Marshal Anrey may be found on the second floor of the bank in a nook in the southwest corner, at 100, -135, 40.

You say, 'Hail, Marshal Anrey'

Marshal Anrey says 'Stand at attention!! You don't look fit enough to toe-wrestle my grandma!! You cannot be in my squad!! Are you [petitioning] or are you a [visitor]?'

You say, 'I am a visitor.'

Marshal Anrey says 'Well, why didn't you say so?! Forgive me for hollering. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Marshal Anrey Leadladle, commander of the [Leatherfoot Raiders].'

You say, 'I am petitioning.'

Marshal Anrey says 'So you want to be a [Leatherfoot Raider]? What kind of joke is this? Look at you! You're a mess! Where are you [from]?'

You say, 'Who are the Leatherfoot Raiders?'

Marshal Anrey says 'You must be a visitor. The Leatherfoot Raiders are the elite force of the Guardians of the Vale. I command them. It is good to meet an outsider.'

You say, 'I am from Rivervale.'

Marshal Anrey says 'So you're from Rivervale?!! You must be some kind of freak. No halfling from Rivervale would look, smell and act anything like you. Well, freak, if you think you're stout enough to be a Leatherfoot Raider, you prove it!! You travel the lands and return to me a polar bear skin, a grizzly bear skin, a shark skin and an alligator skin. Then maybe, just maybe, I will let you wear the cap of a Leatherfoot Raider.'

Alligator Skin comes from alligators in Innothule Swamp.

After handing Marshal Anrey the skins:

Marshal Anrey says, 'So I see the young troll has become a young warrior. You have stepped up to the challenge of the Leatherfoot Raiders, you may wear the petitioner's skullcap, but to receive the true cap of the raiders, bring me the dirk of a fallen Neriak dragoon and the cap I have given you. Only then can I be sure that you can truly be one of the few and bold, the Leatherfoot Raiders.'

Your faction standing with Guardians of the Vale has been adjusted by 25.
Your faction standing with Mayor Gubbin could not possibly get any better.
Your faction standing with Storm Reapers has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Rivervale has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with Dreadguard Outer has been adjusted by -3.
You gain experience!
You receive 4 gold from Marshal Anrey.
You receive 1 platinum from Marshal Anrey.

Receive: Leatherfoot Skullcap.

Hand Marshal Anrey the Leatherfoot Skullcap and Dragoon Dirk.

Marshal Anrey says, 'Congratulations, my young deputy! Welcome to the brotherhood of the Leatherfoot Raiders. You have earned your skullcap. Wear it with pride. You are now one of the elite. Remember our motto, 'Those who risk, prevail'.'

Your faction standing with Guardians of the Vale has been adjusted by 50.
Your faction standing with Mayor Gubbin could not possibly get any better.
Your faction standing with Storm Reapers has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Rivervale could not possibly get any better.
Your faction standing with Dreadguard Outer has been adjusted by -7.
You gain experience!
You receive 2 platinum from Marshal Anrey.

Reward: Leatherfoot Raider Skullcap

I handed the skullcap (still charged) back to Marshal Anrey and he said that he had no need for the item so I do not know of any way to recharge it.

Getting the cap when you're not from Rivervale - the Enchant
# Feb 01 2001 at 9:44 PM Rating: Default
My little sister is just a lvl 6 halfling druid who lacks the faction to receive the quest and the skill to gather the items needed. Big sis (lvl 31 enchanter) to the rescue! 1) Gathered the items and headed to Rivervale. 2) Tried just being myself with no luck. 3) Turned myself into a halfling - still no luck. 4) Cast Benevolence on Marshal Anrey (now cons amiable) Received the quest and the cap. Hope my pesky baby sister appreciates how many bull alligators I had to kill before I got that skin.
Just finished it :)
# Jan 26 2001 at 9:48 AM Rating: Decent
Walk through.
Being a halfling druid and have handed in Gobbo necklaces as young I had good enough faction to start with.

Step 1 bought Dragoon Dirk at 30pp.

Step 2 Killed Bull gators in Inno. Got one on 7th kill.

Step 3 Port and run to Everfrost. Killed Polar bear. Got a Polar skin on my 3rd kill.

Step 4 picked up Grizzly skin from friend (should be easiest bit).

Step 5 Ran to Rivelvale. NO shark skin in RV! Skip this step go to 6.

Step 6 Ran to East FP and killed Shark. He spawns fast no problemo. Second time he dropped 3 skins.

Step 7 Back to Rivervale, get all 5 items, go up the stairs.

Step 8 Say I am from Rivervale and get response about getting him the skins.

Step 9 Hand all four skins at the same time. Ding XP 5GP and a 10 Cha Cap. Read the text he wants cap back with a Dragoon Dirk.

Step 10 Hand back cap with Dragoon Dirk at the same time. Ding XP 1 plat and an improved Cap.

Now I wear a good headwear and look like a complete dork :)

This quest is awesome. I had NO problems at 25 only green kills. There is no way I could handle a Dragoon so buy the knife.

Prior to Velious this was the 3rd best headwear for a halfling druid. With that perspective this quest is truely AWESOME.

I also just finished this quest. Very similar procedure except that I killed the sharks in the Qeynos catacombs for the shark skin.

Hardest part was definitely getting the gator skin. I was getting frustrated running around in the Innothule Swamp, so I just camped on top of the little undead tower and logged on every few hours to kill any gators that were stuck up there (these gators DO fight back, so this should not fall into the 'stuck mob exploit' that you can get in trouble for). I probably killed about 30 gators in all, and fifty or so skeletons. (those guys spawn really fast.)

As an 18 druid, the only part that was hard was saving up the platinum for the dirk. :) Very nice hat!
Gator Skin

The gator skin is still dropping, got mine off a bull alligator. I tried for about 2 days with my lvl22 Rogue and nothing. Then tried one day with my 15 enchanter (since some people say its level based) and nothing. Then brought my rogue back out there and on the 4 bull gator the skin dropped. So total, four days... its a pain but definetly worth it, the cap is great!

About the Shady Vendor
# Dec 08 2000 at 2:43 AM Rating: Default
Ok, I created a newbie darkelf to check out to see if it was true. Unfortunately, I couldn't even find a "shady vendor" near the bank. I would greatly appreciate if you could be more exact, as to where I may locate this vendor that sells gator skins.
Thank you.
RE: About the Shady Vendor
# May 10 2001 at 7:44 PM Rating: Default
There is no "shady vendor" near the Neriak bank.

The "shady halfling" in Rivervale near the druids' guild is not a merchant.

The Shady Swashbuckler in the EC tunnel *might*, just like any other vendor, have one that a player has dumped -- it is not a standard item, so there is nothing to "replenish" as the earlier post implied. However, it is a high traffic area, so there may be a slightly higher chance of people dumping one on him than on another vendor.

The shady vendor is NOT at the bank. He is at the field outside the druid's guild.

I think you are thinking of the Shady Halfling near the Druid's guild in Rivervale. That one is not a merchant and does not responde to hails (I know, I checked). There is no Druid guild in Neriak. Whoever knows about this 'shady vendor' please post something like a loc here, I want that Cha quite badly :)

Quest Update - A through Z
# Dec 06 2000 at 4:30 PM Rating: Decent
I just completed this quest and the reward was well worth the effort. Here is some information that will help you to complete the quest quicker.

To get the Quest:

Hail
/say I am petitioning, I want to join your squad
/say I am from Rivervale

(NOTE: Other dialog works also, but this is how I got the quest and it worked well. DONT turn in any items until he tells you what to turn in, otherwise you will throw away your items. If he doesn't give you the quest then you may need to work on your faction. Kill lots of goblins in Misty Thicket and turn in the Runney Eye Warbeads for additional faction (different but easy quest). If you aren't from Rivervale give him the correct city of your homeland).

Grizzly Bear Skin - I got mine in West Karana. Takes on average 25-50 grizzly bears to get a skin. Not too difficult.

Polar Bear Skin - Probably the easiest skin to get. There is an open area in EverFrost that spawns polar bear cubs so fast that you can hardly keep up with them. Only took me 20 minutes to get a skin here.

Shark Skin - I got mine by the Freeport Dock. Just to the right of the fisherman there is a shark that spawns. Just swim a 100 feet or so and you should find it. They drop a stackable Shark Skin. You only need one for the quest.

Alligator Skin - You can either spend countless hours in the Swamp by the Undead tower fighting bull alligators and fat alligators or you can do what I did. SPOILER: The Alligator Skin can be purchased from the shady vendor next to the bank in neriak, the Dark Elf City. Save yourself some time and pay a Dark Elf to go into the city and bring one to you. The vendor only sells one at a time and it takes 4-8 hours to replentish his stock. Check back if needed.

NOTE: All of these skins must say "Skin", they cannot be hides or ruined hides or anything else. The items must exactly say the following:

Grizzly Bear Skin
Polar Bear Skin
Shark Skin
Alligator Skin

You can get the Dragoon Dirk off of Dvinn in Crushbone or you can but it off a player for 20-60pp. I camped Dvinn for a while and finally gave up and bought one off a player for 50pp.

Note: You must turn in ALL four skins at the same time in order to get the Leatherfoot Cap, and then turn in the Leatherfoot Cap and the Dragoon Dirk at the same time to get the Leatherfoot Raider Skullcap.

Very nice item.

A couple of additions...
# Jan 02 2001 at 2:25 PM Rating: Decent
Grizzly Bear Skins are also dropped by kodiaks and young kodiaks. East Commonlands is a good place to look for this skin. There are lots of young kodies there, and often, one of the many vendors will have a skin in stock. In my experience, a grizzly bear skin drops 7-10% of the time off young kodies (one per 10-15 bears, in other words).

Regarding the alligator skin: I've talked to players who tried for this skin for three weeks. I got lucky and got mine after about 6-7 hours in the Swamp. Here are some clues that might help out:

Kill giant water moccasins to increase the number of bull alligators that spawn. Apparently, they are on the same "spawn table", and either may spawn to fill a vacancy ... so make vacancies. This works pretty fast. I often would chase down the moccasin I was killing, then run back to the tower and find a bull standing around or passing through.

If you have the time, work on your swimming skill before going to the Swamp. You'll need it. The giant moccasins and bull 'gators will "run" -- which most of the time really means "swim" -- away from you when their health gets low. It's frustrating to see your quarry swim out of sight while you lumber along in slow-motion. (A side benefit to this quest is, your swimming skill will go up. Mine rose nine levels during the time I was hunting bulls.)

If your faction is okay with the frogloks -- they won't attack you on sight -- you can train any nuisance undead mobs (skeletons, zombies, mummies) onto the froglok foragers that are all over the NW corner of the Swamp. The foragers will help you kill the mobs. For amusement, I've managed to gather up as many as three foragers, so my parade was me running ahead of a skeleton who was running ahead of three foragers. (They eventually killed the skellie.)

Bull alligators are seldom seen far from the undead tower, so you don't really need to bring along a tracker to find them. If you can, though, bring along a cleric, druid, or shaman. You need disease protection/curing (the mummies carry rabies) and poison protection/curing (for the giant water moccasins). There will usually be a troll and/or ogre shaman or two in the Swamp, but don't depend on that unless you have to.

Good luck!
RE: A couple of additions...
# Feb 14 2001 at 6:45 AM Rating: Default
I spent a good 4 hours at the Towere island and only met up with 5 or 6 Bull Alligators. In a boredom induced frenzy I wiped out every Rat, Kobold, and Moccasin in the area... and *poof* the Bulls were out in such force I'd finish killing one and another would be up for me to run down. I took me a while to work out the cause, but I've discovered that in addition to the Giant Water Moccasins (and posibly the more common Swamp Alligators), Kobold Hunters seem to be on the "spawn table". As a driud with tracking, I noticed a drop and eventual disappearence of Giant Moccasins... but the numbers of Kobold Hunters and Froglok Foragers were through the roof. Alas, I refuse to kill the frogs (don't want to lose my spider silk farm) and after killing a few Hunters the Bulls started coming back, as well as a few Moccasins.

I've killed about 15 Bulls, and gotten one skin. (Too bad I need a second for my Roque brother... <sigh>)

And keep an eye out for the 'free' Bull spawn ON the tower. There seems to be a messed up pathing for one of them and he always gets stuck on top of the tower. Beat him down to 1/2 life and he panics and shuffles back and forth letting you finish him off easily. (I've seen Kobold Hunters and Giant Water Moccasins stuck in the exact same place... Positive proof of the "spawn table" theory.)

RE: Quest Update - A through Z - Alligator Skin
# Dec 19 2000 at 9:05 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, when I was trying to get the Alligator Skin in the swamp and sending auctions trying to purchase one, a level 52 Dark Elf Warrior told me that he say one in Neriak at a vendor near the bank. I asked him how long ago and he told me 8 hours. I went to the NK forest and talked a level 5 warrior into checking for me and he found it and purchased it for me. The vendor had a specific name and possibly didn't say "Shaddy vendor" but something similiar.

Check near the bank and near the Neriak Underground which is close to the bank also. One of the vendors by the Bank/Underground should carry the Alligator Skin.

The vendor that sells the SKINS stocks it. Since Dark Elves are an evil race, they have a vendor which sells skins to make poisons with.

He only carries one at a time and it may take several hours to replentish his stock.

Sorry for the confusion. This is as much information as I have since I didn't go in myself since I'm KOS there.

Good luck and best wishes.

How do you start this quest? I've been answering the marshell's questions from Indifferant to Warmly and he won't give me the quest. When I became amiable to him I got a second line asking if I want to become a leatherfoot raider and where am I from. No matter what I answer he won't respond farther. Is there a certain way to say the message?

Dragoon Dirk
# Jan 02 2001 at 2:49 PM Rating: Default
There are several places to get a Dragoon Dirk, apparently.

The traditional place is in the Crushbone tower, from Ambassador DVinn. He's a dark elf and very tough for his level (as are all the dark elf dragoons).

There is another "ambassador", also. He's in Ogguk, in one of the tunnels near the shaman guild. I understand he will also occasionally drop a Dragoon Dirk. This one wouldn't be easy for a halfling to get, though. :)

The Dragoons in Nektulos Forest also drop the Dirk, I'm told. I would expect them to be tough, also, much tougher than they con.

(Dorn B'Dynn in North Ro is another of these dark elf dragoons scattered around Norrath. He once conned blue to my level 16 magician but stood toe-to-toe with a level 34 paladin for a long fight before running fleetly. Now imagine how long you could stand up to a mob 19 levels higher than you.)

There is now a dragoon in West Commonlands. Zytl, or something like that. I'm told he drops a Dirk, too.

You can get the bear skins you need with little trouble at level 10. You can buy the shark skin in Rivervale (the vendor near the water) at any level. The real trick is getting the Dirk. I would guess the easiest to get is the Crushbone/DVinn Dirk, and without help, you need to be around level 24 to try that in relative safety. (There is a distinct possibility that you will have to fight Emperor Crush, the Prophet, and/or some royal guards either just before DVinn spawns, or while you fight him. Be warned.) So if you want your Leatherfoot Raider's Skullcap before you are able to take on DVinn, you will probably have to buy your Dirk, get a guildmate to get one for you, or go in a good group.
RE: Dragoon dagger aka dirk?
# Dec 04 2000 at 6:03 PM Rating: Default
Yes, it drops of of Dvinn in Crushbone. I bought mine off a player. Typically sells for 20-40pp.
You can usually find someone in Crushbone or GFay auctioning it off.

#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 2:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.

Well, dont waste your alligator skin. This quest may have been fixed, cause i got jack by doing it a second time. Well i did get the 5 GP and the experience, but my nice little hat wasnt upgraded, so i am wanting a dragoon dirk now!

One message about those tought alligator skins. It seems many people have bad luck. I got two on about 15 bull alligator kills. While i was camping, a level 30 druid in wolf form was running all over hell trying to get bull alligators and auctioning for the pelt. I came back the next day to get my second, and he was still running around like a chicken with his head cut off looking for bull alligators. Read the posts from bottom to top, and save yourselves about 20 hours of work. First half of Quest really does take about 3 hours for a player with sow, and at least level 13.

Alligator Skins
# Sep 18 2000 at 12:47 PM Rating: Default
We have the Alligator Skins down to a science. My druid friend and I just got a skin each. I went one night and found that the Bulls do not spawn very often. I camped my halfling Cleric and logged on my 20th wood elf Ranger. Every morning before work I logged on and spent 20 -30 minutes checking the swamp. Usually in the morning there were 5 or 6 Bulls and 0 or 1 Fats. Killed them all and logged. After work I logged in and killed all the bull and fats and logged. Before bed same thing. In six days of doing this killed maybe a hundred alligators and got 2 skins. There were never more than 6 at a time. They take at least 2 hours to respawn. I usually couldn't track them, but If I ran back and forth along the North zone line I usually saw all 6. Once you kill them all, log because they are gone and it is not worth it to keep checking on them. There is nearly always one in the tower trapped in the spawn spot bug. That one often gets killed by passing folk. They are probly 50 percent in the northeast corner, but they wander a lot, so I found plenty in northwest to north central. It is great for swimming, I strongly recommend a person that can track, and strongly recommend that you do not do an extended camp, just log someone there and check in from time to time.

# Sep 14 2000 at 9:38 AM Rating: Decent
I did this last night. I got lucky on the Gator skin, it did come from a Bull Alligator. The grizzly skin you can buy just about anywhere, I got mine in West Commons. The polar bear skin I got from killing a few Polar bear cubs. The shark skin I could NOT find in RiverVale. So I ran to East Freeport and killed the hammerhead in the water out from Bait Masterson. I got 3 sharkskins from it. I gated back to RV and talked to Marshal Anrey and he wouldn't say anything about the quest. I tried giving him a shark skin, thinking it might be like other quests and they will ask you for the rest of the items, but he didn't say anything. I figured maybe it was a faction problem, since I left RV very early in life and NEVER did any goblin killing or questing. I went out to Misty killed the Goblin camps for a bit. Turned in the Warbeads about 5 times, then tried again. The Marshal finally talked to me about the quest. I tried giving one of the shark skins(not wanting to lose the gator skin) and there was NO response. When you give all the skins at once he gives you the first cap. Then just give him back the Cap and a Dragoon Dirk and he gives you the True Raider's cap. Be sure to talk to him first. If he doesn't tell you about the quest, you need to work on faction.

Alligator's seem to be a slow spawn in Innothule Swamp. Looked for 1 1/2 Hrs , and was only
able to find/slay two Bull gators. NO skin, Only meat !

This is nuts. My warrior is parked down there because he is a halfling warrior and this is a quest of his npc guild. Every night before switching to a character that can actually make some progress, I start out waking my HFL WAR up, he runs around and kills 6 or 7 bulls and maybe a fat or two. So far he's netted FOUR severed ogre arms, lots of gator meat, chunks of meat, and gator teeth. But not a single skin. In the world of Norrath, you are more likely to find ogre parts in alligators than alligators parts! Why? To control this uberplaner hat that gives a halfling some charisma? This is too unbalancing to be a common quest? When you have newly-level-12 enchanters racing around on essentially the same quest (go to the corners of Norrath gathering 4 items) to get an item providing a 10-boost not to some tertiary characteristic but to their primary characteristic. And doable in a night (and doable several times netting immense profit if you buy some teleports). The drop rate on the skins makes them the hardest item to get. In the time I've wasted down in the swamps I could have been killing DE guards and gaining a few levels. And with the proceeds from all those bronze long swords I would never have to even face a DE Dragoon since I would have way more than enough to not only buy a dagger for the upgraded beanie but also to have a pair to wield as well. Sheesh and bah.

Be patient, I went to the swamp three times before getting mine. The first time by myself for about two hours, only saw like 2-3 bulls; second time was for about an hour and a half with a friend that had tracking; we killed about 6-7 - he later came back and killed a few more. Tonight, I went down there and there were bulls and fats all over the place; killed about 10 in 30-40 minutes... was getting late so as I was leaving, I saw a fat by the SRO zone - BINGO!! so if it were me, and I was doing it again, if you go there and they seem to be real scarce, don't waste your time.. come back when plenty of em are spawning - now on to get a Draggon Dirk

I have completed this quest and i used a stackable shark skin. I got it in Freeport off a skark in the water by Bait Masterson i was lvl 20 took him out in one blast. The gator skin however was a little more difficult.I killed prolly about 30 bulls and 5fats and finally got one. Seems the most common area they are in is by the little tower on the north side of the zone. And dont forget to check the top of the tower stuff gets stuck there and that is where i finally looted one. Good cap only hard part is looting gator skin.
