This quest results in the Medallion of the Kylong, which is one of three medallions needed for the Rune of Scale Quest to get into Veeshan's Peak.

In the Lake of Ill Omen, somewhere left of the lake, if your back is to Cabilis, there's a tower with some things spinning around it. It's odd and tall, not too hard to find. Anyway, inside of that tower, there's an Erudite standing in there who's red to me at 49, and is indifferent. His name is Professor Akabao, and here's the log.

You say, 'hail Professor Akabao'.

Professor Akabao says 'Salutations traveler I dont get many visitors in these isolated regions. Have you come to learn of the ancient tribes of the Iksar?

You say, 'i have come to learn of the ancient tribes of the iksar'.

Professor Akabao says 'There were five tribes of Iksars that rose from the ashes of the Shissar Empire and founded their kingdoms on the continent of Kunark. Three of the tribes were extinguished many years later by the Kunzar tribe which is the tribe that the current Iksar are descendant from. I focus my studies on learning of the extinct tribe of Kylong.

You say, 'who are the kylong?'.

Professor Akabao says 'The Kylong were a mountain dwelling tribe of Iksar that strove for esoteric knowledge. They had vast libraries of ancient magical tomes that had been acquired from the Shissar sorcerers, and strove to understand and put the rituals documented in the tomes to practical use. When the Kunzar armies marched upon the Kylong, the three greatest Kylong mystics shattered the Medallion of Kylong, a holy relic of their tribe and fled their mountain homes in order to prevent the Kunzar from reassembling the Medallion of Kylong.

You say, 'where is the medallion'.

Professor Akabao says 'I have been attempting to learn of the destinations of the three Kylong leaders that held the fragments of the medallion. I know only that they sought shelters to hide and continue the practice of their mystical arts In order to one day return their tribe to it's former glory. Their remains may exist beneath some of the fortresses that are centers of Iksar and Sarnak necromancy. I have seen indications that some of the tomes within those fortresses are in fact the very tomes once cherished by the Kylong. Should you manage to recover the broken pieces of the Medallion of Kylong bring them to me so that I may restore the ancient artifact.

Remember that there are three separate medallions in the game, each broken into three pieces that just say a piece of broken medallion when you find it. You need to identify the piece of medallion you find to determine which one it is.

These are the locations:

(1) Middle Portion: Dropped by Verix Kylox's Remains, found in the sewers of Karnor's Castle.

(2) Bottom Portion: Found sitting on the floor in the library in Kaesora.

(3) Upper Portion: Found via the Niblek's Gems quest in Chardok. (bring Niblek a Black Sapphire and a Ruby)

Upon turn in of the 3 pieces.

Professor Akabao says, 'Are you daft? How can I reconstruct the medallion of the Kylong without all three pieces?!'

Professor Akabao says, 'Are you daft? How can I reconstruct the medallion of the Kylong without all three pieces?!'

Professor Akabao says, 'For ages this medallion has been scattered across these inhospitable lands, I had just about given up hope of locating the pieces and rebuilding this piece of Iksar history. You may keep it. It is enough to know that I have done my part to restore such an artifact to the people of Norrath.'

Verix Kylox's Remains drops roughly 6-10 medallions and, at least on Teek, they're random
The quested medallion can drop from any mob in Chardok, it seems
Bottom portion, you're just gonna have to pick up, although it seems to spawn in different areas on the upper portion of the library
Also if you're a Shadow Knight and in the library on Teek, the rares there drop pieces of the visceral dagger, hilt included. You'll still have to get the hammer from the undead blacksmith, though.

Faction does NOT matter as Professor is not on any faction in the game that can be altered. Don't even need to hail or read any script just turn in all 3 pieces to get your medallion
Dubious faction

The turn-in will work with dubious faction. Just check to make sure he will respond to a hail with the line about the ancient tribes of iksar.
What faction?

When you turn in the medallion pieces to Professor Akabao, what is your minimum faction you need to do the turn-in successfully?

The medallion in the library in Kaesora:

It is on the upper floor, as many have posted, if you go in the front of the library (near the fountain), then go around the bottom floor to back, there are stairs going up. Go upstairs, turn left, jump over a fallen bookcase and go to the corner, you see the little bag on the ground. It's EXACT location is 56, -441, -74.

For Chardok. It's way down there LOL, and quite a few turns on the way, in the caves. I know that's not much help, but the location someone posted for the mob is accurate if you look under the gems quest link.

Actually, no hope piece spawned twice for me, within seconds. Got library piece, now just waiting on another. Darn Hydras!

Update. All the spoliers say its on 2hr 20min spawn. But I am thinkin it can skip. I sat my cleric there and waited total of 3 hrs after my other char looted it. Logged, Came back 1.5hrs later and within 30 mins it appeared in front of my nose.

The piece in Library in Kaesora is on a 12 hour timer. The Bloodgill is on a 8hour timer. And the Swamp of No Hope piece is also a 12 hour spawn. Hope this helps

The Medalion is one of three medalions (along with a tooth from Trakanon) needed to complete the key to Veeshan's Peak.

All of the 9 medallion pieces that make up the quest for the VP key are on 8 hour timers. if you get one and a friend needs it as well, come back in 8 hours.

If I am understanding your statement, what you say is untrue.

In KC, Verix spawned three times in a row and dropped the medallion piece all three times. His spawn time is approx. 20 minutes.

I don't believe this is true for the other pieces as well, excluding the Bloodgill Marauder.

Looted a medal in K Castle
# Apr 04 2002 at 1:39 AM Rating: Default
Last night I grped in the basement in Kanors castle. Some named pet attacked us along with a named pet summoned skele. He dropped what I believe is the medal in question. I won the roll for it. Is this the same one for the key to Veshan's Peak? If so where else do I need to go and what lvls do you need to be to obtain the rest of them.

#Chinghis, Posted: Jan 18 2002 at 5:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Um, OK, the Erudite finally responded to my Dwarf Rogue. So I come here for a bit more info - what does this medallion do? Has no one finished it? Just curious.
RE: So, what _is_ it?!
# Jan 19 2002 at 2:35 AM Rating: Decent

From what the description says, the medallion is the key to Veeshan Peak.
Some of the high level dungeons require keys to access them, such as Howling Stone (Charasis), Sleeper's Tomb, etc. If you have been to TOFS, you know that you need to find a key in the current level in order to get to the next higher level. Hope this helps =)

Thoughts on camping verix - Squisher
# Aug 10 2001 at 5:28 PM Rating: Default
Just spent 15 hours camping Verix Kyloxs. He never spawned. Only 36 Ph's, the decayed kylong iksar. I will try again tomorrow.

It seems that each of the 9 medallion pieces are designed to take 8 hours to camp, with an exception or two. Assuming Verix is supposed to spawn in 8 hours, on the average, this would mean killing 19 Ph's first. This mirrors a report I heard two days ago that Verix was killed after 19 Ph's. If 19 Ph's is the average, then having to kill 36 Ph's is just as likely as having to kill 2 Ph's. And I have heard of people getting Verix after 2 Ph's.

In short, expect to spend anywhere from an hour up to 15 hours and beyond to get this guy.
verix
# Aug 10 2001 at 5:33 PM Rating: Default
Spawn time is roughly 25 minutes btw. If 8 hours is the average time for verix to pop, then there's a 5% chance that he will pop each and every time. Which means of course, that if you have killed 40 ph's, your chances arent any better. The next Ph *still* has only a 5% chance of being Verix :(
Verix
# Jul 24 2001 at 5:25 AM Rating: Default
Verix is definatly the hardest part of the Kylong Medallion. Just got the peice last night, Expect it to be alot like Efreeti camp with simular rarity and maybe rarer drop simular to Eboot drop. The drop itself is very common, But he does not spawn much. Expect to spend 5 hours PER medallion peice there. To think any less time per peice is being optimistic.

Niblek can be done many ways. If there are no scaledog things(they see invis) in your way you can simply invis to Niblek and hand in stuff, Be careful though as the mobs will kill Niblek if you train him. Otherwise setup a group and pull to him.

Library is easy.

the medallion you get from the Bloodgills is for one of the other quests: Medallion of the Jarsath (see matching thread).
Kaesora??
# Apr 23 2001 at 9:38 AM Rating: Default
It seems every time I visit the library, the medallion is gone.. Is it on an 8 hr timer or something? If so, I suspect a guild is camping/farming it because I've tried a number of times, and every time the zone is totally empty but the medallion is not in the library. Either that or I'm not looking in the right place - on the tables? hmmmm.

i've had the same problem with the medallion in the library. my friend has done the quest and gotten all the pieces so we know we're in the right place, but that darn library piece just won't spawn :(. i don't get it :/. we're like the only one in zone for a long time and no luck :(.

I found a medallion piece in the swamp of no hope lying on the ground, i was wondering if this is part of the kylong medallion quest, or if it's just a piece of a medallion (magic no drop)

The tower sopken of is refered to as "The Windmill" and is a staging place for hunter in the high teens and lower 20's. It is begind the goblin ruin directally south of where the stream from FV enters the lake (you should be able to get a loc by shouting).

The professor is a cranker man and dosn't seem to like tankish types much. I have a warrior friend who cannot go into or near the entrance because he is KOS to the professor, with a message on the grounds that he cannot stnad such types that have an undervolped mind. However, this may be due only to bad faction.

I would suggest a full group, but not a must. He spawns in the basement area next to the pedistal in the far room. There is about 5 or 6 mobs in that room so its harder to break spawn than it is to keep. We camped for about 6 to 8 hrs and he only spawned twice.
