I think this quest is broken, I can't find scrap metal on ANY of the clockworks in Steamfont, Sanfred does say that he was banned from taking scrap metal, but he says to still bring it to him. Hope they fix it, I need faction with Merchants

i had like 5 stacks of scrap metal and i decided to give them to him i got 4, 10 slot bags 2 glow rods and some other things i couldn't remember:)and the rest of the other stacks i just gave em away to newbs.

What do you mean you can't find the guy???
If you know where the necromancer's guild is(the maze area) you can find the guy.
if you dont know where the necro's guild is, get a map.

Well. When I attempted to turn in the 4 scarp metal things, it junked 'em all and said he doesnt know what to do with them. So I decided to hail him and he said he wasn't allowed to accept scrap metal anymore. Does that mean this quest is broken or am I not doing something right???

If you go to near to where the Necro guild is, (hidden in the mines) at the very back of the city, there is a waterfall and from the path you can go into the mines for the Necro and Rogue guild etc. OR on the other side of the water is a platform that has 2 gnomes on it. One of them is Sanfryd. Give him the scrap metal 4 at a time for xp and some odd things like a glowrod that I got but haven't looked at yet and a tinmeizer box (haven't got that yet). I'm a 16th Necro and never had a faction problem with him right from the start.

I am a gnome necro and was wondering if I did this until I got a glow rod (no real reason I want one) if I would ruin my faction with my dark reflection people. I don't want to be kos to my own people.

im a lvl 9 necro and i kill kill kill rogue clcokworks near the mino cave so what i do is give scrap metal to newbies because i found that it gives great exp for lower lvls havng made my character lvl twice

You can also get the Bootstrutter's Framed Pack for this quest. It is a 10 slot no drop backpack that offeres a 25% weight reduction. Very cool!

Thats wrong, inorder to get the Bootstrutter's Framed Pack you have to go to the Warrior guild and this one guy, sorry can't remember the name, tells you to seek out some clockworks of the C series for their Blackboxes. He gives you a card. After getting all those, which is easy but just takes time, he gives you back a box which you must take to Jugl something or other, he hangs around the mills and is hard as anything to find. Can't remember from there but if you get that far you should be able to finish it.

go to entrance of mines (of malfunction) at northernmost end of akanon; don't enter mines but if facing them turn 180 deg (west) and swim to nearest land.
