The Oracle may be found on top of a mountain at -15, -6730, -200 post-revamp.

You say, 'Hail, Oracle of K`Arnon'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'Greetings, ______, I am the Oracle of K'Arnon. Do you quest for [knowledge] yourself, or do you offer that which I [seek]?'

You say, 'What about knowledge?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'I have lived long and have insight into many matters, yet I despise charity. To learn from me, you must first bring me that which I [seek].'

You say, 'What do you seek?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'I seek knowledge, which is superior to all things. And no knowledge is greater than that which is contained within the [Tome of Ages].'

You say, 'What is the Tome of Ages?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'The Tome of Ages has been compiled over the millennia by the Scribes of [Dal]. It was divided into seven distinct books by the scribes to keep the knowledge from one such as me. That said, with aid, I shall unite these books and the Tome of Ages shall be mine.'

You say, 'What about the Dal?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'They were elves once, but now are Teir'Dal, and as evil as they are wise. Many tomes have they written, but none greater than the Tome of Ages.'

You say, 'What about the Book of Ages?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'The seven Books that make up the Tome of Ages are those of Enlightenment, Scale, Turmoil, Monuments, Elders, Blood, and the Lost Book. Each of these great books is an important chapter in the history of Norrath. If ever you find one of these books, bring it to me.'

You say, 'What about the Book of Enlightenment?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'I do not seek the Book of Enlightenment at this time, but I might have need of it in the future.'

You say, 'What about the Book of Scale?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'Ah, the Book of Scale.. It would be wondrous indeed if you could recover the Book of Scale for me. If you do manage to procure the Book of Scale, I will gladly part with an artifact of my own that may be of interest to you.'

Giving him the Book of Scale nets you Miragul's Phylactery, used in the Fiery Avenger quest, a subquest for the Paladin epic.

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'Unbelievable! The legendary Book of Scale is mine! Please, take this as a small token of my thanks. I warn you however, if you ever manage to join the corporeal body to the evil that resides within, you will rue the day.'

Your faction standing with Oracle Of Karnon got better.
Your faction standing with Oracle Of Marud got worse.
You gain experience!!

You say, 'What about the Book of Turmoil?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'Ah, yes! The Book of Turmoil. I seek this book, and should you find it and return it to me, I will reward you with secret knowledge.'

Giving him the Book of Turmoil,

Oracle of K`Arnon says, 'Thank thee for this tome. Be sure to check back with me later, as I might have another task for thee.'
Your faction standing with Oracle of K`Arnon has been adjusted by 10.
Your faction standing with Oracle of Marud has been adjusted by -10.
You gain experience!

You say, 'What about the Book of Monuments?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'I do not seek the Book of Monuments at this time, but I might have need of it in the future.

You say, 'What about the Book of Elders?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'I do not seek the Book of Elders at this time, but I might have need of it in the future.

You say, 'What about the Book of Blood?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'I do not seek the Book of Blood at this time, but I might have need of it in the future.

You say, 'What about the Lost Book?'

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'I do not seek the Lost Book at this time, but I might have need of it in the future.'

First, I'd like to point all new readers to the post of 4/9/2001 at the bottom of all this. The post by Annyhillus is the most important info regarding this quest. Eighty-five percent of the rest is crap, and some of it is complete crap. Hey, mine is just so much speculation, and might be the same--I know that, so save your flames!

Second, I think this quest may not be complete and in game yet. It is obviously VERY difficult, and if complete, is one of the majority (per Verant) of quests that is complete but unsolved. I believe the book of the lost is to be found in Takish-Hiz, not Kunark, as that is the lost city of the Elddar. A lost contient of Iksar holding the secret just doesnt' make sense, although I could see it due to the outpost at FV. (Not sure where/when it fits in Elvish history.) But I believe this book was lost with the abandonment of the Elven city, when the land changed, leaving the Deserts of Ro/Oasis of Marr where once stood the mighty elven forests.

Third, my reason for assuming it is incomplete also has to do with an error in several postings I see below, even Annyhillus'. It is hinted or stated outright that Befallen is Takish-Hiz, or that the city is "one of the ruins" in Oasis, and the book has yet to be found there. Nope. I'm not clear on Befallen's exact origins but think about it people, does it resemble a city in the least? Hardly. And the ruins don't look like a city either, nor does the island. A temple, defensive outposts, and another temple yes. A city? Hah.

Do this. Go through the tunnel from EC to Nro. Cast invis, and then start running south along the wall. Zone to Oasis. Keep going, right down the orc highway. Pass the orc camp/plinths and then go over the next hill. Look right. You'll know it when you see it.... That, people, is Takish-Hiz. In the Developer's Corner a while back, Verant quite deliberately "smiled and said nothing" when someone asked them outright if it was. Why Verant is working on the Stoneburnt Mountains in an out-of-the-way, hole-in-the-wall (literally!) spot off the Warrens, when they could be adding an easily reached dungeon/city that every (even semi-roleplaying) elf would kill to get to, I don't know. Maybe they want to do it justice so they're keeping it under wraps until it's ready, presumably after Luclin. I don't know. But I suspect the Book of the Lost will be found here, possibly one of the others too.

And when they announce the opening of that zone (which I hope they do via an epic-style GM event) I will be camping in Oasis the night before the patch goes in on Luclin, and you are welcome to join me. My elvish brethren, our ancient home awaits us!

Completed the book quest in Neriak commons as far as killing the brother Marenko.

He is no longer level 15. He is level 40. At level 51 I soloed him as a chanter. Clean kill. But the following things happened...

No experience.
Corpse disappeared.
Bad faction on the following:
DarkBargainers
DreadguardOuter
Dreadguardinner
and of course, no head to complete the quest.

There was supposed to be a faction INCREASE with those listed, not a decrease.

This quest is defunct at Marenko.

Once again I say that the brother you kill is Lokar. NOT Marenko. you get the head from Lokar and give it to the sister. That will improve faction lost from killing Lokar.

It is posts like this that make me cringe at the lack of intelligence that players exhibit.

The borther is NOT Marenkor. Lokar To'Biath is. Ya know the one that you got the note from?

Read the note. READ IT, for Innoruuk's sake!

If you read the Book of Turmoil quest notes you'll see that Marenko To'Biath is her other brother, and according to the quest details is the one you are supposed to kill

what i dont understand here is why you are arguing it is marenko when you killed him and it obviously isnt him. those who have lokar have never once said that it wasnt him. and it even makes sense. lokar tells you about her vow, in the note he gives you to give to her, he urges her to convert back to inny, and he signs it your brother lokar. the note she give you says my brother has betrayed me and told my secret go kill him and bring me his head. where does marenko come from? just cuz he's a to'biath? there are many to'biaths in neraik. just cuz marenko is close by doesnt mean he's the one. it just doesnt make any sense.

about the books
# Jul 05 2001 at 12:39 PM Rating: Default
He has to need more than the 2 books otherwise the quest would completed and you would have the tome of the ages, what I am assuming from the names of the books is they are each a testament of history of norrath and the tome is a compiled history of all of norrath complete with details and probably a spell ( gotta have a reward ) These are just educated guesses but they seem to be the best idea if any. The oracle IS there for a reason and not to just lead us on. There has to be an ending to this quest and I am determined to find one. Im writing a journal about any of my discoveries and as soon as Im done I will post them on a website somewhere for everyone to read. Good luck to you all. This quest I fear is FAR from over.

7 Tomes Needed
1. Book of Scale
2. Book of Turmoil
3. Book of Enlightenment
4. Book of Elders
5. Book of Blood
6. Book of Monuments
7. The Lost Book

Some of the Tomes are in seperate pieces and must be combined in order to have the true tome.
Tome of the Ages were written by the scribes of Dal.
Lost book may have some connection to the Island or somewhere near the island in the Oasis.
This quest PRE-Dates Kunark and Velious.
Cavern of living rock might have a connection to one of the tomes.

Hope this helps some people so you dont have to read the whole thing ;p

I have to keep saying this I guess, Kunark and, as I know so far, Velious have nothing to do with this quest. The books that drop in Kunark, The Code of Combat, The History of Combat, The Tome of Combat, The Book of Knowledge have nothing to do with this quest. The books needed are:

1 The Book of Scale
2 The Book of Elders
3 The Book of Monuments
4 The Book of Blood
5 The Book of Enlightenment
6 The Book of Turmoil
7 The Lost Book

I am organizing a raid on Naggy and Vox on Fenin Ro with my guild, we shall see what info the Book of Scale gives us...

The lost book
# Jun 25 2001 at 6:29 AM Rating: Default
In the history of norrath, the lost age began when Solusek Ro turned the Elddar Forest (located in the souther eastern part of Tunaria - Desert of Ro) into a desert and the elves had to flee the city of Takish Hiz. The only evidence of a city is the island in the middle of the oasis of Marr. I'm not high enough to go there because of the specs and goblins, though. Is there an underwater area beneath the ruins, or something that spawns that might have or know of the Lost Book?

I haven't looked into this quest at all, but this reference I hear people mention seems pretty distinct. Geonids I think they're called. They're living organisms made out of rocks and minerals, and they live in a big cave in Wakening Lands I believe. Anyone checked that?

"I also have an update on who the Elddar are. The Eladdar were the ancient Elven inhabitants of Elddar Forest (now the desert of Ro) on the continent of Tunaria (Antonica). This would mean that the Oracle is VERY old indeed, since he refers to himself as one of the Elddar. I believe that one, or part of one of the books may be found in the desert of Ro, in the city of Takish-Hiz, which would be one of the ruins in the desert." --Annyhillus

Pardon me, but Takish`Hiz is the old High Elf City, which is now the dungeon of Befallen....

ok now with most quests in this game save one necro quest i did, you need all parts present when doing the quest. but with this one, there are more parts than trade slots? so i am kind of confused, the oracle does give you a item for every book? is the item your given a receipt, of sorts? well this quest has me completely stumped i will check back up on it in a few months.

I think I have addressed all of your comments here previously (I know its a lot of reading). Allow me to briefly summarize...

As far as needing all of the rewards from each book for a final return to the Oracle, I personally figure that that is not necessary because one of the two know rewards is no-drop. There are only two known rewards, although it is most likely that there are seven rewards. But, some quests use no-drop items... the jury is still out on that one.

The no-drop item is used in another quest. So, it is possible that there are more quest that use the Oracle's rewards.

... and reading all of this. VERY interested in what this eventually leads to. However, if you put all the info together that we have, you get:
1) Probably a Velious connection in this somewhere
2) Cavern of living stone is involved

GENOIDS are the living stone in Norrath, as you'll learn if you have done their quest. So yes, I'd almost definitely bet Crystal Caverns is involved, as the previous poster suggested, but not for the waviness... for the genoids. Either CC or the Phenocryst in Wakening Lands, but cavern really naturally makes it seem like CC is a better bet, though I haven't seen any named genoids there.

My only question now is, will they talk to me about anything related to this quest, either before or after I have quested the pheno focus. Soon as this silly high elf spawns with my text, I will make my way over there. ;)

New Scribe
# May 02 2001 at 5:46 PM Rating: Excellent
Another scribe associated with the Fiery Avenger quest has appeared outside of North Qeynos. Her name is Rineval. When spoken to with the key word "scribe" in the text she responds with..."who told you I was a scribe?" You say; "Kanthurn told me." (Kanthrun is a apparently new NPC in Lake Rathe who directs you to Rineval.0

She will then say; "Oh, well if it's a scribe you need..." and goes on to state the same information as Rysva To'Biath's note concerning putting the Frost Covered and Burnt books together for 1000p.

This would imply that she is also a Scribe of Dal, although appears Human. She does not respond to any other questions about any other aspect of the Tome of Ages. This is disappointing, although it is too early to tell if she is of use or not. Apparently some sort of caster she was red to my 24th level alt wizard.

My research continues...

Unfortunately, my earlier prediction that this quest may be unsolvable becomes more of a reality. Any small changes to this quest on Verant's end can keep this quest evolving to the point that no one will want to pursue it anymore.

Let's hope that the quest is set in stone.

Wow, I find this all amazing =). Nice quest info, and it would appear the result will turn out to be well worth it.

One thing though. On the Brell server, the torn books from Lady Vox and Lord Nagafen are both kept for paladins only. Perhaps this is one sign of the difference in servers, but it surprises me that the book of scale would be used for a character class other than paladin. Seems a bit unfair, too. /shrug.

Good luck on the quest. I'm turning my book of scale in soon enough, but being a paladin, I'm opting to use it on Miragul.

Well, either way you go, FA or Tome of Ages, the Book of Scale yeilds the same reward. What I would ask of you to do is ask the following questions of the oracle BEFORE AND AFTER you turn in the Book of Scale:

Hail him.
Ask: 'What do you seek?

What Book of Turmoil?
What Book of Scale?
What Book of Enlightenment?
What Lost Book?
What Book of Blood?
Waht Book of Monuments?
What Book of Elders?

Who is Marud?'

Then post your conversation here. It would be much appreciated.

Ages
# Apr 25 2001 at 6:04 PM Rating: Default
Ages and a Cavern, what I have found without looking.
Ages-

Scale- Dragon rule of Norrath.
Elders- Elddar Elves, first elves of Takish-Hiz
Monuments- Combines?
Blood- Erud war?
Enlightenment- Rise of Antonius Bayle
Turmoil- Current age, Order, Discord, New Iksar
Lost- Kunark perhaps? Shissar?

Cavern of Living stone could well be the Underfoot. In a book from Paineel Library I found that the Hole reached "almost to the Underfoot" suggesting that the Underfoot is no plane but a cavern magically linked to the plane of earth. The new Everquest.com deity information supports this.

The books all represent different ages in Norrath's history, in order the books and ages are:

1 The Book of Scale - The Age of Scale
2 The Book of Elders - The Elder Age
3 The Book of Monuments - The Age of Monuments
4 The Book of Blood - The Age of Blood
5 The Book of Enlightenment - The Age of Enlightenment
6 The Book of Turmoil - The Age of Turmoil
7 The Lost Book - The Lost Age (this is speculation)

Living stone is most likely The Hole... In stead of reposting all of the info, just use this link:

The problem is that the quest is older than RoK AND the books match perfectly with the ages of Norrath. The books in Cabalis are just thrown in to give Iksar players a sense of that raqces history or maybe for another quest altogether.

Aye, that was the hoax. There has been NO info about any other books... until that info is found, all stories of solutions are mere rumors.

A good example of why I don't believe this quest has been solved is that there is no order in turning in the books AND, no matter what books are turned in, the Oracle says the same things.

I am curious as to whom the Tome of Ages will go. The Oracle seeks it for himself, I am doubtful that he will part with it.

Each book turned in yeilds a different reward. I have entertained the idea that perhaps these rewards need to be saved and turned back in to the Oracle once all of the books have been given to him. This doesn't seem plausible because the Book of Scale yields a NO DROP item... the phylactery. IF there are simply 7 minor rewards and no tome, then this quest is a bust. Yet, if each item were to have a function in an additional quest, like the phylactery, then this quest has some value as a quest generator. The fiery avenger quest being an example... I have yet to find a use for the glowing torch though.

Another thought: Perhaps the reason that the Oracle is seeking both turmoil and scale is that those books have been turned in already. Since no other books have been found (as far as I know) this is a reasonably safe assumption based upon known information.

As for the other books, The Hole still awaits. And, the desert of Ro is still to yield any secrets.

Have you actually given him a "rare" work found on "powerful individuals" as he asks, such as the Book of Turmoil? I know he does not respond to questions regarding Marud, however his interest in such things is still very suspicious.

As for the Oracle and his initial text on the Books Annyhillus, I have spoke with him without turning in a book and he does speak of the Book of Turmoil exactly as you have previously detailed.

The cavern of living stone is clearly a reference to the Hole.

Factual information... much appreciated.

I gave the Tomekeeper the Book Turmoil and he stated that it was insufficient for his needs. Yes, he is suspicious, however, I think he is more interested in research. I would hate to give him the Book of Scale only to have him state that it, too, was insufficient for his needs.

Just to clarify... The Oracle is NOT loking for the Bok of Turmoil, only the Book of scale?

If indeed this is the case, then we have discovered some valuable information: the order of the books is according to the Ages, as well as, the order they are turned in does not matter.

I am cuurently assembling my guild for an extensive survey of the 'Hole'. Perhaps a clue or ten can be found therein.

With out having turned in the Book of Turmoil the Oracle says:

You say, 'What book of Turmoil?'
Oracle of K`Arnon says 'Ah, yes! The Book of Turmoil. I seek this book, and should you find it and return it to me, I will reward you with secret knowledge.

One other interesting bit of information. During my interview with the Oracle I had the misfortune of accidently attacking him (/sigh) This is what he says as he attacks:

Oracle of K`Arnon says 'Come and feel the blade of the Dark Bargainers'.

Interesting as I was under the impression that this faction was associated with the merchants of Neriak. Zones which you can lower the faction in: Neriak 3rd Gate, Neriak Commons, Neriak Foreign Quarter, Nektulos Forest, West Commonlands, Freeport East.

There is also a list of NPCs known to hold with this faction on Illia’s Bestiary, all of which appear to be in Neriak or the surrounding area.

I have also followed up on a two year old post where it was stated that there are NPCs in Paineel who respond to the name Marud. After questioning every NPC in the city, I got only one response, and it was from the Guildmistress of the Necromancer guild. Upon closer inspection though she is only triggering on the words "who is..." and gives the same response for every name even if it is gibberish.

My research continues.

Our numbers grow. It is good to have sincere support in this monumental quest.

Did you kill the Oracle and, if so, what faction hits did you receive?

Perhaps the Book of Turmoil opens the 'need' for the Book of Scale. Did you ask of the Book of Scale as well?

I did not kill the Oracle and the Guardian, though I probably could have. Just in case the Quest does have a solution I did not wish to ruin my faction, so...I let them kill me.

As for the book of scale, yes he does speak of his wish for the book of scale without having the Book of Turmoil turned in.

Have you actually given a "rare" work found on "powerful individuals" as he asks, such as the Book of Turmoil? I know he does not respond to questions regarding Marud, he is still very suspicious.

As for the Oracle and his initial text on the Books Annyhillus, I have spoke with him without turning in a book and he does speak of the Book of Turmoil exactly as you have previously detailed.

The cavern of living stone is clearly a reference to the Hole.
