At the end of the "Orc Belts" quest, Deputy Budo told you to find Marshal Ghobber and tell him, "Am I one with the Wall?" Find Marshal Ghobber at the ground level of the bank in Rivervale.

Your Location is 126.28, -203.77, 7.29

You say, 'Hail, Marshal Ghobber'

Marshal Ghobber says 'Greetings! Allow me to introduce myself. I am Marshal Ghobber Truppack, Marshal of the Great Wall Patrol. Are you [new to the squad]?'

If you have ally standing with Marshal Ghobber (which faction?), you will see the following in response to this:

You say, 'Am I one with the Wall?'

Your faction standing with Guardians of the Vale has been adjusted by -1000.

(This drop in standing appears to be a bug in the quest.)
Marshal Ghobber says 'Yes!! Welcome, Deputy ______! You are now an elite member of the Great Wall Division. Wear this ring with pride. You may take it to Hendi Mrubble of the Clerics of Mischief for healing at any time. Wear it with pride.'

You receive a Squad Ring. Since your faction has been lowered to warmly at least, you cannot repeat the dialogues with Marshal Ghobber.

Find Hendi Mrubble.

Your Location is -230.38, -379.60, -14.71

You say, 'Hail, Hendi Mrubble'

Hendi Mrubble says 'Why, hello there!! Welcome to the Church of Mischief. I am Hendi Mrubble. The 'R' is silent. I am the resident healer of the church, so if you are in [need of healing], or want me to [cure poison] or [cure disease], let me know. If you've got a touch of the crazy brain, I can't do a thing for you.'

When you give her the ring, she gives it back.

Hendi Mrubble says, 'May the swift and silent spirit of Fizzlethorpe Bristlebane smile upon your frail soul.'
You gain experience!

Receive: Squad Ring (recharged)

Must be at least Amiable faction with Hendi. She is on Priest of Mischief faction.

Race specific?
# Dec 28 2000 at 10:28 AM Rating: Default
I'm a High Elf Magician, and I got my RV guard faction all the way up to warmly. I asked the question, and I still didn't get the ring. I guess this is a halfling only thing.

I've edited the post to update it and reduce confusion, since they've added a new level of faction...

Warmly isn't enough faction, you have to be well into Ally. Yes, other races can get the ring. My Iksar monk is a squad ringer.

Nitamous, your post was written before Verant added the "Ally" level in the faction scale so I'm just going to add a correction for those who might be reading this now. Based on other reports seen here, you apparently need to have your faction well into the "Ally" level to get the Squad Ring. That would have been a very high "Warmly" faction level prior to the change, of course.

Any other faction adjustment beside GuardsOfTheVale?

When you complete the quest, does it change any other faction other than GuardsOfTheVale?

The ring

I noticed that long ago... like back in 99 that the ring would not lower your faction very much. I had a halfling warrior with a high warmly faction, I got the ring, then it said I lost faction. But after I used the ring I would get a new one, I bet I went through about 20 rings without losing faction, I guess its a thing they fixed recently?
WTF OVER?
# Nov 10 2000 at 8:05 AM Rating: Default
Conned the Marshall, he conned 'Warmly.' Asked him the question and all he said was "You are in good standing etc...."

I think there is an upper level limit to this quest as I happen to be 35.
RE: WTF OVER? - Upper level limit?
# Nov 20 2000 at 10:24 PM Rating: Default
I am 36 with warmly faction. I got the same message.
RE: WTF OVER? - Upper level limit?
# Nov 27 2000 at 8:37 PM Rating: Good
No...you just have to have faction one step higher than warmly. Took me forever, but I finally got it.

I concur. My friend's 52 druid got it.

I'm not sure it's really one step higher than Warmly. It's just a very, very high level of warmly that you need. I earned my Squad Ring, and yes, I only managed to get the thing after killing one heck of a lot of goblins and orcs, and turning in a HUGE number of goblin beads and orc belts.

I would note that for higher level characters you can probably earn larger faction adjustments by killing the more dangeous mobs in Runnyeye in the Beholder Gorge (minotaurs, evil eyes, etc.). The faction you are seeking is "Guardians of the Vale".

One side benefit of doing this quest is that many of the mobs you kill for this faction also increase faction with Stormguard. That's the faction group associated with the Warriors Guild in Kaladim. By the time I had earned my squad ring I was already able to do quests in that guild for the Bloodforge armor, the Bloodforge hammer, the Scarab armor, and other such things.

Verant recently added the "Ally" faction level which is another faction level above warmly. It's in a range of faction that used to be the top of the warmly scale. You need to be well into the "Ally" faction level to get the ring.

Yes, if you are a higher level character you can do this quest. And yes, you can make it easier on yourself by killing the higher level mobs that give Guardian of the Vale faction. Note that the recent changes in Runnyeye also affected faction groups in the Gorge of King Xorbb. Evidently the Pickclaws took over Runnyeye and kicked out the Evil Eyes who had been allied with the Runnyeye Goblins and that shook the faction tables up up a bit.

the only problem with doing this quest is that it brings your faction back down to ambily so that you can redo the quest,i have reason to belive that the second one is better than the first i earned mine at lvl 21 though
#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 01 2000 at 9:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) wanna know something cool? as a bard i have a song that will make me amiable with just about any faction... kewl huh? :)

Go to Gorge of King Xorb and kill the eyes and minotaurs. These give very large amounts of faction in a smaller time than you would get trying to decimate goblins, and you get a decent amount of platinum per hour doing it.
About Recharging
# Aug 24 2000 at 4:01 PM Rating: Decent
If you are not a Halfling do not plan to recharge the squad ring, you won't have the factio neccesary.
As a Halfling your faction with the Priests of Mischief are naturally higher and you should be Amiable with them allowing you to recharge it.
If you are not a Halfling expect to lose the ring when you turn it in.

So my last words, if you are not a Halfling go ahead and destroy ring after charge, raise faction with Guardians of the Vale, and get another one.

*Another reason why Halflings are better*

I am a Halfling/Rogue. My faction with Hendi Mrubble was 'Indifferent' when I handed her my ring and got it charged. Maybe it's a Halfling thing, but wanted to let everyone know about the faction!

I was able to get my Ring recharged by Hendi Mrubble by using my Cinda's Charismatic Carrilon song (lvl 12) with a Flute to get from Indifferent to Amiable, and she returned the recharged ring to me, saying "May the swift and silent spirit of Fizzlethorpe Bristlebane smile upon your frail soul."

Actually they just put a new quest in to raise Priests of Mischief faction... not sure if anyone wnats to take the time to do it, but its there.

Talk to Beek in the clerics guild.
RE: About Recharging
# Oct 24 2000 at 3:13 PM Rating: Good
does anyone know if indifferent is good enough faction? then rogues could do with the old invis/sneak vendor trick.
RE: About Recharging
# Nov 03 2000 at 1:07 PM Rating: Good
Indifferent will not work. I just did the Beek quest (give him 1 bunch of grapes, one black wolf skin and two ruined wolf pelts) about 8 times. I now have amiable faction with the clerics in RV and I am a human monk from Freeport. Its demeaning work, but VERY easy. The black wolves are everywhere in Misty Thicket and the grapes are found on the ground in the valley by the abandoned tower just outside the RV zone in Misty too (they are just there on the ground, you do not need forage skill!).

Just one question: is amiable good enough faction? Or does it need to be higher? I don't want to have another ring eaten... =)

I am Forje from Torvonnilous, a High Elf Enchanter, and I think this will help everyone recharge their ring:

Take the ring to the cleric's guild in River Vale and right click on Hendi Mrubble. For me, she con'ed indifferent. I cast illusion halfling on myself and she still con'ed indifferent. Next, I tried alliance and Hendi became amiable. I gave her the ring and crossed my fingers... She recharged my ring and gave it back to me.

This quest took a long time for me to finally receive the ring and I accidentally used up it's charge... By reading these posts and making a few guesses I got lucky... It would have been very disappointing if I had lost it... I hope this helps.

Good Hunting!

well, I wasted a week getting faction up high enough to get the ring, only to loose it the first time I tried to get it recharged. GM said I should have read text and engaged in dialogue with Hendi Mrubble, but I've tried that, and no hint as to what I need to do for her to get ring recharged. Total waste of time, time better spent fighting and practicing bind wound or making friends with a cleric. Perhaps if they changed the dialogue to give some idea of what lays ahead when you try to charge ring, others will not get the shock I did.

If you have high "amiably" faction with the PriestsOfMischief, then all you have to do is hand Hrubble the ring and she'll hand you a recharged one back.
enchanter
# Jul 21 2000 at 2:25 PM Rating: Decent
as an enchanter couldn't you just use alliance enough times to get faction up to par?
RE: enchanter
# Sep 01 2000 at 8:52 PM Rating: Default
Alliance doesn't stack.

I started at kindly, and with illusion footstool and benevolence i managed to get the ring. It should be noted...for a ring with a single charge of heal, going from "kindly" to "dubious" is VSF..big time.

if you don't absolutly need the ring, this quest isn't worth it.

faction etc.
# Jul 17 2000 at 3:12 AM Rating: Decent
The faction drop is not a bug, it resets the quest so you can start building towards another ring. You get the ring when your faction passes the "warmly" rating. It then drops down upon receipt of the ring to prevent you from easily getting another quickly.
Faction
# Jul 05 2000 at 2:47 AM Rating: Decent
After completeing this quest on the 1st of July 2000, my faction with the guardians of the vale Dropped from warmly to amiable. The GM's, of corse, did nothing about this, althought they did say it was a bug. So, now I have to work on getting my faction with RV guards back up. At lvl 51, this is quite tedious to say the least.

bandages!
# Jun 30 2000 at 7:46 PM Rating: Excellent
The most useful tip in completing this sometimes endless-seeming quest is to give bandages to Joogl Honeybugger in Misty Thicket. Seems to be around 25pp worth of bandages is the most you can give him for faction related to this quest. Worked for me after hours and hours of killing goblins and orcs in WC.
a long quest
# Jun 15 2000 at 7:07 AM Rating: Good
Spent levels 7-13 in Misty thicket to get enough faction for this ring, but it was worth it for a warrror. The emergency heal has saved me many many times.
