Rain of Fear Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

This task begins with Welverd Steelbairn (map) in Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness. He's located at 100, 1215, -135. If coming from the Eastern Wastes, pass through the first archway, keep going, pass through the second archway, and hang an immediate right (north). He is outside one of the buildings in this area.

You say, 'Hail, Welverd Steelbairn'

Welverd Steelbairn says 'Do you smell that? The miasma begins to waft through Kael, rising from the corpses that lie unburied. Were it not for the preservative qualities of ice, we would all be choking on the stench of rotting flesh by now. But it is [difficult] to approach the bodies of our fallen brethren in order to bury them.'

You say, 'Difficult?'

Welverd Steelbairn says 'It is not only because of their repellent smell. There seems to be a kind of darkness clinging to the bodies, some feeling that penetrates whoever draws near. I think it must have some relation to the strange [apparitions] that have arrived in Kael.'

You say, 'Apparitions?'

Welverd Steelbairn says 'I struck one down the other day -- one of those twisted dogs. I did not want the meat to go to waste, so I took its body home and cooked it. Even though the meat was burnt, it still tasted raw. Leaving my home later in the evening, I walked near a kromrif's corpse. Crawling around the body were fat, shadowy [worms].'

You say, 'What worms?'

Welverd Steelbairn says 'I had never seen anything like those worms, and I thought I was imagining things. On my way home, I did not see the worms there. The next morning, I ate more of the meat, and I walked the path once more. The corpse still lay on the ground, and the worms had returned. I hid behind a snowdrift and watched as they slowly [disappeared] from my sight, seeming to melt into the snow.'

You say, 'Disappeared?'

Welverd Steelbairn says 'It must be the meat. It gave me a glimpse into a dark world unknown to giants. The discomfort I felt before around the corpses must come from these shadowy worms. If I could somehow banish them from Kael, we could retrieve our dead and give them proper burial. Would you be willing to [deal] with these worms for me? I do not have the heart to face them, as difficult as it is for me to admit.'

You say, 'I will deal with them'

Welverd Steelbairn says 'Thank you. Here is some of the meat I saved from the dead apparition. If you eat it, you will surely see the worms. If you run out of meat, kill and eat more apparitions.'

You have been assigned the task 'Bring Out Your Dead'.

You receive "Apparition Flesh".

The dead in Kael lie unburied, but Welverd Steelbairn wants to change this. To allow the giants to properly care for the deceased, you must kill the shadow worms that have been feeding upon the dead giants.

The shadow worms can be found near corpses of giants. In order to see and fight the shadow worms without causing grave harm to yourself, you must consume the flesh of apparitions.

Receive a piece of Apparition Flesh from Welverd Steelbairn 0/1 (Kael Drakkel)

This is an auto-update.

Kill 6 soul scavengers 0/6 (Kael Drakkel)

Kill 2 giant soul eaters 0/2 (Kael Drakkel)

With the Apparition Flesh self-buff on you (4-minute duration), engage and kill soul scavengers and soul eaters around the corpses of giants. You need the buff to do this, or you will be DT'd.

You can kill other apparitions to pick up more flesh clicks as you need them.

Return to Welverd Steelbairn 0/1 (Kael Drakkel)

(Optional) Kill apparitions of dragons, coldain, and other creatures to gain more flesh pieces 0/20 (Kael Drakkel)

I just killed a few of both mobs on the Aradune TLP as a 99 druid and 99 paladin box combo.

My first attempt went less than stellar because I didn't bother looking into the quest at all, and discovered the DT when the otherworldly vision buff faded. I thought it strange to have this be so hard and noticed my druid didn't have any spells land. For my next attempt, I parked the mobs on top of my druid, and everything landed. I then proceeded to kill a few of the mobs within the 6-minute otherworldly vision buff duration. I did not bother dispelling the melee and spell casting slow because it is reapplied almost as soon as its duration ends. Not worth the cast time to cure, but feel free to use radiant cure or some other fast-casting AA cures if you want.

So Important note: THESE ARE BELLY CASTERS Get under them if you expect to do caster damage to them. Due to this, I'd recommend melee mercs unless you can trap your caster merc against the wall to get it in melee range for nukes.

Some additional notes that should probably be added to the quest for the mobs and probably to the mob pages. I pulled these lines from my combat log.

A soul scavenger
Between 525k - 800k HP
Summons: Yes
Abilities:
A soul scavenger begins casting Crystalwing Husk. -- 40% spell dmg spell shield (very easy to blow through)
A soul scavenger begins casting Wildether Barrage. -- A random nuke that is either fire, cold, or magic. Nothing scary I resisted most.
A soul scavenger begins casting Otherworldly Secretions. -- Spell and Melee slow. 20 corruption counters. Short Duration. Cast often.
A soul scavenger begins casting Skullfreeze. -- Nuke with agro reduction component. Not enough to cause big agro issues.
A soul scavenger begins casting Deadly Crossover. -- The Death Touch. Don't let the buff from eating the flesh fade or you will get hit with this.

A giant soul eater:
Roughly 2 million HP
Summons: Yes
Wild Rampages
Abilities
A giant soul eater begins casting Crystalwing Husk. -- 40% spell dmg spell shield (very easy to blow through)
A giant soul eater begins casting Wildether Barrage. -- A random nuke that is either fire, cold, or magic. Nothing scary I resisted most.
A giant soul eater begins casting Otherworldly Secretions. -- Spell and Melee slow. 20 corruption counters. Short Duration. Cast often.
A soul scavenger begins casting Skullfreeze. -- Nuke with agro reduction component. Not enough to cause big agro issues.
A giant soul eater begins casting Spiritual Devouring. -- HP and Mana drain. Not that terrible on either at level 99.
A giant soul eater begins casting Deadly Crossover. -- The Death Touch. Don't let the buff from eating the flesh fade or you will get hit with this.

Really it's TRUE !

This is what you get when you visit a pathetic site that for years now really bites the dust.. Back in the day, it was a site I used extensively now, I rarely try to use and here are the reasons.
1. TONS of wrong, missing, and misinformation
2. TONS of errors that started back over 5 years ago that still have not been corrected, ex: go to the # j % I MMGH , wtf is that?
3. LIVE support almost completely nonexistent.

They want you to believe the site is player generated or updated or whatever they have in their mind to coerce you into believing.
There seems to be absolutely zero review of any posts butt, you can bet this post will be reviewed and deleted!

I also have noticed that a TON of info on various quests, that I have done many times before, has been deleted. Ex: kill 6 giants or whatever but absolutely zero indication of where in the zone those mobs can be found, and on most, I remember at 1 time they did state a general location.

Years ago, I did maintain a subscription but, now I wouldn't donate 1 cent.
NOT A WAY TO OPERATE A SITE. IF CAN'T BE OPERATED PROPERLY WITHOUT EXCUSES THEN THIS ALMOST TATALLY WORTHLESS SITE NEEDS TO FOLD AND DISCONTINUE WASTING PLAYERS TIME!!!!!!
Really it's TRUE !

Did you have the Apparition Flesh self-buff on you when you were getting resisted?

You get more Meat by killing "Twisted Prowlers" the ugly wolves that guard the bodies. It's a random cursor thing so in my group of 4 toons each kill gave meat to 2-3 toons.

I Stocked up until each toon had 6 of the meat things.
MERCS

It appears to be affected by your extended duration of beneficial spells effect (usually on your back item). Using a level 95 back item as a level 100 toon, it extends the time to 6m 50s.
Soul Scavengers?

I only ever see Giant Soul Eaters. I have yet to find any Soul Scavengers.

Kill the red ones, and they will often respawn as gray.

They are kinda uncommon to find but the spot we found them before (and I just checked by getting the quest again) is the corpse outside the arena on the right side (east) which had 2 soul scavengers both times. Basically, go to the arena area and follow the right wall to the corpse. Good luck!

Mobs dispel themselves if hit by someone without task

The DT seems to only land if you're doing the task and you don't have the Otherworldly vision on. If you don't have the task, you get stunned constantly if you're on agro. And, when you do hit the mob (if you don't have the task), the mob completely dispels itself.
a couple spoilers

A couple notes:

Everyone in the group needs to click the apparition flesh when fighting the souleaters and it was a 6 mnute timer
You may click on another flesh to reset the time and seems to be somthing you can do continuously
From a distance only tash seems to land. All other spells i needed to be melee range and closer to land (mage and chanter at least)
Mob is slowable and souleaters dont seem to aggro off each other so didnt need to split when pulling the two that spawn close to each other.

Easy Enough
# Dec 06 2012 at 12:21 AM Rating: Decent
At first this seem like some really tough mobs with the slow casting spell it hits you with. Doing this task as a Necro I fund it easy enough
one I figured out an easy method to kill these buggers. I just loaded up all my swarm pet spells and just chained casted them all till it was dead
I was able to get two kills in the time duration of the unworldly sight spell.
Keep sight up

Make sure you don't let your Otherworldly vision fade otherwise your get hit with a 325k damage spell.
