Rain of Fear Information & Guides: An Overview | Group Progression & Task List | Raid Progression | Visible Armor

This is the first task in a series of three. It is a solo task that begins with Captain Bvellos (map) in the bank of Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness. He is found inside the bank at /location -300, 1420, -195 (the bank is in the center of the city).

Pre-Requisites:
- Level 85
- Must have at least indifferent faction with Dragon Death Keep (kill frost giants and/or apparitions to increase it)

You say, 'Hail, Captain Bvellos'

Captain Bvellos says 'Halt! As a captain commissioned by the authority of King Tormax, I ought to remove you from the city immediately, or kill you where you stand. You have heard his orders have you not? All mercenaries have henceforth been barred from entering Kael Drakkel. But we both know decrees pronounced in citadels are rarely heard or regarded in alleyways. I have seen your kind skulking in dark corners -- I have [seen] many things as of late.'

You say, 'What have you seen?'

Captain Bvellos says 'Mercenaries coming and going, couriers rushing about, concealing heavy bundles. Strange apparitions appearing -- just last night I stabbed my father through the heart as he tried to tear off my skin with his teeth. And he has been dead for twenty years. No sooner had I plunged my dagger into him than he disappeared into the night like a mist. Nothing has seemed real since we received these new [weapons] from Tormax's court.'

You say, 'What weapons?'

Captain Bvellos says 'These blades, glowing with power -- surely they have some connection with the madness that has gripped the king and suffused the city. Shortly after the kromzek received these new weapons, King Tormax made his mad decrees. Mercenaries were expelled from the city, living visions began to haunt the citizenry, coldain and dragons made incursions into the city, and the kromzek were ordered to regard the kromrif with suspicion, watching them for evidence of their hand in the strange events. Now I have seen [couriers] rushing throughout the city. Wherever they stop, more apparitions and unrest appear.'

You say, 'Couriers?'

Captain Bvellos says 'I have my suspicions about who they are working for, but I need proof. I cannot easily raise my hand against them lest it draw outrage from the king. As much as I dislike it, I need mercenaries such as you. If you are [willing], waylay any couriers you see, and bring what they are carrying. If I can trace the origin of these new weapons, perhaps I can put an end to the madness that has descended upon Kael.'

You say, 'I am willing'

Captain Bvellos says 'Hurry. I do not want to meet my father again in this life.'

You have been assigned the task 'Deliver Us Unto Evil'.

Captain Bvellos believes the new weapons given to the giants of Kael are somehow the cause of the chaos in the city. He has asked you to track down the source of the weapons.

Kill the couriers wandering throughout Kael and find any evidence they are carrying.

Steal the goods that the couriers in Kael are carrying 0/4 (Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness)

Loot Fearforged Daggers from "a courier" that wanders the zone (note: the couriers do not have faction hits).

Find evidence on the couriers that reveals their distribution source 0/1 (Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness)

Kill another courier and loot a Note From Svekk.

Deliver the stolen weapons to Captain Bvellos 0/4 (Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness)

Captain Bvellos says 'These are the weapons you recovered from the couriers? Then it is as I thought. The weapons are still being distributed throughout the city. If you have any further evidence of who commands the couriers, let me see it.'

Show Captain Bvellos the note from Svekk 0/1 (Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness)

Captain Bvellos says 'Svekk Fangbinder, Wenglawks's lackey -- I should have guessed. Did you read this note? Apparently Svekk has been hiring mercenaries to smuggle materials into Kael, which are then used to forge the new weapons. Being a mercenary yourself, perhaps you could offer your services to Svekk. Convince him to send you on a smuggling run. Discover where the materials are coming from, and where they are delivered. Once I know, I can move against Svekk. Kael will yet be returned to its equilibrium!'

Ask Svekk Fangbinder if you can work for him 0/1 (Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness)

Task Window Says: According to the note you found on a courier, Svekk Fangbinder has been coordinating shipments of material entering the city and the forging of weapons. Captain Bvellos suggests you offer your services to Svekk as a smuggler, so you can discover more about the operation.

Svekk Fangbinder (map) is at /location 155, 1950, -191 (in a building in the northwestern part of the city's center - this is northwest of the bank).

You say, 'Hail, Svekk Fangbinder'

Svekk Fangbinder says 'What? You wish to deliver goods for me? It's certainly bold of you to stride around Kael in daylight when the king's threat hangs over your head. I can use someone like you. I want you to have a talk with my contact in the Eastern Wastes, Drjek. He has a delivery that needs to enter Kael unnoticed.'

Tell Drjek that Svekk has sent you 0/1 (Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening)

Task Window Says: You have been hired as a smuggler, working for Svekk Fangbinder. Drjek in Eastern Wastes has a shipment for you to pick up.

Drjek (map) is found in the northwestern part of Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening at around -4380, 4045, 143 (about halfway between Kael and the giant fort).

You say, 'Hail, Drjek'

Drjek says 'Delivery? I do not have time to worry about such things with these greedy coldain marauders attacking our operation. Take care of them, and then we can talk!'

Kill 3 coldain marauders 0/3 (Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening)

Task Window Says: Coldain marauders are attacking Drjek's outpost. You must defeat them before you can pick up the shipment.

Kill the Coldain marauders fighting the orcs Drjek.

Speak with Drjek 0/1 (Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening)

Task Window Says: Now that it is safe, tell Drjek you are ready to transport the shipment.

You say, 'Hail, Drjek'

Drjek says 'Well, you look a whit healthier than the last whelps Svekk sent me, and you did handle those coldain admirably. This is the largest sliver of crystal I have yet acquired. Deliver it to Wevek Redforge -- he is waiting for it to forge another set of weapons for the kromzek. Oh, and if you see any of my other delivery agents on your way, go ahead and kill them. Finish their deliveries for them. I know they are stealing from us! I think you are the only one I can trust! But If I find out otherwise...I might have to deliver everything myself.'

You receive a shipment of crystal.

(Optional) Steal small slivers of crystal from untrustworthy smugglers 0/4 (Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening)

(Optional) Deliver the small slivers of crystal to Captain Bvellos 0/1 (Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness)

Head to Wevek Redforge and confront anything that impedes your progress 0/1 (Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness)

Kill 2 hostile apparitions 0/2 (Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness)

Task Window Says: Drjek has told you to deliver a large crystal sliver to Wevek Redforge. Drjek also said he doesn't trust most of his smugglers. If you see any, kill them and deliver their goods to Captain Bvellos for examination. The large crystal you are carrying has the potential to generate nightmarish creatures. If this happens, kill the creatures.

For the optional steps, smugglers can be found in the canyon leading to Kael Drakkel. Kill them until you have looted 4x "Small Sliver of Fear", then give those items to Bvellos.

Note that the two apparitions will spawn on you at a random time after you re-enter Kael. You can just stay at the zone-in area and await their spawn or chance making your way through the city. They each hit for a max ~13,000; AE rampage; cast "Crippling Contusion"; and have about 2.7 million hitpoints each. They are known to be rootable and mezzable, and they do not summon.

Crippling Contusion: Targeted AE 25', Magic (-940)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 27000
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 8000 per tick (3 ticks)
3: Decrease Attack Speed by 50%
4: Increase Curse Counter by 25

Wevek Redforge (map) is found at location 250, 850, -130. If coming from the Eastern Wastes, pass through the first archway, keep going, pass through the second archway, and hang an immediate right (north). He is in a building in the northeastern part of this area.

Upon turning in the optional element:

Captain Bvellos says 'So this is what the mercenaries have been sneaking into Kael? By the power of Zek, what malevolence emanates from these crystals? I feel the world growing smaller and darker just holding one in my hand. If blades are being forged with this material, it is no surprise why insanity has descended upon Kael.'

The other steps update upon the deaths of the hostile apparitions.

Deliver the large crystal sliver to Wevek Redforge 0/1 (Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness)

Ask Wevek Redforge what he knows about the crystal deliveries 0/1 (Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness)

You say, 'Hail, Wevek Redforge'

Wevek Redforge says 'Are you feeling alright? You look pale. Most mercenaries who bring me supplies arrive looking nervous and haggard. You are no exception. ' As Wevek takes the large crystal sliver from you, his gloved hands tremble, and his eyes reflect the purple light of the crystal. 'I hate these things. How much strife has rung throughout this city with every blow of my hammer against the anvil? But I cannot stop forging the weapons that will bring ruin upon my brethren. They will not let me...'

Wevek Redforge says 'No, do not make me say who it is that compels my work!'

Drjek says 'Silence, Wevek! Not another word to these pack mules! Do you want Wenglawks to hear that your mouth has been more active than your hammer?' Drjek glowers at you. 'It looks like you did your job, but remember my words: Do what you are told and do not ask questions, unless you want to end your days in a block of ice.'

Wevek Redforge says 'Apologies, Drjek. My hammering will be the only sound you hear from me.'

Tell Bvellos what you learned from Svekk Fangbinder 0/1 (Kael Drakkel: The King's Madness)

Task Window Says: Drjek threatened Wevek Redforge, and in the process revealed that Wenglawks Kkeak is involved in creating the malevolent weapons. Inform Captain Bvellos of what you have learned.

You say, 'Hail, Captain Bvellos'

Captain Bvellos says 'Wenglawks has been coordinating the shipments of crystal and the forging of weapons? I have suspected he might be involved, but now I have proof. His treachery will not escape punishment much longer! You must relay this information to Rejnak Coldspear, Fjokar Frozenshard's retainer. He has been investigating some additional leads, and your discoveries will undoubtedly assist him. Perhaps soon I will be able to sleep without my sword at my side.'

You have discovered Wenglawks Kkeak has been coordinating deliveries of crystal shards and the forging of weapons. Speak with Fjokar Frozenshard's retainer, Rejnak Coldspear, and see if this information will aid his investigation.

If more than one person has quest, the apparitions will respawn. beware. I was 101 doing this so I was just tanking both but was tired of killing them and didn't waste time on the third that poped, i zoned out. They have a lot of HP!!

Your faction will fix quite quickly if you just kill the coldain and the other fear mobs in KD.
Waste of time
# Jan 05 2013 at 8:04 PM Rating: Decent
This task turned into a complete waste of time. 2 mobs that spawn and attack even when invis'd. They hit for up to 13k and do an AOE for about 18k and I think that puts a dot on yah for just over 5k. After 12 deaths just trying to kill the 2 mobs after re-entering kael i dropped the quest and said not for me. What a nightmare and a massive headache. ***** this
Waste of time

I went into this quest just to get to where the above post said (then planned to ask for help). I payed for EQ years ago but have been on a few hours a weekend here and there since it went FTP and stayed silver just because i don't have the time to play to make gold worth it. Well EQ did that "have 15 days of gold for paying 2 years ago" just a few days ago so i figured i would grab a J5 healer and give this a try. I am a 96 necro currently in all attuneable RoF gear + 2.0. 1811 AA at the time of posting with most AA in DoT crit and pet. I waited at the entrance with healer buffs and fortify on my 92 warrior pet. They popped near the kromirf recruiter so i PP'd one around the corner and pulled the other to the quest giver at the zone in. The HP estimate is right about 2.7 mil. Fight took awhile. Dot was a ***** but with lifetap i saved the merc some Mana. Was able to use 3rd spire once and anguish robe twice between the 2 mobs. when i felt PP was about to break i ran and hit the 2nd mob again. All in all if you are a necro you can do this. Make good use of FD obviously.

A thing to note. About 40% into the 2nd mob a 3rd one popped so i had to PP it away and pull a bit down the ramp to LoS the new mob. After my 2nd one died i just levanted and waited for the 3rd to depop. Not trying to put down the poster above but this is not a waste of time. Doable for a necro for sure and possibly mages too who knows! While i know this post is not going to help 95% of the classes out there it may help those adventurous solo classes or groups that don't have a chanter for mez. As stated, i found parking one around the corner with root to be very helpful.

Shortly after I zoned in, the 2 apparitions spawned. Lots of hp. When I killed one, another spawned. I zoned after killing the 2nd one. When I zoned back, it was still there. Killed it without others respawning. So, I ultimately had 3 apparitions spawn (2 toons doing the task).

The two adds can be snared, rooted....and they dont summon. They do however cast a very nasty dot, so keep that in mind if you try and root rot or kite them. Also, if you lose agro on one of the pair (even by killing one) a second will respawn soon. Altho shaking agro on the new spawn seems to be fairly easy, and there must be a timer built in because did not see another replacement spawn before the second kill.

If you zone in and stay near the zone line it will take about one minute for both to spawn. If more than one of you has the mission, zone in and kill one apparation, very soon another (third one) will spawn. Was low mana so we zoned after killing one, medded, went back and there was 2, killed it, zoned and since both kills were made we did not get any more. They can be rooted.

Just did this quest and I'd like to note that when we got to this part, we used our campfire to come back into Kael. This turned out to be a bad idea as both mobs had spawned right on top of us as soon as we entered the zone. Once we knew that was going to happen, we could be prepared and it was less of a concern.

Careful with this quest.. after you go talk with Drjek and are returning to Kael... once you zone in you need to be on your guard for the 2 mobs that will ambush you. I recommend hanging out at the zone-in area until they show up, otherwise adds can get out of hand.
