Priestess Caulria in the temple in North Qeynos in the Temple of Life (UFO), and requires you to look into the occurrence of rabid wolves in the area. Rabid wolves and bears are found in the Qeynos Hills and occasionally drop fleshy orbs. Return one of the orbs to Caulria:

Priestess Caulria says, 'This is odd. This could explain the increase in the number of beasts within the lands surrounding Qeynos. You must take this to Freeport. Here. You must speak with Lorme Tredore. Show him this pellet. You had best gear up for the trip. Freeport is very far away. Here is some gold. Outfit yourself at our expense.'

Your faction standing with Priests of Life has been adjusted by 10.
Your faction standing with Knights of Thunder has been adjusted by 3.
Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with Bloodsabers has been adjusted by -2.
Your faction standing with Antonius Bayle has been adjusted by 1.
You gain experience!!
You receive 3 gold from Priestess Caulria.

You will receive some gold and a returned Fleshy Orb, which you need to deliver to Freeport. Lorme Tredore is in the Academy of Arcane Science (bottom floor in the revamped Freeport) and will reward you with a fine steel weapon, experience and some coin upon turning receiving the orb.

Lorme Tredore says, 'Ah, thank you for bringing this to me! I will make very good use of it. Here, take this small token of my appreciation in return. Guard Jenkins will no longer require it, as he was killed on the training field yesterday. tsk tsk tsk.'

You gain experience!!
You receive 7 silver from Lorme Tredore.
You receive 5 gold from Lorme Tredore.
Targeted (NPC): Lorme Tredore

Factions given are correct from Priestess Caulria. Lorme Tredore still does not give any faction.

You already have the locations of needed NPCs in the column to the left, so you can update that info to reflect the walkthrough for the quest.

I did this the other day with my Froglok who is a Shaman. Had to kill lots of rabid bears and wolves, to get the Fleshy Orb, but it is great experience, faction and coin at lvl 6. You get more Rabid Grizzly Hide's which sell for just over 2gp than you get Putrid Bear Hides which are No Drop but I always get 2pp or more for them from Princess Caulria and Spell:Endure Magic. The spell sells for 7gp but I give to whomever can use it. After that I head to Freeport anyway to get to East Commons, which is an excellent zone to take you to atleast lvl 14 as the difficulty and lvl of MOB's is spread out perfectly (don't know why everyone goes into Black Burrow before lvl 10 anyway. Just asking to die by trains, or poorly grouped and wandering MOB's). It's no waste of time to jump into Freeport and drop the item off to Lorme Tredore on the top floor of the Academy to recieve more experience, faction and coin. The FS weapon I recieved yielded me over 6pp.
This worked for me

Princess Caulria cons "ally" to my Paladin. Hailed her. Tried to get her to talk about "Fleshy orb." Just got talk about rabid pelts. Tried giving her the Fleshy Orb I've had sitting in the bank for a while. She gave it back.

Any suggestions what the "Fleshy Orb" is for nowadays?

I did this quest a few days ago on the Stromm server. Gave Caulria the Fleshy orb that I found on a Rabid Wolf in the Qeynos Hills, she returned it and said to take it to the wizard guildmaster in Freeport. Here's the log:

[Sun Nov 23 03:12:40 2003] You are encumbered!
[Sun Nov 23 03:12:43 2003] Donbayne saved.

He also gave me a Fine Steel Morning Star. At level 28 I got about 1.5 blue ticks of xp each from Caulria and Tredore. I also get 1.5 blue ticks and a plat or 2 for a Putrid Bear Hide from Rabid Grizzlies.
Since the patch a few days ago the amount of rabid wolves and bears in Qeynos Hills has been nerfed. There used to always be 1 or 2 up, now there's often none on track. In fact it seems that the amount of any kind of bear or wolf has decreased.

Have you tried killing rabid wolves in QH to see if they still drop? If they no longer drop, I would guess the quest is now inactive. When it was known to work, she would give you back the fleshy orb to take to Freeport anyway. When you gave it to her the first time, did she tell you to go to Freeport or did she say something like "I have no use for this item, you can have it back."? It may also be possible, since you had it in the bank for a while, that you may have handed it to her a long time ago and forgot and you now have the one that goes to Freeport. It's wierd, but the item changes even though it looks the same and has the same name. Since there is no longer a plague on the Karanas, I would think this would be inactive since that's the main focus of this quest. I noticed that the putrid bear skins don't drop off the rabid grizzlies anymore, (they were 2PP a pop, too, dammit!!) so that quest doesn't work anymore either.

He's deader than dead. The quest ends here. He died on the practice ground and you deserve a reward for the fleshy orb, so you get his weapon, a fine steel something. If you don't like it you can sell it for 5 - 8p or use it in your smithing tradeskill. If you're after a weapon with stats at a low level, then maybe the Jaggedpine Crook quest would be better. Sometimes the reward for a quest is just a warm fuzzy feeling that you've been helpful.

I barely got by to lvl 14 on a FS (fine steel) weapon. This guy up top talks about FS lke its god send ubber weapon. Let me know if you ever want to fight an Air elemental, a willow wisp or a ghoul.... or, for gods sake, if for some reason an INVULNERABLE! MAGIG BEAR attacks you.

And you could GATE to the location. or at least a CLERIC could gate to the guards location. but we are talking about a quest for lvl 4 or so. People be realistic, its not going to be an epic quest for a FS weapon. =)

There MAY be more, perhapse. But I think its what was explained, the guy died, he has no use for it. I think people are reading WAY too much into this quest.

I am FAR from a begger in EQ, but honeslty, when I start a new char, I try and see if someone can simply give me a FS to get started.

Sarcasm hopefully noted.

Truth be told, for a level 8-10 getting FS, selling it for 4-5P is good money at that level, the unfortunate thing is that it requires many trips back and forth to freeport to get any real benefit from it.
Beware!

Be extremely careful when going through Kithicor forest, there are lev 35+ undead that can see invisible, can charm you, then will kill you. Try not to pass through this zone at night 'cause the place is swarming with skellys. Try to stick to the edges of the zone. Otherwise have fun. By pure luck I got a fine steel scimitar for my level 11 druid. Sweeet!

I just compleated the Quest tonight. It was not to hard. I just Sowed myself when needed. Only time I had problms, was in Highpass,(do not know the Zone well.). Good for lvles hight enough to run through Karanas, and be able to keep away from the Gnolls and Orcs.

As of 08/08/01, the quest works. My bard turned in both orbs and was rewarded both time. Lorme is located at the top level of the Academy at the left corner of the floor. After you have boarded the floating structure from the teleporting platform (the only way to get to the Academy), take the stairs on the left when you get inside. Then immediately take a hard left to get to the top level where Lorme is. I missed it the first time b/c the entrance/exit to the steps is easy to run by. All the putz gave me was a stinking FS short sword! :0
Revive
# Aug 06 2001 at 9:55 AM Rating: Default
Why not just take a necro to the guardes body and revive it would that work? And if you can't find Lome, go to the arcane gate, go in and next to a gnome standing outside is a pad. Step on the pad you'll appear outside, go in the door and go strait, take a left go up the stairs, go up the stairs next to the first set, then go up 1 more pair and Lome will be in the back left hand corner off the room. He's the mage gyild master for the face befor the one with the blond hair and patch on his eye.
decent enough

Just so everyone knows, it IS fixed. you can find Lorme upstairs(all the way up) in the Academy building. you can enter by stepping onto the platform in front of the building. When you get up all the stairs, while they are all casting spells on each other, you can find him in the uppermost room. Note: turn down your speakers or turn spell effects off before entering ) Hope you all enjoy this fixed Quest

How about this... When you get the FS weapon, try casting Identify on it to find out if there is anything special about it. If it shows something to the effect of "Guard Jenkin's Fine Steel ******", then perhaps giving it back to him will lead to another quest. Otherwise i'm guessing that the sword is just for cash or use.

Actually he is referring to the identify spell in EQ not the identify spell in AD&D. :)
RE: Another Idea
# Jul 06 2002 at 11:45 AM Rating: Default
You're all wrong! Identify only works on lore items (half the time they're part of a quest) and since FS weps are NOT lore, identify won't work on them. Not that you can't turn it in to the guard, but don't expect him to reward you for it.
