    This is a shared task (1-6 players) that begins with Director Idris Manaar (map) in Shard's Landing. He is located at 255, 35, 1 (Harbinger camp among all the other NPCs).

    NOTE: The lock point for this task is on your last kill step (before you "report back" to the Director).

    You say, 'Hail, Director Idris Manaar'

    Director Idris Manaar shrugs, 'You survived your introduction, very well. Give me the word when you are [ready] to undertake a small excursion. I suggest you bring allies with you for this.'

    You say, 'I am ready'

    Director Idris Manaar says 'Very well, we are always in need of samples. This will be the same as your previous excursions. Feel free to enlist the help of allies. Compensating them for their help is entirely on you though...'

    You have been assigned the task 'Conquering Your Fears'.

    Despite their best efforts the Shardtenders are unable to keep the Shard of Fear completely intact from deterioration and so much of its power is slowly draining into the landing.

    Director Idris Manaar has instructed you to travel to three of the living nightmares of three notable Velious residents and obtain several fear shard crystals. These crystals will be used in the construction of a device to channel the escaped spirits of fear so that they can be returned to the Heart of Fear.

    Travel to the Feartouched Eastern Wastes 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

    Kill several native animals 0/6 (Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening)

    Any animal mob native to the Eastern Wastes (except snow bunnies) counts towards this step: Mammoths, rhinos, wolves, cougars, etc.

    Obtain a Dim Fearshard from a native animal 0/1 (Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening)

    Loot this item from a corpse (this is a guaranteed drop if you are on the step).

    The image of a screaming banshee overtakes your thoughts as you recover the fearshard.

    Kill several manifestations of fear 0/4 (Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening)

    >Any fear mob in the zone (samhains, Amygdalans, spinechiller spiders, fear shardlings, etc.) counts towards this step. Note that fear mobs are more sparse than their animal counterparts. Fear mobs tend to be found in the outer parts of the zone.

    Obtain a Faded Fearshard from a manifestation of fear 0/1 (Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening)

    Loot this item from a corpse (this is a guaranteed drop if you are on the step).

    Kill several tentacle terrors 0/4 (Crystal Caverns)

    Any "terror" mob counts towards this step (not just "a tentacle terror"; can be the stalag terrors, pure terrors, etc. as well). These are found in the area west of Froststone, in the southern half of the Crystal Caverns zone. See this map for details about getting around the zone (terror spawns are concentrated in the area of the "broken bridge" towards the bottom of that map, and in the tunnels east of it -- can do a "find" for Bronigan).

    Obtain a Pale Fearshard from a tentacle terror 0/1 (Crystal Caverns)

    Loot this item from a corpse (this is a guaranteed drop if you are on the step).

    You quickly turn around as you get the impression that two sets of razor sharp claws are primed to bore into your back... Yet no such danger is apparent.

    Travel to the Feartouched Kael Drakkel 0/1 (Zeixshi-Kar's Awakening)

    Kill several residents of the city 0/6 (Kael Drakkel)

    Kill any six giants.

    Obtain a Softly Glowing Fearshard from a resident 0/1 (Kael Drakkel)

    Loot this item from a corpse (guaranteed drop if you are on the step).

    You think you hear the wailing of a harpy in the distance.

    Kill several apparitions of fear 0/4 (Kael Drakkel)

    These are the mobs that don't belong in Kael Drakkel (twisted prowlers, fey faeries, extinct kedge, drakes, wurms, etc.).

    Obtain a Faintly Pulsing Fearshard from an apparition 0/1 (Kael Drakkel)

    Loot this item from a corpse (guaranteed drop if you are on the step).

    The thought of an enormous Iksar skeleton looming over you is inexplicably at the forefront of your consciousness.

    Report back to Director Idris Manaar 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

    Task Window Says: Now that you have crystal shards from both the native and foreign beings of each nightmare, return to Director Idris for the materials needed to craft the shards into a usable channelling device.

    You say, 'Hail, Director Idris Manaar'

    Director Idris Manaar hands you the Soulcapture Crystal Construction Materials.

    Director Idris Manaar looks over the broken crystals you have collected and nods. 'Very well, take this carefully crafted reconstruction kit and place the crystal pieces together. This empowered crystal will work as a channeling device to capture some of the nightmares that are escaping from the Heart of Fear. Return the crystal to me when you have recaptured five of these wayward spirits.'

    Construct a Soulcapture Crystal 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

    In the container, combine the six fearshards.

    Recapture souls that have escaped from the Heart of Fear 0/5 (Shard's Landing)

    Task Window Says: The Soulcapture Crystal can be used to bring the ethereal nightmares that are escaping from the Heart of Fear into corporeal beings.

    Bring a number of these nightmares into existence and slay them. Their essence will be captured within the Soulcapture Crystal.

    Move to the outside of the Harbinger camp (outside the crater; the valley just west of the crater is known to work) and right-click the crystal. -487, -177 is a spot that has been known to work.

    You must activate the crystal right outside of the Harbinger's Outpost. The area between the edge of the crater and the surrounding hills will be your best option.

    The crystal emits a bright light as an escaped nightmare starts phasing into existence.

    a wayard nightmare takes form.

    You feel very uneasy.

    A mob called "a wayward nightmare" appears. This mob is auto-aggro on anyone with the task. It hits for a max ~11,500 and is immune to mez and stun. You need to kill five of them.

    Return the Soulcapture Crystal to Director Idris Manaar 0/1 (Shard's Landing)

    You say, 'Hail, Director Idris Manaar'

    Director Idris Manaar stares at you with an expression of boredom, 'Yes? Do you have something to report? Don't tell me you've gone and [misplaced] the Soulcapture Crystal Construction Materials...'

    Director Idris Manaar holds the nightmare infused crystal up to his face and peers into it carefully. He displays an unusual sense of emotion as he smiles, 'This will do fine. The Heart will reabsorb these spirits and our tenders will renew their efforts in maintaining the barrier between the Heart and the landing.' He pauses and looks over at the large tent to the south, 'You may be ready to speak with Glask.'

    Your efforts to recapture the escaped spirits of the Heart of Fear have been successful.

    Your faction standing with Harbingers of Thule has been increased by 50.

    There might be a proximity requirement to receive the experience reward. Had a few folks not near the NPC today (but in zone at vendors) and they received 0 xp.

    -450, -650 worked for final fights. Be sure to spawn it far away from your group so tank/pet has time to pick agro up.. My bard got smacked spawning it too close.

    I boxed my way (poorly) through this as a 98/3500 Wiz + J5 tank and a 92/100 Bard + J5 cleric. The Bard is around mostly for his merc, plus slow and haste. If I actually was competent at playing him it would no doubt have been easier.

    The EW part is easy and nothing special to report.

    Crystal Caverns is very much an old-school dungeon (obviously, being Velious era) in that it is tight, twisting, and hard to find a good camp spot. I ended up killing orcs at the zone in; but even that included one wanderer and having to split three mobs. For the tentacle terrors I found a spot with two static and one roaming mob that could be pulled onto a small ledge. That worked well enough so long as you cleared the roamer first.

    I was (am?) allied to Giants during Velious, so I never really killed in Kael. Not sure what to make of the faction in RoF's Kael, as quite a lot was amiable while some mobs were KOS. I didn't notice a pattern though I'm sure there is one. The panthers and imps are easy kills and nothing seems to assist them. For the citizens I killed a bunch of "a courrier" - these were indifferent and oddly did not assist each other despite numerous other courriers pathing by as I killed one.

    In all three zones, I got the needed shards simply by killing the number of mobs necessary and never had to kill more just for the drops. Not sure if it's coded that way or just good luck as most of the time the shard was on my last corpse.

    It took me a while to find a spot that would work for the final fight. The /loc posted above did not work for me. Instead -447.58, -306.48 did. There was one snake to clear nearby but other than that it was an OK location. Mobs were level 98, and if you got this far in the quest, you will not have a problem killing them.

    Overall, it took me nearly 3:30 to complete this, which is absurd. I died way too many times, almost always because of adds or bad splits. It's not a difficult mission, just not one for which my crappy boxing skills were well-suited.

    @96 got about 5% xp with full allottment towards xp. You also receive 6 aa. When you get to the 'recapture the souls' part, you need to be just outside the crater and then click your crystal. You will need to kill 5 mobs: 1 mob spawns for each crystal click.
