Checked this info out on Agnarr. The Priestess takes the pelt, no indication of she wanting to (as in the info already there) and the rewards/faction are correct.

Have you ever;
1) Been in the Bazaar and heard someone /ooc I have no money for my spells?
2) Ever had anyone /tell ask Can I have some PP so I can buy my next spells?
3) Etc. Etc.

Well refer them to this quest!

Value #1: Get your spells for free.

Value #2: Camp for Pyzjn (level 13-15 Gnome Necro) while you hunt the rabid grizzly, and you have a chance for a nifty rare drop. (Bring friends, she's a nasty fight)

Value #3: Bear Pelts. Medium Quality can be given to Chanda Miller in Queynos Hills with 15gp for Bear-hide Boots (EE1), and MQ / HQ Bear Pelts sell in the bazaar for pp.

All in all you have just pacified a beggar.. They get their spells, their pp, and some nifty noob items all in one convenient camp.

Now put them on /ignore and have a moment of silence to remember why BEGGING IS BAD!! Grr.

I haven't seen a putrid bear hide drop in a long time. The rabid grizzlies now have a unique item (can't remember the name) they drop that is neither the putrid bear hide nor any of the ruined, low, medium or high quality pelts. Neither is it the thick grizzly bear skin that sometimes drops off kodiaks. Too bad. The plat for turning them in was nice for lowbies. I used to start new characters in the Qeynos/SFG area just to hunt rabids for the money. I also used to keep rabid wolf hides in the bank for whenever I got diseased. The cure disease she casts on you is good no matter where the disease comes from, not just from rabies.

Nah, the Putrid's still drop as of mid-February. The never did drop every time, perhaps every third on a bad day. The unique item you're thinking of is part of the newb armor quests.

I found a Putrid Bear Hide on a Rabid Grizzly in Western Karana a few weeks ago. Rabid grizzlies are not rare spawns there. I've been killing myself trying to hand it into Priestess Jahnda in Qeynos. Duh, this ranger has been in the woods too long ( /consent cleric_01 lol ) it's Caulria I have to give it to. I'll post the results of the turn-in ASAP. I'm a newbie and thought the layout of the cleric guild in Qeynos was well done, especially the "flying saucer". Ummmmm, what's at the bottom of that hole in the cleric/paladin guild area? Do we have to drop a halfling down it to find out?

did you try it with the rabid grizzly skin? If so, did it work? I'm curious because this looks like a good quest to make a little money for my arrows.
thanks in advance

Its stackable, droppable, not lore AND SHE GIVES IT BACK. She says she doesn't need it.

It comes off a rabid grizzly now.
So it doesn't always drop the Putrid, which is for the quest

I killed one today and got no putrid, just this rabid one that is useless. They used to ALWAYS drop the putrid.
Is this quest dead?
# Aug 12 2002 at 12:42 PM Rating: Default
I tried to hand in a Rabbid Griz pelt this morning and the Priestess Caulria handed it back to me saying she didn't need it.

???

I've sucessfully done this quest before with another character of mine, a barbarian shaman. I'm doing it with an Erudite wizard this time... but the priestess won't take the pelt! Has the quest gone dead?

I think this is something different. You turn in the Putrid Bear Hides to the Priestess for XP, Faction and Plat. She will not take the Rabid Grizzly Pelt
RE: Is this quest dead?

Confirm quest is still alive. I have been doing this quest on and off for about 2 years every time I pass thru the area. It is the putrid bear hides not the rabid griz pelts. Princess Caluria also take the putrid wolf hides but the exp and coins you get are both smaller. Keep in mind that if you happen to have caught rabies disease, by turning in the skins she will cast cure disease on you once per skin whether you need it nor not.
One of the reasons I still turn in the pelts is for the good factions. *** Keep in mind that if have bad factions, (Threatning or Attack,) with the cleric guild DO NOT attempt to raise it by going down that hallway to the 'space ship'. You will get attacked by all the cleric NPC's, cleric trainers, and spell vendors in the area.
You still get the cure disease spell scroll for every putrid bear you turn in and so all the vendors in the area usually have a few on them from other ppl just selling it off when they get it.
Spawn:
All the bears in QHills are PH's for the Rabid Grizzlys there. Same goes for the wolves. You should try to pull the rabids to a zone wall or do a careful check for Holly Windstalker and Cross Treewind. Keep track of where they are in the zone, they just keep roaming around and you should be able to see them easily. They have some misguided approach to protecting the bears and wolves of QHills. Funny thing is that you do NOT get any bad faction from killing the wolves or bears. So you can be killin tonz of them and Holly and Cross will still be Ally/Warmly/Amiable whatever to you. But the minute you aggro a bear, (not even attack it, just aggro it,) those two will start casting on you and attacking you if they are nearby.
Now, the aggro range of Holly and Cross is not that huge. But the rule of thumb is: check for the 2 npc's, and if they are near, don't aggro any bears or wolves.
I never bothered to learn the pathing for Holly and Cross. Suffice it to say they roam all over QHills so always be on the lookout for them if yer a huntin the critters. Only those ppl who dont care about factions will just kill Cross and Holly. Its a pretty big hit with Surefall Glade if you kill them but not catestrophic hit to faction. Just dont make a habit of it hehe.

more wolves for sure. less bears, or not as common as i thought. also Will Holly Winstalker kill me if i cill the SICK animals?!?!?!? shes a Bi%$^h

and XP wise the gnollfang quest stomps this into the ground. i went from lvl 7-8 in 12 or so teeth. alone. that was hunting nothing in the lvl. just at that lvl turned them in. it was up and into lvl 8

AND to let you all know. I think by turning in a bear pelt I DID get a CUREDISEASE spell. with an alt of mine. im possative i got one doing this. i dont know if it was wolf or bear.

Yes, Holly Windstalker and Cros Treewind, the *lovely* Qeynos Hills wandering druids, will kill you if they see you attacking bears, wolves, etc.... even if they are rabid. Doesn't seem to matter to them.... /shrug

Actually, it's been a long time since I've seen Cros - I think he's gone for good. But yes, you'll go down before Holly's blades if she catches you whacking a wolf or bear, even if they're diseased.

Cros died when Bristalbane unleashed a plauge upon the Karanas. I don't know the exact details of his death. I only know he was lucky enough to escape the tip of my sword and the sound of my drums...

I hope he lives a long life in hell.

i have a 21st lvl shammy, when i was around 8th lvl i went and did this quest. it took me 3hours to get to lvl 12. this is an excellent exp quest. I also had a lvl 5 enchanter (started with the wolves ) got to lvl 7 in about 2 hours, then moved to grizz's got to 12 in another 3 to 4 hours. Dont worry about the spell she gives you (unless you can use) just sell it. It is the best quest i have found yet. ( for exp anyway, at low level )

Asku Harking: :) 21st season shaman barb :)

Scroll
# Jan 25 2002 at 4:18 AM Rating: Default
The scroll i have been getting is the lvl 19 druid endure disease (also lvl 9 cleric and shaman i believe) max 2pp, faction and good xp, killed the bear with my barbarian rogue at lvl 7, bear was yellow and i had 11hp left at the end :)

If you turn in rabid wolf pelts she casts cure disease on you, but not when you turn in the rabid grizzly pelt

RE: riped off

There is no need to talk to Priestess Caulria. Merely turn in the putrid bear pelts that you acquire and she will reward you with 1 or 2 platinum pieces and a spell scroll (cure disease) which sells for atleast 1 and a half gold.
Spawns
# Jul 21 2001 at 3:26 PM Rating: Default
OK, the rabid bears spawn between Blackburrow and the guard tower BUT VERY rarely in the day, they spawn the most frequently between 12AM and 6AM and if you are at the right place its easy to find 2 or 3 a night, and just spend the day hunting skeletons and selling chips for a little extra cash. And to the person wondering anyone who isnt KOS with the Temple Of Life can do this quest, ive passed in 25+ bear pelts with my necro and he is still dubious so he musta had very low faction,so i think if i could do it just about anyone could.

Atar 25th lvl Magician The Rathe
Quickbeem lvl 15 Druid Rallos Zek
Evist lvl 11 Necro of Rallos Zek

"You will be slain in the name of Eternal Darkness!"
Quickbeem begins to cast a spell
You feel your skin ignite!
You have been slain by Quickbeem

can anyone do the quest?

Where Bear!
# Jul 10 2001 at 4:24 PM Rating: Default
I agree with everyone that this is an excellent way to gain XP, but these damn bears are seldomly seen lately, especially without Tracking. I'll wait through an entire EQ day to see 0-3 of them. Is there a way to spawn them faster? I've tried killing normal bears & wolves, and not killing them. I'm running in the valley between Blackburrow and the WK guard tower. Where da bears?

I'm level 20 and I'm gona get my butt over there before they either nerf the quest, or the plague in karana is gone, all the grizleys in karana are rabids right now, I'd best hurry..... I'm a paladin nearing the time to buy level 22 spells, and I have cure disease so this won't be a problem, so this will be great once i get there. i hope I get xp for the quest still.

The rabid animals in the karanas do not drop the diseased pelts. Only the ones in the Qeynos hills do.

You still get a lot of exp for diseased bear pelts at lev 20.

Hate to tell you this but you cant turn in the pelts in Karana due to that they are still regular pels. The only ones you can turn in our in qeynos hills and a lv 16 still give one blue bubble.

Great exp for this quest, I still get a blue bubble even at level 15. And the plat is nice too.
