    You say, 'Hail, Beur Tenlah'

Beur Tenlah says 'Heya, ______! I've been on watch duty all night. Kinda makes a man thirsty, ya know? Why don't you be a good little scamp and run up to the bar and get me a [dwarven ale]? That sure would hit the spot right about now.'

Purchase some Dwarven Ale and give it to Beur.

Beur Tenlah says 'Well, well, well.. It's about time. Whatta ya got, boots fulla stones? Or maybe yer just part turtle? Bah, anyways, thanks for the ale. Maybe I'll buy you one sometime, eh? Bwahaha!'

    You gain experience!!

Harkin Duskfoot says 'Bah! Don't listen to this fool. Listen, I've something a little more important for you to do than buy ales. I need you to take a [message] to my friend Janam over in West Freeport.'

    You say, 'What message?'

Harkin Duskfoot says 'Ok, ______, I need you to take this message to Janam in West Freeport. He is usually hanging out in front of the Theater of the Tranquil with that good-for-nothing Rebby. Anyway, give this note to Janam and bring his reply back to me.'

You receive a Note to Janam. Go to West Freeport and find Janam Rekish at 55.63, -809.15, -129.75 outside the Academy of Arcane Sciences building, northwestern side.

If Prophecy of Ro has unlocked on the server, you can find Janam in Arcstone.

    You say, 'Hail, Janam Rekish'

Janam Rekish says 'Ah, hello there, friend! Me an' Rebby here, we're a just couple o' regular merchants. Though we've got nothin' to sell right now, we'd gladly take any donations. Them's the breaks, I suppose.'

    Give him the note.

Janam Rekish scribbles out a note and says, 'Please make sure that Harkin gets this right away. If you lose it, it could mean both of our heads.'

    You gain experience!!

Harkin Duskfoot says 'Ah, good work, ______. And quick too, I'll makes sure that Elisi hears of your loyal work. Here... take this for your efforts.. it's not much, but it's all I have on me right now.'

Quest text has changed. After turning in the Dwarven Ale and saying "What message?" to Harkin Duskfoot, he replies "Ok, Soandso, I need you to take this message to Janam in West Freeport. He is usually hanging out near the entrance to Arcstone with that good-for-nothing Rebby." etc. as it is now called Arcstone, no longer the Academy of Arcane Sciences.

Can be done at dubious faction, and the turn-in of the Dwarven Ale is not necessary. Saying "message" with Harkin targeted will yield the note needed whether the Dwarven Ale was given to Beur Tenlah.

I think this changes over once Prophecy of Ro unlocks on the server. Before that, Jenam is in West Freeport where the quest says. I'll add a note to look for him in Arcstone if PoR is opened on the server.

3 quests brought me from Indifferent to Amiable with Harkin Duskfoot. After 9 quests, I had received 6 Used Merchants Gloves as rewards, and was still at Amiable.

With the PoR expansion, Harkin moved to live with the SKs and Necros. Invisibility will get you there, but I doubt you can get the quest without agroing many mobs in the area.

Janam is in a fairly safe place, a gully outside the Mage Guild in West Freeport.

This used to be one of the best quests to adjust Freeport factions, but now ...

    Updated locations since PoR:
Harkin Duskfoot: East FP -1406.65, 328.03, -49.35 (Near the SK and Necro trainers in SW corner of zone as said above). You can get close enough to him to talk and turn in if you approach from behind his tent. One dark elf SK will aggro, but she hits for around 82 and only has around 3500hp. Once she's dead, you're safe.

Janam Rekish: West FP 55.63, -809.15, -129.75 (On the NW side, outside of the Academy of Arcane casters guild). Watch for the patrolling militia faction guards and make sure they're out of site before you drop invis.

    Faction hits

Looks like they've added a few more npcs around both the hand-in npcs which makes sneak impossible (unless you seperate the hand in guy, or pacify/harmonise well).

    Anyway, the important information:
I continued to do the two quests until i conned apprehensive to the rogue guildmaster. Counting each faction hit as 'one quest', from this point it took:
6 quests to go from apprehensive to indifferent.
5 quests to go from indifferent to amiable.

Depending on where you look, apprehensive comprises of 100 factions hits, as does indifferent. So, assuming both of the two quests give the same faction hits, this means each quest gives between 20-25 faction to whatever faction the rogue guild is on. I would be suprised if that was different to all the other other factions it gives. So in summary, and for those skim-reading:
This quest gives between 20-25 faction hits to each faction listed.

I began this quest being looked at threatening by all the noc's involved in this quest, and have built up some strategy over the course of it. I am a ranger, and used three abilities that your character may not possess (but you can improvise with your own character to some degree). These include Sneak, innate camoflage (not necessary but useful), and the spell Harmony of Nature. However, this Is manageable with only sneak.

    Risk
First of all, none of the npcs you'll encounter, or have to pass, will see invis. The guards in WFP hit up to about 40 and weren't too dangerous when i screwed up, although the rogue guildmasters in EFP will hit up to 350, no doubt backstab and maybe assassinate. None run fast, summon, or cast, although all of them have high resists to snare and roots.

    First Step
Both Harkin Duskfoot and Nestral TGaza will give you first note when sneaking. However standing behind either mob will not work since both npcs have a second guildmaster beside them.

On Harkin's left is the tunnel leading west eventually to WFP. This tunnel stick out slightly, blocking his view of you. If you turn sneak on (making sure it was successful), you can inch your way along this wall towards him, continually hitting a hotkey of '/say what messages?' until he gives you the note. At which point he will turn towards you (but not see you due to the bump in the wall), and backing off is advised!

Nestral is much easier. For her you need to enter her room (invisible) and target her. Now leave and head back the way you came till you see Harkin infront of you. It is at this point that you can drop invis without either seeing you (too far from harkin, and a wall between you and Nestral), and raise sneak. /say I can go to Janam and Rebby's.

If you don't like this method, there are three others I have that work well. Firstly you can harmonise the surrounding npcs, and then sneak right behind either guildmaster. Another option is to pull the guildmaster to the zone, zone out, invis, come back, and sneak while he/she is moving back to their spot. Lastly, since the items are droppable, you could just have a friend who isn't kos to get the items for you!

I should mention though that no matter what, you will need to con indifferent for the final turn in.

    Second Step
The two npc's you will want to hand either note to are called Janam Rekish and Harkin Duskfoot. They both stand side by side, with a static character called peasant woman, and a wandering guard named Guard Inofus nearby. Personally the peasant woman looked at me amiably (one of the few in FP), though those who she is less fond of should harmonize her before attempting the hand in. Rooting her may also work. Then the task is simple to wait for Guard Inofus to leave, then sneak, drop invis, and give Janam and Harkin their respective notes. They return two items which are again droppable.

    Third Step
This is the most dangerous step as you need to be right by the mob to hand in the item. Dubious works for neither, and Indifferent is enough for both, I haven't checked Apprehensive.

Now you will have to sneak (unless you are a class that can charm/alliance/etc). One option will be to pull the guildmaster from their position, then zone/camp the agro, come back and sneak to the returning guildmaster. In many ways this is safer than the alternative, but takes longer.

The other option is to harmonize the guildmaster and the npc you're turning the item into, then sneak, then hand it in, and then get out before harmonize wears off.

I chose the latter which worked fine all but once. I failed sneak too often and my harmony wore off. So long as you're careful though, both methods work.

    Effect
I went from Threatening to Dubious to the rogue guildmasters in three trips, but stayed Dubious after my roughly next 20. I remained KOS to the Freeport Militia throughout.

This is a long and slow process to get friendly with the faction you're doing it for, though there are no negetive faction hits which therefore makes it a useful quest.

    Hope that all helped.

I'm a lvl 30 Ogre Warrior, I have gone through the tunnels both ways. It gets really annoying when a drowned citizen does the stupid disease thing on you I've almost died from that once, but it is possible to jump it. You can also use PoP now if you have it..? Or the Lucin way. Gates also work having a mage give you a quick lift for a donation. If you want good faction though for all of freeport, goto HighHedge. Kill orcs out front, until high hedge guards like you dubious at least. Then go collect rat ears. But you have to be around the high 25+ about to even start this. But it's definatly the best way I've found to get Freeport Faction. I can go into almost any town. Still working on Clockwork faction though.

No, for the Knights of truth, which means the north freeport guards, do not kill orcs in EC go find Fabian, an npc in east freeport at the Grub and Grog tavern,(number 7 on the eqatlas map). Once you find him, you give him 2gp and it will give you this faction:

+League of Antonican Bards(Bards all around Norrath)
+Queynos Guards(Most of the guards in Queynos)
+Knights of truth(Pally guild and north freeport guards)
    -Ring of scale(Dragons on Kunark)

This is great for any people who want to be able to raise there faction with north freeport guards(and access to bank) and Norrathian Bards. With 600gp you should be able to go from kos to apprehensive or dubious to Knights of truth and kos to amiable or indifferent to bards. Please don't do this quest for Queynos Guards because it is very slow going and you will spend alot of money, kill gnolls instead. If you are kos to freeport, have someone wolf form you for this, or do the invis trick.

Note: If you don't want to stay with bad faction with Kunark dragons, kill gargoyles in Ocean of tears.

Good luck to you all, hope this prevents people form killing a million orcs in EC. :)

I got tired of being apprehensive to the militia and found this quest and the Frikniller Family and the note for Rebby. This is what I did.

First I found Falia in NFP and bound myself there and ran back to EFP and cast Camo (not liked by the evil guildmasters in the tunnels). Then I ran past the guildmasters and hugged the righthand wall till I found Harkin. Now at first I gave his guard the ale but later I skiped that part and just told harkin "What Message" and got his note for Janam. through the door and asked Gren "Who is your sister?", got his note. And out the door and up the ramp, through the door got Nestral's note "I can run to janam and rebby's.". Now gate to Falia, give her the note and get the artifact, run to zone with WFP, run to janam and rebby's at the theater of tranquility. Swap both notes with the proper guy and run to zone with EFP. back to the tunnels, give the returning objects and repeat.

I'm up to indiferent now and will continue until they like me.

actually doing this and the note to reby is one way to get good faction with corrupt guards and vendors and of course the rogues and one of the few ways for anyone kos in erudin.

Of note for those of you who can have a partner help you:

the note to harkin is lore but tradeable and he will take it and give faction hits if he is dubious (you need to have someone who isn't dubious get the note for janam and take the reply back to you in the rogue guild)

rebby's whiskers (different quest but runs the same as this one with nestra close to harkin and janam right next to reby) are stackable/tradeable and can be turned in using the group/invis trick (put whiskers in trade with nestra up to 4 stacks of 4 each at a time, get invised by groupmate, press trade)

at apprehensive to rogues (harkin/janam/reby/nestra) you can do this and reby quest together if you aren't kos to guards, being kos to monks or the peasant woman isn't much of a problem just give the monk guild and the peasant woman a wide berth when you walk up to janam/reby.

if you have a partner with invis and willing to do the footwork and you are dubious to the rogues have them get the notes for janam/reby and bring the harkin notes back to you to turn in and stack up on reby's whiskers. once they have a few reby whiskers (16 is a good number) have them use the group invis method for you to turn in the whiskers to nestra.

I decided to devote some time to getting my faction in Freeport up, so I did these quests. I started out apprehensive to both merchants and guards, after about 50 times I am amiable to merchants, but still apprehensive to guards. This is very tiring and it takes forever especially with the guard faction raises being so insignificant.

    # Jul 11 2001 at 6:47 PM Rating: Excellent
Enter the West Freeport tunnels just South of the gate and run through the tunnels for a long time until you get to a sewer. Pass around that and keep running until you zone into E. Freeport.

Take the left fork, and then the right fork and follow the path until you get to a place with a few shady characters. You're looking for Harkin the dwarf, and when you see him, tell him:

    "What Message"

Harkin will give you a message for Janam.

Then go up the ramp to your left and through a door to find Nestral T'Gaza (a Dark Elf rogue) and tell her:

"I can run to Janam and Rebby's"

She'll give you a note for Rebby.

Now run back to West Freeport through the tunnels and go to the Theatre of the Tranquil, where you'll find Janam and Rebby. Give them the notes and they'll give you items to take back to Harkin and Nestral.

Give the note to Harkin and the rat whiskers to Nestral and you'll get faction.
    - Freeport Militia
    - Freeport Merchants
    - Corrupt Qeynos Guards
    - Rogue Guild

And nothing negative. Do this a couple of dozen times and you'll get much better prices in Freeport.

For people KOS in Freeport, make a mule to do the first part of the quest, and then return with the note and whiskers from Janam and Rebby. Swap characters and hand the items in with the character that you want to build faction with.

To not be KOS, you're looking at anywhere from 20 to 100 trips.

Hire a team of newbies and pay them a plat a trip, and you should be able to get yourself to any faction you like in Freeport.

To get into North Freeport, you need to build faction with the Knights of Truth. They want you to kill Orcs. Lots of orcs. Hundreds of orcs.

What I did was go to Orc 1 in the East Commonlands. There will always be a group camping for XP. Make yourself useful, and you can get faction while you heal, finish off, etc.

People tell me it took 800 orcs to get non-KOS. I wasn't counting. :-)

That stops the N. Freeport paladins from attacking you, and you can bank

I am a DE Necromantress who was dubious to almost everyone is Freeport. First i started to kill Orcs to get a better faction, but you can do it until you are getting black skinned ;))
But while fighting the Orcs i have collected those Orc Pawn Picks (important)!

The faster way is this one: Do both Note Quests, Janam and Rebby are in the same place in W Freeport.

Get the Note of Harkin and that Darkelf and leave the tunnel through the stairs A (see eqatlas.com), walk through the door, up and you will be in building No. 12. On the roof of that building is a guy who conned dubious to me. Go to the North entry of Hallard's Resales (building 17) and give 4 Orc Pawn Picks to Tohsan Hallard. I had usually 6-8 Picks...
After that go to W Freeport, give the note to Janam and Rebby and leave again the same way.
Back in E Freeport leave through the gates and kill Orcs until you have again enough Picks :)
At the gates go into the tunnel and give the Note to Harkin and the Whiskers to the Darkelf. Don't forget to get another note for Janam and Rebby!

I have done this 5 times yet, conning apprehensively to the guy on the roof, but still dubious to the guards. It took me about 2 hours because i carried 6 or more picks and they are quite heavy :)

Hope this helps to get you non KoS in Freeport!

Make a mul char or something to get the whiskers and note. Whiskers stack...don't know about the note though. Just keep getting the whiskers...DON't hand them in. Trade them out to your iksar and then hand them in....Handing in the whiskers is where u get the faction hit.
    Ammount of faction awarded

I finally broke down and made a newbie character to see just how much faction the Janam and Rebby quests awarded.

1 Trip = 1 Letter for Janam, 1 Letter for Rebby

Indifferent - Amiable took 21 trips.
Amiable - Kindly took 13 trips.
Kindly - Warmly took 10 trips.

I don't know if the distance between the higher factions is less, or if they award more faction the more they like you. (could test with an enchanter and Aliance)

FreeportMilitia - Adjustment is slightly less than the Coalition adjustments.
CorruptQeynosGuard - I wasn't going to run to Qeynos each trip to test. ;)
    Best way to raise faction?

Is this the best way to raise faction with guards? I have an Ogre and I need to know the best way to raise faction with freeport. I know north freeport is just mindless orc killing.
What faction is Harkin and Janam on?

I am Iksar SK and am dubious to Militia, but I dont want to get smoked by either person while trying this quest.

I believe they're on the Tradefolk Illegial. =P
    Great for Dark Elves

As a Dark Elf wizard, I started with dubious faction to the merchants and militia in Freeport. After doing this quest 10 times, the militia are still dubious, but the merchants are now indifferent.
    Diminishing returns

When I ran this the first 10 times, I bound myself in front of Harkin and ran to West Freeport. After giving the note to Janam, I gated back to complete the quest. This was a great way to cut down the already short travel time.

I ran this an eleventh time before I looked again for the NPC that gives out the Note for Rebby quest. I then ran both quests 8 times for a total of 27 faction increases. The merchants are now amiable (I was expecting them to hit the next faction level) and the militia are still dubious.

I've decided to look for another way to increase my faction with the Freeport Militia.
    Slow faction for Militia

I did the 3 quests, Note for Janam, Note for Rebby, and Frikniller Family, 9 times for faction
increase of 27. My Guild faction went from Amiable to Kindly, the Port merchants went from
Doubiuos to Amiable (Excellent!), but the Militia stayed at Indifferent. The DF belts are
better for rasing faction with the Militia.
