At the Tagglefoot farm, hail Shakey the Scarecrow, and one of the Leafsway NPCs will comment that Shakey isn't himself lately. There are two quests out of this: the head and the stuffing. The druid tells you that they have no idea what can be done to fix Shakey's head, and asks you to [research] the problem. There is an NPC on the top floor of the Erudin Library who has a document on the creation of Scarecrows, and she's willing to let you have a peek for the mere pittance of 2 platinum. When you give her the 2 pp she gives you a copy of a page torn out of a book and tells you that a female Teir'Dal (dark elf) was the first person to create a scarecrow head. From the information on the page it sounds like she is trapped in Mistmoore. If you identify the scroll it says "copy of miragul's scarecros research." I'm not sure where this goes.

Indications on the EQLive forums are that this quest will be fixed and finishable in the near future. Stay tuned. When it does get fixed, please supply logs of dialogues, names of quest items and combines, and trivials and faction hits where possible.

Tried this today for old time's sake. Hailed Shakey and repeated "Skakey" and "Who is Shakey?" when Reebo replies but nothing happens. Are they finally fixing this Shakey's Head quest or have they totally abandoned it?

solved by the rogue community enough to complete rogue epic 1.5, though there is still some work to be done if scarecrow illusion mask really exists:

it's been fixed and solved, it's now being used as a sub-quest for one of the new epics, more specifically the rogue one
Frightful Carved Pumpkin
# Sep 16 2004 at 1:09 PM Rating: Decent
I found this as a ground spawn in the Unrest maze after OoW went live (doesn't necessarily mean it was added with OoW--I just hadn't seen it before):

Frightful Carved Pumpkin
Magic item--Lore item--No drop
Wt.: 1.0 Size: Large
All/all

Of course I thought of Shakey's head. Anyone know what this item is for or if it is related to the long-unfinished quest?

I went back and started the quest from the beginning, but nothing is new in Rivervale or the Library in Erudin.

From EQ Druids and SoE:

I am a little upset about some unfinished quests still in the game. My example is the "Shakey's Head" quest that starts in RiverVale. I am just upset that this has been in the game since the beginging, and still hasn't been fixed! I am just curious if any one else knows of any quest that seem unfinished, broken, or just perhaps don't make much sence. My hope is that perhaps that if we bring enough strength on this subject that they might get fixed.

Some people fight, some people pray. Some hurt, some heal. Some are dark some are light. Amidist all of this though is simple yet perfect harmony...

Whenever the topic of unfinished quests comes up, Shakey is often the first example that gets mentioned. You'll be happy to know the "Shakey's Head" quest is already being worked on. We've taken the time to fix some long-standing unfinished quests (The progressive class quests from Cabilis most recently) and will continue to do so in the future.

Update

I just got a confirmation from a GM on Firiona Vie... this quest is indeed broken, and there are no immediate plans to repair it. The Tier'Dal in question is Tserrina of TOFS, confirmed from two document sources, one from Reebo, the other from a newspaper from Neriak. Too bad, would have been a hoot to complete!

The person mentioned in the note is indeed Tserinna, the lord of the ToFS. But I'm note sure how this would help with this quest...
Has anyone ever tried to give the note to Reebo?
He is telling this:

Quote:

Reebo Leafsway says 'We have heard of a great forbidden tome penned by an evil necromancer that holds the secrets of instilling life into scarecrows. We have recovered pages from that book. That is how we know about Shakey's hay. But the pages detailing the creation of a scarecrow's head are missing. We believe that the Erudites possess at least some of the pages and might know where the rest of them may be found. Start your search in their city of Erudin.'

I was skimming through Vale quests and saw this, took a peek. It says something about Mayong Mistmoore or something. Well, I saw on a rogue board that Mayong Mistmoore is an actual PC. From the Verant team or something, he brings his character out like twice a year and goes postal on everything... Its uber too 8) Don't know if its been said or its correct its just something I thought i'd pass along.
New Theory
# Mar 20 2002 at 8:42 AM Rating: Default
Ok. Been meaning to post this theory here for quite a while and to provide some additional information.

The note from the library in Erudin does not give a name as to whom in Mistmoore is supposed to be the next step. The only thing it mentions is something about "She was completely under Mayong's control".

Theory: After going to Mistmoore and examining the tracking list, there is really only one NPC that I can think of that would logically be the next step... Princess Cherista. Under her description in the bestiary, someone does, indeed, mention she drops something, but nobody knows much about it. An "illegible scroll".

New Info: While doing the Soulfire Quest on my paladin many, many moons ago, I came across a gnome NPC in Freeport. The Seafarer's Roost is where he spawned. I would caution anyone reading this, since the gnome also *despawns*. The gnome pops up at the bar (1st floor) on the side that does NOT face the doorway. Tykar Renlen is a beggar that that sometimes spawns in the exact same location, so if you see him you have the correct location.

Why is this gnome important? Because if you hail him he explains that he will take all those "illegible scrolls" and make them legible.

Hope this helps.

The illegible scrolls he takes are dropped from orc apprentices, this little bugger spawns in a lot of places, even seen him in hhk, all he does it collect illegible scrolls, dropped by orc apprentices

This is used in making armour dye (by rogues or shamans). Makes a yellow dye, I believe. Not that it still can't be used in the quest, but I thought you would like to know it already has a purpose.

Mushroom
# Sep 15 2001 at 8:13 PM Rating: Default
In Estate of Unrest i found a mushroom on a Jack-O-Lantern called Jaok-O-Lantern Fungus. Could this possibly be mixed with some other component to complete the head? maybe i could find a magic pumpkin somwhere and throw them in a forge with a few metal bits......ok maybe not. But i think this fungus is probably used in this quest...
RE: Mushroom

Actually Jack-O-lantern fungus is used to make yellow armor dye, although it could be possible that it is also used in the quest I highly doubt it.

Ok, been folllowing this for a LONG time like many others, the scroll described above that dropped in MM is for a iksar monk quest in Cablis (idents correctly). The newest lead I have on this is the various rambalings of Tserrina, lord of TOFS. She comments on Mayong, and various things about thier relationship... sort of fits the erud scroll decriptions of a woman in Mayong's thrall. Just a possible lead.

ok 1. how did you get in to Erudin 2. that illusion is for cleric or is it rouges only one of those not troll sk so it is a waiste of time. But you probelly figuerd it out and are not returning to this page any who. Hopefully you will
Mistmore
# May 16 2001 at 3:22 PM Rating: Default
I have been following this quest for some time but nothing yet has developed, until now. I was in Mistmore castle with my 39 troll sk and we happened to kill an asst. librarian in one of our pulls. Remembering the reference to Mistmore from the page that you get in Erudin I took it upon myself to loot the corpse. On the corpse was "an illedgable scroll" all/all magic lore no drop which had an origional item icon of an unrolled scroll with silver pieces at the tips. I right clicked on the scroll but it was not readable.

I would love to try and give this scroll to Rebo but alas I am a troll. I have no idea where the asst librarian spawned because I was not doing the pulling but there is one room in the castle that appears to be a library(look for the room that is full of book shelves *duh*).

If an adventurous person of good alignment could give this a shot I think we may have a good lead. Im thinking of doing a quest in Neriak that involves a single use mask that turns you into a halfling (*shudders*) as per the halfling illusion spell and then turning in the scroll. If faction is an issue in this quest, and im willing to bet that it is, then I think it would be a waste of time.

The mask is cleric/shaman only.

Wolf form, however, would work in Freeport 8 )
#Anonymous, Posted: May 13 2001 at 5:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) When Verant bought who was it? 989 Studios...didn't they notice that the game is called Ever QUEST!! As in there are QUESTS that are done. Yes, multiple quests so the various levels can do them, get exp and items. The noob lamer quests are all working..wonder why...may be it's like a crack dealer...first month is free...easy to do.....then after level 30 we give you a nice dogsh*t taco for a quest untill you're in the low 50's assuming it's not yet another broken quest. Maybe they misunderstood what was meant by Everquest..thinking: Don't fix the quests...then they won't have anything to do!

This was confirmed as unimplemented by Verant on the Sony boards. Whats her name... Jester Tester chica had it confirmed for everyone. Go Verant!

"All quests are fixed.
Doh. Might be a few we missed.
Quest that are halfway completeable but unable to be finished are called unimplemented.
Unimplemented is very different from broken.
All quest are fixed!"

Isn't miragul that erudite necromancer that turned himself into a lich and is now trapped in the lich's body and can't do anything about it? I can't remember where I heard that storry. "DOH!" *slaps himself*
RE: The lich
# Jun 19 2003 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent
Miragul has othing to do with this quest. It's to do with MAYONG MISTMOORE, who is some Vampire guy living in faydwer. Miragul is not Mayong Mistmoore.

Yeah, in everfrost. He is also used for Fiery Avenger quest. Perhaps someone should try taking the page along when a paladin goes to hand in the stuff for the FA. because you have to charm him to hand those items over anyway...hmmm

I been searching this one a while now, no sure where to go, to make sure I was on the right track I have gone through the steps of it, and the note mentions someone in the thall of mayong, and talks about trapping a soul in a golem of straw. This quest has been in the game as long as I can remember, so it should link to pre kunark and pre-armor quest mobs.
