wont get to turn this in to see what happens. This was the second time ive seen the halfling swashbuckler in FV. He is green to 47.

What lvl is Grype?

Ok I only have one question, WHAT LEVEL IS GRYPE?! I want to kill the sob so I can get his robe, that would be cool a untrackable robe!=P

Hehe... my friend and I tried to do just that. We both HT'd (we were both 49 at the time) and ran. The Harm Touches got resisted and we got chased to the zone by half of the Cabilis guards and crusaders. I got HT'd by Quarg for 701. It would be really difficult to kill him if he's 100% MR.

He was green to us, btw. I never hit us so I don't know /how/ green.

Was green to me at 54, hehe, I tried it, and I can tell you not only is he a serious undercon (I was down to less than half hp when he was still at 97%!) but attacking him will bring half of Cabilis on you.

Robe is not that great, by the way, is just 10ac 10sv magic, iksar necro only. No drop.

Really not worth the effort, hehe, unless you just want to show off that you got it.
Bruiser Noz
# Dec 04 2001 at 5:08 AM Rating: Decent
Bruiser Noz will appear in the Fort Near the Lake of Ill Omen entrace. As part of the Shaman Skull Quest #6.

Hand a Dragoon Helm to One of the Kloks.. Sargryn?
I believe is his name. Upstairs, left hand side facing out from the gate.

Bruiser Noz appears to kick your butt. Stomp him into the dirt and you get a 2handed Hammer "Bruiser Noz's Hammer"
No idea what its for. Sure its for a shaman quest as it was part of a chain.

Bruiser Noz

Klok Emphir mentions a "Bruiser Noz" when you talk to him about the Shackle of Copper quest. My Prima Strategy guide lists Bruiser Noz as being in LOIO, but I or anyone else has ever found him. Since LOIO is on west side, I was thinking Noz might be another Talon member.
Anyone know where to find Noz?

He is a triggered spawn which you see when you give a dragoon helm to a Klok(merchant) near the loio side of the loio/west cabilis entrance. It's the only way to get him to spawn and is part of the 6th Shaman Cudgel quest.

If you look up the stats on his robe, you'll realize that it's absolutely worthless to anyone who has the ability to kill Grype! (10ac, 10sv magic) Plus it will severely hurt your faction with your own guild (assuming you're an iksar necro... since it's iksar necro only and no drop, you're wasting your time getting it otherwise).

The only reason you'de ever want this robe is for novelty and bragging rights. It's simply not worth the effort.

I can't stand it when peeps post stuff and can't even spell. It's like they have the grammer of a two-year-old. Hey, just a remider...see that key in the upper-right portion of your keybord? It's called BACKSPACE and it's there for a reason...USE IT. BTW, hooked on ebonics worked for me.

Hey man, if your going to insult someones spelling you should check your own before you do, theres mispelled words in your too.
spawn
# Jun 11 2001 at 4:52 PM Rating: Default
To get him to spawn, try killing the 3 froglok slaves. I had just killed them the time I saw him spawn. Probably just coincidence.
Grype is a Blue Talon
# Jun 11 2001 at 4:50 PM Rating: Default
Grype was actually part of the Blue Talons (now he's a drunk). He states that 'we blue talons used to have a motto, Fist and Mind.', plus he is waring a Light Blue robe with dirty cuffs that is completely unique as far as I know.
Lokei
# Apr 24 2001 at 4:24 PM Rating: Default
The West Side Monk is by the entrance to the Lake Zone. He is an Iksar Hermit. He wears a dark robe. Talk to him about the talons.
RE: Lokei
# May 08 2001 at 3:41 PM Rating: Default
Actually the Iksar Hermit is a Necromancer not a Monk. He wears the Necro robe just like the necro's in the guild. Also I saw a post awhile back on another message board that if you ask the Head Necro (Glosk i think) about the "Iksar Hermit" it gives you negative faction with the Necro guild.

another strange thing..
# Jan 14 2001 at 8:05 PM Rating: Default
Gripe can cast Necro/SK spells... imagine a monk with necro spells... that would be a yummy hybrid.
Blue Talons
# Sep 19 2000 at 1:55 AM Rating: Decent
I am gonna go on a limb here and guess that the Blue Talons are a gang of 'West-side' (West Cabilis) Monks so named after Talon Southpaw.

What are your thoughts?
RE: Blue Talons
# Apr 22 2001 at 5:41 PM Rating: Decent
Around the Necro guild and the merchants in West Cabilis in the mountain face, i saw smoke from a fire coming from it. There must be a cave or something in there, but i tried climbing up the rocks and couldn't reach it. Im going to ask one of my shaman friends to give me a levitate up there.
RE: Blue Talons
# May 05 2001 at 4:04 PM Rating: Decent
Last night I saw the fire you indicated in your post. I have a 24th level shaman and was able to use levitate to get up to the spot. There was a small campfire and a tent, but no NPC. Stayed there for an entire gameday, but no spawn. Either the owner of the tent spawns more rarely, required some sore of trigger to spawn, or the site is simply abandoned. Seems unlikely that they would put something up there for no reason, however.
RE: Blue Talons
# May 27 2001 at 10:14 AM Rating: Default
You can get up there without levitate. The first jump from the boulder to the wall is a bit tricky, but it's easy after that.
RE: Blue Talons
# May 07 2001 at 5:15 PM Rating: Decent
Maybe you have to talk to Grype for the NPC to spawn. It probably has a re-pop time also.
RE: Blue Talons
# Aug 11 2001 at 1:26 PM Rating: Default
No NPC spawns here. This is where my character on the Tribunal sits everytime he works on alchemy. It a nice secluded area where no one where bother you. I have been sitting there from time to time for over a year now (actual time, not game time) and have NEVER seen anything up there besides me and my tent.
