  • Renth McLanis may be found in McDaniels Smokes & Spirits at +370, -280, or via the Find function (he is a Warrior Guildmaster).

    You say, 'Hail, Renth McLanis'

Renth McLanis says 'Hail, ______! Have ye come to train? I train all warriors. All Wolves o' the North must be strong warriors and swift as well. Are ye a young wolf, then? If so, maybe ye can [assist Renth] with his wee problem, eh?'

You say, 'I will assist you.'

Renth McLanis says 'I was ordered by Kylan O'Danos to personally escort a young warrior sent to fetch the remains of his cousin, Ivan McMannus. I forgot and spent me greater time testing out the fine spirits. Now I must find the courier and the remains. Will ye [search for the courier]?'

You say, 'I will search for the courier.'

Renth McLanis says 'Thank ye, _____! Go to Everfrost Peaks and seek out Arnis McLish. Ask him where Megan, the courier, is. Once ye find Megan, would you ask her where Ivan's remains are? Please go, at once!'

  • Arnis McLish may be found in Everfrost Peaks near the entrance ramp to Black Burrow at -1595, -175. He will run eastward to the tree at -1090, -960, attacking monsters along the way.

    You say, 'Hail, Arnis McLish'

Arnis McLish says 'My word!! I cannot believe how cold it is out here. I must keep running around just to keep warm.'

    You say, 'Where is Megan?'

Arnis McLish says 'I heard she got lost on the plains. You should ask her dog, Snowflake, where she is. I hear he is somewhere around the pass to Halas.'

  • Snowflake may be found at +2020, -1160, near Bryndin McMill and Lish McMarrin.

    You say, 'Hail, Snowflake'

    Snowflake says 'Grrrrrr!!'

    You say, 'Where is Megan?'

    Snowflake says 'Ruff.. Ruff.. Woof..'

  • Snowflake will slowly walk away to the east, stopping at the pillars of the tower at (+2045, +3835). Regardless of whether Megan is there or not, he will slowly walk back to the tree by Bryndin McMill. You can make him return to Megan's tower during the return trip by asking asking him again "Where is Megan?"

Megan OReilly stands outside the tower to the right of the pillars at (+2060, -3870) and will frequently walk to the bank of the frozen river at (+2025, -4240). Wandering orcs will sometimes attack her so you might have to wait for her.

    You say, 'Hail, Megan OReilly'

Megan OReilly says 'Brrrr.. It.. Is sooo.. c-cold!! I never.. sh-should've j-joined.. the.. the W-wolves of the N-north!!'

You say, 'Where are Ivan's remains?'

Megan OReilly says 'You were sent to retrieve the remains? I am sorry, I lost them. It was not my fault! There was no escort as I was told. I got lost returning to Halas and ended up on a frozen river. The ice broke and the remains were scattered into the freezing water. Will you [dive for the remains]?'

You say, 'I will dive for the remains.'

Megan OReilly says 'Thank the Tribunal!! I would have, but I cannot swim. Take this chest. Fill it with the four pieces which fell below the surface. I know not what else lies within. When you fill the box and combine the items, return it to Renth. Good luck, ______.'

  • You receive a 4-slot Empty Box, which identifies as "Box For Ivan's Remains."

Southeast of Megan's tower, there is a hole in the frozen river at +1375, -4585; grab an Enduring Breath from someone and go diving. Under the ice are various goblins ("goblin diver" and "ice goblin diver") who are KoS. Three of the pieces of the remains are ground spawns found on the river bottom and look like bags.

    Barbarian Femur: 1405, -4570, -190
    Barbarian Jaw: 1465, -4500, -230
Barbarian Skull: (just north of the jawbone) 1577,-4489,-242

The final item, Barbarian Rib, is dropped by a "goblin diver" found between the spawn spots for the jaw and the skull. Kill it for the final item, a Barbarian Rib.

  • Combine the four items in the box to craft a Box of Remains (identifies as "Box of Ivan's Remains"). Head back to Halas and give Renth the Box of Remains.

Renth LcLanis says 'Good work!! Kylan will never know o' me negligence. I owe ye one, young warrior. Let's call it even with this. Twas found by one of our foraging parties. It is still useful. And... I believe ye can assist with a more [dangerous matter] as well.'

Your faction standing with Wolves of the North has been adjusted by 20.
Your faction standing with Shamen of Justice has been adjusted by 4.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Halas has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with Steel Warriors has been adjusted by 1.
    You gain experience!!
You receive 1 copper from Renth McLanis.

  • You receive a random minor item. The more "dangerous matter" is the quest for the Langseax.

    Need additional rewards, if any.

Love old school. At level 13 this quest still works, even 4 years since someone last post. If you want to save a lot of time, here is what you want to do.

As a note, the items are NOT no trade and can be pre-looted. I followed the script but did not have Snowflake lead the way to Megan since I already knew where she was, as in the above script.

Once at the ice hole, swim NORTH where you will see three ice goblin divers. Stay between the three for the spawns are between the three. The locations are pretty close to what is above, but if someone mentions on the bottom, that is exactly where they are. Need to swim on the very bottom for the jaw (1474.53 -450.18) and the skull (1569.75 -4491.45). The femur (1397.05 -4574.60) is not too far from the ice hole by a long sheet of ice that blocks the way.
You can kill any of the ice goblin divers to loot the barbarian rib. Combine and origin when complete. I received 4 copper, roughly 2 % xp and a throwing axe:
    Base dmg 6, Delay 30 Range 120, ratio 0.2.
This will lead into the next question of " I believe ye can assist with a more (dangerous matter).. Langseax quest.

Looking forward to doing the next one.

The little bags are extremely difficult to see. They are very small and they blend into the background well. I had to swim for quite a while to even notice them and that's even knowing the locs. The locs offered previously are still correct and the femur is higher on the wall than the others, near one of the packed ice pillar type things at the above loc. I killed a few goblin divers to see the drop rate. It seemed to drop almost every time.

    Hope this helps.

I just did the quest several times, the parts needed were never exactly in the same place twice. They were close to where they are listed, but not exactly in the same place. Look around a bit, they will be there.

Also, turning in the quest to Renth, I got a rusty dagger x 1 and the wrist pouch x 2.

Damn skull location is wrong, but just north of the jawbone so it's not too hard to find.

I created toons just to try the old school ways for something different. Did the barbie newbie outfit quest; shammy; and decided for the fun of it to try this. I found Arnis and just asked Where is Megan; hailing got me know where; he does hang by the Blackburrow zone line. If he is not there it is because a bear killed him but is quick to spawn. I skipped finding Snowflake and went straight to Megan. Hailed her; said the dialog posted and got the box. I dove where the hole is; wearing a Lodizal Shell for underwater breathing. Swim down the water abit until you see the 2 Ice Gobbie Diver and the Gobbie Diver between the 2 Ice Gobbies. One of the finds is up on the hill near an ice shelf, 2 are on the floor and one is on the Gobbie Diver as stated in the text. After I found the items I origined back and did the turn in. At level 10 I recieved 5 copper, a copper ring and 1% xp; but killing things in Everfrost got me more xp. Since this is not a quest that shows up in your quest journal you could preloot; and go straigt to megan to get the box.

    You have entered Halas.

Use the Find option to locate the Warrior Guildmaster named Renth McLanis. If you are not a warrior, click off the option "Only show destinations I can use" on the find window.

You will find him in McDaniels Smokes & Spirits at (+368, -278).

    You say, 'Hail, Renth McLanis'

Renth McLanis says 'Hail, _____! Have ye come to train? I train all warriors. All Wolves o' the North must be strong warriors and swift as well. Are ye a young wolf, then? If so, maybe ye can [assist Renth] with his wee problem, eh?

You say, 'I will assist you, Renth McLanis'

    ________

    You have entered Everfrost Peaks.

Arnis McLish is a naked fellow at the south end of the zone near the base of the ramp to Blackburrow. He stands by the tree at (-1595, -175) but will run eastward to the tree at (-1090, -960), attacking and killing most monsters along the way.

    ________

I found Snowflake standing on the other side of the tree at (+2020, -1160), near Bryndin McMill and remote guard Lish McMarrin.

    You say, 'Hail, Snowflake'

    Snowflake says 'Grrrrrr!!'

    You say, 'Where is Megan?'

    Snowflake says 'Ruff.. Ruff.. Woof..'

Snowflake will slowly walk away to the east, stopping at the pillars of the tower at (+2046, +3837). Regardless if Megan is there or not he will slowly walk back to the tree by Bryndin McMill. By the way, you can make him return to Megan's tower during the return trip by asking asking him again 'Where is Megan?'

He killed an ice goblin scout and - sort of surprisingly - a white wolf on his way.

    ____

Megan OReilly stands outside the tower to the right of the pillars at (+2061, -3872) and will frequently walk to the bank of the frozen river at (+2027, -4238).

Good luck, _____.'

You receive an Empty Box (Lore item, small, 4 slot container.)
Item Lore: Box For Ivan's Remains."
    ____

Southeast of Megan's tower is a hole in the surface of the frozen river at (+1375, -4587, -100). Under the ice are goblins ("goblin diver" and "ice goblin diver"). It helps greatly if you are not normally "blind", but better vision is not required. Items you can find on the river floor (little leather baggies) to the north of the hole.

    Barbarian Femur .. (+1407, -4570, -191) Lore Item
    Barbarian Jaw .. (+1464, -4501, -230) Lore Item
    Barbarian Skull .. (+1578, -3388, -243) Lore Item

Between the Jaw and the Skull is a 'goblin diver', kill it for the final item.

Barbarian Rib .. (from the goblin diver at +1522, -4504, -228) Lore Item

The items identify as "Ivan's Femur", "Ivan's Jaw", etc. Combine the four items in the box to create a Box of Remains (Lore item, small).
Item Lore: Box of Ivan's Remains.

    ________

    You have entered Halas.

Give the box to Renth to complete this quest.

Renth LcLanis says 'Good work!! Kylan will never know o' me negligence. I owe ye one, young warrior. Let's call it even with this. Twas found by one of our foraging parties. It is still useful. And... I believe ye can assist with a more [dangerous matter] as well.'

Your faction standing with Wolves of the North got better.
Your faction standing with Shamen of Justice got better.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Halas got better.
Your faction standing with Steel Warriors got better.
    You gain experience!!
You receive 1 copper from Renth McLanis.

I received a Purse (small, 4 slot container).

By the way, this leads to the Langseax quest. He would not give me this quest at Amiable standing, he would give me the quest at Kindly standing.

I've tried this quest twice now and I can't find a single bone or bag on the bottom of the river. I am starting at the first hole I find from the south end of the river. This site says the loc is 1370 but the only hole I found was about 1100. Am I at the right hole and do I head north or south? I keep getting killed by orcs that can somehow go through ice. LOL

I like this quest for exactly the reasons twinkies hate it. it makes u think - like how to kill the goblin that has the rib without being wasted by the orcs on the surface, and the reward is story and faction, not loot. If I'm not grouped, I generally spend all of my time doing quests rather than try to gain EeeePpps. We're not all power gamers.

I have no clue what the Langseax is, but i like quests, esspecailly the ones where I will probably die a couple times. It makes it challenging, and if the Langseax is worth anything, the greedy side of me says take the risk. After all, whats life without risks?

    ANSWER: BORING

if you are the same as me, try the quest, and if not, dont, but whats the point in trying to discourage others that are trying to have fun and play a ROLE PLAYING GAME?
Quick reminder this is a quest that leads to OTHER quests.

Every once in a while I guess it needs to be drummed back into peoples heads.

Not everyone in the world has access to and reads spoiler sites like this one.

The WHOLE purpose of this quest is to act as a lead in for the Langseax quests. Like a LOT of quests in this game, this one opens up the correct NPC(s) to talk to to get to a bigger better item. Often bigger and better than non-twinkies (god please tell me there are a few left) can get otherwise.

So to sum it up. Stop braying like donkeys about how much quests like these suck. If a site like this one didn't exist, then quests like this would be your ONLY way to get information on how to get those Ubber items you drool for.

Faction? ! Yeah ok, take time out of exp earning and do under the ice exploration. Bahhh, the only faction your getting is like killing a gnoll for there fang and turning it in. Same concept, this is a VERY stupid quest, and a total waste of time. Leave this one for a bored hi leved char. Besides they need something to rather than kill all of the mammoths that most other players need for exp. !

It seems that many people don't care for this quest, however, I have 3 out of the 4 pieces (missing the rib) and want to see it through to work toward the Langseax. The only problem I'm having is seeing underwater. I have one of those torches that turn into a giant semi-transparent spiked staff (best way I know to describe the way it looks), and a lantern as well. I was wondering if there is a light source that would work underwater so I could see the bags to finish the quest.

I play Voldmark on the Talis-Thule Server.

Thanks a bunch, I traveled to Queynos and picked up a fire beetle eye, and it worked like a charm. Incidently does anyone know if the torch that you receive from the Goblin ice necklace quest has any purpose of changing to a large spiked, semi-transparent staff looking object? It looks neat, but so far I've found that it only makes people want to inspect you to see that you're holding a torch... (it turns into this when you get into the water while it's equipped, and turns back if you zone or unequip then re-equip the torch).

    Thanks again,
